Migrate from UAT database to Production database

Hi all,
I need to set up my production database based on the UAT database.I would like to re-generate all my objects script and grant scripts from UAT so that there will not be any discripency. I can't go for full db export due to some apps constraints.I'm planing to generate grant scripts from dba_tab_privs for each role and generate public synonym script from dba_objects for each user.Object inventory can be taken from dba_objects for each user. FK and PK constraints are another worry.
Am I on a right path?? My worry is that, I may miss out something. Can anyone guide me?

I think Bhandari's advice is good as long your UAT and PRODUCTION on the same OSWhat about the data? UAT is going to full of rubbish data that nobody would want in a production system. But you wouldn't want to zap it from UAT because you'll need it for the next release (patch, enhancement, whatever). So you copy it all over into Production and then remove everything that's not supposed to be there? Starting a release by trashing the data in production doesn't sound very clever to me. Furthermore it's a complete non-starter for managing an incremental release.
Using Import/Export isn't much better. Neither is generating scripts from the UAT data dictionary. Forget about Release 1.0! Think about how you're going to manage 1.1!
The simplest, the least effort, the most robust approach is to create Production from the scripts that were used to build UAT. Anything else is more complicated, more work, less reliable. The only reasons why anybody might need to take some other approach are because they didn't build UAT entirely with scripts or because they didn't subject those scripts to source control. And that's what I mean by bad processes.
LALEAGTFOTP!
Cheers, APC

    Hi Folks,
Does anyone of you did a migration from redbrick database to oracle 10g please help me out with the steps to do that? I tried to search for a document with no luck.
Appriciate if you could point me to a doc or a white paper that talks about the migration.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Migrating from Test Database to Production Database

    Hi,
I have a situation where I created my Portal Pages on test database and now, I want to move everything from test database to my production database. The portal version on both the sites is same (3.0.9.8). I have content areas and applications in my existing test site. What is the best and easiest way to achieve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Jatinder

    Hi,
the easiest way is to make an export of the portal schema en import it into you're production database.

  • How to migrate from existing Database Usermanagement to Active Directory?

    Hello experts,
we are running a portal with more than 2000 users. So far our user management is done by the portal´s own identity management with the database as data source.
However for many reasons instead of the database we would like to use an existing company´s Active Directory (=AD) as a data source for identity management. That means that we would like only to use the AD-users and AD-groups in the portal.
All users who are in the portal´s database now you can find also in the existing company´s Active Directory. Luckily the users have the same ID both in the database and in the AD.
We know that the migration form the database to AD is a big issue since many portal objects depend on the existing structures. However because the IDs of users are identical in both systems we hope to finde a way to "override" the existing usermanagement data with the AD data without loosing the existing settings (e.g. KM-Permissions, user profiles etc.).
Generally I am asking you if you have had already experience with changing the user management´s datasource of an already "living" portal (several 1000 users) to Active Directory User Managent.
    What problems can occour?
Which modifications need to be done?
Which portal´s objects are affected by the migration?
Is a migration possible at all?
I will appreciate all suggestions, remarks, ideas.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thomas

    Hello experts,
the current permissions in the KM-Objects are based on both groups and users from database.
Because it is not possible to modify the Group´s Display Name in the portal´s database we would also like to use LDAP-Groups in the portal: All users and groups in the portal shall be managed by Active Directory in future.
In the Active Directory it is possible to modify the Display Name of groups. This is a necessary feature because of reorganisations of departments in our company which occur from time to time.
Creating new groups with the new department names is not an option because one has to assign all department members to the new group again. Otherwise one need to asign the new group to the ACLs of all KM objects in question. This is a too big deal.
However, thank you for that hint Michael.
    Any other experiences?
I will appreciate any ideas, foreseen problems.

  • Migrating from sql2000 database to Oracle 9i

I have Oracle 9i running on Win2000 ...and I have installed Oracle Migration
    Workbench on same machine.
On other machine I have sql2000 SERVER and I have 5 databases running there.
As test migration now I want to migrate to Oracle 9i ..
sql server databse no 1..having 7 tables.
I have created source object model...and then created oracle object model in migration workbench
When migrating to oracle database I noticed the message that ....
tables,,,tablespaces need to be created for efficient migration database..
Means do i need to create all the tables present in sql server database no-1
    in Oracle and then migrate...
can anyone please do give me the details on this...
    Thanks & Regards

Im afraid the OMWB does not perform MS Project migrations to Oracle.

  • Critical Q:Moving whole portal from UAT enviroment to PRODUCTION enviroment

    Greeting all,
after few months of upgrade implementation from DEV > TRN > UAT
now, we are planning to move everything to PROduction enviroment.
But i have a serious concern. This is not a fresh implementation but an upgrade project (which mean there are lots of production data, settings in production environment)
What i did so far,all the clean up, configuration of Content references, permission list, role tied with employee in UAT enviroment (it took me weeks).
And i am very sure that, there are
    - few NEW roles should be tie to certain user moving forward,
    - content references are created and deleted.
    - certain permission list are dropped an created and tie to roles
    - user will hold some new roles
So far, the changes above are done in UAT enviroment, question is, how can i move ALL mentioned above to Production enviroment?
I couldn't spend another weeks to do this dirty job manually.
but if i am using app designer to dump ALL content references, menus, permission list, roles, will it create any issue? coz it's production enviroment (not a fresh implementation), overwrite of the production data is secure enough? coz i cant afford to lost the production data
anyone here did this procedure before? or any helpful resource available?
    Thanks for clarify me

    yea, thanks for the reply
But one thing bugging me is, to move the user roles
i would like to simulate the senario
    UAT env:
    number of emp : 1000
emplid : "123" is holding role "roleA", "roleB", "roleC"
    But in PROduction env:
number of emp : 1200 (200 new emp)
emplid : "123" is holding role "roleA", "roleB", "roleX"
how am i going to move this from UAT > PRO?
almost 2 weeks spent in cleaning up user's permission list, role in UAT env.
So my question is, how can i move the senario above from UAT > PRO?
    another senario
i have remove, create, move many content references in UAT, lots of remodeling of content references, and permission lists are create, drop
    how can i handle that?
    Thanks
P.S. For moving pages, component, fields i am ok with it

  • Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hello Every body,
Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
    Here is the current platform:
    OS Win 2008 64 bit
    JDK 1.4.2
    JBoss 3.2.5
    EJB 2.1
My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Zeeshan Qureshi

In general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
    1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
    2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
    3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
    4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
    5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
    6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
    7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
    Hope this helps..

    Prakash

  • MIgration from MYSQL database to Oracle database

    HI,
Can you pls let me know how can we do this using Oracle SQL Developer.
In Mysql database we are having one table which is not normalized and corresponding to it we have created normalized tables in oracle database.
    so scenario is like this
EMP table in MYSQL database ----------- need to migrate to----> Employee table
    Dept table.
These tables are having some extra columns also which are not there in EMP table in MYSQL database.
SO we want to fill some default values for the new columns while doing the migration.
Can you pls let me know if this is achievable through SQL Developer and how?

Sorry, you'd have to do this in 2 steps:
    1. Migrate the tables as they are.
    2. Insert the rows from the migrated tables into the new ones.
    Have fun,
    K.

  • Migrating from Local Database to OpenDirectory, and Migrating IMAP Boxes

I have a Xserve G5 running 10.4.11 and using a local (non shared) directory with all of my users on it. I'm planning to install a new Xserve (10.5.2) to use as a Fileserver and Filemaker Server, essentialy leaving the mail service to the G5. However, i want to use the OpenDirectory on the 10.5 server in order to maintain only one user database. I'Ve tested out the functionnalities and it looks like that there is no problems using the 10.5 OD with my 10.4 server, however, since 90% of my users are using IMAP mailboxes, i cannot migrate the database to the new users
    Example:
On the local directory of the 10.4 server, i have a user called Wiggum using IMAP mailbox, working fine. I tell my 10.4 to use the OD on the 10.5 server (user Wiggum already configured over there with the same settings, passwords) and when i remove the user from the local directory, leaving only the OD, the user is working OK, mail is working fine but i loose all contents of my IMAP box, i get only the new mails.
Is there a way to migrate the IMAP boxes from the users on the local directory when i migrate them to the new OD.

I would think the first shortname is different in OD vs. the local user. Thus, creating a second mailbox and this is why you see only new incoming mail.
Check if you have "duplicate" mailboxes. If yes, you could copy mail from one to the other and reconstruct the mail database.

PERL can access both DBs simultaneously.
so all you have to do is write some custom code to SELECT from DBASE DB & INSERT into Oracle DB

In simple terms... here we go
    Before BO acquisition by SAP,
SAP BI :  SAP BW ( for all ETL tasks) + BEX Query ( For Reporting purpose )
    After BO acquisition :
SAP BI : SAP BW  ( for al ETL tasks ) + BEX Query + Business Objects
Now SAP is trying to use BO as reporting solution for all SAP BI projects.

If Access2000 allows you save the database as an access97 database then you can use the Oracle Migration Workbench to do the conversion. Sorry, Im not the Access expert so I can't say for sure whether the save as 97 option is shipped with 2000. I'll look into it and post a definitive answer tomorrow.

The biggest supported jump you can do is to 9.2.
