I need information or case studies of success in this type of migration if any, and under what parameters were or are made, specifically the overall picture of those who have tried to make this type of process.
If I could help.
Any information is useful regardless of my language ...

Best regards,
I have a tool to migrate from Forms & Reports Ordem call, which allows the automatic migration of Oracle Forms Developer written in versions 3.0, 4.5, 5.0, 6i or 9i to the latest version Oracle Forms Developer 10g to 10g or JAVA .
If you require more information from our tool I can send information to e [email protected] and gladly put myself in communication with you and review the issue in detail.

  • Oracle forms to j2ee/web application

    Hello all,
    I need help with converting "oracle forms" to j2ee/web application. There are only 2-3 forms. But I needed to know how to do it from scratch. I looked at some softwares available to do it. But its costly.
    Basically the company I am working with, needed all the forms online, so that they can access it using a browser. As part of the development, I am using jdeveloper 10g.
    could some help me out
    Thanks a lot
    san

    Well if you need your Forms accesible from a browser you don't need to convert them to Java - you just use Forms on the Web - http://otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade
    If you still want to convert to Java have a look at the Forms page for more info:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms
    and also here:

  • How to convert oracle forms in j2ee platform

    hi,
    i want to know how can i convert oracle forms into j2ee platforms. if is it possible then please tell me the steps that i need to follow .
    thxs

    What you are asking is a bit like "how can I convert a dishwasher into a washing machine".
    If you want to know the the steps I would say.
    1) Work out what kind of washing machine you want to convert to
    2) Learn the technical details of that washing machine
    3) Rearchitect your diswasher plans so it fits into the "model" of a dishwasher
    4) Now spend lots of time money and effort doing it.
    Now, I don't know if thats going to help you. But if you tell us the WHY it might help formulate a response

  • Converting Oracle Forms to J2ee - (Focus on Form triggers/ Form Procedures)

    Hi,
    We are in the process of exploring the option of migrating forms to J2EE using JheadStart tool. After migration of forms using Jheadstart tool, what will happen to my Form triggers, Procedures? Does the GUI look and feel - canvases and tabbed pages etc will be exactly same?
    Ex: I have created a sample master detail form with few buttons and triggers. After migrating the form using jheadstart evaluation copy, I am not finding the buttons and as well as any logic enforced on buttons. On top of that the GUI is not same as in FORM, it comes with one find window and then navigates to master detail block. Does that mean, I need to customize the pages also for each form to be migrated?
    Would be very much thankful to you for your early response on the same.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Venkateswar NDT

    Venkateswar,
    JHeadstart Designer Generator does not transform all functionality of your Forms into J2EE. JHeadstart focuses on providing the same data reporting and manipulation capabilities.
    The reason for this is that we want to produce an application that can easily and productively be maintained and extended. The migration is not the final stage of the trip, it is only the beginning of the journey. The migration result should be (close to) what you would have developed from scratch.
    What is not migrated:
    * Business logic coded in Forms
    * Fancy layouts that cannot be built using HTML
    * Complex, cross-forms navigation
    We think this is preferrable over line by line translations of PL/SQL into Java, because the Forms architecture is so different from J2EE architecture. It would lead to a badly structured J2EE application that would be very hard to maintain. Instead, we want to give you a head start in creating a well structured, maintainable J2EE application.
    You get a migrated application with:
    * Professional and powerful HTML user interface
    * Most common layout styles are fully generated
    * Compliant with the Model-View-Controller Paradigm
    * Component based architecture that enables you to wire different business component together
    In the JHeadstart Developer's Guide (which is shipped with the evaluation copy), chapter 5, you can find more about the JHeadstart Designer Generator. Look for example at page 5-19 and onwards, for details about what parts of Designer Modules are transformed. You can also take a look at the JHeadstart Designer Generator Reference, to which a link is included in the JHeadstart Documentation Index ([JHeadstart Home]\jheadstart\doc\index.html)
    Hope this helps,

  • Converting Oracle Forms to J2EE

    Hi,
    I was just wondering if the conversion of the forms using jHeadStart will require a lot of recoding of application logic attached to the forms. As oracle forms has a lot of built-in form triggers, how will this be converted using jHeadStart? Will it entirely disappear from the converted code?

    George,
    From the thread 'Does JHeadstart retain business logic after forms9i migration?':
    [...] the JHeadstart Designer Generator will not covert any PL/SQL logic.
    Apart from the fact that this would be a very complicated task indeed, the functionality behind the PL/SQL logic in most cases will not have a 1:1 equivalent in a web application, so a conversion will not make sense anyway.
    The philosophy behind the JHeadstart Designer Generator is to assist in a true migration to a Java/XML based application, where functionality is implemented using the proper technology for that platform. This rather than converting a solution that made sense using Designer/Developer, but that you would never have used when you build a Java/XML application from scratch.

  • J2EE and Oracle Forms

    Hi,
    I'm going to develop a Web Application, one of the requirements is to use a the Java Programming Language and Oracle Database Engine.
    I have read a lot of OTN Documentation about the Oracle Forms Web capabilities, and I read about the collaboration between Oracle Forms and J2EE Applicatons.
    Does anybody have a link (from a Third-Party Vendor different from Oracle) containing the pros and cons of Oracle Forms (Web enabled) and a really J2EE application?
    Any comment is appreciated.

  • Is there a Migration tool for migrating Oracle forms 5 to Java

    Hi,
    I would like to know if there are any oracle tools available for migrating Oracle forms to j2ee.I read that " Oracle JHeadstart 10g" migrates the forms 6i to java/html.Does Oracle JHeadstart 10g also migrate forms 5 to j2ee.I am new to both oracle forms and j2ee and any information about this would be a great help.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin,
    there are a couple of migration partners that offer their migration tool and many are listed on the otn page for Forms (otn.oracle.com/products/forms). You may want to make yourself a picture of how efficient such a migration coul dbecome

  • How to deploy oracle forms + J2EE application in single OC4J instance

    We have ORACLE forms application, which is deployed in OC4J Instance in application server.
    There are some modules, which are developed in Java/J2EE, which are invoked from Oracle forms application. Currently this java application is
    deployed in separate OC4J instance.
    Could you please help us how to combine this forms +J2ee application in single ear file,
    And this ear file has to be deployed in one OC4J instance.

  • It looks Oracle Form/Applet  die hard versus J2EE Servlet/JSP/JSF  & AJAX

    I left the form forum for a while and am busy with transfering our Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application (just because the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control.). After a year or so on J2EE which I enjoyed the fresh OO coding while keep enhancing Oracle webform app in production, I have some thought on Applet vs J2EE JSP/JSF plus AJAX.
    1) JSP itself is hard to avoid the full screen refreshing even though user just does partial changes ,e.g., lists, on the screen, it has to use AJAX to do the tricks. While partial refreshing in applet is natural default behavior.
    2) Forms is really an RAD, while J2EE's IDEs does help a bit(IBM's Websphere v6 even called iRAD) which takes way longer programming time compared to Forms. One IBM's article says it trys to win the Oracle Forms developers by giving the familiar graphical way of drag/drop GUI, so IBM recognizes the RAD coding power of Oracle Forms. So, IBM promotes the RAD similar to Oracle Forms.
    3) GUI/business rules related validation: Applet offered a great advantage over JSP/ even JSF which to avoid the full screen refresh, AJAX/JavaScript is used heavily. User friendly interaction of applet is way better than J2EE.
    4) Browser's back/refresh buttons also are headache to J2EE, expecially we need to support IE and Firefox. Applet basically is not bothered by these buttons.
    Recently, I read techi news said that the new chips will make the network transfer speed 10 time faster than now-even the cell phone transfer the image will be way faster. Then I predict the applet, just like IBM's mainframe, will see its Spring again, not like now in its winter. Especially the Oracle Forms makes coding easier than pure applet coding.
    Oracle folks, kepp beefing up the Oracle Forms, don't just pay attention to JDev. J2EE IDE, most of all, remove the Oracle EE ASxx block, be open. Oracle EE ASxx is really not a pretty baby, even though so Oracle thinks it is.

    1) Why we are transfering your Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application?
    Since our corporate is IBM world-DB2/UDB, WebSphere AS (WAS) etc. It only allows Oracle Forms/reports servers to be compatible with the infrastructure. It does not allow to purchase another EE app server(espeically LDAP). We could not upgrade our forms/reports6i to 9i or 10g.
    2.Therefore the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control because I did my best to talk to Oracle sales, but no avail. I am glad that I got a good chance to beef up my J2EE Struts skills.
    If extract out the forms/report9i/10g engines from the Oracle EE AS 9i/10g, (don't attempt to bundle sell the EE AS to customers-regardless of the shrinked 9.0.4 forms/reports services version, it's still another EE AS) and make them compatible with other ASs(espcially the LDAP), then Oracle Forms will have more customers.

  • Migrate Oracle Apps Forms to J2EE

    Hi,
    I need to migrate Oracle Apps(11i) Forms to J2EE.
    I went through Oracle Partners who provide these migration tools but none provides trial version to test/use.
    How do I migrate forms.
    Or is there any way so that I can replace forms with my custom screens?
    Need your help.

    Its probably too long an answer to write here but I always like to start with the WHY?
    The one thing that is fact is that this will cost you considerable time and effort so you have to be very clear on your reasons. Furthermore, there is no "magic bullet". There is no tool or solution that can "with one click" migrate your application - unless your application is Emp/Dept of course ;o)
    You also have to seriously consider the need (infact I would say REQUIREMENT) that any migration MUST rearchitect. A Forms app and a J2EE app are very different, if you don't re-architect then you are re-implementing Forms in Java (in which case, why bother).
    If you go to http://otn.oracle.com/goto/formsmodernize there is information that we in Oracle see as the most likely approach to succeed - which is retain an investment in Forms while you build up skills/services/functionality in your new system
    I'd suggest spending a couple of hours reading this information and then if you have further questions you can come back to us.

    Grant

  • J2EE applications Vs. Oracle Forms server

    Hi guys,
    I have worked in the oracle forms server and building some J2EE applications.
    So what is making me confused is with is better to use? Oracle forms server OR J2EE applications?
    I have seen that most of the enterprise applications build on J2EE technology, building applications using Oracle Forms Developer or Oracle Designer Forms Generator is easer than using J2EE technology and as I know forms server is much faster than downloading html pages using J2EE
    The BIG question is “Why Oracle is pushing and supporting the J2EE more than the forms server”????????
    Please can any one answer this question, I want to posted to some decision makers in my company.
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards,
    Ibrahim Sawalha
    [email protected]

    Ibrahim,
    thanks for your question and lets see if I can help answer your points.
    "which is better to use" - well it depends! - If you have a team of PL/SQL developers who are comfortable in the relational world and are more focused on the business logic of the application rather than the implementation details, then Forms may be the tool which fits the developers' requirements.
    If you have a team of Java programmers and you want ability to build and tailor your application at every level - if you want flexibility on the UI (JSP/HTML, wireless, Swing etc) then J2EE and JDeveloper gives you those choices.
    "...[Forms/Designer]is easer than using J2EE" I think that this is true now but becoming less so. Because Forms is a "black box" in that it hide much of the implementation details, it is inherently easier because you are not looking at that implementation level.
    However, with Jdeveloper, you are seeing the introduction of more and more frameworks do much of the "common implementation" details for you..and so this becomes easier. Jdeveloper is also introducing a number of features which will make development more productive (e.g. WYSIWYG editors). This will bring it more in line with the Forms development experience.
    "Why Oracle is pushing and supporting the J2EE more than the forms server" - well, I guess this is a perception thing. Yes there is a huge push behind J2EE but equally there is a huge effort going into Forms as well (we have a US and EMEA wide Forms Upgrade workshop running at the moment, we have 7 Forms and Designer Papers at ODTUG this year (Jdeveloper has 8 - so its a pretty even split {and thats not including Reports}). Compare the Forms and JDeveloper forums on OTN and you will see both are very active (Forms has the most post of any forum).
    I personally believe that as J2EE is a newer technology there is more to talk about that an more estbalished tool like Forms.
    So I don't really see it as J2EE vs Forms Server. Its more a case of different technologies, different strengths and the decision on which you use will be based on questions about integration, users, application front end, development skills etc etc....and I would hope that the choice becomes clearer when you address each of these questions.
    I hope this helps and please post if you have any more questions.

    shikha...

    Hi Shika,
    Probably, the issue could be because of any one of the following.
    <br>
    <br>
    1. Check whether you have added $OARCLE_HOME\forms90\java\frmwebutil.jar in the default.env under $ORACLE_HOME\Forms90\server folder.
    <br>
    <br>
    2. Check whether you have added the virtual directory
    <virtual-directory virtual-path="/webutil" real-path="$OARCLE_HOME/forms90/webutil" />
    in the file orion-web.xml under $ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\DevSuite\application-deployments\forms\forms90web folder
    <b<i>Correctly</i></b>
    <br>
    <br>
    HTH.

    Regards,

  • WebUtil  - oracle.forms.webutil.ole.oleFunctions bean not found.

    All,
    We're using webutil 1.0.6 on forms 9.0.4. Stuck up with the following error at runtime 'oracle.forms.webutil.ole.oleFunctions bean not found.'.
    In metalink, we noticed that webutil 1.0.6 should't be used with 9.0.4 unless some modification made on PLL. Unfortunately in OTN we can't find webutil 1.0.5 source version.
    Anyone please tell us from where we can get WebUtil 1.0.5 source or how can we solve this problem.
    Thank you very much.
