Migrate/Convert DB from 8i to 9i

Hi Gurus,
I would like to know how a database can be migrated/converted from Oracle 8i to 9i. Whether export file created by 8i export utility can be used by 9i import utility. Pls. explain me the procedure. Thanks.
Farhad

Hi,
In the init.ora set O7_DICTIONARY_ACCESSIBILITY to TRUE and restart the database. Then recompile all the invalid
objects. It should succeed and everything should run fine.
Thanks,

  • Error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server

    Hello,
I am getting following error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server using SSMA.
I get Errors 1-3 while migrating procedures and error 4 while migrating a table.
1- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'SYSDATE' is not supported.
2- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'to_date(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
3- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
4- O2SS0486: <Primary key name> constraint is disabled in Oracle and cannot be converted because SQL Server does not support disabling of primary or unique constraint.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

The exact statement in oracle side which causing this error (O2SS0050:
Conversion of identifier 'to_date(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.) is below:
    dStartDate:= to_date(sStartDate,'MON-YYYY');
    Statement causing error O2SS0050:
Conversion of identifier 'regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported is below.
    nCount2:= length(regexp_replace(sDataRow,'[^,]'));
So there is no statement which is using to_date(VARCHAR2,
CHAR) and regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR) in as such. 'MON-YYYY'  and '[^,]'
are CHAR values hence SSMA is unable to convert it from varchar2 to char.
Regarding SYSDATE issue, you mean to put below code in target(SQL) side in SSMA ?
    dDate date := sysdate;
    Thanks.

  • Migrating Users & Data from a Powerbook G4 to a MBP

OK, I'm getting a refurb. MBP and I'm going to need to transfer over my stuff from the Powerbook G4 to the MBP. The thing is...both my 400 and 800 FW ports in the Powerbook have ceased to function, so Target Disk Mode will not work for me. I could use the Ethernet form of transfer to get everything over but that implies that the MBP will have to be up and running and have it's network settings all configured in order for it to be "seen" on the network. Is this the case? Or, upon startup of the MacBoook Pro, will I be prompted to migrate data & users via Ethernet?
In the past, I've been able to use Target Disk Mode and I'm familiar with that procedure, I just don't know what to expect via an Ethernet migration. Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • Migration of application from Oracle Express 6.3.4 to Essbase 9

I got a requirement to migrate an application from Oracle Express to Essbase. Can any one help me if there is any documentation for migration or else do I have to rebuild a new application in Essbase with the same functionality as in Oracle Express.
    Rgrds,
    G.K

As far as I am aware there is no migration tool to convert to essbase and you will have to build a new application in essbase.
On a side note this campaign from Oracle back in 1998 amuses me - http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=4VEEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA17&ots=Amg-YO3m5X&pg=PA17#v=onepage&q&f=false
The line "Oracle Express Server slaughtered Arbor Essbase in both load and calculation times and query times" is a classic.
I wonder if Oracle feel the same way now :)

  • Migrate Email folders from Mac to Windows

Is it possible to migrate my emails from outlook 2011 that is running in my mac os to outlook 2010 that i have recently installed in my new windows 7 dell laptop.
Is there any simple and effective solution available to deal with this migration?

If you have less emails you can create a Gmail IMAP account, Now drag and drop Outlook for MAC data into the IMAP account, open that IMAP account in Microsoft Outlook. It is a time consuming process and a bit dificult too.
The other option is to use some third party olm to pst conversion utility like Olm to Pst Converter Pro Conversion tool which converts .olm files to .pst format in a single go thus saving precious time of user.

  • Migrating to 10g from Oracle 7

    Hi all,
The company is planing to migrate to 10g from Oracle 7.
I have heard that it is impossible to migrate directly from 7 to 10g using dbua.
Is it possible using export/import. I have not worked on 7 or 10g.
Also how can we move from forms3 to forms 6i.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sanju

As for Forms, read the documentation and view the tutorials on
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html
(especially 'Upgrade character mode Forms to the Web')
    Also: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/264850.pdf
You will probably first have to upgrade to Forms 4.5, then to 6i.
Going from character mode to a graphical user interface is not so easy. You may consider a professional tool like the converter from Kumaran.

  • Migrate Album art from Windows player to iTunes?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times but....
Is there a way to migrate the artwork from Windows media player into iTunes?
It seems that media player keeps all the art within each album folder which means that I already have the art for albums that the great and mighty iTunes can't seem to find. And I have checked to confirm this - about 700 or so albums that I have art for in media player can't be found in iTunes. I thought that they all accessed the same CDDB info.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You only need to drag something onto iTunes in order to import it, however it will need to be in the correct format. If the files in your Windows player are in Windows format you will need to convert them before you can import them.

  • Can I migrate my photos from my iphone 6 to iphoto on my computer?

I read this on the Apple website:
Your photos and metadata from iPhoto will be migrated to Photos. Books, Journals and Slideshows will be converted to albums containing only photos. iPhoto for iOS is not supported on devices running iOS 8 or later.
I am especially troubled by the underlined statement. Can I migrate my photos from my iphone 6 to iphoto on my computer?

The key part of the Apple quote is …
Your photos and metadata from iPhoto will be migrated to Photos
Photos is the app in Yosemite that replaces iPhoto.
If iPhoto fails to work with iOS 8 try opening Image Capture on your Mac, that should at least allow you to import into a folder for dragging to iPhoto.
I don't have a device with iOS8 to test, so try iPhoto if you have it available - it may still work on Mavericks. iTunes may also still take photos from iPhoto & sync them to the device.

  • Converting account from personal to business

It seems that my own account as the Manager has been set up as a personal account, not a business account.
Is there a way for me to convert a personal account to a business account?
I obviously can't set up a new business account with the same account name, so the naming scheme I have been using for everyone is now ironically not going to work for me.
I either need to close the personal account (I see no way of doing that) and then re-create it as a business account, or I need to convert it from a personal account to a business account. Any suggestions?

    I second this...
As a small business i had my own skype account with a skype-in number and voicemail setup to ensure that i coudl take calls and be efficent no matter where i am.
However as my business is growing, i wanted to add in new people and manage my services centrally. Skype Manager seemed like the tool except, you cant convert/upgrade a personal account.
A quick chat with the LiveSupport told me that i would need to:
    - Re-Buy a new number (even though i have already paid for one)
    - Setup a new business account (loosing the name people have for me)
    - Add additional credit to the tool (which i already have)
So in effect i need to buy everything, again. On-top of that i would need to contact all my customers and such to advise them of a new name-change on skype and a phone number change. This just seems out-right mad to me and misses the point of supporting businesses, sadly not a tool for me and something i will be migrating away from very quickly.

  • Migration of data from Oracle to Sybase ASIQ

    Hello !
I want to know , if there is any way to migrate the database from oracle 8i to sybase ASIQ ( Adaptive Server IQ 12.4). The database has 14 tables in which some tables have more than 3 lakh records. I have tried to convert the tables into tab delimited text files ( by using ADO Explorer software) and then load data in ASIQ ( Adaptive Server IQ 12.4) from these flat files. The process is working fine with tables which have less data. But for large tables ( with 3 lakh records) the ADO explorer hangs in between conversion. Is there any tool in Oracle which can migrate data from tables to tab delimited text files ?
or is there any tool which can directly migrate data from oracle 8i to Sybase ASIQ directly ?

Can you use Sybase Component Integration Services (CIS). Can you create the Oracle database as a remote database and then do selects against the Oracle tables directly into the Sybase tables. I am not sure if this is available in IQ server. If not then if you have a regular Sybase server could you do it through there somehow and then move the database from Sybase to IQ.

  • I can't migrate iPhoto library from time machine

I have my iPhoto library backed up on time machine and want to restore it to a new mac mini, but every time I try, I create a new account and a blank photo library!
If I try to get to the folder library in Finder on my Mac Mini I don't have permission to access.
The time machine back-up is from a MBP, and I can access the library & folder from my MBP laptop. Is my only option to restore to MBP and then migrate from there? (I'd like to avoid doing this, because its a 60gb library and will end up taking a few days to migrate twice (once from TM to MBP and once from MBP to MM)

Recover the iphoto library to a different location eg, a USB drive.. since there could be issues with the new photo app.

I recently migrated my MacBook from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8, using the Snow Leopard CD I purchased from Apple. Since then I have noticed a strange ozone smell coming from the MacBook in the area where the hinges are to open and close the unit. I was told by Apple that it probably is not serious and is coming from the fans in the MacBook. It is true that the smell/odor is more intense when the fans are working. Apple said I should take the MacBook to an Apple Store to have the hardware checked out. Everything seems to be working correctly. I am backing up automatically wirelessly to a Time Capsule, which I had not done until recently, although I had purchased the Time Capsule in 2009. I have not noticed this odor before. Does anyone suspect something more serious that may be going on?

You may be smelling it because with the new OS the processor is having to work harder causing it to get hotter then it would with the other OS.  I can't say there is nothing wrong, but what could be happening is just that, it's getting hotter so the fan is spinning faster and moving more air so you are getting more of the smell then you would before.  I would still continue to back it up, and take it to the Apple Store at a Genius Bar and have them look at it to make sure.  Was the computer ever in a smoky environment??
