We are working on a project in which we are trying to migrate the application from
the Vignette epicentric platform to the weblogic portal 8.1. What are the practical
difficulties that you may come across while doing this. Please advise.

Uploading a file from jsp page on weblogic portal 9.2 into VCR content node

I am working on Content Management in Weblogic Portal 9.2 using the com.bea.content API. I have succedded to the extent that I have created "Node" both Hierarchy and Content Node in the Virtual Content Repository using the CM API from a JSP.
Now I have to upload a file from this JSP into VCR Content Node. I am facing some problems. I am not able to figure out which class to use for this purpose from CM API. Please help in this regard.

You need to ensure you're using an ObjectClass with a PropertyDefiition of type Property.BINARY. Then, construct a BinaryValue with your InputStream. Use that to construct the Value and Property for the Node you're creating or updating.

Developing portal using Weblogic portal 10.3 or weblogic workshop 10.3

I am new to portal development. I see that one can develop portal using Oracle weblogic workshop 10.3 which has many features including Java Page Flow and Java controls. I am wondering what extra features one can get using Weblogic portal 10.3. The Weblogic platform 10.3 which I use does not have weblogic portal, it has weblogic AS and workshop. Do I need weblogic portal install now or in future while developing portal. I am trying to develop a portal from scratch. Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Some suggesssions,
While installing the weblogic you need select weblogic portal option also. Only for weblogic different installation exe file with portal different exe file.
To get the weblogic portal server and portal work shop with weblogc you need to down load weblogic portal 10.3 exe file.

Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
1.
The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):

There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/

I am working on migrating Enterpirse application developed using Struts, Ejb2.0, JMS. Its been deployed on OAS 10G and Websphere, but I need to deploy the application on Weblogic 10.3. It seems you have migrated a J2ee application from OAS 10G to Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that you followed to migrate the application.
As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
1.4 Resource Adapter
2) JMS queue set up
3) JDBC set up
It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.

Migration from Oracle OC4J to Weblogic 10.3 and CLOB ClassCastException

I am migrating a web application from Oracle OC4J to Weblogic 10.0.3. In this application there are number of java files which uses the following piece of code and I can't change that:
oracle.sql.CLOB clob = (oracle.sql.CLOB)rs.getClob(columnNumber);
I have deployed the application on Weblogic Application Server. But when I run the application, it gives me the following exception:

I have tried using ojdbc5, ojdbc6 and classess12 but with the same result. I am stuck with the problem. I have googled a lot but in vein. In some posts I got the idea to use weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob. But there is no package or class like mentioned in bold, available in weblogic.jar that I get from WEBLOGIC_HOEM/lib. I have downloaded weblogic 10.3 two times but still got no solution. weblogic.jar does not contain weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob.
I have also read about using weblogic.jdbc.common.OracleClob to write unicode data but I do not find this package within the weblogic.jar
Any idea please......

You can directly consume the WSDL of the provider (running custom struts application on JSR-168) into Portal 10.1.4, that is register the provider WSDL in Oracle Portal.

Weblogic Portal Sequencer

HI Experts,
We are currently migrating a custom CMS to weblogic portal CMS, we've done the migration on the database level by creating scripts that will insert the data from old CMS to WLP CMS, however after migrating all the data we encountered a PK violation in CM_NODE table particularly on NODE_ID column when we are trying to create a new content via WLP CMS API. i found out that the ID's on this column (NODE_ID) are generated by p13n's Sequencer ( correct me if I'm wrong). here is my question, is there a way to alter the sequencer's starting value to avoid PK violation on the current NODE_ID's on CM_NODE table? i checked the the SEQUENCER table and tried to alter the current value for NODE_ID but i got no luck. or is there a way to call the sequencer on an insert script? so the scripts that i created will still use the IDs generated by the sequencer. i hope you can help me on this. thanks in advance!

WLP uses the table SEQUENCER to maintain all sequences.
You just have to find entries you want to update in this table. Restart your WLP servers after this operation.

1. If this is your first time with Weblogic Portal, I would recommend to download the latest Weblogic Portal Software Rel 10.3.2 from this bottom link. Check Accept Radio button, for windows download windows installer. Its about 1 GB file. This software includes Eclipse IDE, Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal.

2. During the installation process, make sure at one point you select Custom mode (NOT default Typical mode). In next following screens you will see all bundles checked EXCEPT for Samples. So make sure you check Samples Check box both under Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal. Then proceed. This will install full Weblogic Workshop (Eclipse IDE), Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal. This is the good installation package. Also it will install samples for Portal and Server. If you select all default typical mode, it will NOT install samples. You can install samples later on also, but its good at installation time itself you select custom and check Samples also.
3. WLP 10.3.2 uses Eclipse IDE. If you are familiar with Eclipse IDE this should be helpful. Otherwise also, its ok.
4. For learning WLP, in Eclipse IDE, you need to create Portal EAR Project, then Portal Web Project. Inside portal web project create simple jsp hello world portlets and a simple portal.
5. For Deploying and Testing Portal application you need to create Portal Domain using config wizard. You can see this from Start -> Programs -> Oracle Weblogic Portal shortcut -> Weblogic Server -> Tools -> Configuration Wizard.
6. You can start Workshop IDE from Start -> Program Files -> Oracle Weblogic Portal ...-> Eclipse For Weblogic 10.3.2

Migration from WebSphere - Weblogic: RAS logger

What would be easy way or strategy to handle ibm ras logger when we migrate to weblogic?

The link provided caters to Websphere Studio to WebLogic 8.1. My requirement is migration from WebSphere 5.x to WebLogic. My current architecture is as follows:
1. Front End: JSP (Ver 1.2), XSL, XML
2. Middle Layer: EJB (EJB Ver 2.0) (Stateless Session Beans) (Deployed in IBM WebSphere 5.0)
3. RDBMS: Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition - Release 2.
4. Modal View Controller architecture (MVC)
5. Number of JAR files: 137
6. One WAR File
7. Appserver OS: W2K.
All the files needs to be migrated to WebLogic 8.1 including the deployment descriptor.
Is there any tool for this conversion? Any white paper, proof of concept, document on steps, approach, risks, mitigation,etc will be helpful.

this problem is due to hard-coded user/pwd in installation scripts. Here are steps
1) open file AIA_HOME/Infrastructure/install/wlscripts/FPWLCommonConfig.xml
2) reach to target CreateStartupClasses
3) there are three java tasks for com.oracle.oems.weblogic.AQJMSPasswordUtility
4) in the task for oraesb, password is hardcoded as 'oraesb' in clear text.
5) this should be password of 'ORAESB' database user.
6) change this password value; and restart the installation.
