Merge Many PDF files in several PDF Files

Hi,
I have about 500 PDF Files :
PDF_A1
PDF_A2
PDF_B1
PDF_B2
EtC.
I want to Merge all my 500 PDF Files in 250 PDF files. I want to merge A1 with A2. B1 with B2 etc. Any idea to how to do ?
Thank you

Hi Dave,
First, the issue does not exist anymore. We have decided to merge all documents in the same file. that's done and OK
Then, Any way, I have found a solution:
Use a script to put in different folders all files which must be together. I mean Folder A will contain files A1 and A2. Folder B will contain files B1 and B2 ...
Then use a PDF software in command line to merge all PDF files folder by folder.
Thnak you for your reply.

    Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why?

    Hi Michael,
    “AdbeRdr11003_en_US.exe” is the download installed on our CEO’s new Windows 8 laptop.  It is a Dell XPS Re: Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why? Dell XPS 13" .  It has a full install Windows 8 Professional for its’ Operating System.
    I’ll attempt to attach the file in question.  The file opens fine on our Windows 7, and XP computers (with  the proper Adobe Reader on each).
    Our CEO says there is a message that comes up saying he needs Adobe Flash.  I’m attempting to find out whether or not he is trying to open it the ‘Metro’ view, or the ‘Desktop’ view – no answer yet.
    If your system strips the attachment, let me know, and I’ll upload the file to an ftp site {if necessary}.

  • Compressing large file into several small files

    what can i use to compress a 5gb file in several smaller files, and that will easy rejoined at a later date?
    thanks

    Hi, Simon.
    Actually, what it sounds like you want to do is take a large file and break it up into several compressed files that can later be rejoined.
    Two ideas for you:
    1. Put a copy of the file in a folder of its own, then create a disk image of that folder. You can then create a segmented disk image using the segment verb of the hditutil command in Terminal. Disk Utility provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to some of the functions in hdiutil, but unfortunately not the segment verb, so you have to use hditutil in Terminal to segment a disk image.
    2. If you have StuffIt Deluxe, you can create a segmented archive. This takes one large StuffIt archive and breaks it into smaller segments of a size you define.2.1. You first make a StuffIt archive of the large file, then use StuffIt's Segment function to break this into segments.
    2.2. Copying all the segments back to your hard drive and Unstuffing the first segment (which is readily identifiable) will unpack all the segments and recreate the original, large file.I'm not sure if StufIt Standard Edition supports creating segmented archives, but I know StuffIt Deluxe does as I have that product.
    Good luck!

  • How to split a big file into several small files using XI

    Hi,
    Is there any way to split a huge file into small files using XI.
    Thanks
    Mukesh

    There is a how to guide for using file adapters, an "sdn search" will get you the document.
    Based on that , read a file into XI, Use strings to store the file content and do the split
    here is some code to get you started
    ===========
    Pseudocode:
    ===========
    // This can be passed in - however many output files to which the source is split
    numOutputFiles = 5;
    // Create the same number of filehandles as numOutputFiles specifies
    open file1, file2, file3, file4, file5;
    // Create an Array to hold the references to those filehandles
    Array[5] fileHandles = {file1, file2, file3, file5, file5};
    // Initialize a loop counter
    int loopCounter = 0;
    // a temporary holder to "point" the output stream to the correct output file
    File currentOutputFile = null;
    // loop through your input file
    while (sourceFile.nextLine != null)
    loopCounter++;
    if (loopCounter == (numOutputFiles +1) // you've reached 5, loop back
    loopCounter = 1;
    currentOutputFile = fileHandles[loopCounter]; // gets the output file at that index of the array
    currentOutputFile.write(sourceFile.nextLine);

  • How do i fix a file where relinking or updating file is too slow and generating 60+MB pdf from a 4mb Indesign file?

    I have an 18 page files linking several pdf images and working with this file is horribly slow.  These pdf images(total of 15) easily take a min to relink or update (pdf's are at max 2mb but majority are less than 1mb).  The Indesign file is only 4mb but when i export or print to pdf I get a 60-70mb file. Exporting or printing these 18 pages easily takes 30 min.  I can't use the file with a higher display quality unless i have the patience of watching a plant grow on that day. I've read a majority of ways why InDesign would be slow. At work im operating Windows 7, Indesign 6 and I have 32MB of RAM.  Extremely frustrating and reminding me of the days of dial up internet.  I've already done a SAVE AS and tried to reduce linked files image size and to no avail has not helped.  I was able to get my 72mb pdf file to reduce to 6mb after using Adobe Acrobat and getting rid of the hidden information but I lose alot of quality in the linework.  I am guessing its because these pdfs are generated from Revit or Autocad is why it might be holding onto some hidden info. So how do i make this file work faster (relink,export,pdf etc)?

    Just to note as well, InDesign only links to files, there's no embedding, you would see a 4mb file, but if it's linked to a 10mb pdf and it has to include all that PDF in the final file then it will be circa 14mb file.
    What you have is a vector heavy PDF and there's no real way to reduce that without losing quality.
    You may have better joy by opening the linked PDFS in acrobat and using File>Print and choose Adobe PDF (or another method) to basically refry the CAD pdfs.
    I'd do this with a copy of all the files though just in case something goes drastically wrong.
    Frankly, I feel it's the nature of how CAD pdfs are made that's causing the downfall here, refrying these and Printing these files to PDF removes a lot of the complicated things happening in CAD files and makes a very dulled down PDF version.
    Once you've done this then try FIle>Export from indesign to make your pdf.

  • Several itl files - itunes process runs but itunes wont open

    This is a little complicated and I have now run into several related issues.  This all started a few weeks ago when  I attempted to move my itunes library from one external hard drive to a new and larger external hard drive on my windows vista PC.  I copied/transfered all of what was on the older driver onto the new drive.  That's fine and dandy.  I also at the time did some maintenance removing old music folders and itunes library files from several years of use. I had all kinds of duplicate music files (that got copied over at the same time) and a horde of dead links and playlists too.  Very messy.  In short my library had become unmanageable a long time ago, its size of close to 500 gigs.
    Everything copied over and itunes opened and worked okay.
    However problems have now happened after (and it may be coincidental) loading the latest version of iTunes.  And at the same time using several programs to attempt to find and delete duplicates, fix playlists, located files and dead tracks etc.  These included "iTunes Library Tool Kit" and duplicate file finder, plus Steve MacGuire's vbs scripts.
    It all came to a head now when the other day iTunes would open (you can see the process running in TaskManager) but the window would not open.  Basically I followed http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717.  And it seems to have fixed the "not opening" issue.  However.  Before going through and recreating my library I realize I have several itl files and several xml files and all kinds of dead or old itunes music files.
    So I guess I'm asking .... is there some way of going back to square one?  Scrubbing any and all history of iTunes, and having iTunes recreate my library as if my PC was new to Apple and iTunes?
    If so what is my best approach?  Should I erase old folders and files first?
    I've attached an example of what I found after searching for .itl files.  (lines 2 - 5 were moved to the desktop)  thats where they still reside, but I stopped and posted this inquiry before doing anything else.
    Don't know if it matters I have my library also located in iCloud.

    Hi there. If you want a clean start I'd suggest you shift-start iTunes and create a new empty library at F\iTunes, make sure the media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced is set to F:\iTunes\iTunes Media and the options to Keep... & Copy... are enabled. I'd then move the existing media inside the iTunes Media folder before adding it to iTunes. Either use the Automatically Add to iTunes folder or move everything deeper inside, e.g. F:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Imports so that once iTunes has imported everything and moved it to where it thinks it belongs you can easily clean up any artwork, playlist files etc. that iTunes ignores.
    Note that a clean start like this will lose all ratings, play counts, playlists, date added information, and if you have any devices may mean that all media needs to be resynced. Chances are the media folders may still contain duplicates but these can be cleaned using my DeDuper script.
    Take a look at this backup tip... Ideally you would backup what you have before you get started, just in case you get over enthusiastic at some point, then redo the backup once you have the rebuilt library working as you want it.

  • Is it possible to convert several pdf files (into Excel or Word) at the same time ?

    I'd like to convert several pdf files (up to 500) into Excel at the same time. Is it possible ? How many files can Export PDF handle at the same time ?
    Thanks a lot for your answers,
    Sylvain

    Hi, Sylvain.
    This is a great idea! Currently, ExportPDF only can export 1 file at a time. (Acrobat can do a batch export using it's Action Wizard feature.)
    I added your idea to our idea list: http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/1499. If you'd like to see us add this feature, please go vote or add comment to this Idea on the idea list.

  • Error message when trying to merge multiple files into single PDF file

    Greetings! I'm on windows 7 professional, adobe 9 pro and a 64 bit PC. When I try to merge several PDF files from the same folder into a single PDF file I get this error message "You can choose multiple items only if they are all located in the same folder" - Please help! Thx.

    The product is Acrobat, not Adobe. That being said, I suspect you may only be running AA 9.0 and that may be the issue. If you have not done the updates to the 9.5.5, you probably should. That may fix the issue you are having, particularly since you mentioned a 64-bit system.

  • How to merge multiple files into one pdf

    I would like help with this task. If I could do this for free I woul actually be more likely to follow advice. Many thanks

    Hi Lauravill,
    The free Adobe Reader cannot help you with the merging job. If you have Acrobat Reader then you can merge files into one pdf with the following steps-
    Within Acrobat XI, select File > Create > Combine Files into a Single PDF.
    Click Add Files and select the files you want to add.
    Click, drag, and drop to reorder the files and pages. Double-click on a file to expand and rearrange individual pages. Press the Delete key to remove unwanted content.
    When finished arranging the files, click Combine Files.
    Select File > Save As > PDF.
    Name your PDF file and click Save.
    Let us know if you face any problemwith this or need extra support.
    Thanks

  • Merging Hundreds of PDFs using a LIST OF FILES

    I need to merge -- in a very particular order -- several hundred PDFs. I have a spreadsheet (which could easily be made into a text file, CSV, etc.) containing the filenames in the order that I need to merge them. Unfortunately, the order that I need to merge them is unrelated to their filenames, creation date or other easily-read data.
    Is there a way to do this within Acrobat Pro X? Is there a way to "feed" a list to Acrobat and have Acrobat merge the files in that order?

    I use a workaround to do this. Pretty easy.  Open explorer, open the folder you want to merge. Re-name each .pdf file so there is a alpha-numberic ID in front. We us 1a-, 1b-...1z, the 2a, 2b. This gets you 26 per round.  We *do not* rename the files, just add the 1 a dash, 2a-, etc..  It takes some time buy insures they go in the order you want.  After they all have the prefix identifier, just merge the pdfs or create a portfolio, or merge some then create a portfolis.  Works well, and no programming needed.
    Tricks: open the folder, change view to details. The files will be listed alphanumerically. Then you left click on the extension part of the file name, then right click on the name of the file, select rename, then press home, then add the 1a- (or whatever id). Once you get the sequence down it goes fast.  If you double click in the same spot on the file name, the pdf will open and this will waste time.
    Cheers.

  • Distorted text when trying to merge files into single pdf

    I am trying to merge several pdf documents into a single pdf. The pages are all distorted with missing words and random characters appearing here and there. I have combined these pages successfully using 'Assemble files into a PDF package' so I know the files are okay. Trying 'Merge files into a single pdf' is what creates the problem. I have tried this on Acrobat 8.0 and also 10. It is the same in both cases.
    Help please!

    Hello again. I took the long weekend off, so haven't replied for a while.
    While trying to set up a few documents out of the package I wanted to create, I discovered that there
    is only one file that is causing the problem.
    The biggest problem is that it is a confidential financial file, and I'm loathe to put it up on the web.
    I'm going to try to re-create the file without the confidential part, then send it to this forum. I can't
    figure out why it should cause problems when all the others don't and they have all been created by
    the same person with the same version of Office.
    So thanks for your help so far. I really appreciate the quick response from a couple of you.  I will get back to you.

  • Acrobat XI PRO: Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically in top, after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file

    Hey
    I have now tried for hours, but now I give up!
    MY WISH -
    Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file.
    I have already bookmarks, shown on the screen (see screenshot below) but I want those bookmark to be visualised in a separate TOC in the top of the combined files.
    This new TOC (which I have inserted) shall be printable and serve as a cover page in a binder.
    I have seen other cheap pdf.programs in the market (e.g. PDF Converter Professional 7.3) which are able to make the above things, easy, fast and nice.

    Reader doesn't have that ability. You would need Acrobat.

    As TSN has indicated we have no idea what program you are using, other than you posted in the Acrobat forum. In Acrobat you go to File > Create > Combine (varies with version of Acrobat). You can also open one and then use the pages>Insert to add the others.
