Menubar Sampe Issue on IE6

Thanks for great framework, Spry Team!
I noticed some issue on menu bar sample.
Following sample works ok with FF, IE7 bt not for IE6.
Problem is alignment of sub level list is not inherited from
top level.
Hope this will be fixed in next release...

<style>
#mbar {
float:right;
clear: both;
#MenuBar5 li {
width: auto;
white-space: nowrap;
#MenuBar5 ul {

float: none;
background-color: transparent;
#MenuBar5 a.MenuBarItemSubmenu {
background-position: 100% 50%;
</style>
<div id="mbar">
<ul id="MenuBar5" class="MenuBarHorizontal">

<li><a href="#">Item 1.2</a></li>

<li><a href="#">Item 3.2</a></li>
<li><a href="#">Item 3.3</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><a href="#">Item 4</a></li>
</ul>
</div>

Hi gyukwon,
You're talking about the horizontal alignment right? If so,
we've already fixed it. You can fix your version manually by
deleting this code at line 223 of the SpryMenuBar.js file:
if(!this.hasClassName(this.element, "MenuBarHorizontal") ||
menu.parentNode != this.element)
menu.style.left = menu.parentNode.offsetLeft + 'px';
Give it a try and let us know if that fixes the problem you
are seeing.
Thanks,

  • Spry Horizontal Submenu Bar Issues in IE6

    Hey there,
    I've been struggling with this issue for a while now, and I was hoping that I might be able to get a little help from the community to resolve it.  I've built a site which looks absolutely fine in all browsers except for Internet Explorer 6.  In IE6, the sub menu bars jump around all over the place for no apparent reason, and I can't figure out why...  The site in question is www.flexyoffice.co.uk.
    Now, in most browsers, the submenu appears above the menu bar.  This was my intention.  Unfortunately, in IE6, if you hover over a menu item containing a sub menu, the submenu will either appear over the menu item, below the menu item, or next to the menu item.  Additionally, once you try to actually hover over the sub menu, the sub menu itself moves, leaving the user to chase the submenu around the page in pursuit... Not ideal...!  Looking at the page in IE 6, it almost seems as if the submenu opens up to the right of the menu bar, which results in everything else being thrown out.  I could be wrong though.
    I'm relatively new to these forums, so if there is any specific information which I can provide which would possibly help to identify the issue, please do let me know.  If there are any suggestions out there that are worth giving a go, I would really appreciate any thoughts that you may have.
    Thanks very much guys,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    I tried your page in IE6 and it crashed the browser! To be honest, most people should have upgraded from IE6 ages ago, I was redirected to MS website to upgrade the second time I started the browser.
    As I couldn't even get the page to load, I can't suggest what could be wrong.
    One thing I did notice wrong that made your menus appear jumpy at first was that you are not preloading the images needed to display the menu bars.
    you have the Javascript function in the correct place - function MM_preloadImages() {
    But you have not selected to preload any images in the body tag.
    Should look something like this -
    <body onload="MM_preloadImages('images/buttons/contactOver.gif','images/buttons/aboutOver.gif', 'images/buttons/loginOver.gif','images/buttons/case_studiesOver.gif','images/buttons/newsO ver.gif','images/buttons/fundingOver.gif','images/buttons/eventsOver.gif','images/buttons/ homeOver.gif')">
    These are obviously not the images you want to preload (taken from one of my sites), replace the images with the images used in your menu and your menu will operate much smoother as the images will be ready to use.
    Hope this helps (a little!)

  • Compatible issue with ie6

    I built a web site using Dreamweaver CS3 for my self. (
    http://www.freewebs.com/coolauto
    It works perfect in IE 7, but in IE6 it doesn't work
    properly. On the home page, when you move the mouse on to one of
    the menu buttons, it should have a half transparent background
    displayed. It works fine IE7, but it doesn't work in IE6. Can
    anybody tell me why and how I can fix the problem.
    The second issue is how I can make the background image
    downloading quicker or progessively.
    Please help.

    Assume that your navigation is going to remain an all image
    affair just
    create the transparent roll-over image effect in your image
    editing
    software and use that instead of the transparent block of
    grey png image.
    As for your downloading problem you should slice that image
    up. Using
    large images like that is not really the most efficient and
    user
    friendly way to proceed.
    Its an easy enough design to section into various components
    i.e.,
    header, navigation, content, news, footer. Everyone will
    benefit from it.

  • Drop down menu issue in IE6

    Hello,
    http://www.dianetimewell.co.uk/tester/index.htm
    I have an issue with my drop down menus in Internet Explorer 6.
    If you select the 'Clinic' tab for some reason the drop down goes to the far left. I can't see anything that may be obstructing it from dropping down normally like the others.
    It works in all other browsers.
    Any ideas out there??
    Many thanks,
    Damien

    Only error I get is that you wrote HTML in your CSS document which causes the document to not validate.  As far as menus goes, IE6 does not support a lot of JQuery and if you still have a significant number of users with IE6 visiting your site, you may want to rethink the layout or use the IE6 conditional statements to load a different menu altogether for IE6 users.

  • Scrolling issues in IE6

    I've found a couple other threads that are similar to my issue, but nothing yet that completely answers my question.
    I've got a page that was created in iWeb and uploaded to a website hosted by google (Google Apps - Google Page Creator). The page and subpages load up perfect (a little slow), in Firefox and Safari, and even in IE7, but for some reason, IE6 screws up the formatting and freezes up when trying to scroll the page. A couple of the other threads say something about changing the javascript; I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if there is a solution. I would tell friends and family to download Firefox instead, but I would also like to give them the option of choosing their browser.
    My site is here: http://www.secules.net/Munchkin.html
    If someone could clue me in as to why IE6 has problems with this page, and what I could do to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks!

    Ars,
    When we run this form in 6i environment(client-server) it works fine but in 10g environment it gives issues in scrolling. The record switch between few records and takes lot of time in displaying data in child blocks.What exactly is the "Scrolling Issue" you are having? Are you getting errors or is it just slow?
    Based on the description of your form layout, my first guess would be that your form is very slow. When migrating a Forms Application from Client/Server (C/S) to web; there is more to the process than just converting your form from one version of the Forms Builder to a newer version. It is a complete paradigm shift in how you design and optimize your forms. With a C/S app you didn't have to worry about network traffic. With a web deployed app, you have to be very conservative with network traffic because excessive network traffic (typical of a C/S app) will cause your form to be very slow when deployed to the web. From your description, it sounds like you have "excessive" network traffic.
    I have a few questions. Is it really necessary to populate the detail Global Temp Tables (GTT) as the user navigates from record to record? It would be more efficient to populate your GTT with all of the records related to a Master record set rather than populate them as the user navigates from one record to the next. Why do you need to use GTT over a standard table or view? Is it to restrict what data a user has access too? If so, there are more effiicient ways to accomplish this; like Virtual Private Database functionality, or perhaps use a From Clause query in your form to only query records a user might have access too.

  • Horizontal Spry MenuBar completely broken in IE6

    I have a horizontal spry menu bar on a site. I have done some customization, but mainly styling - and nothing really with positioning, except having the subs appear above the main bar as opposed to below. The bar works perfectly fine in ALL major browsers, but then we get to IE6 and it is completely broken. I have no idea why. The background of the main bar is visible in IE6, but none of the submenu items  - no text or anything. The only thing that happens is that the cursor changes as if it is picking up a link, but nothing happens when I click on it.
    The site is www.alpineonline.com.
    Here is a link to a couple of images that shows it working and not working: http://paradigmforward.com/alpine/html/spryexample.html
    It is obviously urgent that I get this fixed, but have no idea where to start. I must say that based on some of the other threads on this forum, I do not have high hopes that anyone will even respond, but it is worth a shot (i.e. - saw other users having the same issue, but no one ever responded to any of them!)
    Thanks!

    ADDITIONAL INFO -
    I just discovered two more pieces of information that may be of value in resolving this.
    As I mentioned, when you roll the mouse over the big blue bar in IE6, the cursor changes as if there is a link there. I just discovered that on one of the spots on this blue bar (just above the 2009 in the footer) is where a submenu displays. This submenu displays WAY over to the right off the site.
    Additionally, I am getting 5 CSS validation errors all related to this part of the CSS: (line numbers for reference)
    172       /* HACK FOR IE: to make sure the sub menus show above form controls, we underlay each submenu with an iframe */
    173       ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe
    174       {
    175           position: absolute;
    176           z-index: 1010;
    177           filter:alpha(opacity:0.1);
    178       }
    179       /* HACK FOR IE: to stabilize appearance of menu items; the slash in float is to keep IE 5.0 from parsing */
    180       @media screen, projection
    181       {
    182          ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
    183          {
    184           display: inline;
    185           f\loat: left;
    186          background-color: #536186;
    187           }
    188        }
    Here are the errors:
    177 ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe  "attempt to find a semi-colon before the property name. add it"
    0     ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe  "Parse error Null"
    177 ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe   "Property opacity doesn't exist in CSS level 2.1 but exists in [css3] :                                               0.1"
    177 ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe   "Parse Error                                              0.1);"
    177 ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe   "Property opacity doesn't exist in CSS level 2.1 but exists in [css3] :                                               0.1"
    177 ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe   "Parse Error                                              }"
    Also, I failed to mention that I am using CS4, so I am sure the Spry Framework is the latest version available.
    Hopefully fixing these errors will solve the problem! Just not sure how to do that.

    Hello,
    I created my webpage in dreamweaver on a MAC.  I have viewed my page(s) A-OK in Safari and firefox however I am being told that my page is not viewing properly on Internet Explorer.  I then found the browser compatibility feature to test the page in Dreamweaver.  What I have found is that I have browser support problems...this is the error from my index page - which is actually on all my pages!

    Hi kadarusastry,
    This issue is about the browser compatibility.
    Please add your SharePoint site into compatibility view in IE 9 or IE 10.
    Or, use IE 8 mode in browser mode for IE 9 or IE 10.
    About how to add site into compatibility view, you can refer to the link:

    Note: the settings for IE 9 and IE 10 are same.

  • Spry Accordion issue in IE6/IE7

    I'm having a problem with the Spry Accordion widget that I
    placed on this page:
    WireCare Customer
    Support
    It works flawlessly in Firefox, but the tab expansion is
    erratic in IE 6 and IE7.
    If anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ken
    Edit to add:
    I'm using CS3 with the version of Spry that installed with
    the original software. I don't know if that's the latest version,
    or if the new version has a fix for this problem. I'll upgrade to
    the latest Spry version and hope that helps.
    K
    Edit 2:
    I am using the latest version of Spry, so it may not be a
    version issue.
    K

    Found the problem.
    The solution was in a previous post on a similar subject.
    I added a DOCTYPE declaration to the page, and it works much
    smoother now. Not as nice as in Firefox, but acceptable.

  • Flash 7 vs 10 - hang/unload issue in IE6

    Hi-
    First off, thanks for taking a look at this. Any information you may have is appreciated.
    The situation I'm running into could probably be a problem with any of several different variables. I'll try to explain as simply as I can.
    Basically, our company makes tests. The tests are loaded locally onto a computer, but the test program runs through Internet Explorer 6. Each question has an swf that goes along with it. Some have one or more still pictures (.psd's), some have one or more video clips (.flv's), some have a mix of both. The media is imported and embedded into fla's we keep and use as templates to process the other media. All have some zoom and drag functionality as well as playback options built in using ActionScript, which is why we're not just using jpg's and wmv's.
    The issue we're running into it that all our material works fine when it's published in Flash 7 and the computer has Flash Player 7 installed. Navigating between questions goes smoothly and there has never been a problem. We've been running quality control (QC) on using Flash Player 10 with both Flash 7 content and Flash 10 content to make sure that it transitions smoothly, but we've been running into problems with IE lagging between questions, occasionally freezing, and occasionally seeming like it has not unloaded the swf from the previous question. Changing the browser cache setting "check for newer versions of stored pages:" from "Automatically" to to "Every visit to the page" seems to fix the problem, however, changing that setting is not an option at the test centers where the tests are given.
    So, the questions I have are:
    1. Is anyone aware of problems with Flash Player 10 that would cause issues like this?
    2. Is there a way to work around these problems either through Publish Settings or ActionScript?
    If anyone has any ideas, we'd be happy to hear them. Thanks so much for your help!
    -Geoff

    Sorry but your problem can't solve in this forum. I have no idea how ARALOC viewer implmented to recognize Flash Player as browser plugin at all.
    ARALOC viewer is not browser that Adobe support directly and officially. So If you have a problem with that viewer, you have to solve with the compnay who own that viewer. If there is a problem in Flash Player side, we can listen to the author of that software.

  • Png transparency issues in IE6

    I've had an absolutely lovely time today trying to make my
    header logo (a transparent .png) display correctly in IE6. I guess
    I might be better off giving up on it, but at this point I don't
    want to let go of it (plus I'd like the page to look better). I
    used the pngfix.js fix from
    Bob
    Osala's site. I put the JavaScript in the same folder as my
    template, and followed the instructions given on the site.
    When I check the template page in IE6 it looks just fine, but
    when I check the web pages using the template, the logo displays
    with the dreaded bluish gray background. Here's what my test page
    looks like:

    IE6 doesn't even see the code. I obviously don't understand
    how this works. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Dana,
    Your page is looking for the pngfix.js here but it's not
    there.
    http://feed-back.com/pngfix.js
    I typically place my scripts into a folder called Scripts. So
    my code would
    look like this:
    <!--[if lt IE 7]>
    <script defer type="text/javascript"
    src="Scripts/pngfix.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
    Also, just so you know, pngfix.js doesn't work on background
    images.

  • Overflow issue with IE6 + IE7

    I am finding that I have to refresh the page to get overflow
    to work in IE6 and IE7. So since it is working half the time I am
    doing something correct.
    But why is the overflow not working correct the first time?
    All works fine in Mozilla

    Try using a tool like tcpmon to see the actually HTTP headers and content between IE and WebLogic:
    https://tcpmon.dev.java.net/
    That might give you some clues whether there is something unique in the IE6 request or response.

  • Absolute and relative addressing for stylesheets: issue with IE6 and pages not in the root

    The following conditional comment gives me a problem when I arrange my site into folders (instead of all pages in one directory, or all in the root). The directories are built according to the site hierarchy.
    <!--[if lte IE6]>
    <link rel="stylesheet" media="all" type="text/css" href="../styles/dropdown_ie.css />
    <![endif]-->
    <!--[if IE]>
    My homepage is in the rootfolder, the dropdown_ie.css is in the folder "styles".
    I use the dropdown menu from Stu Nichols http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/dd_valid.html and this works as long as all pages are in the same folder (or, in my case, as long as they all are together with the homepage in the rootfolder). But when pages are in different folders, the dropdown_ie.css is not read anymore when using IE6. Other browsers are ok; for those I use:
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    @import url("../styles/flyout.css");
    @import url("../styles/dropdown.css");
    -->
    </style>
    What do you suggest I do to get the pages not in the root to read the dropdown_ie.css file when using IE6?
    And I have a feeling that the way I import the styles may not be right, but I am not sure.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Erik

    I solved this one by changing the relative addressing of my stylesheet location in absolute addressing. And I had to do this not only for the stylesheet, but for all addressing in the html related to this drop down menu:
    href="http://mysafety.be/styles/dropdown_ie.css"
    Changing the location of my files into subdirectories (and removing the spaces in the file names) also means that all my google indexing got screwed up; I submitted to google the whole list of addresses for removal from their cache. It will be another 4 weeks before everything is indexed correctly again, but I guess I better do this now before the site becomes fully operational.

    Flyout Menus require JavaScript and some IE specific CSS code to work right.  You'll find a good cross-browser flyout menu below.  Just copy and paste their code into a new HTML document and style it the way you wish.
