Messed up with my 'Macintosh HD' Sharing & Permission

Hi there, it will sooo highly appreciated if someone could REALLY help me one this one. I accidentally messed up my setting in my HDD. I went to my HDD and right click then I went to Get Info > Sharing & Pemission > Everyone > No Access (Originally was Read & Write). Now I can't boot in to my computer. Yeah, it is a silly mistakes but I'm still considered NEW to Mac.

I believe you can Boot into the Recovery Disk, from the Diskutility you can reset the Permessions. Hope this helps a bit

Sharing permission issues

i'm a mac newbie.
I have external hardisks that I partitioned into different volumes to act as my backup for different media. For example, there's a volume for music, pictures, etc. Because these are backups, I don't want any user beside me to access these volumes. So I set sharing permission as the following:
Me - Read and Write
Staff - Read only (What does staff mean?)
Others - No Access
However, when I tested and switched to a guest and a temp user I created, they can add, read, delete files from the volume root. They cannot however do anything to folders.
Questions:
1. Is security and sharing/permissions applicable to folders and down and not to the root volume?
2. How do I make it so that only I can access the volume from the root down.

Bottom line: you can't. Oh, you might be able to set the preferences so no users can access the drive when it's connected to your machine. (This isn't something that I have ever needed to do, so I'm not sure enough to answer that part.) But you should be aware that there's really no barrier against someone unplugging the drive from your machine, plugging it in to a different one with different users, and accessing all your data.
So, I guess the question is, how safe do you need this to be? Do you just need to make sure that no other users using your computer have access to those drives? Or do you need to keep those files totally secure? In the latter case, the only sure bet is encryption, which can be achieved using an encrypted disk image created with Disk Utility.

Domain users files sharing permission problem

We have a three domain controllers 192.168.92 .162,167,150 All domain controller working with
Global Catalog servers ( Root forest ) . All domain controller live synchronize with each others like Users , Group policy , ADS, DNS.
lastnight we had a problem with file sharing permission . it had been asked username & password . why this problem was happened ?
Finally we had restated with all domain controller then file sharing perfectly working fine .i had verified all events in domain controller there is no any error issue .
Note:- we are using juniper firewall is there any security issue ?

According to the
repadmin results, there isn’t any replication issue.
I was wondering how long did the issue last until reboots of DCs?
If the period is short, then this behavior is normal, because AD replication takes time, this issue could occur before AD replication has completed.
Another possible cause is related to Kerberos authentication and authorization mechanism.
During a logon session, once a user has been authenticated successfully, it gets an
access token containing its SID and group membership and privileges.
The user's access token is subsequently inherited by any application process that the user starts during the logon session.
If we change user’s group membership and privileges
after the access token has been issued, the changes won’t be updated until this user logs off and logs on again.

How to deal with token Windows machines with regard to file sharing

We have an office of about 12 Macs, but we have couple of token Windows machines too.
Each Mac user has their own username and password for logging into there machine/server, administered by a Standard setup of Mac OS X Server (Server Preferences).
The question is what should I do with the Windows machines on the network with regard to file sharing and authentication? They don't need individual accounts; they could just have general accounts, but I don't know how to set them up with regard to the server.
Do I simply need to make sure that the username user to log into the Windows machine is a user on in Server Preferences?

Struggled all day with atv and home sharing

yesterday, home sharing and Apple TV worked fine. As did using my iPad and iPhone as an atv remote. Today despite about 5 hours of messing about with it all I cannot even see anything that should be visible via home share. All products are relatively new, all have latest updates, all have home sharing switched on (been switched on and off a number of times today) mac has been restarted too. Only thing I have done recently is buy iTunes match (should have any impact though). I am completely at my wits end with it all. If anyone can suggest a solution I would be really grateful

You've been doing good troubleshooting steps thus far. I have this to add:
Restart your computer
Unplug from power for about one minute: your Apple TV and your networking devices (modem/router/wifi extenders, etc)
If you have any firewalls activated on your computer, disable them for testing purposes. If you have a Mac, the built-in one is at: "Apple menu > System preferences > Security & Privacy"

Calander Sharing Permission is not effective between Exchange 2007 & Exchange 2013 User

When a Exchange 2013 mailbox user share a calander with user in Exchange 2007 with OWNER permission, but Exchange 2007 user cannot modify or view full details of Exchange 2013 user calander.
And same behavior from Exch2007 user sharing calander with Exch2013 user.
In both scnarioes we can view only free/busy information. Cannot see full details of the meetings, cannot edit/modify. But permissions are set correctly.
Getting Yes or No prompt window with message "You dont have permission to view the calander, Do you want to as User A to share his or her calander with you?"
We are in Co exsistance with Exch2007 and Exch2013 CU3.

Does the issue happen to all users? What about Exchange 2007 users share calendar with Exch2007 users?
Please double check whether calendar permissions are configured properly. If possible, we can remove the permission in Outlook then re-add it back later to check whether it works.

I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and now my MacBook Pro won't start up.

I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and moved the system.kext and two others to my desktop and deleted the originals and now the MacBook Pro won't start up. All I get at start up is the apple icon then a bunch of text shows up part of which says Mac OS version: not yet set. then the apple icon turns into the power icon and tells me to turn off the computer. I've tried reinstalling from the install DVD by holding down option when powering on and selecting the install DVD and it just goes to a white screen with the apple icon and stays like that. I didn't have the disk utility on my Mac before this happened because I deleted it to make room on my computer a while ago so I'm not sure if that's why it won't load the install DVD but anyone who knows the solution to this with out going to get it repaired would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Never mind my dad just found the original install DVD and that worked. Before I was using an install disc that Apple sent me for another issue I was having, but thanks for replying so quickly and trying to help on this Thanksgiving day!!!

Variables of one task is getting messed up with other tasks

Hi,
I have one workflow (one subworflow is getting called by this workflow) which is using some global variables. The problem is that when more than one users are making simultaneous requests (not neccessarily at same time), values of global variables of one request are getting messed up with other's requests. Even at start of workflow I am assigning null value to these variables. I am using IdM 7.0. Can anyone provide any clue on this?

I am using a variable like "comments" and assigning null at start of the workflow like
<Variable name='comments'>
<null/>
</Variable>
Value of comments are cached somehow and in other request, when other user is opening the same form for making request, it is getting displayed in comment field. I have tried all the way of making null to this variable, but no luck. And it is not happening all time, it is intermittent and happens only in few cases.

I was messing arouond with the general settings and I turned on the voice (under General settings) and when the screen timed out, I can't get it to take my 4 number passcode to get into my ipad. Please help! I'm totally locked out!

I would appreciate any help I can get. I was just messing around with the general setting on the ipad (64GB 3G...1st edition ipad), and did not realize that if I went under the general settings and changed the option to turn "on" the voice over, that it would require a double click on everything automatically. I have my ipad set up to lock after 2 minutes on non-use, and when I tried to sign back in, it said that my 4 digit passcode was incorrect. Then I tried to double click on each number, and that didn't seem to work. The numbers 1-9 seemed to input ok, but a zero seemed to throw it off. I have no idea if it has anything to do with it, but any help on getting back in to my ipad, I would greatly appreciate it, and I will be turning off that stupid voice over off as soon as I can. I was just goofing off, and was not going to let it stay on permenantely, but I tried to go back under the settings immediately, and I couldn't easily find it, but if someone could help on just getting me back in....I would owe you a big favor!

Touch or tap the field that you want to use/select and it should get a box around it ; then double-tap that field to activate/type it. Once you've entered your password you can do the same (i.e. touch to select, double-tap to activate) to gradually get into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off.
So to enter your passcode you first need to tap the 'slide to unlock' button to hightlight it (it should get a box around it), then double-tap it to unlock it. Then for your passcode tap the digit that you want and it should get a box around it; then double-tap that digit to type it; and similar for the other three digits in your passcode.
The manual (http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad) also that you should be able to switch voice-over off by connecting to your computer's iTunes :
Turn VoiceOver on or off in iTunes: Select iPad in the iTunes sidebar. In the Options section of the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access. Select VoiceOver, then click OK.
So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither

I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account.Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address). While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud. You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

Is it possible to manage multiple apple ID's from 1 e-mail account? I don't want users of an ihone to mess about with the apple store

I am the telecom manager of a small company and I want to manage the iPhones in the company myself ( 7 pieces ) so that a user can not mess about with the phohe and the app store. I already found out how to block some of the functionality of the phone. I don't want to setup appleID's per users e-mail address because the confirmation of the apple ID will always be sent to the users of the phone.

Nope. You can only have one credit card attached to an account at a time. Its not that big of a deal to use two accounts, users do this all the time. Create the second account(UK Account) in iTunes on your computer...sign out of your Italian account first. Then authorize your computer for this new account: Store>Authorize this computer. Then sync your phone. Now, to switch accounts on your phone: Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...then sign back in with the ID you want to use.

iphone contacts "not available" to car phonebook after messing around with Outlook.pst files, names and backups, on my ms XP 2003 laptop. I substituted a much smaller new Personal Folder -Contacts File, with a smaller list of phone numbers (4 only as a test) which successfully synced to the iPhone 4. The iPhone connects to the Skoda Octavia HandsFreeSystem OK (Bluetooth works fine), but now iPhone wont load the new Contacts as it did originally. However a family Nokia (never messed with) can connect properly. So must be the iPhone or more likely an Outlook.pst \ Contacts problem. Ideas?

After fiddling a little more, the following fixed my corrupted outlook.pst file:
1) I made a backup
2) In outlook under file, I exported the calendar to excel
3) In outlook under file, I imported the calendar back to outlook
And voila, it worked.

I've tried a lot of things, but my Macintosh classic (with original floppys) runs 7.0.0. And the PowerBook needs atleast 7.0.1 and did run 7.1.0 as original OS.

Because your PowerBook 145B shipped with OS 7.1, it can't run an earlier version of the Mac OS, such as 7.0.1. Unfortunately, Apple never made OS 7.1 available for download. You can run OS 7.5.1, 7.5.3, and 7.5.5 on your PowerBook, but I'd recommend doing so with the maximum amount of supported memory - 8 MBs. The 19-part download of OS 7.5.3 is segmented, so that each one will fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk. The problem is that the 19-diskette set isn't an installer set as such, having no bootable disk. It's solely intended to be used to transfer the individual segments to the resident hard drive in the computer. Once that's done, double-clicking the first .smi segment creates the OS 7.5.3 installer disk image on the desktop, which you drag onto the hard drive icon. This produces a folder with the OS 7.5.3 installer in it. I've done this before with an old Mac LC and it works. You can also download the 3-diskette OS 7.5.5 Update and run that. These downloads can be found on the same page where you found the OS 7.0.1 download: Older Software Downloads.
