Migrating from PSE5 to Elements 11

I have been using Elements 5 for several years, and have 30,000+ pictures on file.  I now have a new computer and Elements 11, but the new software does not recognize all the old pictures.  Is there some way to get these pictures onto Elements 11 without going through the long process of reading them in file by file?  The new computer doesn't seem to want to run Elements 5, by the way.

  • Migrating from Windows Photoshop Elements to iPhoto '08

    I recently got a Mac and I'm looking into migrating from Windows Photoshop Elements 6.0 to iPhoto 7 ('08).
    I've seached this forum, but I didn't find any detailed tips, tricks and recommendations on how to do the migration. I know about the PE (Photoshop Elements) command to write keyword information into the files (something like File->write tags to file). Someone (IIRC Barbara B.) also mentioned something about scripts to make the transition smoother, although I haven't seen any detailed information on what and where these scripts are. Basically, I'd like to hear from users who have migrated from Windows Photoshop Elements. I have thousands of pictures and prior planning can save me lots of time.
    Some questions:
    1. Photoshop Elements has a tagging feature, which is similar to iPhoto's keyword feature. Not sure how iPhoto will process the keywords. Do I just import the pictures into iPhoto and iPhoto will recognize the keywords? Should I create the keywords in iPhoto ahead of time prior to import (using names that exactly match Photoshop tag names) ?
    2. In PE, I've assigned captions to pictures. Can iPhoto read the captions and treat them as titles or descriptions?
    3. In PE, I've assigned ratings to pictures. Can iPhoto read them, or do I need to manually redo the ratings in iPhoto?
    4. One PE feature that I will really miss is hierarchical tags (e.g. Family->Kid's name). (Aside: everyone, please put in a request to Apple to support this feature!!) While I would prefer a native iPhoto feature to support hierarchical tags, I saw that there are 3rd party plugins available. What's the best one in terms of features and long term support/viability? Is it Keyword Manager?
    5. Any easy way to translate my PE Album definitions when migrating to iPhoto? I assume I would need to recreate them from scratch based on keywords and optionally ratings?
    6. I'm afraid to ask this next question (and I'm sure this is worthy of many separate threads). I'm still grappling with the concept of Events. In my mind, an event is something "monumental", and I've used Albums in PE for these "monumenal" events. A large percentage of my pictures don't really fit into a "monumental event" categary. Instead, they are pictures that were taken in a random/candid manner. Or, I might have pictures that are truly events, but maybe only 1 or 2 pictures would fit into an event. If I started using iPhoto from the very beginning, it may be easier to deal with the concept of events. However, I already have thousands of pictures. I'm wary of importing all my pictures in one shot (rather than on a per "event" basis), since it may result in hundreds of events, which, IMO, wouldn't provide much organizational value. Anyone have any tips/philosophical opinions on how to deal with events when thousands of pictures need to be imported? Someone (T.D.?) mentioned they organize by year for older pictures. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Can't answer all your questions, but I'll have a go at a couple.
    If you write the tags to the file then iPhoto will recognise them as part of the IPTC data. There is no way to create tags in advance.
    2. In PE, I've assigned captions to pictures. Can iPhoto read the captions and treat them as titles or descriptions?
    Can Elements write these to the IPTC data? If so, iPhoto should read them. A little trial will confirm.
    3. In PE, I've assigned ratings to pictures. Can iPhoto read them, or do I need to manually redo the ratings in iPhoto?
    No, the IPTC data does not recognise ratings.
Keyword Manager is the way to do this.
    5. Any easy way to translate my PE Album definitions when migrating to iPhoto? I assume I would need to recreate them from scratch based on keywords and optionally ratings?
    What do you mean by "album definitions"?
    About Events:
    Don't get hung up on a word. They could have as easily called them 'trousers' and it would make almost as much sense
    An 'Event' is an import that is automatically divided into folders depending on the criteria you set in the iPhoto Preferences.
    Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
    You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
    So, really an Event is a Folder.
    For my money, Events are a very limited way of organising photos. They are strictly date and time based. As time goes by I consolidate them - Spring 06, Summer 07, America 08 (I do this as we have three cameras feeding the Library).
    I organise using Albums, Smart Albums and Keywords.
    Albums (Smart or otherwise) are virtual entities. Unlike Events, they reference files on the HD, so a pic can be in 1,10 or 100 Albums with no extra disk space used. (To have a pic in two events requires two copies of the files.) They are infinitely flexible and offer a much richer set of possibilities.
    How have you your photos organised currently? In folders? On what basis? If you can explain how that works we may be able to help you recreate this system in iPhoto.
    Regards
    TD

  • Migrating from Picasa to Elements

    I have always used picasa, and have many thousands of pics on Picasa. I want to move my entire workflow to Elements 7 on windows 7.
    Is there any simple way to migrate Picasa albums to Elements?

    Interesting Query...
    I myself have migrated from Picasa to Photoshop Elements long time back.... But I had few images that time.. I have one solution for you if you were organizing through Folders and if you want those folders as Albums in Photoshop Elements...
    Simple workflow is:
    - Launch Organizer
    - Import all the files into a new Catalog of Organizer
    - Go to Folder View
    - Select one Folder.. you get an optoon to create instant Album >> Just click on that option and an album will be created. This album will have all the files in that folder and same name will be assigned to that Album...
    If files are not organized in folder, there is no standard workflow to migrate from Picasa to Photoshop Elements..
    And I have used Photoshop Elements 7 .. Now converted PSE7 catalog of 14000 images (Most of them are NEF) to PSE8 and it works fine for me :-)
    I am very happy with this great Product having rich features.... Ohh, Did I miss to mention that Face Recognition in 8th release of Photoshop elements rock!!!

  • Migrating from Windows Photoshop Elements 5.0 to iProto 06

    Hi,
    I currently have all the family photos on a windoze machine with Photoshop elements 5.0 and i'd like to move over to using iPhoto.
    What's the best way of importing them into iPhoto?
    Is it just a case of pointing iPhoto at a particular directory and saying "here you are"?
    Given that I've grouped and annotated a fair number of photos in elements, will i also lose that info as well?
    Thx
    alex

    No, wait! Don't move those files if you have them in the Organizer. First use the Write Tags to Files command on them. That will put the tags in as metadata keywords. iPhoto uses a proprietary keyword system, but if you google around you can find scripts to make iphoto keywords from metadata keywords.
    If you've already been jiggering around moving those files in windows outside of the organizer, though, you're toast, since the organizer will no longer know where the photos are. You'll have to reconnect each one individually, and frankly it would be just as easy to start your tagging all over in iphoto (which gets equally irked if you mess with your library outside the program). Note that you can't write tags to Raw files in PE.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 8 (Windows 7 64 bit) to PE 12 (MAC)

    I am planning to move from a PC Windows 7-based system to a MAC.  As part of this move I will need to migrate Photoshop Elements from PE 8 in Windows to PE 12 on MAC.  Back in July, I previously asked what steps would be necessary to migrate to PE 11 on MAC, but I delayed making the move (waiting for the new MacBook Pro) and will now be migrating to PE 12.
    Do I still follow the same steps for a (hopefully!) smooth transition of my tagged photos and catalog?  i.e., migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 12 (Windows).  Then from PE 12 (Windows) to PE 12 (MAC).  Are there any gotchas or caveats that I should be aware of?  I've read a few horror stories in various places and am nervous.
    Thanks, Amy

    I'm a bit slow on implementation.  So far I have good news and bad news.  But bottom line, I need some additional help.
    First the good news: The upgrade in Windows from PE 8 to PE 12 went smoothly, with all tags and their hierarchical structure maintained.  Ditto for Albums which showed up under "Local Albums."
    I am now stymied with the bad news and hoping for more guidance:  I just got my new MacBook last week, with my data files transfered over from my Windows PC.  Unfortunately, the migration to PE 12 MAC (installed for me with the disc from the boxed version) did not make the transition smoothly.  All of my tags came in under "Imported Keyword Tags," with the hierarchical structure totally flattened, and they cannot be dragged-and-dropped into a renewed structure into People, Places, and Events tags, as appropriate.  Also, all of my Albums have disappeared.
    I'm thinking that maybe I should restore the catalog.  But when I started to do so, I was asked to choose between New or Original Location.  Then, when I chose "original location" (not wanting to clutter my new hard drive with duplicates), PE 12 gave me a warning about the potential for changes to the existing file structure.  So I stopped and decided to come back to the Adobe Forum for more help.
    Thanks in advance!  Again!  Amy

  • Migration from Adobe Elements (Win XP) to Aperture 2

    I am moving from a Windows XP machine with Adobe Elements 4 to an iMac and Aperture 2.1. I need to move thousands (6000 ??) of images to Aperture 2.1 and hopefully keep my metadata (keywords, tags and ratings) in the process. Both machines are connected to a LAN and I also have a network drive which I use as a backup device and shared storage. The majority of the files are JPEG (95%) with a few Canon RAW images in the mix.
    Is there a recommended method of migrating Adobe Elements 4.0 files to Aperture 2.1?

    I, too, would like to migrate from Photoshop Elements 4.0 on Windoze XP to Aperture 2.0 on OS X. And I'm hoping there's a way to migrate all 601,012 of my tags to Aperture instead of having to redo them all as Aperture keywords manually.
    Does anyone know if this is possible? Or perhaps there's a utility to write Elements' tags as EXIF/IPTC prior to moving the files over and importing them into Aperture?

  • How to upgrade Photoshop Elements 3? [was: Migrating from XP to windows7]

    I have migrated from a PC under XP to a PC under Windows7. How do I upgrade
    my Photoshop Elements application ?

    You can upgrade to PSE11 (current version) via the Adobe website. Any previous version of PSE (including yours) qualifies for the upgrade price.

  • How to migrate Photoshop Elements data from a PC Elements V9 to a Mac Elements V11?

    Migrating from a PC to a Mac and want to continue with Photoshop Elements.  How do I get the data moved from the PC to the Mac (V9 to V11) so that Elements will recognize and use the previous information (photos, files, etc.)?

    Do a full backup to a removable drive in windows using the organizer command, then restore to the mac. Look for the .tly file in the backup folder. According to adobe, catalogs from PSE 9 onwards can be moved cross platform this way.

  • Concept questions (editing jpegs, migrating from Album/Elements)

    Hi Lightroom experts,
    I have a collection of jpegs which I have been organizing in Adobe Album, and now Elements 5.0. I was pleased to see that Elements 5 could write the metadata (keywords) to the jpegs rather than relying upon a proprietary database. It was clear to me that in Elements the keywords were in a separate database and one had to expressly write the tags to the files.
    In Lightroom there is also a separate database (which requires management - like backing it up on a regular basis). What is not clear to me is how to write the metadata/tags to the original jpeg files. Does that happen automatically or must I instruct Lightroom to do so?
    Must I export the files in order to write the adjusted metadata? If so, that means I have two copies (original and exported).
    Secondly, I have both Photoshop CS2 and Elements 5.0. Lightroom only has an option to Edit In Elements but I want that option to be Edit in Photoshop. It is unclear how to change that configuration.
    Finally, does anyone have any comments regarding migrating from Album/Elements to Lightroom for an amateur photographer like myself? Would you advise that? (I do like what I've seen in Lightroom but need to understand much more).
    Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

    Fielding,
    I switched from Elements 5 after only a few weeks with it when I saw the great improvements in Lightroom from beta 4 to version 1. Several reasons for my switch. One, Elements only supports a few metadata tags, mostly keywords. I needed more to do what I wanted to do. Many people use collections in Elements for things that aren't in my opinion suitable, like for keeping trip or event pictures together. You can have that information in metadata by choosing an appropriate metadata field and using it. I'm using Job Identifier in Workflow myself. So I find the metadata support far superior in Lightroom. I was also concerned that Elements, being a product for hobbyists, would not be able to handle the large number of images I intend to put into the database. I already had trouble with the elements database ballooning so I was very concerned. I also think it has about the ugliest interface I've seen in a long time. I suppose the latter doesn't matter, but LR is SO beautiful!
    I can't help you with how to get photoshop to show up. Did you try Edit/Preferences? If Elements is the first one there, the second one allows you to choose. Which Photoshop do you have? Before I got CS2 I think I did have PS find it for Lightroom.
    You can ask Lightroom to write out the metadata but it does not do it in such a way that you can see it in some other applications. When it says it writes it out as XMP it means it. It's in there, but you can only see it with applications that can read XMP as opposed to IPTC etc. When you export, it does write the metadata in the way most products expect it. I've decided not to worry about this though because a) I back up my lightroom database, and b) if I do decide to abandon Lightroom, or it abandons me, I will in any case have to export everything because without exporting you don't have the Develop adjustments either. Then I back up my LR backups and my image repository, usually nightly.
    My migration from Elements did not go very well but I was lucky because I'd just started entering stuff in Elements when I abandoned it -- so I didn't lose much. You can do a search of this forum, maybe on the word elements, to see several threads about the problems people have had. If you have everything in Album you might try a transfer from that first and see if it works. You can always toss your LR database if you want to try a different way of loading it. You do not have to move your files to import them into LR.
    If you want a catalog, you will need a database so you get reasonable response on queries, which is presumably the reason for wanting a catalog. Both the Elements database and the LR database are standard databases that you can manipulate yourself, should you choose to do so. Elements is Access, LR is SQLite. I did look at the Elements db but haven't done anything with the LR database. I hope I don't have to because LR can export the metadata. Collections are not in metadata so I'm using collections only for things I don't need to keep.

  • Migrating from PSE 5.0 Windows to PSE 6.0 Mac

    I am trying to figure out how to migrate from PSE 5.0 for Windows to PSE 6.0 for Mac.
    When I migrated from PSE4.0 to PSE5.0 (windows) I simply backed up and then restored the catalog.
    I have backed up the catalog from PSE 5.0 but don't know how to import the info into PSE 6.0 for Mac. Being as there is no Organizer window in the Mac version I assume it is done via Bridge, but didn't see anything to restore a catalog.
    Is it possible or do I just point Bridge at my photos and get it to create tags from the keywords embedded in the pics?
    All suggestions and hints welcome.

    As not many users here are familiar with Elements at all, I suggest you post in one of the Photoshop
    Elements
    forums down the hall.

    Re: Migrate from JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2

  • Webservice migration from 8.x to 12c

    Hi all,
    I have a question regarding the Webservice migration from 8.x to 12c.
    In the 8.x, we use ant task wsdl2service to generate Webservice from WSDL, and 12c that ant task seems no longer exist. We have to use wsdlc instead. But there is a problem:
    Because of we generate Webservice interface from WSDL, and the WSDL defined binding SOAP header inside the input tag, our old wsdl file is RPC document literal wrapped style. Something like:
    <operation name="getData">
      <soap:operation soapAction="" style="document" />
      <input>
      <soap:header message="tns:UserAuthMessage" part="user-Auth-header" use="literal" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" />
      <soap:body use="literal" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" />
      </input>
      <output>
      <soap:body use="literal" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" />
      </output>
    </operation>
    <portType name="AppPort">
      <operation name="getData">
      <input message="tns:GetDataRequest" />
      <output message="tns:GetDataResponse" />
      </operation>
    </portType>
    <message name="UserAuthMessage">
      <part name="user-auth-header" element="wsapi:user-auth-header" />
    </message>
    <message name="GetDataRequest">
      <part name="get-data-argument" element="wsapi:get-data-argument" />
    </message>
    <message name="GetDataResponse">
      <part name="get-data-response-argument" element="wsapi:get-data-response-argument" />
    </message>
    <xsd:element name="user-auth-header" type="wsapi:user-auth-header-wrapper" />
    <xsd:complexType name="user-auth-header-wrapper">
      <xsd:sequence>
      </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:element name="get-data-argument" type="wsapi:get-data-argument-wrapper" />
    <xsd:complexType name="get-data-argument-wrapper">
      <xsd:sequence>
      </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:element name="get-data-response-argument" type="wsapi:get-data-response-argument-wrapper" />
    <xsd:complexType name="get-data-response-argument-wrapper">
      <xsd:sequence>
      </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    In Weblogic 8.x, the generation would include that soap header as the input premeter, but in 11g, or newer 12c, the wsdlc no longer generate it as input premeter, which impact client, our client have to re-generate all client jar again, because the interface complete changed.
    Just want to know, is there any way to generate soap header for auth as the same as we did in Weblogic 8.x ? Or anyway can don't need re-generate client jar and keep the old WSDL file.
    Thank you.

    The WebLogic Server 8.1 Web services stack has been removed in the WebLogic Server 12.1.1 release. Therefore, WebLogic Server 8.1 Web services applications will no longer work. Oracle recommends that you upgrade such applications to the WebLogic JAX-RPC or JAX-WS stacks, per the instructions in "Upgrading an 8.1 WebLogic Web Service to 12.1.x
    Thanks,

  • Migrating from SRM 7.0 Classic to ECS - Seeking some clarifications

    Hello Friends,
    We are now planning to upgrade from SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0 and then migrated to Classic to ECS. We have the below challenging points which I need clarification,
    1) How do we go about the Taxation and Pricing Part, If we migrate from Classic to ECS
    2) Presently we have R/3 contracts in place and the same is linked to MDM catalogue and now the client wants the contracts to
        be in SRM. In that case how do we go about the strategy.
    3) Asset Procurement: Now all WBS element are converting into assets by running the Z-Program in between PR and PO in R/3
       system. But when we migrate to ECS PO gets created in SRM, so how do we go about the asset procurement in ECS scenario.
    4) Confirmation and Invoice transferring to R/3 through Idoc distribution Model. Going forward in SRM 7.0 the same will continue or
        do we go with SOA. Please confirm.
    Further to this can you please let me know, what are all the major challenges for upgrading the system to SRM 7.0 and migration from Classic to ECS.
    I would appreciate for you quick response. Points will be awarded for appropriate answers.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ram.

    Ramesh,
    Few inputs for this project
    1. You need to clearly seperate out the upgrate (5.0 to 7.0) and Migration (Classic to ECS) in your project planning to derisk the project i.e. you should have seperate testing cycle time/ efforts for  upgrade and then on migration so that functional/ teachnical team working out in the project can clearly identifies issues between upgrade and migration seperately and work on them.
    2. You have to work with business to make a decision on conversion of old classic PO's (incomplete GR/IR still required) and PO in process (SC created under approval in SRM). I strongly suggest you should not involve into conversion and keep it out of this project.
    3. SRM do have option to take care of your tax configuration. BTW most of the company use external software to calculate tax amount.
    4. You need to build workflow for PO in SRM since now PO will be created in SRM.
    5. You need to create smartform / output determination in SRM for the PO. Please note SAP has provided some consulting notes if you continue to handle document transmission in backend with ECS.
    6. Yes a distribution model needs to be setup for confirmation and Invoice if you are not doing it now in classic scenario.
    Asset procurement solution you mentioned looks specific to your Org business needs, you need to explore to fit into new environment.
    All the best
    Thanks, Sachin

  • Issues in migrating from jaxb1.0 to jaxb 2.0

    Hi,
    I am facing following issue while trying to migrate from Jaxb 1.0 to 2.0.
    I am not able to generate a java class from the <xsd:element> in jaxb 2.0. This used to work perfectly in jaxb1.0.
    the schema as follows:

      </xs:schema>On compiling both these schema files I get only BBBB.java. previously we used to get AAAA.java as well.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    I have found the answer to my query. I missed out the '@generateElementClass' attibute of the <jaxb:globalBindings> in my global xsd file (vendor cusotmization). by making generateElementClass="true". will generate java classes for <xs:element> also.
