Migrate Sybase (HP-UX) to Oracle8 on Sun Solaris

How can I migrate the whole Sybase database running on HP-UX to Oracle8 run on SUN Solaris (As the Migration Workbench dosen't work)?
Thanks!
null

bearbb,
(As the Migration Workbench dosen't work)Please be more specific.
The latest Oracle Migration Workbench 1.2.5.0.0 runing on windows can migrate HP-UX Sybase to Oracle8 on Sun. It connects to Sybase using ODBC, and to Oracle on Sun using oracle sqlnet.
Workbench 1.2.2.0.0 on Solaris is not as good as workbench 1.2.5.0.0 on windows.
If you have specific additional problems email [email protected]

    Hi,
    Could anyone help me out with the setup for Migration workbench(configurations) and procedures for migration.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
    The User's Guide and Installation Guide located on OTN will provide you with a good overview of the migration process and setup of the Oracle Migration Workbench. http://otn.oracle.com/docs/tech/migration/workbench/content.html
    As stated in another reply, you can use the Migration Workbench on a Microsoft Windows platform to migrate a third-party database on another platform such as HP or Solaris, providing you can connect to that database over the network from the Windows machine.
    Regards,
    Blair.

  • Migration of oracle8i (Sun Solaris) to oracle10g (HP-UX).

    Hello,
    I just did a migration of oracle8i (Sun Solaris) to oracle10g (HP-UX).
    The problem is that the roles given in 8i are not reflected in 10g.
    e.g: in 8i user x has roles 1, 2, 3
    The same user x in 10g has roles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
    The roles are not DB roles (e.g dba, connect, resource, etc) but user defined roles.
    Thank you,
    Dirish

    1. How did you migrate ?
    2. What are the roles 1,2,3,4,5... ?
    3. What release is your 8i ?
    4. What release is your 10g ?
    But what is your question ? Since we have no clue at all of what you did, you have no chance to get proper help.
    Nicolas.

    Whats in the error.log of the migration workbench. This should work fine.....

  • Crossplatform Migration 8.1.7.4 db on TRU64 to SUN Solaris PW850.

    Hi,
    I'm performing a migration study of a Oracle 8.1.7.4 database ( ODS Warehouse ) across different OS platforms.
    I'm trying to determine which method is the most suitable to migrate/transfer this database from Tru64 over to a Sun Solaris 10 Os.
    Since it is a database used for datawarehousing, I don't have to mention that it's hugh. In total approx. 2,5 Terra database tablespace size and a additional 440 Gigabytes of files on the filesystem ( Datafiles, Sqlldr ctl files, ksh scripts etc ... )
    Since it's a cross platform migration and the database is a version 8i, the methods to perform the migration are limited.
    1. Traditional Export / Import.
    2. Transportable Tablespaces
    3. Datapump.
    Method 1 and 2 can be excluded since the traditional export/import aren't suited to migrate this kind of volumes. Datapump is excluded too since the source database is a 8i database. In order to use datapump I would need to upgrade it to 10g, but in order to have a fallback scenario, the client prefers not to upgrade/touch the original databases.
    This leaves, the method of Transportable tablespaces in combination with RMAN to convert the datafiles from Tru64 to Solaris 10 as sole option.
    Another option is to restore the 8i database on another Tru64 machine, upgrade it on this new machine to 10g and then use Datapump to migrate it, to the Solaris platform. But this would require two instead of one migration. To my point of view overhead.
    Does anybody have a experience with transportable tablespaces in combination with RMAN converts.
    Where can I find any references/indications concerning performance ... because a additional restriction that we have to cope with is, that we only have a window of 15 hours to complete the migration, since it is a 24/7 database for a mobile phone / telecom company.
    I know that this highly depending on the type of machine, RAM, CPU's, network ( Hyperfabric lines ), bandwidth ... etc
    Any reference is welcome ... or if someone can come up with another method or idea ? Maybe transportable tablespace isn't suited at all !
    Thanks in advance
    Alain

    Yes, it would be a good idea first migrate to 10g Rel.2 because 10g Rel.2 has new feature called cross platform database convert using RMAN. This would be an ideal idea.
    If you reply on export and import, it would take days to finish.

  • Migrate Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Sun solaris to RHE Linux 32 bit.

    We are migrating the Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Solaris two node to Linux two node including the database Oracle 10.2.04 64 bit.
    Since the applications only support 32 bit we are not able to store CM tier in a 64 bit Linux so with this considerations we are going with the below plan.
    1. Install RHEL 5 as a 32 bit for two nodes ( One for DB/CM and FORMS/WEB)
    2. Migrate the applications and DB from Solaris to Linux as the same node configuration that is
    Node A:
    Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 64 bit ( SUN oS 10 64bit) -> Oracle 10.2.0.5 32bit (RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Oracle Apps CM 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10 64bit) -> Oracle apps CM 32 bit(RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Node B:
    Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms (sun OS 10) -> Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms ( RHEL 5 32bit)
    Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10) -> Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 ( RHEL 5 32 bit).
    Question : 1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migration
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux

    Hi,
    1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migrationWhy would you downgrade the db from 64 bit to 32 bit. As 32 Bit has lot of memory limitations.
    You could keep the database on 64 bit for linux too.
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux Please see

  • Migrating Sybase code to Oracle 11g

    Hi All,
    We have to migrate Sybase code to Oracle 11g.
    When we are doing a SELECT .. INTO in Sybase , even if the query is returning more than 1 row , sybase selects 1 of the rows and populates the variables.
    But while migrating this code to oracle, we are getting TOO_MANY_ROWS Exception.
    We need to migrate the code from SYBASE to ORACLE without disturbing the logic.
    Can someone please tell me the logic applied by SYBASE to pick up the record?
    And if someone has faced this issue, then what can be done to resolve this.
    Regards,
    Riddhisha Khamesra

    The result 3 is the last entered record (not the amount of records..).
    So the first approach to write a dummy procedure that will select all records in Oracle like:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE last_record
    v_arg1 OUT NUMBER
    AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT col1
    INTO v_arg1
    FROM tt_tmp ;
    END;
    and hopefully returns only the last record will fail with:
    SQL> variable outvar number
    SQL> exec last_record (:outvar)
    BEGIN last_record (:outvar); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows
    ORA-06512: at "SYSTEM.LAST_RECORD", line 9
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    One possible approach to get the last (and only the last) record that was entered into the table is to use rownum:
    The select might look like "select col1 from (select col1, rownum from tt_tmp order by rownum desc) where rownum=1;"
    So the procedure can be coded as:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE last_record
    v_arg1 OUT NUMBER
    AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT col1
    INTO v_arg1
    from (select col1, rownum from tt_tmp order by rownum desc) where rownum=1;
    END;
    Now calling it in SQL*Plus:
    SQL> variable outvar number
    SQL> exec last_record (:outvar)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> print :outvar
    OUTVAR
    7
    The value 7 is the last record I've inserted into my tt_tmp table:
    SQL> select * from tt_tmp;
    COL1 COL2
    1 1
    2 2
    8 8
    7 7

  • How to migrate sybase esql files(.cp files) to oracle pro*c files(.pc files

    I need to migrate sybase esql files(.cp files, c file with sybase embedded sql) to Oracle pro*c files (.pc files, c file with oracle embedded sql) , could anyone let me know whether there are any tools for this or the process how to migrate.
    Thanks in advance.

    I don't think there are any commercially available tools that can do this particular type of conversion. Your best bet is to re-write the app or try something like this: http://linux.windows9download.net/go/3-153300-0-download.html (open ESQL) that supports multiple databases. I don't know how good it is or if it will work with latest versions of Oracle so no guarantees. Our old migration workbench used to convert the Informix eSQL C programs to Pro*C but no Sybase esql c.

  • Migrating Sybase Anywhere 8.0 to Oracle 10g

    I was asking Oracle help to develop a plugin whereby my company could use it as a tool to help us to migrate to Oracle 10g from Sybase Anywhere 8.0.
    However I was refer to here by someone from Oracle.
    Anyone have experience on this?
    Thanks
    Steven

    Steven,
    You could try SQL Developer Migration Workbench
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
    Oracle Migration Workbench
    The Oracle Migration Workbench is a tool that simplifies the process of migrating Sybase, Informix, and DB2 databases to the Oracle platform (Oracle9i and Oracle10g)*. The Oracle Migration Workbench migrates the entire database schema, including triggers and stored procedures, in an integrated, environment

  • Migrate portal 306 (Windows NT) to portal 308 (Sun Solaris)

    is it possible to migrate portal 306 on Windows NT to portal 308 on Sun Solaris.
    the portal on Windows NT has only external portlets integrated into it. is it possible to migrate ...?
    any answers would be great help.
    thanx a bunch.
    null

    Yes, it is possible to migrate up to the current release on Solaris, but it's not easy. First, upgrade from 3.0.6 to 3.0.8 on the NT box. Then, export everything from NT to Solaris (import/export only works across the same Portal release). Check out the Export/Import paper here on OTN for more info.
    You might find it quicker to manually recreate everything within the new portal instance on Solaris.
    Best,

  • Where to download the oracle8i for sun x86

    hi,
    where to download the oracle8i for sun x86?
    thanks

    Hi Antra,
    There are no bootable images on CCO to download, on CCO you will just find the upgrade like in this:
    http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282886765&flowid=37342&softwareid=282886751&release=8.5%285%29&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
    but if you are looking for media for 8.5 , you should be able to place a order using the PUT tool and if still issues kindly open an TAC case and someone will help you for the same.

  • How to upgrade oracle 32 to 64 bit on sun solaris x86 64 bit OS?

    Hi,
    I want to upgrade/convert 32 bit Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 to 64 bit database. Existing 32 bit database is RAC and it is running on Sun Solaris X86 64 bit OS.
    First, I want to know is it possible?
    If yes, then what are the exact steps?

    Hi,
    Such a migration can be done, just follow the steps in Metalink note 62290.1
    It is important to remember that 64-bit database requires more shared pool memory so you should increase your shared pool size.
