Unable to connect to editor application in PSE4

I've been running PSE4 quite happily on XPHome for some years. Today, having down loaded some new photos, I clicked to open the Quick Fix editor and got a dialogue box saying "Attempt to access invalid address". When I clear this another db appears saying "Unable to connect to editor application". It also does this with the Standard Editor. I tried a repair through the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel but this had no effect so I did a full uninstal, reboot and installation from scratch. No joy. Anyone have any idea what's going on here and how I can fix it?!

Jill,
>unable to connect to editor application
Sometimes this problem is caused by corrupted PSE preferences. So I suggest that you look at this Adobe technical document - Troubleshoot system errors or freezes in Photoshop Elements (4.0 on Windows XP). It is at the following link
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=331968
Within that document, scroll down to its topic on
b Re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences files.
Then be sure that Photoshop Elements 4 is not active and that you have rebooted your computer since the last time you expereinced this error. Then follow the instructions for that step in the document.

• PS Elements 5.0, Unable to Connect to Editor Application

I open a photo in the Organizer. When I try going to Edit-Quick Fix, I get "Unable to Connect to Editor Application". I am abe to go to Ful Edit, from the Organizer and then to Quick Fix from te Full Editor.
After "fixing" the photo, in Quick Fix, I do a save as, which the program does, but when I go back to the Organizer the thumbnail is blank with an hour glass in it. The photo is still in te organizer, just not visible. Does anyone know what is going on? I did update to Adobe Reader 9, yesterday. Could this have caused a problem?
I am using Windows XP, with PS Elements 5.0.

Since I posted this question I have deleted 400 + pictures that I recently added to the organizer and it seems to have solved the problem of opening the editor. However when I open a photo in the organizer and then open the editor and make "fixes", the thumbnail does not appear in the organizer when I do a "save as" and leave the editor. All I see in the organizer is a blanked out spot with an hour glass where the photo should be. The organizer will still open the photo, just no thumbnail. Any suggestions?
Does anyone know if there are any limitations on the number of photos the organizer can accommodate?

• Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database (afscpgcs) after clone

Hi,
I have just moved (clone using rapidclone) two of our 11.5.10.2 install from a solaris SPARC 8 to 10 . After the clone, while discoverer 10g works perfectly well in one environment, it is giving the error below in the another environment.
- Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database (afscpgcs)
Notes:
1. For the 2 environments, nothing as changed apart from the hostnames.
2. The password has not changed on both - from source to targets.
3. This happens when launching discoverer 10g from Apps.... discoverer works well on it own if not launched from apps.
I raised a SR with oracle and the 2 things they said have not worked. they said
1. change signon password case parameter - but I cannot find that in the list of system parameters on our system.
2. The other note says apply patch 6430269 and I can confirm this patch has been on the system for sometime.
Please advise on this if you have come accross this before and you can help here.
Thanks

Thanks for your concern. I have used the notes you listed but no luck. One thing I have to point out here is that I have always cloned from solaris 8 to 8 for years without this problem. Now I am cloning from solaris 8 to 10 and the problems is on just one environment. The other is working well. The problem seems to be related to the apps password but the password has not changed at all. Also, I have tried to change the password to something else and ran autoconfig but no luck. Please help

• Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database invalid username/password

Hi,
Ou Requirement is we want to connect to Oracle Applications using discoverer plus and discoverer viewer.
Application Server used : 10.1.2.0.2
Oracle Applications : R12 RUP4
We have installed application server 10g with OID and when we try to connect to oracle applications we are getting
A connection error has occurred.
- Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password.
Regards
Ketan

Hi,
I think better to check with your sysadmin or DBA on this, I had the same isuse before but Apps 11i with Discoverer, I talked to ERP sysadmin and worked fine.
Since applications userid cannot talk with Discoverer schema (eul10_us) and it should directly talk with APPS user and then APPS user can talk with Discoverer user.
To the best of my knowledge I provided.

• A message "unable to connect to help application"

Hi,
I am running Photoshop Elements (PSE) 3.0 on a Powerbook G4, 1.25 GHz, 1.5 MB RAM (MacOS 10.4.6) without using Admin rights (because of security concerns).
Strangely, when trying to get any help from within PSE, after a long wait I get a message "unable to connect to help application". The "Help application" (approx 18 MB) is present in the PSE folder. I have tried to trash PSE from the application folder and re-install. To no avail.
At times some help with PSE would be nice! How to solve the problem?

Here I am trying to help a friend with this exact problem over a year later, and there are no answers to the above question. After some searching, I found references to Adobe TechNote 331147, which was created to "help you resolve problems that occur while you use the Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Help application."
Here's the answer, from that TechNote:
"The Photoshop Elements 3.0 Help application requires that the user have administrator privileges on Mac OS X."
So the reason you need administrator privileges is that Adobe has set it up that way. It's that simple, apparently.
Read the whole TechNote, if you want, at

• Unable to connect to wpf application using SQLEXPRESS 2012

Hi,
I am currently working on WPF project that uses SQLEXPRESS 2012 DB and EF 5.0.
I was able to connect to the DB when it was hosted on the same PC. I now hosted the DB to a differernt PC and trying to access it through WPF app, but getting the error as "The underlying provider failed to open". I went through various forums
to fix the issue but none of the solutions provided resolved the issue. Below is my connection string
<add name="SAPActivityContext" connectionString="metadata=res://*/SapEntity.csdl|res://*/SapEntity.ssdl|res://*/SapEntity.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=192.168.0.100\SQLEXPRESS;initial
catalog=Sap;persist security info=True;user id=sa;password=Pass@word7;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
The connection string has been refactored based on the various inputs provided in different forums.
Please help.

Hi Priyankaks,
According your description, you fail to connect to a SQL Server 2012 Express database from WPF application. Cloud you please post the full error message for further analysis? You can check Windows Event Viewer or SQL Server Error log to see
if there is additional information.
From my knowledge, the error “The underlying provider failed on Open” always occurs when the connection string is incorrect. I recommend you create a surely working connection string via the following method.
Create a new project, add your Entity Framework Data Model and select your required connection, click “Test Connection” to get a working connection string. Then copy and paste the connection string in the web/app.config of your own project. For more
details, please review this similar
thread.
There is also a blog about error “The underlying provider failed on Open“in Entity Framework application
for your reference.

• Unable to connect to Oracle Applications through SYSADMIN

Hi,
I have just installed Oracle Applications 11.5.10 on windows machine.
everything is completed successfully. Now while connecing through SYSADMIN account, error description says " You have insufficient privileges for the current operation."
Please guide me to resolve the issue.
Regards,
Neeraj

Hi Neeraj,
To solved that issue we changed hostname, to eliminate the underscore character, you will need to do that if you are going Internet Explorer on your clients.
After that, you will need to follow a special procedure to recreate your context files in the Apps and database tiers.
Try to follow Note: 218089.1 "Frequently Asked Questions About Using AutoConfig With Oracle Applications Release 11i", sections Net Services and Database Connectivity.
Sorry, but I don't have in this moment the exact Note number that I followed to solve that issue.
HTH.
Kind regards,
Francisco Mtz.

• Unable to Connect to: sysadmin@ my_Database

Hello all,
I am new to Oracle and for the past several days I have been trying to login to an Oracle apps database (11.5.10) through Discover desktop. I get the following error when trying to login as an application user
Unable to Connect to: sysadmin@<my_Database>
Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password.
I successfully installed Discoverer Administrator and Desktop clients (9.0.4). I also was able to login to Discoverer Administrator and successfully created an EUL with the "grant access to public" and "New EUL is for use by Oracle Applications users ONLY" options selected. I added a simple business area and granted the appropriate Security and Privileges to SYSADMIN.
I have looked all over and havent found anything that has helped.
Thank in advance
Maro

Hi Russ
Actually, in Discoverer 10.1.2 this setting is only required for Desktop and only if Apps is running in secure mode, HTTPS, which is quite common. For the web versions, Plus and Viewer, this setting is picked up from the OPMN.XML file which is located here:
On UNIX: <ORACLE_HOME>/opmn/conf/opmn.xml
On Windows: <ORACLE_HOME>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml
By default, in OPMN.XML there should be a setting called FND_SECURE which should point to the folder referred to by Magesh:
"C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\secure"
In fact the line should look like this:
<variable id="FND_SECURE" value="C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\secure"/>
where the $ORACLE_HOME for where the Discoverer server is installed being embedded like this: C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1
However, we still have to make sure that the secure files, those ending in DBC, are in fact located here. As Mugesh points out these can be found on the E-Business Suite server here:
$FND_TOP/secure
Discoverer will first attempt to find a secure DBC file with the filename <database name>.dbc. If not found, Discoverer will then attempt to use a file with the filename <host name>_<SID>.dbc.
By the way, if there is nothing defined for FND_SECURE, Discoverer will attempt to use the value specified by FND_TOP, which is the setting used by previous versions of Discoverer. In those installs, the DBS files would be located in the $ORACLE_HOME\Discoverer folder itself, not in a separate folder called secure.
By the way, the service name in tnsnames.ora and dbc file name should be same <service name>.dbc
