now i want to move this application to Red Hat appl server.
what problem will i face.
do i ve to make the changes in the web.xml and ejb-jar.xml which the sun studio genrates.
pls help me out.
lokesh

You mean using Sun App Server on Red Hat, right?
No need to change those two files.
You may want to run your app thru the AVK to check how
portable your app is (even across multiple App Servers):

  • Oracle 10gAS migration from Red Hat 4.0 SE to OEL 5.x

    Hello Folks,
I am planning to migrate my Oracle 10gAS R2 (10.1.2.3) Infrastructure Tier on Server A (Red Hat 4) and
Middle Tier(Forms, Report, Discoverer) on Server B (Red Hat 4)
to Server C (Oracle Linux 5.7) and Server D (Oracle Linux 5.7) respectably.
Is it possible to use $OH/clone.pl in order to migrate Middle Tier?
I know that Infrastructure cannot be officially cloned
Is there any way to clone the infrastructure tier? ( or fresh install?)
However this is a just planning and I do not have any previous experience with this kind of migration
Would you guys please be able to give me an advice?
    Any comments would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers,

What are the components you have in Infra ? If OID is installed in infra, thats not possible to clone. You would have to set up a new environment and copy users, groups, etc.
That's what I have done numerous time.
However, if you just have OC4J and OHS, you could think of cloning.

  • ORA-3115 occuring after migration to Oracle 11.1.0.6 on Red Hat

Our application has been running on Tru64 5.1b, Oracle v9 for years quite happily. Since migrating to Red Hat Linux, Oracle 11 we've encountering ORA-3115 errors sporadically from a Pro*C call.
Our C executable maintains a connection to the database. Once the 3115 error occurs it occurs on every query to the database from that executable (other processes continue OK, something with the connection?). Our proram uses Pro*c queries with dynamic binds.
There seems to be no pattern to the frequency with which the error occurs.
The offending bit of code is usually:
    EXEC SQL SELECT
    UPDATE_INHIBITED,
    LAST_UPDATE_TIME,
    TO_CHAR(LAST_LIVE_UPDATE, 'HH24:MI:SS DD-MM-YYYY'),
    LAST_TRANSACTION,
    LAST_TRANSACTION_DG
    INTO
    :sql_update_inhibited,
    :sql_last_update,
    :sql_last_operational_update,
    :sql_last_trans,
    :sql_last_trans_dg
    FROM SET_DETAILS
    WHERE SET_ID = :sql_set_id;
This code has been unchanged for years. The fact that it usually occurs here probably more because this is the first database call completed as part of a scheduled process.
This problem is having an operational impact (as the updates do not occur) and I really need to get a resoltuion before the Christmas break.
As I said we've just migrated to a new server. There may be configuation parameters that are not perfect. Any suggestions on what we could double check?
Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas how I can work around this?
    Thanks,
    Beck

    Hello all,
In our environment SAP is running with 4.7E with oracle database and we are planning to do a hardware migration and  Red Hat linux upgrade from 2.4 to 4
So the plan is such a way like that
    1. Taking backup from the live production system.
    2. Installing 4 red hat linux in the target machine and installing SAP as well.
    3. Restore the database and bringing up the system.
We are not following the method of Export / Import due to consideration of downtime.
I have been working in windows platform and have performed migrations and database migration but I am not aware of linux environment. What are the preparation do i need to do interms of linux upgrade / Migration.
    Kindly help me out
    Regards

  • Migration from sunsolarise10 to red hat for oracle 9i

    hello gurus

Before Oracle 10g, you are pretty much stuck with exp/imp option for Cross-platform migration.
Depends on the size of your database that could be very time consuming and downtime scheduling is big concern. Therefore some people was trying the replication and switch over route. But that's not very easy to setup and you need to have in-depth knowledge of the data and the application driven.
If you can upgrade to 10g, then you have option to use transportable tablespace which now support crossplatform migration. And you need to use RMAN to convert endianess of your datafiles.

  • Migration Directory server from Red Hat ES to Windows2003

    Hello!
I have to migrate from Directory Server 6.0 on Linux Red Hat ES to Directory Server 6.2 on Microsoft Windows 2003.
    Can I use dsmig utility?
    Thanks!

I don't think that dsmig will work as it was designed for migrating from 5.2 to 6.x
But I think you can do it mostly with DSCC.
Install the DSEE 6.2 binaries, configure the Console and register the 6.0 instance in it.
Then create the new DS 6.2 instance with cloning the configuration. Data will need to be exported from the 6.0 and reimported in the 6.2.

  • Migrate oracle 9iR2 database from Suse to Red Hat???

    Hi Everyone,
We're going to move an oracle 9iR2 database from Suse to Red Hat. At this moment I don't know the detail about the platforms yet. I still like to ask a question if DB backup on Suse is compatible on RedHat? Physical restoring may be our prefer instead of exp/imp.
    Any advices?
    Thanks,

I'm pretty sure (never did it myself) that there will be not problem when moving the database. The Oracle software is the same (at least when you use the x86 version) so
the format of the datafiles and controlfiles should be identical.
However some configuration files (network settings) might differ so try before you die :-)

  • Migrate 8163 on Sun to 920 on Unix Red Hat

My production database is currently running archive mode on Sun Solaris Sparc and is 8163. I have to move it to a new pair of servers running Unix Red Hat cluster and upgrade the database to 920.
I need your advices and expertise on the best way to do this with pros and cons.
    Thanks
    Lawrence

Thanks for that information.  I have not attempted to run my application on a desktop developer copy of CF 10.  That is a good suggestion.  I will try that.
A new related question has come up:
Can ColdFusion 10 run under a VIRTUALIZED instance of Linux?  This question assumes that CM 10 can run directly on “bare metal” that using a dedicated copy of Red Hat Linux.   We are considering running CM 10 in a Cloud server farm where the Red Hat would be virtualized.  Would that work?

  • Oracle Upgrade 8.1.7.4 to 10g in Red hat linux

    Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade our oracle database from 8i to 10g along with the Redhat linux upgrade from  2.4.9-e 27 ent to Red Hat Linux 5. In my study and also from Installation guides and oracle upgrade guides I made sure that its possible to upgrade our database from 8.1.7.4.
So I have planned the below options to do the same and not sure about the possibilities. If anyone have thoughts and idea on the same please suggest me.
We dont have plan to migrate the development hardware and the sap version is 4.7E
Option 1: Upgrade the Linux to 5 and then upgrading the database to 10g usign upgrade assistant tool
Option 2: Export the database using sapinst tool and then crashing the server. Installing linux5 and importing the database using sapinst tool.(I am aware this is not a good idea since there is no migration in hardware but it will be helpful in production since we are migrating the production system).
Option 3: Performing DBUA assistant in development and sapinst method in production.(helpful in disaster recovery)
Could you please suggest on the same?
    My query is that.
If i am performing oracle export from 8.1.7.4 and if i am import the same in oracle 10g using the sapinst tool. Will this work? or it will create a problem in table level. I am looking for answers for this Question. Kindly explain me on this.

  • How to Create Shared Storage using VM-Server 2.1 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

    Thanks in advance.
Describe in sequence how to create shared storage for a two guest/node Red Hat Linux Enterprise using Oracle 2.1 VM Server on Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 using command line or appropriate interface.
How to create Shared Storage using Oracle 2.1 VM Server?
How to configure Network for two node cluster (oracle clusterware)?

    Hi Suresh Kumar,
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2, Patch Set 3 (10.1.2.3) is required to be fully certified on OEL 5.x or RHEL 5.x.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 10.1.2.0.0 or 10.1.2.0.1 versions are not supported with Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5.0 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.0. It is recommended that version 10.1.2.0.2 be obtained and installed.
Which implies Oracle AS 10.1.2.x is some what certified on RHEL 5.x
I think it would be better if you get in touch with Oracle Support regarding this .
Sorry , I am not aware of any document on migration from Sun Solaris to RH Linux 5.2 .
    Thanks,

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite and Oracle RAC

    HI Guys,
Our boss will plan to configure Red Hat Cluster Suite to replace to update oracle RAC.
Are there some experienced expert to explain advantage and risk of Red Hat Cluster Suite v Oracle RAC 11.2
    Thanks
    Jin

    Hi,
first of all Red Hat Cluster Suite cannot replace the RAC functionality. RAC is database Red Hat Cluster Suite, just provides clusterware. So all with what you will end up is a plain old failover cluster solution.
So in maximum Red Hat Cluster Suite can replace the Oracle Clusterware. (But not below a RAC, since this is not supported and even with integration with other clusterware Oracle Clusterware will still be there).
So what he will end up is also replacing RAC with single instance databases in a failover cluster solution, and with this will decrease a lot of RAC capabilities:
=> Rolling Upgrade (OS / Clusterware and some database patches)
    => Storage migration/consolidation
=> Fast failover (30 seconds vs. minutes).
See www.oracle.com and you will find whitepapers with differences between failover clusters and RAC.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/failover-cluster-134770.pdf
But even if there are other justifications to reduce availablity (which actually can only be costs), I still wonder, why he wants to replace Oracle Clusterware - the clusterware shipped with Oracle is far more mature than the one from the Red Hat cluster Suite.
And there is no better integration for Oracle databases in clusterware than what Oracle clusterware can provide.
Even more so, OCW is a full capable clusterware and you can build your own failover cluster solution for free.
The same would have to be done if he replaces it with redhat cluster.
PS: If someone is providing failover scripts for Oracle in Redhat clusters, it will be Redhat (but I think you have to write them yourself).

    Sebastian

    Richard,
It's a glib problem. 8i uses the glib 2.1 libraries, while RH7 uses the 2.2. There is a patch available from oracle support, or you can find a solution that has worked for me twice on the otn discussion forum.
