Migration Complete - SQL Server 2000 - But I Have a Question - Please Help

I just ran the Oracle Migration workbench and converted a SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 8i. I did get a few errors and warnings, all from the stored procedures. Which I will correct manually. However, when I log into DBA Studio, I can see the new tablespace for my converted database under storage. But theres nothing under the schema. Do I have to create this in order to manipulate the database. I wanna be able to modify some of the tables and stored procedures, but all I see in DBA Studio is the tabelspace for the converted database.

If your migration was sucessfull, then the schema's would also have been created on the target Oracle environment. You can go back to the Workbench and check the oracle model, to determine what schema(s) would be created. You can also check the log, or run a report to determine any errors during the migration phase.

I am a newbie to Oracle 10g and haven't really worked with Oracle since 8i. I have been tasked to migrate all of our databases and tables to Oracle 10g. I need a little help getting started or pointed in the right direction on how to copy all that data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g. I know that Oracle has an Import/Export Utility, but don't know if it can do what I need. Can some one help point me in the direction I need?

You need to download both the Oracle Migration Workbench core tool and the SQL Server 2000 plugin (SQLserver2k.jar). You copy the plugin into the plugin directory, after you unzip the Oracle Migration workbench main.
The tool comes with release notes and a user guide, that explains the necessary setup and migration process.

The Oracle Migration Workbench creates scripts using Microsofts bcp to export the data from Sqlserver and Oracle sqlldr to import the data into Oracle. You can use these tools but the Oracle Migration Workbench plugin for SQL Server 2000 is not available or even in development (yet).

SQL server does not have any version named SQL server 2003 please check the version correctly it should be either SQL 2005,2008,2008 R2,2012
You can use the backup/restore to upgrade the SQL 2000 database to till SQL 2005,2008,2008R2
For SQL Server 2000 to 2012
First upgrade from SQL 2000 database to either SQL 2005, 2008 or 2008R2 and than upgrade it to SQL 2012.

You can upgrade from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012.

Inbox empty but I have 14000 messages please help

I've had problems sending mail via yahoo on my macbook pro. I solved the problem by deleting the account and then reinstalling it. Mail activity says that my old messages are being downloads (currently 4238 of 14000) but the messages arent' going in to my inbox. I'm not sure where they are being restored to. Can anyone please help me restore them to my inbox. Thanks

it seems like you are trying to perform a DDL from within the PL/SQL code, which is not allowed directly.
You could use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE within your pl/sql code to perform a DDL statement.

The Error messages shows "non-static variable text cannot be referenced from a static context".
I think the reason is "the text is not static variable so I have to create an instance of the class(LessonTwoA)",right?

public void static main(String[] args) is a static method, which means that it can only reference variables that belong to the class - i.e. static variables. Generally main is used to run an application and so should not have access to one particular objects instance variables.

We are plannig to migrate the SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g. I have following queries.
1. Does the Oracle SQL Developer tool is the one that to be used? (Previously OWMB used to support SQL Server 2000, but it is no longer supporting.)
2. When I tried to migrate using Oracle SQL Developer tool, there were some errors for @@spid and the tool did go further?
3. In OMWB it used to provide the details like how many DB objects migrated successfully and how many failed, how to generate similar reports in Oracle SQL Developer?

Trying to migrate SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g.

Hi.
I´m trying to migrate from Sql Server 2000 to Oracle 10g and I got some troubles.
I have connected both databases with my Oracle Sql Server, after that I went to the Menu--> Migrate--> Fast Migration and then fill all the steps necesary.
I can see the repository`s table at the oracle schema but after that the Sql Developer hang at the point "capture". I let the tool work for 2 hours and nothing to do. It´s not a hughe db so could be done faster.
May I miss something?.

I also have similar issue when trying to migrate from MS SQL 2005 to oracle 10g.
I use the SQL Developer Version 2.1.0.63.
First, I tried to use 'Quick Migration' then it created repository then stop there with error message
"Error ocurred during capture: ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("DDHCOWNER"."MD_PROJECTS"."ID")"
Then, try manual way to capture SQL server, but some how it doesn't work. It just refresh IDE and stop.
Before this activity, I tried to migrate MS SQL 2005 using 'Quick Migration' and it works. But this time I have to do it on another DB then this happened.
So I re-try the previous connection then encountered the same to all.
Thus, please kindly help to advice how to solve this problem.

Where to download the SQL Server 2000 plug-in for Migration Workbench

Dear All,
I am new to Migration WorkBench, I want to migrate the SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 9i. When i start the Migration WorkBench, it requires me to select the plug-in (SQL Server) for the migration source. Before i have download and install the Access plug-in for testing. Can anybody tell me where i can find the SQL Server 2000 Plug-in for migration workbench.

Problem with migrating data (SQL Server 2k offline data capture)

I try to migrate a SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 10g (R2) using offline data capture. I following the online Tutorial “Migrate from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle Database 10g Using Oracle Migration Workbench” and everything seems OK until “Migrating the tablespaces, users and user tables to the destination database” http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t5. I have two errors on 2 (out of 85 ) tables saying “ Failed to create default for Table :
ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis”. I checked the column/table names and they seems OK. I don’t understand why I got these errors. However, when I checked the ‘SA’ Schema in Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, I can see all the tables (including the two problem ones).
I then carry on to the next step and tried to migrate data to the destination database (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t6) I am now stuck on step 5. “…copy the files from c:\omwb\data_files to the c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle directory…” I cannot find the ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ directory, in fact, I don’t have a directory called ‘data_files’ on my machine. I noticed the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory contains the all the 85 [tableName].ctl files (plus two other files: ‘sql_load_script’ and ‘sql_load_script.sh’). From the screenshots online, ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ seems contains files with the same name as the [tableName]. Therefore, I did a search with [tableName] but cannot find any apart from the [tableName].ctl file in the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory. What should I do next?

Sorry, I am new here. Could you please tell me (or point me to the related documents about) how to output the Oracle model as a script?Action-> Generate Migration Scripts
And what do you mean by ‘The default conversion may have failed’? Do you mean data type mapping? I went through all the columns and tables and checked the data types in the Oracle model already. The processing for the default for a table column could have something the basic workbench default parser cannot handle.
I hope you are finding the workbench to be a productive aid to migration.

Query Locks Table in SQL Server 2000!!

Hi all!
I am facing a strange problem. I am using MS SQL Server 2000.
I have a JDBC program.It executes a query on a table (STUDENT) and fetches some record from it.
The query gets executed fine for the first time but when the SELECT query is executed on the same table (i.e. STUDENT) from some other block of code within the same program the program hangs at the location where resultset is pointed to the first record i.e. RS.next();
When I try to execute the SELECT query on the same table (i.e. STUDENT) from a query tool when the program is running it also gets hanged!!!
It seems that after running the query for the first time on the STUDENT table from the next time its getting hanged....i believe the Table gets locked for some reason!!
Is that normal with SQL Server 2000.....The same code works fine with other database!
Please suggest...wht has to b done to gt it fixed!

By default (transaction isolation level TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED ), SQL Server applies a shared read lock when you do a SELECT. This is should not prevent other selects on the same row / page but it will prevent updates / deletes.

How does it migrate Users with proper privileges from SQL Server to Oracle? Follow the interface steps? Or should the users be created on destination Oracle side?

Hi,
It depends which type of migration you are making.
For a 'Standard' migration when you migrate data a 'create user' statement is created as part of the migration and you will see this in the generated code.
If you are using the 'Quick' migration option then you need to create the Oracle user or use an existing user to receive the data.
Your best option is to review the documentation available from -

and then get back with specific questions if this does not give you the information you need.
