Microsoft Test Manager (MTM)

Hi,
I have a licensed Microsoft Visual Studio running on m y machine. It also includes MTM (Microsoft Test Manager), which I'd like to start using. However, whenever I run it, I'm required to enter my Microsoft Team Foundation server. What on earth is that?
What should I enter? How can I start using MTM?
Thanks!

Hi Yanm22,
I agree with the chamindac and John's suggestion, so I suggest you can refer their suggestion check your issue.

  • How to debug a Diagnostic Data Adapter (custom data collector) for Microsoft Test Manager

    Hello,
    I have created a custom Diagnostic Data Adapter aka. custom data collector for Microsoft Test Manager (MTM) and installed it, all according to the guidelines under  Creating
    a Diagnostic Data Adapter to Collect Custom Data or Affect a Test Machine.
    I would like to debug my data collector. On which machine should I perform the debugging and to which process should I attach from Visual Studio? Are there any restrictions regarding the user who is running the debug session?
    How can I do that?
    Thank you ,
    Ana

    It seems that I found the solution, but I would like someone still to verify if it is the right one.
    Steps:
    Turn on "Microsoft Symbol Server" under In Tools-->Options-->Debugging
    Restart manually "Visual Studio Lab Agent Service" on the machine where the collector is installed (this actionautomatically restarts the  Visual Studio Test Agent ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\QTAgentService.exe"))
    Load code for your collector in Visual Studio
    Attach the Visual Studio debugger to the processes QTAgentService.exe and QTDCAgent32.exe
    Start test in MTM on client machine using test setting which trigger the data collector (diagnostic data adapter)
    and finally hit a brake point in your code...
    Thank you,
    Ana

  • Microsoft Test Manager 2010(I am trying to add a link, so the link will appear in the expected results)

    Hi,
    In Microsoft Test Manager I am trying to add a link in the expected reults tab, so the person testing the test case can click on the link without closing down anything. I am able to add the link in the expected results area, but there is no hyperlink coming
    up, so the tester would have to copy and paste it. Is there a way around this?
    PS. Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I did not see Test Manager.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • What is the excel emplate which we need to use to upload test cases in to Microsoft Test Manager 2013?

    Hi,
    Currently we are writing test cases in a excel spread sheet and wnted to upload exel in the Microsoft test Manager 2013.
    I understand that there is a tool 'TestCaseMigrationPlus' which we can upload to MTM but could you please let me know the template which i need to follow for eg: column names which i need to define to upload the excel using 'TestCaseMigrationPlus'

    Thanks for Senthilraj's help.
    Hi Nallapati,
    >>could you please let me know the template which i need to follow for eg: column names which i need to define to upload the excel using 'TestCaseMigrationPlus'
    As far as I know that the test case template in the MTM like the following screen shot:
    So when you define and upload the excel using TestCaseMigrationPlus into the Microsoft test Manager 2013. I suggest you need to define the test steps for test case like the above screen shot include the Action column and Expected column.
    If you still have any issues, I suggest you can also post this issue directly to the TestCaseMigrationPlus :

  • Screen resolution problem in Microsoft Test Manager by Testing Windows Store Apps

    Hi,
    we are trying to perform tests of Windows Store Apps in a remote device (tablet), so as it is explained in:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh405417.aspx
    However, when we take a screenshot or we record a video, it is only shown a little part of the screen, because PC and Tablet screen resolutions are different.
    How could we solve this problem? Any idea?
    Thanks.

  • Very slow running CUITs in both Visual Studio and Microsoft Test Manager

    I've tried the exact same test cases on another less powerful computer and it runs perfectly. However on one machine it runs very slow. It seems to take ages finding execute each step. Not sure what is going on. Help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daithi,
    Based on your issue, I suggest you could try to create a simple coded UI test such as you can record the Calculator action and then check if you still get the issue about
    running CUITs very slow in VS.
    In addition, I suggest you could try to delete all the temp files from your system and other temp files, or in short you can just log off and then log in back again....you'll definitely find your automation run faster.
    There are two blogs shared us some suggestions to improve the coded UI test performance, I often use them, if possible, please check them.

  • Generating Test Results (Reporting) from Microsoft Test Manager

    Hello,
    I would like to generate a report for the executed testcases in TM, but unfortunately, I can't find any directions of how to generate such report. Is there a way to generate such report without using thirdparty software/addons?
    What I am looking for in this report:
    Testplan name;
    Testsuite ID;
    Testsuite title;
    Testcase ID;
    Testcase title;
    Teststep ID;
    Teststep itself (if possible)
    Expected results (if possible)
    Testresults per teststep or otherwise per testcase (Passed; Failed; Blocked etc...)
    Applications info:
    VS2013
    TM2013
    Thank you in advance!

  • Doubt about using automation testing in mtm and vs 2012

    Hi
    Ive a doubt in using mtm and vs 2012. I wanna test a software by automation method
    1) whether i should record the steps in visual studio and attach the recorded file to mtm and test
    or
    2) can i record the script(steps) in mtm and run the automation testing in mtm, if you say yes what are the step.
    Plz help me out for both 1 and 2 by tell the steps.
    Thank you

    Pavan kumar R

    Hi Pavan,
    It is based on the detail requirement to choose them.
    Do Coded UI test in visual studio 2012, we could record the action and playback, link tests to test case that in MTM, we also could base on the detail requirement to modify the code.
    Do manual or automated test in MTM 2012, we also could record the action and playback, but can’t modify the code (need do it in vs), we could do automated tests in lab environment
    # System Testing Your Application Using Microsoft Test Manager
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj635157(v=vs.110).aspx
    For the automated test in MTM, you could refer to these steps below:
    Create tests
    Check in TFS
    Link test methods to test case
    Queue a build
    Create lab environment in mtm
    Do automated test
    More information, please refer to:
    # Essential Guide for Running Automated Tests from a Test Plan
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff472576(v=vs.110).aspx
    If we record the action (script/steps) in the MTM, we could
    playback the test, if we want do the automated test for that recording, we could generate the code in VS and link that test to the test case, after that we could do automated tests.

  • Microsoft Test Agent appears to be blocking Outlook connectivity to Exchange

    Core Problem
    The problem I am having is that connectivity to Exchange from Outlook is blocked while executing an integration test through the Microsoft Test Agent (i.e. Outlook
    is in the disconnected state). The test is launched through Microsoft Test Manager.
    Below is the code for the integration test I am having problems with and I simplified the code as much as possible to rule out code within the integration test
    causing the problem. I also eliminated all other tests from running.
    [TestMethod]
    public void LaunchOutlook()
    Process.Start(new ProcessStartInfo(@"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Outlook.exe"));
    Thread.Sleep(120000);
    I can change how long Outlook is blocked by changing the Thread.Sleep timeout. While the test is running, I can restart Outlook and Outlook is still blocked.
    After the test ends while Outlook is still running, connectivity to Exchange is restored. This happens for Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013. If I run the integration test within a console app, Outlook connectivity is not blocked. If I run the test code manually
    through MSTest.exe, Outlook connectivity is not blocked.  The only way it’s blocked is if the integration test is executed by the Microsoft Test Agent which is the required approach for integration testing.
    More details on the problem
    Outlook is running on a machine that is part of a Hyper-V Lab with network isolation enabled. There are other machines within the same lab that have Outlook
    instances pointed against the same Exchange server. Executing the test on one machine causes Outlook connectivity issues with other machines within the same lab where the Outlook instances are pointed at the same Exchange server.
    I have small Hyper-V lab with network isolation enabled which is very similar to the lab mentioned above. The major difference is that it only has one machine
    with Outlook installed. This Outlook is able to connect to Exchange while executing the test above through Microsoft Test Manager. It is very clear that this is an environmental issue since it works in one lab and not the other. Both labs have the same Exchange
    server installed, and the same Microsoft Test Agent installed on all machines within the lab.
    I have ruled out the Outlook version as being the issue since the larger lab contains the same Outlook version as the Outlook version in the smaller lab.
    During test run
    Notice that Outlook is in the disconnected state.
    After test run.
    Notice that Outlook is not connected to Exchange.
    Environment Information
    Outlook 2010 Version: (14.0.7113.5000) SP2 (14.0.1740.5002) 64-bit or 32-bit Outlook 2013 Version: (15.0.4667.1000) MSO (15.0.4675.1002) 64-bit or 32-bit Windows
    7 Version: 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    Exchange 2013 Version: 15.0 ‎(Build 847.32)‎ Windows Server 2008 R2 Version: 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) Microsoft Test Manager 2013 Version: 12.0.31101.0
    TFS 2013 Update 4 Version: 12.0.31101.0 Microsoft Test Agent Version: 12.0.31101.0 Update 4
    Troubleshooting Steps
    I launched procmon and looked for failed TCP and UDP operations for indication of network failures and found none.
    I turned on enable troubleshooting logging in Outlook and nothing within the logs looks obvious.
    Pinging the Exchange server while the test is running still works.
    I ran the integration test through the command line using MSTest.exe and outlook connectivity is not blocked.
    Requesting Help
    Can you please help me troubleshoot this problem? I see two approaches to identifying the problem.
    Looking for differences between the two environments
    Obtaining logs or other information that would expose the core problem.
    I am open to suggestions or ideas especially if you have a different approach to solving the problem. Feel free to ask for other information related to the problem
    like logs, PowerShell commands, and registry values.
    If you are short on time, can you at least post some suggestions or ideas related to resolving this problem?
    Thanks, Keith

    After installing fiddler I figured out what the problem was. The Microsoft Test Agent was activating a proxy server which was blocking connectivity to exchange. The proxy server was activated due to having the ASP.Net Client Proxy for IntelliTrace and Test
    Impact turned on.
    Below is a link to the article with the exact same problem.
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/ecc0b342-8e4d-436c-90c2-5f11bce1e9d8/proxy-server-settings-being-set-automatically-which-is-causing-me-not-to-be-able-to-run-manual-test?forum=vsmantest

  • Test Manager cannot install Test Agent on selected VMs (trying to create a new environment)

    I am trying to create a new SCVMM environment.
    I picked a bunch of VMs that are up and running.
    I know the administrator credentials for these VMs (It's the same for all of the chosen VMs)
    I have a test controller on my dev machine which is also up and running.
    But I'm getting an error in the Verification step saying -
    "Microsoft test manager cannot install test agent on these machines. Possible causes:
    - Machines are not running or they are not available on the network.
    - The File and Printer sharing exception is not enabled on the machines."
    I have done the following -
    1) Disabled firewalls on all the machines
    2) Network Adapters on all the machines are connected (ON) and their drivers are up to date
    3) Enabled file and printer sharing exceptions on all machines
    Still getting the same error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a bunch!

    That's probably a very well written description of what
    you've done... it seemed refreshingly thorough. I'm on the verge of
    a cold or something, with a slightly fuzzy brain, so what I thought
    I read seemed to describe you've done just about everything
    correctly, except for one thing (maybe another)... If you gave the
    button the instance name stepin...
    stepin.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,
    mouseDownHandler);
    and you could/should change that from MOUSE_DOWN to CLICK
    If that's not the problem, then it is possible the issue
    arises due to the tween. Be sure to have the button instance name
    assigned at both ends of the tween (I'm assuming by classic tween
    you mean a timeline tween). For some reason objects don't like to
    give up some of their past life's properties when moving from one
    frame to the next, so if the beginning of the tween doesn't have an
    instance name, then it's likely that it stays that way when it
    reaches the other end despite you assigning the name there.
    PS - for the stepin button, if you haven't already done so,
    you should open it for editing and draw a rectangle in the 4th
    (Hit) frame that covers the entire area of the text. It will not be
    visible, but will allow clicking between letters in the button...
    making it easier to click on

    I have seen that problem happening before, even that i was never able to figure out why, something that you can try is changing the service log in credentials for both:

    and use a proper user with admin rights.
    let me know if that helped

  • Running Unit Test from test manager that run bat file from command line

    Hi ,
    I am trying to run Jsystem (java framewotk) from command line using runScenario.bat thru unit test that i associated to test in test manager.
    the idea is that when i ran the automated test  from MTM - it will run the the unit test that will run the appropriate test case in java.
    i wrote the code like this :
    using System;
    using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting;
    namespace UnitTestProject3
    [TestClass]
    public class UnitTest1
    [TestMethod]
    public void TestMethod1()
    try
    String command = "c:\\JSYSTEM\\runner\\runScenario.bat
    c:\\Users\\ryeshua\\Source\\Workspaces\\Auto1\\my-tests-project\\target\\classes scenarios\\feature1 RoeySetup.xml ";
    System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo procStartInfo =
    new System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo("cmd", "/c " + command);
    procStartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
    procStartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
    //procStartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
    System.Diagnostics.Process proc = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
    proc.StartInfo = procStartInfo;
    proc.Start();
    string result = proc.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd();
    Console.WriteLine(result);
    catch (Exception objException)
    // Log the exception
    and when i ran it from visual studio it worked perfect. and update  the Jsystem logs of the junit test in the jsystem/runner/log folder.
    but when i added it to associated test and ran it from MTM - it pass but it does not update  the logs in jsystem folder.
    the problem that i dont know what is not working. i cant see the output of it when i ran from mtm but can see when i ran from VS.
    i am using VS 2013 Pro with MTM 2013.
    please advice
    Roey

    Hi Roey,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    Based on your issue, could you please tell me how you generate the log file under the jsystem folder?
    Generally, I know that when we run unit test from VS IDE, the file will be saved into the local machine. But when we run unit test from MTM, the unit test method will be run on the test agent machine, so the file will be saved into the test agent machine.
    Therefore, I suggest you could check if you did not see the updated logs file in jsystem folder on the test agent machine.
    In addition, I suggest you could try to copy this unit test project on this test agent machine and then run the unit test method using mstest.exe in command line and then check if you can update the logs file.

  • Oracle Test Manager - Import of Manual Tests - Fails with ORA-12520:

    Hi,
    This issue occurs when we are trying to import manual tests into the Oracle Test Manager.
    The import fails when we try to import more than 300 records. The error message in the log
    is as shown below:
    Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
    ORA-12520: TNS:listener could not find available handler for requested type of server
    9:50:30:020 - *** DB Exception *** State:S1000,Native:12520,Origin:[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]

    State:S1000,Native:12520,Origin:[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]
    No one can logon to the application after this.
    According to the DBA the application is using up all the processes in the Database and hence it fails.
    When we restart the application service, the number of processes in the database goes down
    and the application goes back to normal state.
    We keep running into this issue when we try to import >=300 manual tests. (This is not an issue
    when runs are imported.)
    Anybody else facing this issue? Any ideas as to how this can be resolved?
    Thanks
    Aruna

    Hi,
    I had some problems with. So, consider the following:
    Simple XLS file :
    testname     owner     testdescription               Expected Result
    test1          wayne     Login into User Homepage     User can view login prompt
                   View Accout Details          User can see account details
                   Create simple report          User has access to reports section
                   Save as pdf               .pdf generate button is available
                   send email               email button is active
                   log off                    User can View log off page
    So we have four fields, teatname,owner,testdescription and Expected Result.
    When we import a test (select Test tab, then project->import data, and select .xls file)
    Make sure Select Type is set to Manual Tests
    Map      testname -> TestCase ID
         owner -> Owner
         testdescription -> Test Step Action
         Expected Result -> Test step expected result
    Make sure Select Type is set to Manual Tests. You should then see one test with all the steps.
    Regards
    Wayne.
