Mirrored backup on external HDD fails

Hi all,
We have attached a HSB drive to server. When we backup on local drive and USB drive at the same time (mirrored backup) the following error is returned:
Executed as user: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. The mirror device "G:\New_Backups\Automation\Automation_2014-09-03.bak" and the mirror device "I:\New_Backups\Automation\Automation_2014-09-03.bak" have different device specifications. [SQLSTATE
42000] (Error 3212)  BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013).  The step failed.
What's wrong with my SQL Server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Leila

Hi Leila,
Mirroring applies both to disk and tape (disks do not support continuation tapes). As in earlier versions of SQL
Server, all backup devices for a single backup or restore operation must be of the same type, disk or tape. Within these broader classes, you must use
similar devices that have the same properties. Insufficiently similar devices generate an error message (3212).
To avoid the risk of a device mismatch, use devices that are equivalent, such as, only drives with the same model
number from the same manufacturer.

  • External HDD Fails to be Mounted

What can I do when an external HDD fails to be mounted? It's still spinning.

(My cat just landed on my computer desk) I mean this drive holds my entire 3000-song iTunes and my 2002-2007 iPhoto libraries. I was trying to deal with a difficult system problem and finally had to back up everything and reinstall OS X. Now that this 500GB drive alone has my iTunes and iPhoto libraries I must retrieve the data somehow. Personally invaluable assets. Otherwise I would just wipe the slate clean.

  • X1 Carbon Preload Windows 7-64bit failed to create 1st backup to external HDD

    Hi everyone!
I using X1c with Preload Win7 Pro 64bit from Lenovo. I failed to create backup in "C" drive and also in external HDD. After I run the backup process, data will copy to "Z" drive (about 1.76GB), then its will try to copy to my external HDD,then occur an error. i'll try to post the error msg soon.
    Any users got same error?

    Hi, Anonymous77
How exactly are you trying to create the backup? If you navigate to Control Panel, there should be an option called "Recovery." If you select this, Windows should walk you through the steps and correct procedure to create a backup. Have you tried this route? Also, please post the exact error message you received when you get a chance.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

  • Problems with creating a Time Machine backup on external HDD

    Hello!
I tried to make a new Time Machine backup file on my external harddrive today.
Unfortunately it stopt after about 6 or 7 gb with the popup:
''the backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. The problem may be temporary.  Try again later to back up.  If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk''
I'm certain that the HDD (Western Digital 1Tb) was correctly formatted (Mac Os Extended (Journaled)). It's the same type as my internal harddrive.
I also have a Time Machine Buddy logfile. Maybe that will help in finding the problem.
Also noticable is that after the backup failure, I can't seem to restore or format the external HDD. Once I connect it to a regular pcc and remove and reinstall the driver, I can use it again.
here is the logfile from the latest backup try:

  • Time machine backup from external hdd to time capsule

Is it possible to transfer an time machine backup from an external hdd to a time capsule? I have changed the original 2tb time capsule hdd to a 3tb hdd because of loud sounds from the 2tb hdd. Now i want to transfer the backup from the (now external) 2tb hdd to the new 3tb hdd which is now in the time capsule. Could anybody help me?

Yes, it should be easy.. just copy the sparsebundle from the old 2TB plugged into your computer to the TC.
This will take a few hours maybe a lot more if the drive is near full.. use ethernet.. do not even dream of using wireless.. Do not plug the 2TB into the TC USB.. that is super slow.. plugged into your computer with a FW hard disk holder would be the ideal.. but USB is ok.
    http://pondini.org/TM/18.html
    Is it worth it??
Saving old backups.. or simply start again.. a clean fresh backup is much more efficient. Put the 2TB drive in a draw.. if you haven't needed any files on it in 6months from now.. wipe it.

  • DB2 / Red Hat 5 : Backup to External Storage Failed

    Dear gurus,
    I've SAP ECC 6 running on DB2 9.7 FP2, RHEL 5.0
We can backup to internal disk, but when configuring backup to external storage (Maxtor Shared Storage II), there's this error.
I mount the external storage using cifs, with correct owner and permission (db2<sid> :  db<sid>adm with 777 permission.)
The shared storage is: //192.168.1.8/mhp with mount point /mnt/mhp
When I backup using DB13 to /mnt/mhp, the file is created and the size continually grows constantly.
But when the backup is about to finish, the file then disappears, and DB13 returns "Database backup failed"
I see the db2diag.log, and here's the entry:
    [db2diag.log|http://snipt.org/pYx/]
The message is not too clear for me.
Does anyone happen to come across the same problem as me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards,

    Dear gurus,
If it is plain file like copy / move command to the storage, it can be done successfully.
I can also 'touch filename1' there. But for DB13 or DB2 backup command, it failed.
Markus, there's no particular technical things. We just choose cifs.
I've tried NFS but it said things like "Connection Refused" when I tried to mount -a.
I've tried also in different server, and it actually give the same result. So I think it's not SAMBA.
May I know what you mean by mapping the user?
I can make shared folder in the maxtore webgui management, and create user to own that folder.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards,

Can I use iTunes or do I just use the backup utility that cam with the device and point to my library?

I just installed a new HDD and RAM in my mid-09 MBP. When I try and restore from a time machine backup on an external drive, I only get the option to install it on the other partition on that drive - my new internal drive doesn't even appear as an option. • Transferring iphone backup to external HDD without iPhone

    Hi Everyone,
I lost my iphone in the southern ocean recently!  It was quite a catastophy. Anyway, I made an iphone backup through iTunes before I went on the infamous holiday where I lost my phone.
My problem is:  I have not yet aquired a new iphone and I need to wipe my laptop's hard drive in order to install a fresh version of windows 7.  So essentially I want to move my entire backup somewhere and then plop it back into a fresh installation of iTunes to have it ready for when I replace the phone.
I'm just not entirely sure which directories to copy and what will and will not be restored.  It seems after doing a bit of reading that the C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync is one of the directories that I need to save, and also the C:\Users\user\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications is where all the apps I've purchased are kept.  But I am wondering if there is a bit more to it than that, a lot of the tutorials on phone restore are for people who still have their phones with them.
If anyone has done this or knows all the directories and files I need to backup you help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dean
PS - One options I did think of trying was using my girlfriends 3Gs, backing her phone up, restoring my backup on her phone, saving my backup to an external drive and then restoring her backup onto her phone.

The only other thing I can think of is your iTunes folder. That contains all of your music files. This support document tells you where backup files are stored, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946, and this one talks about moving your music to a new computer, and actually addresses the use of an external drive http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • Transfer backup to External HDD

    Hi,
Time Machine works fine, but we want to take it away from office with us in case of fire/theft.
If I just plug in a hard drive to the Time Machine and drag the sparsebundle files onto it, will that be enough?
    Thanks.
    Hugh

Doing what you suggest i.e. dragging the sparsebundle to another disk is sufficient to preserve the contents of the backups.
However, you can only restore directly from a sparsebundle when it's located on a Time Capsule or Airport Extreme disk.
There are methods floating around that claim to enable support of Time Machine operation (and consequently sparse bundles) on non-supported network drives.
It is also possible to "extract" the actual backups contained within a sparsebundle onto a disk in the form that is used by Time Machine on locally attached (internal or directly attached USB/Firewire disks. I have done this recently.
So a copy of the sparsebundle file is a good archive of your backups and can be used in several ways if the Time Capsule fails.

  • Automatic backup of external HDD to another one?

    Hi,
would you recommend me a software for this kind of backup?
    Thanks,Dali

Not quite the way it works... when you first create a clone using CCC, everything is cloned. Subsequent clones, though, only write and/or erase the data that has been changed since the last clone. So it doesn't copy everything all over again, just that which has changed since the last clone.
I use CCC to make clones of my internal drive and to clone my 2TB 'working' drive. After the initial clone, it's usually only a matter of 15-20 minutes to update the data. Unlike Time Machine, CCC simply creates exact copies of your drives and it's just one part of my backup schemes. I rotate 5 drives for my internal and just keep my working drive and my clone of it synchronized.

  • Backup to External HDD

    Is it possible?

I was looking at the backup option on the itunes menu, but it appears to only allow backup to cds (rather limiting/stupid, imo). I just want to protect my music in case of a hard drive failure, since I have more music than ipod space. I knew I could do a copy/paste, but that doesnt always mean the pasted files are useable, many programs add to the archive at the end of the file to mark it as a copy, and render it useless. I didn't know if iTunes did this, but they do seem to be over-protective/reactive, I often have to restore my ipod & reauthorize my computer since it arbitrarily decides music I bought is no longer legit.

  • Does Time Machine backup External HDDs?

Hello everyone, I plan to use a Mac-Mini as an HTPC, and want to use a large external HDD connected DIRECTLY to the mini as my storage (call it HDD-A).
If I connect a second external HDD dedicated for TM (HDD-B), will it backup content from HDD-A as well as the OS?
Q2: Are there any special settings in TM necessary to accomplish this?
Q3: Separate TM question: Anyway to get TM to backup an External HDD that's connected to an AEBS?
    Thanks much in advance!

I am in the same situation, riesar. I have 2 time-machine-enabled macs connected to a 500GB Time Capsule. My Mac Pro has 4 drives (boot, bootClone, Video Archive, Video Archive Clone) I use Time Machine to backup my Main boot drive, with a couple of exclusions including all other HD's. I excluded my Parallels folder since Each windows installation is about 10GB and the ENTIRE file changes each time you open your virtual PC. I also exclude my parallels installation from my iMac Time Machine file as well.
Every couple of days, My Boot drive clones itself (using SuperDuper!) to the BootClone and the Video Drive clones itself to the Video Clone. I don't have incremental backups of my video (or Windows installation) but I save SIGNIFICANT space by excluding certain things from time machine. My iMac clones itself to an external firewire drive as well.
If you were REALLY cramped for space on the Time Machine volume, you could simply include only - say - the User folder. You'd sacrifice the ability to restore your system to a previous state, but you'd have incremental backups of all your regularly changing data files. Your clone could restore your system, but if you ever had to restore your system, your recovery is only as good as you last clone. YMMV.

  • Restoring an external hdd?

I use TM+AEBSn to backup an external hdd connected to my MBP. If that external hdd fails and I buy a new one, how do I go about restoring it through TM on the new external hdd? Is it as easy as Entering Time Machine, selecting all relevant files and folders from the external hdd and clicking Restore? Or do I just have to find the drive icon itself and click Restore?

I'm a bit confused. You are asking about Restoring your Time Machine backup. If your TM backup fails, there is nothing left of your backup. If you get a new external HDD, you need to start a new TM backup.

  • Best external HDD to do FCPX work on

I am considering buying the G-Tech 1TB G-Drive Mobile (w/thunderbolt), that Apple sells on its website, to use to do FCPX projects on. I currently have a Segate Backup Plus External HDD, but I am concerened that it is not a good drive to use to do FCPX projects on, because it is a "backup" drive meant mostly for Time Machine.
I plan to use the external drive to work off of instead of the internal drive in my MacBook Pro.
If you have any advice or suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm with Alchroma. It pays to stretch your money (debt.)
    I made the investment in a 4TB Gtech RAID (w/ Thunderbolt thru-put.)
Speed is great. I don't have to worry about space issues for the largest of projects. And the RAID option lets me "mirror."
BTW: when you go to "backup" projects and media, its best to invest in slower, cheaper drives. In this case, speed is not an issue. All you need is reserve space.
