Merging XML Data to make many documents

Hello,
Here's where I am at:
I've used LifeCycle Designer to create a PDF with all the forms named. I have XML data for all my companys. The XML data merges into the document, and fills in the form perfectly.
However, I'm looking to take this one step further, and automate the process. Meaning, Putting all the company data in one file, and importing the data to make PDF forms for each company.
Similar to a mail merge. --Lots of different Companys, Fill in thier each individual page.
What are the steps to do this?
Thanks!
--Jeff

Yes.
You can do one of the following:
a) Build a custom application using the LiveCycle Forms api.
b) Use the RenderForm QPAC within a workflow to convert the XML to a PDF.
The RenderForm QPAC is a little obscure to use - read the documentation VERY carefully, and be very careful about the values you enter, otherwise it won't work. It does work perfectly if you get all the values right. In my experience, you do need to enter a username and password, even though these are not noted as mandatory fields.

  • What is the best and easiest way to get xml data into the rtf document

    Hello Frenz
    I'm using rtf document(with bi publisher desktop plug in installed in the word document)... please suggest me the best way(to get the xml data from tables) to load the xml data into this rtf document..
    I'm not developing oracle apps reports. It is for Oracle retail...
    another doubt is... in the rtf document itself there is oracle bi publisher.. can it be used for generating xml data...
    please bear with me and suggest me a way out
    Thanks and regards

    What will you be using in your production system to generate XML? Or are you just trying out BIP?
    If you're familiar with dbms_xmlquery.getxml , you can pass your SQL to generate the XML output. Save the output in a file and use it in your RTF template.
    If you have Oracle reports, you can create XML output when you run the report.

  • How to merge XML-Data of two variables?

    Hi all,
    I have to combine information coming from 2 different sources (1st delivered by client input, 2nd delivered by ftp-adapter) for passing it to another service.
    So there are different namespaces for the three describing xsd's (2 in, 1 out). As every structure is composed of several elements, I don't want to copy them one by one . But when copying a whole node with child elements, the target structure yields empty nodes, because the target child elements obtain the source namespace!
    Using 2 XSLT's works well for each input, but in combination, the last translate deletes the information of the first one.
    So, the only way to merge the data I figured out by now, is to use a XSLT for each input transforming into 2 separate Variables belonging to the same namespace and then copying the complete nodes of the two variables into the target (which of course belongs to this namespace as well).
    Although there is an inconsistent indexing of the namespaces (see example), happily all data can be accessed.

    Well, if you only want to change namespace (no other changes) I would use a single generic XSL that changes the namespace for any XML document into a given target namespace, keeping the rest. That will require two transformation calls, but only one XSL. I'm afraid I don't have an example available, but if you google perhaps you can find it, I have seen it somewhere.
    Normally when you have different namespaces the contents differ as well, though, and what you really want is a merge function. There is a way to pass two documents into a single XSL and that is to use parameters. You pass one source document the normal way and assign the other converted to a string to a paramter. You must use an assign with processXSLT in BPEL, not a transform activity. The processXSLT really takes three arguments and the third contains the parameters. Now to the difficulty - in the transformation you need to change the string into a nodeset (an XML document). In the current XPath version used by the platform there is no nodeSet function, but it is possible to write one in Java. If you have it you can select from both documents while building the third. I don't have an example handy and yes it is a bit messy as well, but much of the work only has to be done once and can be reused in other processes.

  • How to merge XML-Data of two variables of different namespace?

    Hi all,
    I am facing a problem manipulating XML data in a BPEL process. As I didn't get any response on my question in the BPEL forum, I decided to post it again in this forum. I am not very familiar with using XML up to this moment, so please don't blame me if this turns out to be a stupid question.
    I have to combine information coming from 2 different sources (1st delivered by BPEL-client input "FileInfo", 2nd delivered by a ftp-adapter "FileData") for passing it to another service.
    So there are 3 XSDs (2 in, 1 out), each with a different namespace. As every structure is composed of several elements, I don't want to copy them one by one. But when copying a whole node including child elements, the target structure yields empty nodes, because the target child elements maintain the source namespace!
    Using 2 XSLT's works well for each input, but in combination, the last transformation deletes the information of the first one.
    So, the only way to merge the data I figured out by now, is to use a XSLT for each input, transforming it into 2 separate Variables belonging to the same namespace and then copying the complete nodes of the two variables into the target (which of course belongs to the common namespace as well).
    Although there is an inconsistent indexing of the namespaces (see example), happily all data can be accessed.

  • Merging randomly-named XML data file on client-side with pdf designed in Livecycle 7.0 (and addition

    Okay, as a heads up I work for a financial institution and we are converting our legacy "jetforms" to pdf format. I have in my staff for the project, 2 code developers and myself- a form designer. We have currently spent 2 months in trial and error attempting to resolve this problem, please let us know anything you can have. All client-side (internal) machines are running Windows XP and Adobe Reader 7.0.7
    The software we use as a financial institution allows our users to export a customer's data file onto their machine which is then renamed to include the member's account number and first and last name for our staff to determine which data file they need more accurately. In legacy jetforms, we have developed a program that pushes the data from the customers file that they select, into the jetform that they want to open and the matching fields in the data file fill in the fields of the jetform. Clean and simple.
    Now, i have hit nothing but frustration when attempting to perform the same process with pdfs using a form designed in livecycle designer 7. First, i see no obvious command for opening a pdf and importing a data file using a command line, like pdfmerge or something of the sort in which an xml data file can be specified and a pdf can be specified. I saw something like it using an fdf format and attempted to do this but apparently reader cannot import the data into the pdf that was designed adobe livecycle 7. All i have been seeing is database connections and using javascript inside the form to populate fields based on these database connections, etc. etc. or doing a manual file>import data>etc. which we don't want to have our staff do. We do not have reader extensions enabled, simply because i cannot get an adobe representative to call me and discuss pricing nor see any estimated pricing chart around. I don't know if reader extensions are necessary for this or not but i'm becoming very very frustrated with it.
    We don't want a complex server-side data connection binding with dynamic input. No, we just want it where our developers can say "if this data file is selected, and this pdf form is selected run this command" which would be a simple pdfmerge type solution. Is this possible or do i need to stay with jetforms until our software the billion dollar financial institution uses does form building inside its own application? I don't want to fight about who is better, what version to use, etc. I just want the straight up honest truth. If you need to know the pricing that the reader extensions would have to go by, assume there will be 500 client computers that will need to use it.

    From your post it sounds like you are Central Pro (a product for which I am by no means an expert), but you say you want to upgrade to a newer product from your "legacy" one. Is there a reason for this? Have your requirements change so that it no longer fits them? Central is still in the current Adobe roster and as far as I know there is no plans to get rid of it any time soon, so if it does everything you want I don't see why you would want to change.
    There is no product in the LiveCycle suite that merges xml data into a form from the command line. LiveCycle (with the exception of Designer) is a suite of server products, so the closest you would come is LiveCycle Forms (merge the xml and create a fillable PDF) or LiveCycle Print (merge the xml and print the form).
    Hope this helps somewhat.

  • Capture data in 1D barcode upon merging XML with XDP?

    Hi,
    The scenario is:
    Forms Server 7.2.2 is being used for merging XML data with an XDP file to render a PDF (displaying a pre-filled form to user).
    On the XDP, there is a 1D Barcode and few fields are mapped to this barcode (the barcode is intended to capture form identification information).
    Upon merging, the barcode should capture the data of those fields (data is being fetched from a db and fed as XML to Forms server). This is required as the pre-filled form will be printed and then mailed to another location, where the barcode will be read using a decoder to capture form indentification.
    Will the 1D barcode captures data from those fields, after merging XML with XDP?
    The form is NOT Reader Extended. Is Reader Extending a necessity for enabling 1D barcode to capture data?
    Is this also applicable for 2D barcodes?
    Thanks a lot for your help! :)

    Thank you Hodmi,
    I had forgotten to define the Record name parameter in the PDF Output Options.
    As the XML structure changed, not upating this parameter was preventing the process from working.
    Now it is working just fine. Thank you!

  • DSC with XML data type

    Hi,
    Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the xml data type and the Document data type in workbench? I would like to use the xml datatype in my DSC thinking it is most likely the best representation of an xml string. But I've heard that Document is more widely used and that it can represent an xml entity as well. Is this right?
    My ultimate goal is to write a DSC and use a type that represent an xml string. I would like the component.xml to have the type for my input variables to automatically be typed as "xml" or "document" (whatever the one i should be using is).
    I tried creating variables of both types ("xml' and "document", lower case d) and have those passed into my DSC for inspection. The object passed in are as follows:
    xml: org.apache.xerces.dom.DocumentImpl
    document: com.adobe.idp.Document
    But if I use any of those in my component.xml, workbench is typing my variables as "DocumentImpl" or "Document".
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    Nic

    The xml variable (org.w3c.doc.Document) is a native xml data type. That means you can use xml functions and/or xPath expressions on the content of the variable.
    The document variable (com.adobe.idp.Document) is a more generic data type that can store any binary data. If you happen to store xml in that data type, you won't be able to run xml functions or xPath expression directly on the variable content since it's treated as binary data.
    If  you don't need to manipulate or access the content of the xml, then either data types will work. Otherwise, I would use the xml data type.
    In your component xml, make sure your xml data type is set to org.w3c.doc.Document and you'll see xml in Workbench.

  • Loading XML data in Utilities

    I need to load some XML data into a staging table.
    I am using this navigation path...
    Home>Utilities>Data Load/Unload>Load>Load XML Data
    The staging table is setup with the columns in the XML file.
    I am receiving this error when I attempt to load the XML file:
    ORA-31011: XML parsing failed ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing LPX-00222: error received from SAX callback function
    I'm not sure that I have the correct columns in the table to match the XML file.
    Is there any documentation describing what columns should be in the table I am loading the XML data into?

  • Interactive Report uses XML data saved in database for creating PDF files?

    Hello all,
    I installed Apache FOP to allow a PDF "Download" in the Interactive Reports.
    Correct me if i'm wrong, when a PDF file is created with the Interactive Report option "Download", it uses a XML data to make it. Right ??
    I would like know where in the database is this XML code located.
    Regards Pedro.

    After some searching i found that XML its stored as a BLOB and it is used as XML based report data and RTF or XSL-FO based report layout.
    I didn't find yet where is located the XML used by Interactive Reports. If someone knows where in the APEX database is the XML located please share.

  • [CS5.5/6] - XML / Data Merge questions & Best practice.

    Fellow Countrymen (and women),
    I work as a graphic designer for a large outlet chain retailer which is constantly growing our base of centers.  This growth has brought a workload that used to be manageable with but two people to a never ending sprint with five.  Much of what we do is print, which is not my forte, but is also generally a disorganized, ad-hoc affair into which I am wading to try to help reduce overall strain.
    Upon picking up InDesign I noted the power of the simple Data Merge function and have added it to our repetoire in mass merging data sources.  There are some critical failures I see in this as a tool going forward for our purposes, however:
    1) Data Merge cannot handle information stored and categorized in a singular column well.  As an example we have centers in many cities, and each center has its own list of specific stores.  Data merge cannot handle a single column, or even multiple column list of these stores very easily and has forced us into some manual operations to concatenate the data into one cell and then, using delimiter characters, find and replace hard returns to seperate them.
    2) Data Merge offers no method of alternate alignment of data, or selection by ranges.  That is to say:  I cannot tell Data merge to start at Cell1 in one column, and in another column select say... Cell 42 as the starting point.
    3) Data merge only accepts data organized in a very specific, and generally inflexible pattern.
    These are just a few limitations.
    ON TO MY ACTUAL DILEMMA aka Convert to XML or not?
    Recently my coworker has suggested we move toward using XML as a repository / delivery system that helps us quickly get data from our SQL database into a usable form in InDesign.
    I've watched some tutorials on Lynda.com and havent yet seen a clear answer to a very simple question:
    "Can XML help to 'merge' large, dynamic, data sets like a list of 200 stores per center over 40 centers based off of a single template file?"
    What I've seen is that I would need to manually duplicate pages, linking the correct XML entry as I go rather than the program generating a set of merged pages like that from Data Merge with very little effort on my part.  Perhaps setting up a master page would allow for easy drag and drop fields for my XML data?
    I'm not an idiot, I'm simply green with this -- and it's kind of scary because I genuinely want us to proceed forward with the most flexible, reliable, trainable and sustainable solution.  A tall order, I know.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but XML is that beast, no?
    Formatting the XML
    Currently I'm afraid our XML feed for our centers isnt formatted correctly with the current format looking as such:
    <BRANDS>
         <BRAND>
              • BrandID = xxxx
              [Brand Name]
              [Description]
              [WebMoniker]
              <CATEGORIES>
                   <CATEGORY>
                        • xmlns = URL
                        • WebMoniker = category_type
              <STORES>
                   <STORE>
                        • StoreID = ID#
                        • CenterID = ID#
    I dont think this is currently usable because if I wanted to create a list of stores from a particular center, that information is stored as an attribute of the <Store> tag, buried deep within the data, making it impossible to 'drag-n-drop'.
    Not to mention much of the important data is held in attributes rather than text fields which are children of the tag.
    Im thinking of proposing the following organizational layout:
    <CENTERS>
         <CENTER>
         [Center_name]
         [Center_location]
              <CATEGORIES>
                   <CATEGORY>
                        [Category_Type]
                        <BRANDS>
                             <BRAND>
                                  [Brand_name]
    My thought is that if I have the <CENTER> tag then I can simply drag that into a frame and it will auto populate all of the brands by Category (as organized in the XML) for that center into the frame.
    Why is this important?
    This is used on multiple documents in different layout styles, and since our store list is ever changes as leases end or begin, over 40 centers this becomes a big hairy monster.  We want this to be as automated as possible, but I'd settle for a significant amount of dragging and dropping as long as it is simple and straightforward.  I have a high tollerance for druding through code and creating work arounds but my co-workers do not.  This needs to be a system that is repeatable and understandable and needs to be able to function whether I'm here or not -- Mainly because I would like to step away from the responsibility of setting it up every time
    I'd love to hear your raw, unadulterated thoughts on the subject of Data merge and XML usage to accomplish these sorts of tasks.  What are your best practices and how would you / do you accomplish these operations?
    Regards-
    Robert

    From what I've gleaned through watching Lynda tutorials on the subject is that what I'm hoping to do is indeed possible.
    Peter, I dont disagree with you that there is a steep learning curve for me as the instigator / designer of this method for our team, but in terms of my teammates and end-users that will be softened considerably.  Even so I'm used to steep learning curves and the associated frustrations -- but I cope well with new learning and am self taught in many tools and programs.
    Flow based XML structures:
    It seems as though as long as the initial page is set up correctly using imported XML, individual data records that cascade in a logical fashion can be flowed automatically into new pages.  Basically what you do is to create an XML based layout with the dynamic portion you wish to flow in a single frame, apply paragraph styles to the different tags appropriately and then after deleting unused records, reimport the XML with some specific boxes checked (depending on how you wish to proceed).
    From there simply dragging the data root into the frame will cause overset text as it imports all the XML information into the frame.  Assuming that everything is cascaded correctly using auto-flow will cause new pages to be automatically generated with the tags correctly placed in a similar fashion to datamerge -- but far more powerful and flexible.
    The issue then again comes down to data organization in the XML file.  In order to use this method the data must be organized in the same order in which it will be displayed.  For example if I had a Lastname field, and a Firstname field in that order, I could not call the Firstname first without faulting the document using the flow method.  I could, however, still drag and drop content from each tag into the frame and it would populate correctly regardless of the order of appearance in the XML.
    Honestly either method would be fantastic for our current set of projects, however the flow method may be particularly useful in jobs that would require more than 40 spreads or simple layouts with huge amounts of data to be merged.

  • XmlDataProvider .... is gone completely in my Xaml file. Why? How many different ways to deal with xml data source through WPF

    I followed a procedure described in a book.
    1. insert "Inventory.xml" file to a project "WpfXmlDataBinding" .
    2. add the XML data source through the data panel of "blend for 2013", named it "InventoryXmlDataStore" and store it in the current document.
    3. dragged and droppped the nodes from the Data panel onto the artboard.
    Then I checked my Xaml file against the one provided by the book
    Xaml file by the book:

    I'm writing an article at the moment which is aimed at beginners.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/30564.wpf-uneventful-mvvm.aspx
    The sample is just a collection of techniques really.
    I have a sample which involves no real data but is intended to illustrate some aspects of how viewmodels "do stuff" and how you use datatemplates to generate UI.
    I can't remember if I recommended it previously to you:

    And I have working samples which are aimed at illustrating line of business architecture.  This is an incomplete step by step series but I  think more than enough to chew on once you've done the previous stuff.

    The write up for step2 is work in progress.

    Hope that helps.

    I need to convert PDF to Excel, however, columns and tabs make many merged cells and many blank columns. In addition to not separate the columns correctly, I see many not separate lines together in the same cell. I'm even thinking that Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has limitations. There is no way to define what points in columns to force break column? Nor create many columns that are useless? How does text to column in Excel, fixed size when we import text, and define where the breaks have columns?

    PDF does not contain columns, rows, formats, styles, or other aspects of word processing or spreadsheet file formats.
    This is because PDF is decidedly not a word processing or spreadsheet file format or something "like" one of those.
    (see ISO 32000 for what PDF "is")
    What can optimize the export of PDF page content is to start with a well-formed tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
    Without that export is what it is and one performs whatever content cleanup is needed using the native application for the export file (MS Word or Excel).

    I am sorry that you don't find the answer to be correct. In THIS forum, telling you that you are in the wrong forum, and suggesting where to post for correct answers, or indeed any support, IS the answer.
    I'm also sorry that you purchased a phone that you are having trouble with. If the vendor cannot help you (HTC), and the eBay seller cannot help you, then you really do need to either follow up with the forums Ken suggests, or the HTC forum, or with eBay.
