Migrating got JOIN DELETED howto in Oracle 9i???

Hi,
I'm doing a migration from SQL Server 2000, my statement actually work, but I want to optimize... I just can't find an equivalent for JOIN Deleted or JOIN Inserted ...
anyone can give me a hint?
Thanks
Pete

generally, that error appears if the field data on form is different from what in database, you are in single user system situation, e.g., format mask may cause it, search the error number in metalink form forum, you will see tons of the docs, which will help you debug it out.
Another point is that you may need to add on-lock and on-update/insert/delete trigger as your form is acutally based on a view unless your UML table is PK table.

  • Problem : SQL Server Delete Statement vs Oracle Delete Statement

    Hi,
I am currently involved in a SQL Server - Oracle Migration effort and I have hit a roadblock on one of the queries.
I have created two tables named DUMMY and DUMMY1 in MSDE with the same structure :-
    CREATE TABLE DUMMY
         CLIENT_ID                                             INT,
         NME                                                   VARCHAR(80),
         BATCH_ID                                              INT,
         CATALOG_NAME                                          VARCHAR(50),
         DATA_SOURCE                                           VARCHAR(50)
GOI have a DELETE statement that deletes from the two tables, by selecting common data using Joins:-
    DELETE  DUMMY
    FROM      DUMMY src
            JOIN
         DUMMY1 dst
              ON
                  src.batch_id = dst.batch_id
              AND src.catalog_name = dst.catalog_name
              AND src.data_source = dst.data_source
         WHERE
                   src.batch_id     = 1
              AND      src.catalog_name = '1'
                  AND      src.data_source  = '1'Now, I have created the same Tables ( DUMMY and DUMMY1 ) in Oracle :-
    CREATE TABLE DUMMY
         CLIENT_ID                                             NUMBER(5),
         NME                                                      VARCHAR2(80),
         BATCH_ID                                             NUMBER(10),
         CATALOG_NAME                                  VARCHAR2(50),
         DATA_SOURCE                                     VARCHAR2(50)
)I have written a Delete statement to mimic the fucntionality in this manner :-
    DELETE FROM
              DUMMY
    WHERE
                   client_id,
                   nme,
                   batch_id,
                   catalog_name,
                   data_source
              IN
                   SELECT *
                   FROM
                        DUMMY  src
                                           JOIN
                        DUMMY1  dst
                             ON
                                  src.batch_id = dst.batch_id
                             AND      src.catalog_name = dst.catalog_name
                             AND      src.data_source = dst.data_source
                        WHERE
                                  src.batch_id = 1
                             AND      src.catalog_name= '1'
                             AND      src.data_source = '1'
)However, I keep getting this error whe I try to test it :-
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 89:
    PL/SQL: ORA-00913: too many values
Can you please help me modify the query to simulate the same functionality as the orignial SQL Server Query ?
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

There is probably a mismatch between the number of columns.
Try this * Not Tested *
    DELETE FROM
              DUMMY
    WHERE
                   client_id,
                   nme,
                   batch_id,
                   catalog_name,
                   data_source
              IN
                   SELECT      src.client_id,
                   src.nme,
                   src.batch_id,
                   src.catalog_name,
                   src.data_source
                   FROM
                        DUMMY  src
                                           JOIN
                        DUMMY1  dst
                             ON
                                  src.batch_id = dst.batch_id
                             AND      src.catalog_name = dst.catalog_name
                             AND      src.data_source = dst.data_source
                        WHERE
                                  src.batch_id = 1
                             AND      src.catalog_name= '1'
                             AND      src.data_source = '1'

  • Migrating Sybase "timestamp" data type to Oracle DB

    Hi,
We are migrating huge Application currently running on Sybase database
to Oracle 10.2.0.3 (500+ Tables and Stored Procedures).
Have following questions regarding this Migration.
    1) Many of the Sybase Tables have column which is of Sybase data type "timestamp".
Do you have any recommendation what is the data type to be used in Oracle for
migrating "timestamp" data type in Sybase?
    2) How should we migrate existing data and business logic residing in Sybase for
data columns of Sybase data type "timestamp" ?
Given below are details on how we use Sybase timestamp Column in our Application
and we are trying to arrive at the best Solution that is possible for migrating
all those Tables and related business logic to Oracle.
We have following Control Table in Sybase which has column of timestamp data type and
    some other Business keys.
sp_help EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP (This is similar to desc <table> command in Oracle)
    EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP,dbo,user table
    default,Nov 14 2001 10:39AM
    CRE_TIMESTAMP ,timestamp,8,,,0,,,,0
    REF_NUM ,char,30,,,0,,,,0
    REC_UPD_DT ,datetime,8,,,1,,,,0
    EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMPI1,clustered, unique located on default, CRE_TIMESTAMP, REF_NUM, REC_UPD_DT,0,0,0,
Following is the overall logic used in Sybase
-- Step 1: Based on Event, populate Control Table with new Row.
-- CRE_TIMESTAMP timestamp Column gets auto-populated by Sybase
    insert EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP (REF_NUM, REC_UPD_DT)
    values (@uuid_ref_num, @event_cre_dt)
Since CRE_TIMESTAMP is auto-populated, it does not appear in above INSERT statement.
-- Step 2: Store timestamp value populated by Sybase in previous step,
-- to variable @event_timestamp. This value would be referenced
-- later in other SQL statements
    select @event_timestamp = CRE_TIMESTAMP
    from EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP
    where REF_NUM = @uuid_ref_num
    and REC_UPD_DT = @event_cre_dt
-- Sample value for @event_timestamp could be '001c0000182f2089'
-- It is not very readable or understandable
-- Step 3: Delete Control Table entry made in Step 1
    delete EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP from EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP
    where CRE_TIMESTAMP = @event_timestamp
-- Step 4: Make use of saved timestamp value from Step 2 to trigger queries
-- against other Tables that have timestamp Columns
-- Some sample queries are as shown below
    delete eqp_staging
    where event_timestamp > @event_timestamp;
    insert into eqp_movement values(@event_timestamp, ......other columns) ;
Any idea how above Table and logic could be migrated to Oracle DB
We would also like to know how data values that currently exist
in Sybase Tables should be populated in Oracle .
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Auroprem

    Hi All,
    Thanks for your responses.
We have decided on Solution to migrate "timestamp" Column from Sybase to Oracle, that is
    specific to our Application needs.
    Following is what we decided:
    1) Create RAW Column in Oracle which would contain data Replicated from Sybase "timestamp" Column as is.
    2) Create additional Column of INTEGER data type to store number equivalent of Sybase "timestamp" column
which would be more usable and consummable in Oracle as compared to RAW datatype.
    3) Write Row-Level INSERT/UPDATE Trigger on migrated Oracle Table to populate INTEGER Column using
    SQL Function TO_NUMBER(<raw_column_value>, 'xxxxxxxx').
    4) Applications that access this Table, upon migration to Oracle, will now start referencing INTEGER Column
newly defined, and populated via Trigger.
Please let us know if you see any issues with this approach
    Thanks

I'm trying to migrate a Sql Server 2k database to an Oracle 8i schema using OMWB. After using BCP to collect metadata information on the source database, I tried to capture the source data model and got a "Capture aborted" message on the progress screen (even though then it appears a dialog window reporting "0 errors and 0 warnings", funny!). • Migrate From MS Access 2003 to Oracle using Oracle SQL Developer 3.0

    Hello All,
I am trying to migrate Access DB .mdb using the Oracle SQL Dev 3.0 Data Migration Wizard, everything go very nice and smooth until the Capture Step, for sure am using the online mode, in the Capture Step the list of available databases is empty and a Msg Box saying that the DB list should have at leats one database selected, so I don't know what's that mean or how to fix this.
in my .mdb file I have four tables and I can copy the data to Oracle using the Right click and copy to Oracle Function, but it really takes much time.
Any help would be really appreciated and thanks in advance.
    yours,
    Hussein

    Just to clarify:
You have created the migration repository and start the migration using Tools => Migration => Migrate
    - now you've selected the repositiry
    - specified a project
    - selected the source database
=> you've choosen the ONLINE Mode
==>> and now you don't see your MS Access database in the "Connection" List
    Is this correct?
If the steps you're doing match the steps I've posted above, then please be aware for MS Access migrations you need to choose the OFFLINE method. The MS Access source database information is collected by the MS Access Exporter available from Tools => Migration => MS Access Exporter
Once you've created the XML/OCP file you specify this newly created file during the OFFLINE migration mode.
If your steps differ from mine, please post yours more detailed.
    Thx.

  • Getting data stored in ref cursor ( got from store proc in oracle) to excel sheet)

Hey, I am trying to Get data stored in ref cursor ( got from store proc in oracle) to excel sheet in a virtual folder using ssis.
I am getting errors and cant do it. If anyone can help me

    Hi Nabin000,
The Oracle stored procedure doesn't work with SSIS source adapters such as OLE DB Source because the data provider doesn't provide metadata for the source adapter. To achieve your goal, you can use a Script Component as source to call
the Oracle stored procedure by using System.Data.OracleClient OracleDataReader, and get the rows and add them to the pipeline buffer. For more information, please see:

  • Migration from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Dear buddies,
I need to migrate my tables with data from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g. How can I do it in the best possible way?
    Please guide me.
    Nith

    Nith,
I doubt if there is one best practice that can cover all cases of migrating data from sql server to Oracle. l generally find various factors case-by-case that make me chose one approach over the other. Without considering the business case and environment specific factors, some of the things I would like to know would be: The data types of the tables columns, table sizes, number of tables and if this is a one time process or a recurring process.
One of the easiest (some times rather pesky) process would be:
-Dump source data (Sql Server data) into flat files, csv or any preferred format
-Setup a set of staging set of tables in the destination DB (Oracle in your case). You can setup the stage tables to enforce data-types, value sets and even some level of integrity constraints or any data logic or what ever you would like to filter out. Load the flat file data into a set of Oracle stage tables (Sql*Loader would be a good candidate)
-You can always move data from these stage tables to you application tables
You can script this whole process to run as batch or on demand or how ever you would like.
I am sure you can google and find a bunch of proprietary as well as open source tools to do the same with little to a lot of work.
    good luck!

  • Migration from SQL SERVER 2008 to Oracle 10g issues.

    Hi ,
I'm trying to migrate from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 10g and I end up with some issues that I wanted to ask some info about it.
First, I was following a tutorial
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/hol08/sqldev_migration/mssqlserver/migrate_microsoft_sqlserver_otn.htm
and and in the last version of Oracle SQL developer I downloaded, I didn't find the Load Database Capture Script Output option.
My first question is how can I either add this option or is there a new way to load the capture script ?
Then I use the migration wizard and after following everything, I had the migration complete message from the application.
When I tried to open my connectionss, it tells me version 11.2 is required. Does that mean that Oracle SQL developper 3 only
do the migration for oracle 11g? And if I tried the previous versions, it doesn't support SQL server 2008.
What do I do in this case ?
    Thanks !

    Thank you for your reply.
After using the wizard and made the offline migration script, in the Migration projects window I made a move data to the oracle connection I previously made and after when I tried to reopen the connection, I couldn't.
Well I didn't retry it yet to see if I'll have the same behavior but basically this is what I think I did. When I tried to open the connection I made, it says, Oracle 11.2 is required.
Now, I just generate target from the convert model and it says migration complete but how do I test it and I do I go to oracle and see change ?
Do I had to create a special user in SQL Server to log to it first ? How do I logon to it ?

  • Migration from Informix 9.4 to Oracle 10g

We have to perform a migration from Informix 9.4 to Oracle 10g. Many tables, many data and many stored procs.
We use the Online mode and the imports finish with any errors, but it has not recovered any stored procedures or we can't view the Informix Stored Procedures in the Source Model in the workbench.
In the importation log appears as no found procedures, but under owner informix are all procedures.
    What we can do?

In the 10.1.0.4 version of the workbench we create an informix user who will have all the stored procedures.
If you want these migrated as another user you can right click on the user in the oracle model and rename it for a start.
If this is a large migration, I would recommend the following.
    1. generate the ddl for the oracle database.
    2. for the users, that will be created, move the objects to the users that you want these in.
    3. Make sure that the privileges that a particular user has is appropriate to use the data and execute the stored procedures if necessary.
This tool is not just a one shot deal.. It will bring the informix db over to Oracle, but you need to verify the structure and the logic of the stored procedures as being correct.

  • Migrating table from Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g

    Hi ,
We have a situation where we have to migrate multiple Sybase databases to Oracle10g . These multiple database have same set of tables but different data in these tables on each sybase database ( data differ, based on location or region wise but same table name and structure). We want to migrate all these sybase database to Oracle 10g and in single database, which involves inserting data from multiple tables ( though they exist on different database in sybase) into single Oracle table.
for example if we have a table 'TESTK' that exist on five different sybase database but with different region wise data. I want to bring data from these five tables( Five as they exist in five differet sybase databases) and insert them into a single oracle table 'TESTK' .
Have anybody ever face such scenerio , what are all possible approch please suggest. Once data is inserted into oracle table i need to partitioned this oracle table as well.

It is not quite clear whether you have multiple tables (referencing each other) in multiple sybase databases or either one table or several non connected tables in multiple sybase databases.
In the first case of course your task is harder because you need to keep references and most probably you cannot blindly copy data from db 1, db 2 and unite them because they can have the same id's coming from different sources.
In the second case your task of course is much easier you can simply load all your data in Oracle tables either using some interim tables (if you need to filter out duplicates) or load data straight into target tables if you are sure you haven't duplicates.
Also another question in case 1 is whether intersection of your data is 0 rows i.e. all data are completely different in each source db or not.
So I'm sure you can find tools for blindly moving data from sybase to Oracle, although if you need to do some more complex filtering, computation or whatever you most probably need to write it yourself.
I'v done a few data conversion projects from one schema to another and as the requirements were quite complex the only possibility for us was to initiate a separate data conversion project and create conversion software (pl/sql packages manually).
