Migrating a 1.3.2 application to 6.0

Is it possible to migrate an application from a designer 1.3.2 repository to a 6.0 repostitory. If so, how is it done?

Hi,
Try to get your hands on the Installation guide for Designer 2.1.2, there is a section there for upgrading from 1.3.2. I am not 100% sure but the architecture for 2.1.2 and 6.0 is almost the same, in fact, I was able to migrate from 2.1.2 straight to 6i without a hitch. There shouldn't be any more problems.
Cheers

    Just for your information:
Migrating JHeadstart 10.1.2 Application to 10.1.3.3.0, JHS version 10.1.3.2.52
    didn't work.
I used the release notes but got stuck at step no. five.
The function "Edit Application Definition" was greyed out.
Actually, it did work in JDev10.1.3.0.4 Service Update 5, JHS version 10.1.3.0.97

    Lebbol,
When the function is greyed out, this typically means that you have to re-enale JHeadstart on the ViewController project first.

  • Migrating a Forms 6i custom application to Oracle Apps R12 custom bolt on

    Hi,
I need to migrate an oracle forms custom application built in 6i to sit within oracle apps R12 (Forms 10g) and use Oracle Apps user authentication and session. It could become a custom bolt on to Oracle Apps and might be accessed from a custom responsibility in oracle applications.
    a) How easy/difficult is this?
    b) What are the challenges or things to look for to do this migration?

I Have already read the document

The doc says in place OS upgrades are not supported....
    So my question is...
While keeping the production, how can i migrate using the same servers. Coz my company does not want to buy new servers..
Please suggest.Complete all the steps in the doc for Rapid Clone and other steps, then take a backup of the files after you run preclone and create a trace file for the database. Once you have the backup ready, install a 64-bit version of the OS and install 11gR2 software and restore the files from the backup and complete the migration.

    Hi Ajay,
If  the configtool is showing the old information of instances , it has got two things
    1.  JMT phase of your migration has not been performed correctly.
    2. If you are using the same hostname , SID , instance name , then it will calculate the same instance number.
In JMT  phase it  should delete all the information of dialog instance  and calculated the new instance id
on the basis of box number calculated from the file cluster_id_switch.properties while migrating the CI.
checked the JMT folder inside sapinst_dir.
Checked the below parameter in cluster_id_switch.properties
    src.ci.sid=
    src.ci.instance.number=
    src.ci.instance.name=
    src.ci.host=
Checked the logs for java migration tool phase and java configuration parameter phase. Also do check the box number of the system. If the box number is not correct as per your input then you will not able to patch your system further.
Now in second case, If you are keeping the same hostname , instance name and SID , then it will calculate the same instance id so you don't need to worry in this case.

    Hi Pratik,
Would suggest you to create a "*wlfullclient.jar*" by going through the below link and add it in your weblogic workshop and then try to deploy your application. Also it is always recommended that you should compile the old application again with the new JDK version your new weblogic sever is using.
    Tpoic:*Creating a wlfullclient.jar for JDK 1.6 client applications*

    Hope this would help you.

  • HT4889 Will migration assistant/setup assistant transfer applications like Photoshop, MS Office, etc.?

I'm going to be moving from one MacBook Pro to a newer one.  My current MBP has the MS Office suite installed, plus Photoshop and Lightroom.  Will setup assistant/migration assistant transfer those applications, or do I need to install them on the new machine myself?

It should, if there is nothing the matter with the hardware of the machine.   Backup your data as a clone just in case. It is always helpful to have more hard disk space in the destination than the origin.

  • SQL pricing for Migrating an existing multi-tenant application

We have a client with an ~10 year old multi-tenant application running on a traditional dedicated hosting environment.  The client is interested in migrating to Azure but only if they can benefit from PAAS features (managed backups, snapshots, scaling,
    etc).
Their application automatically creates a new SQL database with each new customer signup.  As such, there are 886 databases which would need to be moved.  The total size on disk of all DBs together is only 3.82 GB.  Only 3 DBs are more than
100 MB.  862 of the DBs are less than 10MB each (794 of those are less than 5MB).
The way I read Azure pricing, each of these 883 DBs less than 100 GB would cost $5/month.  The only other alternative is to get a VM with SQL server on it -- but I can't see the advantage of that vs. the dedicated host they are already using.
Is there any other alternative to consider when contemplating an application made up of many small databases?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Jason

    Hi,
If you have existing applications or workloads you simply want to grab and move to the cloud, SQL Server in a Virtual Machine is the easiest path to realize the benefits of the cloud. If you are looking to innovate and build new relational applications running
in the cloud or extend parts of on-premises applications into the cloud, SQL Database is the best long-term solution.
In your scenario, if use azure SQL, you must pay for each database per month, refer to
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/sql-database/for more information about SQL Azure, cost too much.
About use SQL VM, I suggest you read the following article.

    Hi,
Assuming the version of essbase is the same,
    1. Export data (level zero or all) from each app
    2. Create apps and databases in new environment
    3. Replace otl file, calc scripts etc with ones from old environment
    4. Import data
    5. Calc (if level zero data loaded)
Ensure cache settings are the same on each db compared with the old environment.

  • Migration HTMLDB 1.6 to Application Express 2.0

    Hi,
    we have a HTMLDB 1.6 on a Database 9i (9.2.0.6).
Can we migrate on Application Express 2.0?
Are there any known problems? What do we have to do?
    Thanks in advance
    Ulrike

Yes, this is 100% possible and supported. All you will need to do is install ApEx 2.0 and make some small changes to your HTTP server.
The detailed steps required and much more is documented in the ApEx 2.0 User Manuals.

  • Migrating to Linux with Oraacle Application release 11i

    Hi There!
I would appreciate your expert advice on migration of Oracle EBS 11i from Solaris to Linux.
We are following Oracle Metalink Doc id 230627.1 & 331221.1 (db 10gR1)
To give a brief picture on the environment, we have 4 servers, PRODUCTION on 2 servers (2 nodes, 1 db, 1 application), TEST on 3rd server and 4th one will act as target for migrating production multi node to single node (Solaris to Linux).
We have planned to make a fresh clone from production to test, it will be multi node to single node clone, then from the cloned test will migrate to Linux on new server (4th server) which will be a single node configuration.
I would like to have advice on the last stage of this process, since the final goal is to migrate the production from Solaris to Linux and we are using cloned instance on TEST for testing the whole process, will it be appropriate to export just the production database to the 4th server using datapump (while importing TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION = TRUNCATE) once the TEST instance is successful migrated to the 4th server? Rather than repeating the whole process again from PRODCUTION to the 4th server.
My point here is since this whole process of migrating the TEST to the 4th server might take a weeks time, the difference between the newly migrated 4th instance and the PRODUCTION will be a weeks data (since the 4th server is migrated from TEST which in turn is a clone of PRODUCTION), so by using datapump we will try to import up to date data from the production to the 4th server, this will save time and efforts by not repeating the whole process from PRODUCTION to the 4th server again. Or is there any better way of achieving this?
    Regards.
    AK.

    What exactly is not supported?
i.) The parameter TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION = TRUNCATE while importing from a full export 'or' This option.
Please correct me if I have understood it wrong, do we still have to migrate the application, since the application is already migrated from TEST instance to the 4th server (the TEST instance happens to be a clone of the PRODUCTION). The only difference we have here is the data that to a week’s data ie the data generated on PRODUCTION instance since it was cloned to TEST. So will it be necessary to do the process all over again. For the application tier node, the simple answer is no (as long as no changes have been done at the application tier node, i.e. applied patches, created new custom forms/reports, ..etc).
If we are importing data into the migrated 4th server from PRODUCTION's full export file, how will DATAPUMP react when it come across already existing database with the same tables, because at this stage i will not be creating the database all over again, since it is already existing when we migrated the db and application from TEST to 4th server (according to the doc). One extra step i will perform in this approach, after importing the DB I will run post clone script on DB just to update tables with node information. The target instance should be clean when you migrate the database tier node, and this explains why the option of using the import parameter is not supported.
As you mentioned above, please log a SR and update this post when you hear back from the Oracle support.
    Thanks,

  • Macbook Migration Issues - Multiple Accounts and Applications Not Opening

    Hello,
I used Migration Assistant via Ethernet cable to Migrate from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro and have encountered a few issues which are outlined in parts below. I followed the setup and migration steps from starting up me new computer for the first time
    Firstly my notebooks:-
Old Computer - MacBook5,1, (2008 Aluminium case) running Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Lepard)
New Computer -MacBook Pro ( mid 1012)  running Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Lion)
    Issues:-
    1. User Acounts:
I now have 2 accounts on my new MacBook Pro. (I only want one). Some application were transferred to the first account, and the second account all files and applications were transferred. How do i get to have just one account, the one from my old computer?
    2. Applications:
Office for Mac 2008, These are present in my new MacBook Pro under the 2nd account along with all my document files. Yet when i try to open a File or one of the Office apllication such as Entourage, Word or Excel, Microsoft Setup Assistant launches. It asks to if I want complete a survey,  the next step is "Getting Started" and it asks to "register" or just click Finish. Clicking Finish simply closes the Setup  assistant. Clicking Register takes me to the Office Mac website where is says " Registration no Longer required" Either way i can not open any of these programes.
Other programes such as photoshop ask me to install Java Runtime, others require me to re regisiter with product key i no longer have, and some begin to open and close in a fraction of a second.
What Steps do i need to take to make this work smoothly?
    Thanks in Advance.

When I went to the 2012 MBP this is what I did for multiple accounts.  I tried Migration, several errors.  so I:
    1.  I installed from scratch. Creating my user names, ie user 1 and user 2.
    2.  After install was complete I ran updates since there are already updates to the 2012 machine.
    3.  I used time machine to move my work files, music etc over to each user.
    4.  I then installed the programs again.
I know this is a long process but I have not had any issues.  For Office 2008 I would recommend going to 2010.  I have no issues with it doing the above steps. MS really doesn't support 2008 with Lion so that is one of the bigger issues.  Try MS knowledge base for other people who have issues with Office 2008..

    Raymond,
I am currently trying to migrate designer 2.1.2 on Oracle database 8.0.5 to
designer 6i on Oracle database 8.1.7 with headstart 2.1.2 and I am having great difficulties.
I understand that I need to apply patch 10,11,12, and 13 on headstart 2.1.2 to make it compatible with designer 6i.
I am just uncertain about the order of installations I need to take for a successful migration.
Can someone kindly help me with the following issues?:
    1. Should I apply patch 10,11,and 12 on the current designer 2.1.2 repository before migrating it to designer 6i.
Yes. And you will apply patch 13 after the migration to designer 6i.
    2. Do I need to run headstart server side installation for the migration. If so, should I run it before the designer repository migration (i.e just after I install the new designer 6i repository) or should I run it after the migration.
You do need to migrate the server side as well. You can do the client side install of patch 10, 11 and 12, and then do the server side migration. Then, upgrade to Designer 6i. Patch 13 is applied by importing a dump file into Designer 6i and then following the instructions to download the new sources and apply the server side changes.
    3. My understanding is that headstart uses a set headstart specific ofgtel,ofgnavl,..libraries from headstart home/hst/admin
However I am unable to find those in the folder, is there a patch or download side for it?
With Patch 13, we supplied copies of a number of the ofg libraries with bug fixes and workarounds for problems discovered in Designer 6i release 1. However, if you are up to date on Designer 6i, all of those issues have been resolved, so you can just use the regular libraries supplied by Designer.

  • Migrating/Deploying New Versions of Applications

I have an application that has been 'published' i.e the URL released to users. We have a single DB instance (with apex) and our application is a very simple collection of pages of reports of data from views in the database for developers on the project to view. I have two workspaces - one for developing the app, the other for 'Run Only' published apps.
I have a few questions regarding deployment of Apex apps.
    1. Is there no way to maintain these two copies of the application (bear in mind they are in defferent workspaces) without having two different Application IDs? My problem with this is that migration from one workspace to the other is now a nightmare as the admin/build manager has to know the Id of the app in dev and the Id of the App in the published workspace as they appear to require different IDs? I need to work on new changes separately while users use the current pages.
    2. Once an app is published, how can I migrate changes to it when I need to? If I import the file definition, it insists on a new applicationID. As the AppID is part of the URL this is not practical in the real world - users cannot be expected to change the URL each time a release is implemented.
Does anyone have any ideas on managing build and migration of Apex apps? In usual business system, this sort of process won't work. Migration and Deployment must be automated and fool proof - often there may be 3 or 4 different test environments to go through before release (and this doesn't mean different db instances necessarily - it could mean different schemas for each test env). Given one Apex install per DB, this is really very messy and not maintainable, even for my tiny one env setup. Any advice or ideas?

Why dont you use the parameter :APP_ID in the URLs? With this parameter you can use different AppIDs in booth workspaces.

  • Migration Assistant--Transfer an individual application only?

I have two computers--one a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and another a MacBook Air running 10.7.
I have Adobe CS3 on the MacPro and wanted to transfer it to the MacAir.
However, the Mac Air is already set up and I have already used Migration Assistant to set it up, but did not transfer the Applications.
So now I want to transfer only Adobe CS3 to the Mac Air, but no other files.
This is because the MacAir will not let me install CS3 because it is a PPC app
My workaround idea is to try to transfer it through Migration Assistant without transferring my entire Application folder
Any way I can do that?
Many thanks in advance for your help

Not sure about that, seems to want to work for Photoshop CS3, but I don't want to re-install it to prove the point:
It also looks like that it can be installed by just dragging the Photoshop folder to the Applications folder:
