Migrating from Weblogic Portal 4.0 to 8.1

Hi folks,
do you know of any handy migration guide for old Portal 4.0. I have found myself migration guides from 4.0 to 7, and from 7 to 8.1, but i need a more direct migration from 4.0 to 8.1 . My company needs to estimate migration efforts/costs for a large base of portals.
Thanks in advance,
Patricio.

Hi sparihar, thanks for quick response!
Let me ask, why wouldn´t you recommend direct migration? Gathering around the forum had found some posts complaining about the difficult task migrating from ver 4 to v. 7, does a whole app rewrite in 8.1 makes sense i.s.o. a double migration?
TIA,
Patricio.

  • Migration from WebLogic Portal to WebCenter Portal

    Hi,
    we are on the way to migrate our WebLogic Portal application to the new WebCenter Portal Framework. We have solved some problems but now we are having one, we do not know how to solve it.
    In our WebLogic Portal we used the tag "isUserInRole" from http://www.bea.com/servers/p13n/tags/auth
    we cannot find this tag or something comparable in the new environment.
    <code>
    <%@ taglib prefix="auth" uri="http://www.bea.com/servers/p13n/tags/auth"%>
    <auth:isUserInRole roleName="AuthenticatedVisitor" roleMap="rm" id="rid">
    </auth:isUserInRole>
    </code>
    I know, we could start writing our own tag libraries but I cannot believe that this is the preferred and recommended way.
    Our environment at the WebLogic Portal (WebLogic Server 10.3.2) is JDK 1.6 and JSF 1.2
    and in the first step we would like to just keep everything as it is not migrate to ADF, this will be a later step.
    Target Environment: WebCenter Portal Framework 11.1.1.4.
    Can anyone help, please?

    I don't realy know WebLogic portal so i don't realy know what the isUserInRole actualy does in WLP.
    Can you tell a bit about the functionality of that tag?
    Is it that everything between those tags will only be shown in the case that a user is in particular role? If so, this can be easily achieved in webcenter. We don't have a <auth:isUserInRole> tag but we can use the securityContext of ADF (WebCenter) in combination with the rendered attribute.
    A simple example. Suppose you have a JSPX page with a panelGroupLayout and you only want to show the content of that section if the user is an admin:
    <af:panelGroupLayout rendered="#{securityContext.userInRole['Administrator']}">
    </af:panelGroupLayout>You can use the rendered attribute on pritty much all the components, both WebCenter as ADF.
    Is this what you mean or don't i understand your question?

  • Migration from Weblogic 7.0 to 8.1

    Hi,
    I have this project where we have to migrate from Weblogic Portal 7.0 to 8.1 . I have a few questions,
    1. Is there any anything like a wildcard event in Page Flow, which existed in the Webflow?
    2. What about proxy nodes? Does Page flow support proxy nodes?
    The reason I ask is my webflow has these things and I need to manually convert it into a page flow.
    Thanks
    PS: This is just the beginning of a long path of migration.:-)

    Thanksfrom what i remember about webflow the proxy thing was just an IDE thing and as used to kind uf break up you weblows in to nested ones. Pageflow do support tru nested pageflows

  • JMS issues when migration from weblogic 9.2 to 10.3.5

    We are facing some issues when migration from weblogic 9.2 to 10.3.5
    In  weblogic 9.2 :_
    BMP Entity EJBs used in our project are read-only in nature using entity cache, below is the configuration details
    <!DOCTYPE weblogic-ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//BEA Systems, Inc.//DTD WebLogic 6.0.0 EJB//EN" "http://www.bea.com/servers/wls600/dtd/weblogic-ejb-jar.dtd">

    </ejb-name>
    <entity-descriptor>
    <pool>

    </pool>
    <entity-cache>
    <max-beans-in-cache>3500</max-beans-in-cache>
    <idle-timeout-seconds>100000</idle-timeout-seconds>
    <read-timeout-seconds>0</read-timeout-seconds>
    <concurrency-strategy>ReadOnly</concurrency-strategy>
    </entity-cache>
    Entity beans will get refreshed using the JMS messges. with in the MDB descriptor files(weblogic-ejb-jar.xml) we are using the provider URL directly and XA enabled connection factory is set to false.
    migration to Weblogic 10.3.5_
    With the same configurations MDB are not not getting deployed in weblogic 10 with some exception, so we removed the provider URL from weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and changed the JMS configuration to use foreign JMS and XA enable connection factory is set to true. Now when ever the JMS message is triggered Entity bean is not getting refreshed with the updated values. i.e values are stale.
    Can some one look into this and provide your inputs to resolve this issue.

    I think the Entity bean refresh problem appears to be unrelated to MDBs. The MDB is only responsible for getting the message to your application (which in turn interacts with Entity beans). You might want to try posting your question to an EJB newsgroup.

  • JCOM with Weblogic6.1(migrating from weblogic 6.0)

    Hello,
    We are currently running our application on Weblogic 6.0. Also we have a VB client
    which talks to Enity beans deployed in the Weblogic server, via JINTEGRA(jintegra.jar)
    Now, we are planning to migrate from Weblogic 6.0 to Weblogic 6.1. In this context,
    I have following questions,
    1]     Can I use JCOM for my requirement(talking to EJB's from VB client)
    2]     Is JCOM shipped along with Weblogic 6.1, if so is it shipped as a separate
    jar file or as part of weblogic.jar
    3]     With Weblogic 6.1, do I have to still install Jintegra.jar for accessing my
    beans from VB or does JCOM solve the purpose ?
    Would really appreciate if you could share your thoughts

    You can use filtering classloaders - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24329_01/web.1211/e24368/classloading.htm#i1097930
    Some examples are given here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6725 (see the "Manipulating class loading" section).

  • Steps to upgrade from Weblogic Portal 8.1 to Webcenter Portal 11.1.1.6

    Currently I'm involved in consulting for a client who has Weblogic Portal (WLP) 8.1. I'm trying to find documentation for upgrade from WLP 8.1 to Webcenter 11.1.1.6.
    I found the below link but the starting point for upgrade is Oracle WebCenter 10g (10.1.3)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e22628/wcmap.htm
    I'm not clear if I should migrate from WLP 8.1 to WLP 10.3.x and then to Webcenter or direct migration from WLP 8.1 to Webcenter is possible ?
    Any pointers / links / case study would be helpful.
    Thanks for the helping soul in advance.

    Thank you jiri for the quick response.
    Regarding your comment 'upgrade from WLP 8.1 to WLP 10.3.5 is not for free', I did some search and found that the documentation is available for upgrading from 8.1 to 10.3.4 as below :
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26806_01/wlp.1034/e14253/upgrade_process.htm
    Also when I went to the 10.3.5 documentation library (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35968_01/index.htm), I found the below link (where the upgrade process points 8.1 to 10.3.4 instead of 8.1 to *10.3.5*)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26806_01/wlp.1034/e14253/toc.htm
    My understanding (after reading the documentation + your comment) is that we can upgrade from 8.1 to 10.3.4 but to upgrade to 10.3.5 we need to pay Oracle. Could you point me to a link which has that information ?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Creation of domain issues - migration from weblogic 10.3.0 to 10.3.5 versio

    Hello,
    i would like to kindly ask for a help with following issue:
    Basically we are migrating from the 10.3.0 to the 10.3.5 version. We are building the domain using the template in "silent mode". And when i try to create the domain with new weblogic 10.3.5 im getting some errors.
    The command to run the creation of the domain is following:
    ${WL_HOME}/common/bin/config.sh -mode=silent -silent_script=${SILENT_SCRIPT} -log=${WLLOGFILE} >> ${LOGFILE} 2>&1
    returnCode=$?
    SILENT_SCRIPT contains following commands:
    read template from "/local/wg372/BM/appl/config/NEW_DOMAIN_CONFIGURED.jar";
    write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";
    set OverwriteDomain "true";
    close template;
    When i setup new env(solaris) with weblogic 10.3.5 im getting following error when the silent_script command (*write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";*) is executed:

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply but im not sure if we are talking about the same thing. What i need is to upgrade the weblogic "DOMAIN" not the weblogic installation itself.
    Anyway,
    after some googling and testing im again stucked with another issue:
    1. First i have created the old doman (10.3.0)
    2. Then i have tested the domain with the new weblogic version 10.3.5 - as it should be (and is) compatible within those 2 versions
    ---> worked fine
    3. Then via offline WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) i have managed to create new template with command writeTemplate(nameOfTemplate.jar)
    4. But when i try to create the new domain with the new template via WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) im again stucked (im able to read the template in wlst but not able to writeDomain ) - error:
    wls:/offline> readTemplate('/home/wg372/tmp/new_template.jar')
    wls:/offline/BmDomain>writeDomain('/home/wg372/tmp/new_domain')
    Error: writeDomain() failed. Do dumpStack() to see details.

    I tried to have a look around for the "The application location must have write permission." problem but again with no luck.
    Furthemore when i try to do the same with old domain template, with old version of WLST (of weblogic 10.3.0), i have no problems with creating of the domain.
    Any ideas?
    Ill keep you updated :-)

  • Regarding Migration from Weblogic 10.3.0 to 10.3.3

    We have configured a domain in our weblogic 10.3.0 installation. With in this domain A J2EE application has been deployed with datasources configuration, JAAS configuration.
    Is it possible to migrate to Weblogic 10.3.3 without making any changes in our existing application configuration and domain setup?
    If yes can any one please tell us what is the procedure?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    first of all could you please clarify the need for migration from  BO XI 3.0 to 3.1, as you can simply apply SP1 on top of 3.0 and it becomes 3.1.
    if you have considered this and still needs to migrate, following are the 3 posible options.
    1. Live-Live Migration - Import Wizard is the tool
    2. BIAR - Live Migration - Import Wizard is the tool
    Please reffer the Import Wizrd User guide for the option 1 and 2 link provided in the above thread.
    Also the 3rd option is to perform the Databse and Filesystem copy, find the step below.
    Launch CCM from the Destination System
    Copy all of the file store from your Source implementation to the file store folder for your Destination implementation
    Stop SIA - right click and select properties - Go to the Configuration tab - Click on the button to specify the data source -
    Select "Copy Data from another Data Source". This will copy the data from your source to the Destination.
    Regards,
    Ramu.

    Repositories are essentially external to applications.
    Applications are associated with repositories via repository configs. Repository configs allow applications to access repositories.
    1. There is no special 'centralized repository'.
    2. This can be done, but has caveats, especially around caching. If multiple applications have repo configs which refer to the same repository, there can be caching issues. For example, suppose apps A and B both have repo configs for accessing repo R. If you use app A to change some data in repo R, then try to read the change via app B, you can end up with cached data instead of the most recent data in repo R. This is something to be aware of with this type of configuration.
    3. There is typically one WLP admin url per application. For example, if you have an application named 'FooApp', then the admin url can typically be found at 'http://localhost:7001/FooAppAdmin'. Application 'BarApp' may have an admin url at http://localhost:7001/BarAppAdmin.
    You can use the weblogic server console at http://localhost:7001/console to see these -- click on Deployments, then click Monitoriing. In the Context Root column, you can see the various top-level context roots registered for this application.
    4. Repositories are top-level possibly-shared entities, similar to databases.
    Applications 'use' Repositories via Repository Configs.
    Applications 'own' RepositoryConfigs, which allow them to 'use' a specific Repository.
    It's possible to have multiple applications 'use' the same repository (each application would have to have its own RepoConfig referring to the same repository), but there can be caching issues with this configuration -- see (2).
    Each application 'owns' its own set of repo configs, and therefore its own VCR namespace. The VCR namespace is compsed of the RepoConfigs that application 'owns'. For example, if an application has repository configs with names 'Repo1' and 'Repo2', then the VCR namespace includes /Repo1/... and /Repo2/...
    Note that each RepoConfig entry has a name, which becomes its VCR namespace path. The path to a node in a repository begins with / followed by the name of the RepoConfig followed by /. Application A and application B may each be accessing Repo R, but via different names. For example, if A has the path to Repo R registered via name 'RepoR', then its VCR path to Repo R is /RepoR/... If B has the path to Repo R registered via the name 'R', then its VCR path to Repo R is /R/...
