Migrate from apple aperture

Is it possible to easily migrate from Apple Aperture to Adobe Lightroom?
Last week we heard that Apple quits with Aperture, leaving a lot of professional photographers empty handed.
Could Adobe be so kind to help us out here?

  • Got the email from Apple Aperture compatible with future versions of iOS?  (Mac OS?)

Got the email from Apple about Aperture this morning.  They had a huge omission:  are they going to keep Aperture compatible with future iOS? If not, I want, at a minimum, a refund for what I paid for the app.

They had a huge omission:  are they going to keep Aperture compatible with future iOS?
There will be no further development of Aperture. That much should be clear from the announcement, that Aperture will no longer be sold at the AppStore.  You are lucky - you used the last chance to buy the best photos app  ever Apple created. The new Photos is not intended to be  used by professional photographers like Aperture was. And you will be able to use and enjoy it as long as you keep a compatible operating system on your Mac.

  • Migration from Apple iPhoto to Adobe Lightroom

    Dear all
    I have a MacBookPro and I run Apple OS X 10.6.3
I have many pictures already in my iPhoto but I bought DxO and found out that Apple's Aperture3 does not accept the RAW-DNG format. Instead of Aperture3 I would like now to buy Lightroom2, but I am apprehensive about problems in the migration.
Do you know of any glitches? Can you give me any advice?
How does Lightroom2 compare with Aperture3 apart from the price much more favourable to the latter?
Many thanks for any help from Apple users

    No problem:
    1. File -> Import Photos.
    2. Select source folder and check "include subfolders".
    3. Choose 'Add' instead of copy or move.
    4. Optional: Twiddle with the stuff in the right-hand panel of the import dialog box.
    5. Click the 'Import' button.
You can always use iPhoto to compare your edits against Lightroom, so there's hardly any reason to roll them up into tifs, but that's another option if you want to be able to do a before-Lr/after-Lr compare from within Lightroom. In which case consider auto-stacking based on zero-tolerance capture time - which will stack the iPhoto(tif) versions with the new Lr versions. I don't know if there's an auto-stack based on filename/extension, but if there is that may be even better. You may not even want them stacked - this is maybe getting a little too far ahead.....

  • After migrating from iPhoto: Aperture library 81GB and iPhoto Library 17GB

I Have ~10K images almost all .jpgs. I just completed the "rebuild from masters" command after experimenting with Aperture for a while. I was surprised to find that my Aperture Library was 81GB and my remaining iPhoto library was 17GB. First of all I selected "move" from the "rebuild from masters" command so I thought my iPhoto Library would just disappear. When I open iPhoto all my pictures are still there. So why the large library size difference?
    -thanks

How long since, you installed Aperture 3? You may need to leave the machine running for quite a while before things start to settle down. Sounds like you may be short of RAM and or a library with a lot of faces. Allan

  • Migrate from apple to windows

Hi all how to migrate my iTunes account from my mac to a windows pc ???

As long as the media folder is inside the main iTunes library folder you can simply copy the entire iTunes folder from one computer to the other, either over your network, or via an external drive.
If you've split out the media folder to another drive see Make a split library portable.

  • Pixma Pro 100 : Unable to print 13x19" from Apple Macbook Pro

I've got the latest drivers and firmware.
Primarily attempting to print from Apple Aperture; A3 and A3 borderless work fine, but neither use the available space on my 13x19" paper.
Any custom settings for 13x19" result in either A) 3x5 print on 13x19 paper, or B) out of paper alert (1006?).
I also tried printing from adobe photoshop elements 6; there was a "super B" paper size here, but again the prints either printed borderless 13x19" but with poor random cropping, or I got the no paper error, depending on settings. Same results when printing from Apple Preview.
So far the largest print size I've gotten successfully is 11.6x16.6" using A3 borderless.
How can I get a 13x19" print or largest size? Thanks

The fix for mine was to go into system preferences, printers & scanners, then remove all references to the Canon printer. This also removed the apple drivers.
Then, download all drivers from Canon's site to your desktop.
Then in the printers & faxes pane, click plus, and select the printer from there- you may need to select the drivers on your desktop. Somehow this forced install of the canon drivers over the apple drivers, which seem to get priority otherwise.
After doing this, the A3+ paper size appeared in my apps as an option for the Pixma pro 100, and I had the utilities tab appear for this printer in the control panel.
I called Canon tech support to figure this out, they were quite helpful.

  • Aperture crashes on start up - after migrating from time machine

Aperture has been running fine for ages, but at the suggestion of the apple store ,to assess a problem with the isight, I did a clean install of OSX leopard and migrated all the data from the time machine. Now Aperture will not open at all and Final cut express wants its serial number again.

  • Photos for OS X, migration from Aperture

i shouldn't have, but I have, migrated all my aperture photos into the new photos on OS X.  Because not all the metadata is present on some old pics, it's messed them all up! I need to update all the data in aperture when I have time, then import them all.
is there are way you can reverse the migration process, and start again from scratch?

Apparently, when you inittiate the Photos Import - the the NEW photos library  copies over the masters from  aperture and leaves Aperture with references to the new Library  ??
So how do we reverse this and reset the New photos ? .
Both libraries are sharing the same files by hard links. Hard links are different from aliases or symbolic links. Both libraries will work on its own, even if you delete the other library. That is why they are showing nearly the same file size in the Finder. You can delete one of the libraries and the other will continue to work.

  • Migrating from iPhoto to Aperture

My iPhoto library has 3,700 pictures, which causes the application to run slowly. Can Aperture do a better job of handling that many pictures? Also, should I import my pictures from iPhoto to Aperture, will the comments and titles move over too?
    Thanks!

  • Which is the best way to migrate from aperture to lightroom?

    Hello everybody,
I have been using the Aperture trial for some time and I found it interesting.
Unfortunately in the meanwhile Lion came out and I find it ugly. Although I do not want to discuss about Lion here I plan to move away from Apple as soon as my 2007 iMac stops working, so I moved to applications supported by other OSs (Preview->Acrobat reader, iWorks->MSOffice, Mail->Thunderbird and so on). I am also going to buy Lightroom, that will also work on my new Win7 laptop I had to buy for a new job.
My question is: is there a way to quickly migrate my Aperture library to Lightroom or should I reimport all the original photos into it?
    Thank you for your attention
    Stefano

I have upgraded Apple Aperture from version 2 to version 3 and I'm having a problem with the "Highlights and Shadows" adjustment. According to the user's manual, I should have access to an advanced disclosure triangle which would allow me to adjust mid contrast, colour, radius, high tonal width and low tonal width.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to access this advanced section, I'd be most grateful.

    Hi David-
The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

  • How do i migrate info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new macbook pro 13

What is best way to migrate all info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new 2.3 13" macbook pro Core i5?

It seems the best way is to use the "Set Up Assistant" on the first initial boot of your new machine with a  Firewire connection. It will prompt you for transfering from your old Mac.
I've never had an issue with this method.

I recently migrated my MacBook from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8, using the Snow Leopard CD I purchased from Apple. Since then I have noticed a strange ozone smell coming from the MacBook in the area where the hinges are to open and close the unit. I was told by Apple that it probably is not serious and is coming from the fans in the MacBook. It is true that the smell/odor is more intense when the fans are working. Apple said I should take the MacBook to an Apple Store to have the hardware checked out. Everything seems to be working correctly. I am backing up automatically wirelessly to a Time Capsule, which I had not done until recently, although I had purchased the Time Capsule in 2009. I have not noticed this odor before. Does anyone suspect something more serious that may be going on?

You may be smelling it because with the new OS the processor is having to work harder causing it to get hotter then it would with the other OS.  I can't say there is nothing wrong, but what could be happening is just that, it's getting hotter so the fan is spinning faster and moving more air so you are getting more of the smell then you would before.  I would still continue to back it up, and take it to the Apple Store at a Genius Bar and have them look at it to make sure.  Was the computer ever in a smoky environment??

  • HT4889 Am I wrong or does Migration Assistant not work in Mountain Lion (10.8.2) when migrating from a PowerPC running Tiger (10.4.11)? Apple really needs to get on the ball or face losing people buying their new desktop products.

The title alone speaks to my frustration about this issue.
Used the process that was recommended by Apple to migrate from my "Lampshade" iMac (PPC running 10.4.11) to the new iMac (Intel running 10.8.2) and I got bupkiss...
Just a spinning wheel (not beachball) and no drive recognized using Migration Assistant for both nor when using Target Mode on the iMac running 10.4.11 and Migration Assistant on the iMac running 10.8.2. Which is ironic, or more accurately oxymoronic, since the iMac in Target Mode (10.4.11) is recognized on the desktop of the iMac running 10.8.2 but not in the Migration Assistant. And before you can misdiagnose..it is not the Thunderbolt connection since I have the Apple recommended Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter and also used the Firewire 400 to 800 cable to expedite the transfer.
    On a personal note...
I'm not bashing Apple for this...they are "head and shoulders" above the competition in what they do but I've been burned a few times so I feel I can share a small bit of loyal customer advice...I understand your iOS and mobile products hold huge sway in company focus and market-share but I find it a tad unwise to slack on the desktop applications. I don't recall any app for the iPhone/iPad family being made on the iPhone/iPad...only from desktop applications if I recall correctly. And how can I clearly "Move my Mac even further ahead"  as your marketing states when I can't even migrate my files from my old Mac to my new one in a simple fashion as per your instructions?
I thank anyone in advance with an answer or even a workaround for this issue and please have a great day.

Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger to OS X Lion
Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 computers to OS X Lion over your Wi-Fi or a wired network is not supported. However, if both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port, you can use Target Disk Mode to transfer your data:
Verify that both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port. Note that different model Macs may have different FireWire connectors, which will require an appropriate cable, such as FireWire 400 to FireWire 800.
On the Mac you want to transfer data from, Restart, and immediately hold the T key.
Wait for the FireWire logo to appear on the screen.  If it does not, restart and try again.
Connect both Macs via the FireWire cable.
On the Mac you want to transfer data to, Open the Migration Assistant application.
Select the option "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup, or other disk" and click Continue.

EDIT: Actually I realize you did follow these directions and if your drive is seen on the new Mac it should work. You're entitled to free Apple support with the new purchase, I'd give them a call.
