Merging xml files element by lement

Hi, I have two xml files of dept and emp tables. I want to merg these two xml files in such a way that the output should be grouped by deptnos.
i.e., under dept deptno 10 child node, i should get all emp child nodes who have deptno 10. How can I do this using DBMS_XMLDOM. Please help. Thank you.

Well, if you are building the dept and emp XML files yourself, then the easiest solution is to use one SQL/XML (XMLElement, XMLForest, XMLAgg) statement to build the required XML instead of building two pieces and trying to merge.
If you can't go that option, then you can use importNode and appendChild to insert your selected nodes into the correct spot in the main XML.
As a starter, here is a snippet of code that takes a single node from a temp DOMDocument and inserts it into the master DOMDocument at a certain location.
    l_inq_nodelist := dbms_xmldom.getelementsbytagname(l_temp_domdoc,
                                                       'theDesiredNode');
    l_inq_nl_len := xmldom.getlength(l_inq_nodelist);
    IF l_inq_nl_len > 0 THEN
       -- Take the node above and adopt it into the response document
       l_temp2_nd := dbms_xmldom.importNode(o_response_doc,
                                            dbms_xmldom.item(l_inq_nodelist, 0),
                                            TRUE);
       -- Put the node in the correct position in the response document
       l_temp2_nd := xdb.dbms_xmldom.appendChild(l_rsp_msg_nd, l_temp2_nd);
    END IF;I know your situation is slightly different as you need to take multiple nodes but once you can select out your nodes from the emp XML, you can use the above to insert into the dept XML. I would provide more samples but it has been a while since I've read XML via DOMDocument as I use XMLType when reading XML. Feel free to post what you have if you get stuck.

    EX:
    Student.XML: <root>..</StName>..</StAge>...</root>
    Employee.XML: <root>..</EmpName>..</EmpAge>...</root>
    CdCatalog.XML: <root>..</Cdtitle>...</CdNumber>...</root>
    I need one java program can ready any type of XML file elements and send to the Database table.

    Hi,
    What are you trying to achieve with a single WITH clause and no SELECT?
    Please see this from the documentation if you want to use it properly :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2077142
    Apart from its true purpose of subquery factoring, the WITH clause is often use here and there to simulate a table content, but you'll always need a SELECT.
    Maybe that's what you were trying to do?
    As for your question, starting with release 10.2, Oracle provides XMLTable to shred XML documents into relational structures.
    For example,
    with t as (
    select xmltype('<Message-Header>
    <Message-Id>1234</Message-Id>
    <Sender-Company-ID>4569</Sender-Company-ID>
    <Sender-Company-Name>abc company</Sender-Company-Name>
    <Sender-User-ID>AA</Sender-User-ID>
    <Recv-Company-ID>050</Recv-Company-ID>
    <Recv-Company-Name>XYZ pvt.ltd</Recv-Company-Name>
    <Creation-Time>20101019 15:59:39</Creation-Time>
    </Message-Header>') as xml from dual
    select x.*
    from t,
         XMLTable(
          '/Message-Header'
          passing t.xml
          columns
            message_id          number       path 'Message-Id',
            sender_company_id   number       path 'Sender-Company-ID',
            sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
            sender_user_id      varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
            recv_company_id     varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
            recv_company_name   varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
            creation_time       varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
         ) x
    ;If you're working in PL/SQL, and the XML resides in a variable, you can directly do (with necessary datatype conversion in the SELECT) :
    insert into your_table ( <your_columns_list> )
    select <your_columns_list>
    from XMLTable(
          '/Message-Header'
          passing your_xml_var
          columns
            message_id          number       path 'Message-Id',
            sender_company_id   number       path 'Sender-Company-ID',
            sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
            sender_user_id      varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
            recv_company_id     varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
            recv_company_name   varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
            creation_time       varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
         ) x
    ;

  • Merging XML Files After Debatching - 10.1.3.4

    I have a large fixed-width file which I am debatching and transforming to XML files:
    bigfile.txt (~52MB) -> file_%SEQ%.xml (~4MB each)
    resulting in:
    file_2001.xml (~4MB)
    file_2002.xml (~4MB)
    file_2003.xml (~4MB)
    file_2004.xml (~4MB)
    I would like to merge these resulting XML files back into one XML file:
    bigfile.xml (~52MB)
    I know the [Append="true"] attribute in the file adapter used to write the file won't "work" with XML files. I've tested this anyway and received "out of memory" errors while appending. This removes post-processing options.
    I'm new to BPEL and feel that I must be missing something simple. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
    You can create a temp variable of xsd type of bigfile.xml, read all below files one by one and within assign activity use append operation to append all xml files, when all read is complete, dispatch this message to file adapter to write file.
    file_2001.xml (~4MB)
    file_2002.xml (~4MB)
    file_2003.xml (~4MB)
    file_2004.xml (~4MB)
    Here, there is a possibility of out of memory error.
    Please try it,
    Regards

  • Merging XML files

    Hi All,
    I want to merge two XML files using XSL under Apache's Xalan.
    Or If there is any way to merge two XMI documents (XML For Metadata Ineterchange) then it is well.

    sure, use the document() function in XSL to call the content of another XML.
    <xsl:apply-templates select="document('http://myfile1.xml')"/>
    <xsl:apply-templates select="document('http://myfile2.xml')"/>

  • Issue with Date Conversion when loading XML File into Oracle 10g Database

    Hello all,
    I have the interface shown in the screenshot below. In it, amongst other actions, I'm mapping an XML file element representing a date to an Oracle table column defined as DATE. The source and target columns are highlighted in the screenshot.
    !http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/1565/odiscr275.jpg!
    When I execute the interface, I get the following error message:
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException at java.sql.Date.valueOf(Date.java:103)
    I'm assuming this refers to the date conversion!
    I've already tried replacing SRC_TRADES.DEAL_DATE with TO_DATE( SRC_TRADES.DEAL_DATE, 'DD/MM/YYYY' ) in the Implementation tab. This function was not recognised when I executed the interface, so it didn't work! The date value in the XML file is in DD/MM/YYYY format.
    I'm guessing that Oracle SQL Date functions don't work in the Implementation tab. Please could somebody let me know:
    1. Which Date Conversion function I could use instead?
    2. Where I can find a reference for the methods/functions I can use in the Implementation tab (if such a reference exists)?
    Cheers.
    James

    Hi.
    Try to change the execution area to staging area. After You change it, write in the mapping box just SRC_TRADERS.DEAL_DATE. When You use TO_DATE, the source field typu should be varchar2, not date (as it is in your source datastore)

  • Merge xml source files; 1:n relationship

    Hi!
    All samples I have checked are based on 1:1 relationship
    between master and detail data set.
    For example:
    Exactly one xml file will be loaded depending on which
    element of the master xml file is selected.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/DataSetMasterDetailSample.html
    But what about 1:n relationships? What if the master xml
    returns more than one depending xml file?
    Two scenarios are imaginable:
    1. Collect all detail xml data by looping through all data
    rows and create a dataset on the fly with all relevant data.
    (Please note my last posting "Observer event fires two times") That
    could be a new merge function ;-)
    2. Implementation of a new XMLDataSet constructor that allows
    an array with one or more path to detail xml file(s).
    What do you think about it? Or is there another way to handle
    1:n relationships?
    Regards
    libelle2000

    Hi !
    On Srpy 1.4 version the 1:n relation is not supported, but we
    have two new solutions for this already posted on preview section.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/preview/samples/data_region/NestedXMLDataSample.ht ml
    Instead of creating one master xml file that points to other
    details xml files, you can have a single xml and create there the
    1:n relation there. In this way your request is solved using a
    single xml file.
    Please follow the link I gave you above and see the examples
    from there.

    as it shows that each element "ROW" has data corresponding to different employee and with different details. actually these elemnt are the updates in an employee profile that have to be communicated to a distant located database. what i need is a tranformation into HTML so that the recieving user can view this file as html with relative headings of corresponding tables.
    (the schema at both ends is exact replica)
    any help in this regards would be obliging.

    thank you bro!
    the xml file has been created by importing multiple files resulted from XSU into a master file in java. we are running a web based project in a distributed environment. so i would need to make this page appear in a web browser with ACCEPT and REJECT command buttons as the receiver is the approving agent. what all i have thought of so far is to create a style sheet with templates of all heading of each table from where the data is coming from and then run a check on what table the data is from and place that specific heading on the entry. the style sheet would be placed at both ends so only the xml file will be transported and transformation would be done auto.
    i hope it works. but am not sure wether its the right approach or not.

  • Merging X XML files, sorting the resultlist and finally execute a distinct?

    I have several questions about an XSLT file that I should write:
    1 First, I get X paths to XML files. It can be 2, 3, 4, ... whatever a number. I don't know exactly the total amount of XML files.
    I need to merge them dynamicly to one resultset.
    2 Next, I need to sort them on a specific node (remark: every XML file has the same DOM tree)
    3 Finally, I want to distinct the values because some of the nodes are in file 1, 2, 3 ... So I don't want duplicates.
    I guess this is not possible in XSLT? I can't use Java, so it should be done using XSLT ;;;

    Have a look here:
    [http://www.jenitennison.com/xslt/index.html|http://www.jenitennison.com/xslt/index.html]
    under the "Sorting" and "Grouping" sections. Also consider using XSLT 2.0, which has built-in grouping elements which make the convoluted XSLT 1.0 techniques unnecessary.

  • Merging many XML files in diff directories

    I need to create a java program to merge many XML files in diff directories.
    Is there any standard code to do this?

    I need to create a java program to merge many XML
    files in diff directories.
    Is there any standard code to do this?Hi,
    For a document to be well formed or a valid XML document it should have only 1 root element containing other elements.
    So in case you want to merge different documents you need to create a new root element and append the child nodes of the different XML documents you want to merge excluding the first processing instruction containing the XML version and encoding.
    If you are sure that these XML that you are talking about are well formed then you can achieve this by simple File I/O. create a file create write the root element and then one by one copy the contents of other xml files except the first entity if any. Finally write the closing tag of the root element and you are done.

  • How to retrieve elements from 3 different xml file in one url

    Hi all,

    i just can only do it with one file only, any help would very appreciate.
    Thank in advance

    Hi Philip
    Thanks for replying me.
    I tried on that way, In my mdx query i am using one slice attribute (i.e [Customer].[Gender].allmembers) in rows so getting error "The  Hierarchy already appears in Axis1".
    SELECT
    {[Measures].[Internet Sales Amount] } ON 0,
    NON EMPTY
    {[Customer].[Gender].allmembers } ON 1 -- Used
    FROM
    [Adventure Works]
    WHERE
    [Customer].[Gender].&[M]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].[(All)]
    ,[Customer].[Country].[All Customers]
    [Customer].[Gender].[All Customers]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].&[XL]
    ,[Customer].[Country].[All Customers]
    [Customer].[Gender].[All Customers]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].[(All)]
    ,[Customer].[Country].&[Australia]
    Can you provide alternate ways to get resolved.
    Thanks in advance

  • XML file too large or XML element too large

    I am attempting to import an xml file into the repository and have it shred into the object-relational tables. I registered a schema and it created object-relational xml_tables, triggers, and types. The full xml file is > 80MB. XDB created all the fields as VARCHAR2(4000).
    error code when importing the full XML file. This is what I need to ultimately fix.

    Vendor code 30951Error at Line:18I would guess that some of the fields have max lengths > 4000. I plan to annotate the schema with SQLType="CLOB", but need to know which fields to change. I was able to copy the xml file and reduce that xml file to one record, which imported into the tables. My plan was to write a view over the bfile to get the lengths of certain fields, annotate the .xsd with CLOBS where needed, and then import again. In order to do that, I have a 1 record file imported into a table and as a bfile.
    Here is my code selecting length from a generated object-relational table of only one record.
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW pharma.drugs_vw AS
    SELECT d.*

    -- Note extractvalue is deprecated in 11gr2 replaced by W3C standard

    SELECT max(length(extractvalue(column_value, '/drug/drugbank-id'))) dbidlen,
           max(length(extractvalue(column_value, '/drug/name'))) nmlen,
           max(length(extractvalue(column_value, '/drug/description'))) desclen

                  7               9             229Is this better code for getting the maximum length of xml fields from a bfile? Here is what I have so far. This works on a single drugbank-id.

  • How to update Elements value inside existing xml file

    Hi Gurus,
    Am somehow new to java and working on xml with java, i have a scenario where i want to update the elements of my existing xml file, i know its possible as i have posted one code on this forum which updates the values of the arrtibutes of existing xml file. Ref :
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=34&thread=186091&start=15&range=15&hilite=false&q=
    But am not able to use the same code to update the vlaues of the attribute.
    if i have this xml file :
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <RootElement>
    <Transaction>
    <Task9>
    <TaskID>Task9</TaskID>
    <Description>My Test Case</Description>
    <Time>12/12/2004</Time>
    </Task9>
    </Transaction>
    <Transaction>
    <Task2>
    <TaskID>Task2</TaskID>
    <Description>Testing my xml</Description>
    <Time>12/12/2004</Time>
    </Task2>
    </Transaction>
    </RootElemen>
    Now i want to update teh </Description> and </Time> field using the code that i have given above in the link.
    If any one can help me ill really appreciate.

    The value of an element is stored in a child node of that element. For example, let's say that "e" references the node <Description> then:
    e.getFirstChild().getNodeValue() => "My Test Case"

  • How to Merge multiple XML  files in one file ( Env: XML Publisher 5.6.2)

    All,
    I have recently started working on XML publisher and have developed 3 reports in last 2 days using XML Publisher and integrating them with Concurrent programs.
    This is a great tool.
    I have got another requirement, where i need to use xml file generated by multiple run of same report with various parameters and then merge all xml file to a single report. Developing the whole custom process will take very long time and sure will have bugs in it. Instead i was thinking to use xml file generated by Oracle report itself.
    Report "US Gross to net summary" generates xml output in standard output directory and then show output in PDF file. I have 7 such file generated for each payroll. I want to merge output of xml into a single xml so that i can create single report having data from all 7 xml files showing me All payroll output in a single report.
    Can someone please guide me , how can i read xml file data from the output directory of a seeded concurrent program and how to manipulate data in it.
    Thanks
    Ankur

    Hi Tim,
    Thanks for replying. I have looked for "PDFBookBinder class" in xml publisher user guide for ver 5.6.2. I didn't get any reference of this text. Can you please guide me to a tutorial/link where i can get more information about this class.
    Also, i originally thought of similar to your second logic, as my design basis. Oracle process generates the xml file in output directory which i can get. What i didn't get is how do i "pick them up and merge" using publisher. Also, is there way to do this merging process using pl/sql ? Can you please give little more information on your second approach.
    My original plan of action is that i will create a report set in which i will call oracle seeded report for all 7 payrolls in a sequential manner. Then using the child requests of the report set i will get to 7 xml files generated by seeded oracle process. Then the piece i am not sure of , i will use those 7 files to generate a single xml file having payroll name as tree top for each output. Once single xml is ready, i can easily design a template and register the process to generate output as Excel.This process will not require me to actually change any data or do any calculation. It will only reformatting the feilds we see and abiity to see all 7 payroll at one time rather then entering these numbers manually into an excel to do analysis.
    Please provide your feedback, if you think above plan is not feasible or need corrections.
    Best Regards,
    Ankur

  • How to set a new value for an element inside an XML file....

    Hi guys...!
    I'm using Java to process an XML file and I want to able to make changes to the document. For instance, let say:
    <firstName> John </firstName>
    and I want to change the content or value of the element "firstName" to "Marc"
    <firstName>Marc</firstName>
    How can I get this done?
    This is the code that I have in my java file...But it doesn't work. Nothing happens. The firstName remains "John".
    Do I need to get the owner document to do this?
    firstPersonElement.getElementsByTagName("firstName").item(0).getFirstChild().setNodeValue("Marc");
    Any suggestions will be appreciated...
    Thanks...

    IMHO, it should work the way you describe. Do you
    actually save the DOM tree to file afterwards?Good point. No, actually.
    How do you save the document in that case ???
    Any suggestions...
    Thanks...
