Merging ALV column Cells Vertically.

Hi all,
I have an ALV grid with 14 columns. I wish to merge cells vertically in columns 1 ( lot ) and column 2 ( sequence ) where the data is the same. I have managed to do this on column 1 successfully but now wish to merge column 2 cells that have common values in column 1. See before ( Raw format ) and after ( merged format ) examples below.
To edit correctly, I have used astericks to represent spaces ( as a result of merging cells ) and hyphens to prevent the editor compressing the spaces in the illustration !

Cell auto-resize after vertical merge of two cells.

Ladies and Gents,
That is my question.
I am creating a sheet for grants and as part of my "Degree Program Profile" template project.
My intent is to have six column headings spread between columns "A" through "J".
"Date Earned" occupies cells A2/A3 "vertically merged with text centered vertically".
"X No. of Times" occupies cells B2/B3 "......................".
"Target Major/Target Minor" occupies cells C2/C3 and D2/D3 "...............".
"Awarding Entity" occupies cells E2/E3 F2/F3 G2/G3 "..................".
"Reason for Award" occupies cells H2/H3 I1/I2 ".................".
"Amount" is supposed to occupy cells J2/J3 "........................". <- this is the trouble area.
When I merge cells J1 and J2 on my spreadsheet, numbers automatically resizes the entire row to a smaller "single row" of cells.
How do prevent this from happening?

The behavior is much more spectacular that what you wrote and it's reproducible.
You merged A2 & A3, B2 & B3, C2 & D2 & C3 & D3,
E2 & F2 & G2 & E3 & F3 & G3 , H2 & I 2 & H3 & I3
Merging H2 & H3 behave as a special un-merge action.
We get : C2 & D2, E2 & F2 & G2, H2 & I 2
but the cells of row 3 are no longer merged to cells of row 2 and no longer merged in the row.
In other words, every cells of row 3 retrieve their independence.
This behavior is always striking if we apply the merge feature to every cells in a row.
If I add a column K to your table, the problem doesn't surface.
I made an other attempt.
Before merging the described groups of cells, I inserted - character in every cells of row 3.
I inserted the string "row 4" in the cell A4.
Then I merged the described way.
Before merging J2 & J3, I has two tabs numbers 2 & 3 for this couple of rows.
When I merged J2 & J3, what was a couple of rows loose it's status and became a single row 2
and the string "row 4" is in row 3 !
If rows 2 & 3 were defined as header rows, after the merge tasks, the Table is described as having only two header rows.
I guess that you already understood that I will file a report upon what resemble to a bug.

Displaying a multi-line text block in an ALV grid cell

Can I display a multi-line text block (i.e. a paragraph of text) in an ALV grid cell?
If yes, what properties do I set in the Field Catalaog (I tried the style and that didnt seem to work)

By default ALV Grid merges fields with same values vertically.
Isn't that only when the column is part of the sort key? You also have to consider the user changing the sort sequence, which can make the text jumbled up. In one of my reports I have made the cell a hotspot and displayed the text in a popup. Of course you cannot print it.

Button in alv grid cell using REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY

Hi all,
I want to make the contents of 2 columns of my alv grid as push button with values as text on it. I am not using classes or methods but alv grid fm. On clicking the button one dialog box has to pop up which gives edit option for the values in that coloumn, my question is how to introduce button in alv grid cell? if i can use t_fieldcatalog-icon, then please give me the complete steps for that.

How to create a context menu in ALV table cell editor(Webdynpro abap )

Hello Experts,
I am having a problem in creating a context menu in a table cell editor in the ALV table output.I have assigned a 'lta' as the cell editor.But befor assigning the lta as cell editor I have assigned the menu to the lta.But when the view is rendered I can see the lta with the actioned assigned to it.But I cannot see the context menu.

I have not come across this requirement till now to have context menu in a cell editor of alv.
Unfortunately the implementation of method SET_MENU of alv ui elements ( ex: cl_salv_wd_uie_text_view ) is not updating alv configurable table, instead it just stores in a global attribute as string. Hence has no effect on context menu.
If your user is very particular about this requirement of having context menu in cell editor, you can go for a normal table. Because, normal table's cell editor has the property to set the menuID as we do it for other ui elements.

Buttons in ALV Grid cell need focus to be clicked :-(

Hi,
I have an ALV Grid with single cells displayed as buttons (dependend on the data in the corresponding row). Unfortunatelly the button-cells need focus to be clicked. So you need two clicks: one to get the focus to the desired cell and one to really click the button.
Any ideas how to make this work with one single click ? (Setting a hotspot does not work, cause hotspots have the same problem.)

[JS CS3] Merging table columns

Hi all,
What's the fastest way to merge columns in a table?
I'm using the following loop to merge the 4th and 5th columns in my table:
for( var f = myTable.rows.length-1; f >= 0; f-- ){
myTable.columns[3].cells[f].merge (myTable.columns[4].cells[f])
It works, but I'm working on a large table (120 pages worth) and have many instance where I need to merge columns. Using the loop above, the script takes hours to run. Is there a faster way to merge columns while keeping the rows intact?

I've just done some time testing with CS4 and found the following:

How to display tooltip in ALV GRID CELL?

Hello,
I'm trying to display dynamic tootips for data in ALV GRID Cells.
My ALV Gid Cells content does not display Icon or symbol or Exception but pure data (In my case dates).
Is there a way to do display a toolip that will change dynamicaly according to a rule.
I took a look at the BCALV_DEMO_TOOLTIP program
but it does not answer my expectation since it display
toltip for Icon or symbol or Exception.
Can someone help on this case.

Multiple Lines in a Single ALV Grid Cell

Is there any way to Display Multiple Lines in a Single ALV Grid Cell.
This can be accomplished by Sorting the First 3 fields and Make it Looks like below displayed format.
But My problem is while downloading also it should be Displayed in the same format.

what i mean to say is dont pass the fields if they are same in the previous line... try it out..
and then pass it two ur ALV.
it will look like they are in one line

Merge two column value in single column

Team,
I have a requirement where in I need to merge 2 column values in a single column.
ex. I have Percent_complete column in my table. and my table has only one record.
I need to query such that I need to store the values of percent_complete and (100- percent_complete) values in a single column.
ex
Percent complete has 30 value.
I need to select 30 and 70(100-30) both in a single column.

In your scenario, you use previous function in the “Data” cell, right? Previous function cannot be used in the overlapping parts of row group and column group. One workaround of this issue is use custom code to get the previous value.
Public Shared previous as Integer
Public Shared current as Integer
Public Shared Function GetCurrent(Item as Integer) as Integer
     previous=current
     current=Item
     return current
End Function
Public Shared Function GetPrevious()
     return previous
End Function
Then you can use the expression below in the “Data” cell to get the previous value:
=Code.GetCurrent(fields!Score.Value) & "-Previous-" & iif(Code.GetPrevious()=0,"",Code.GetPrevious())

How to do addition of two columns cells in Matrix.

Hi All,
I tried following code on LostFocus event of Mtrix. I want to do addition of two columns cells of matrix and addtion display in third column. I tried the following code but in this I am getting the column value and when i enterd any value in columns cells it disappear when i move to next column cells.
Can anybody suggest me how to do it ?

u bind all the columns to the datasource in the matrix.then the value does not disappear.
Change ur code as follows:
Use the databind in formload
matrix.Columns.Item("V_4").DataBind.SetBound(True, "", "matrixds1")
matrix.Columns.Item("V_5").DataBind.SetBound(True, "", "matrixds2")
matrix.Columns.Item("V_3").DataBind.SetBound(True, "", "matrixds3")
Dim v1, v2 As sapbouicom.edittext
If pVal.ColUID = "V_4" Then
v1 = matrix.Columns.Item("V_5").Cells.Item(pVal.row).Specific
v2 = matrix.Columns.Item("V_4").Cells.Item(pVal.row).Specific
