Missing application web.xml

hi,
tomcat loads my application but then does not recognise the web.xml file i have placed in WEB-INF folder of my application, resulting in:
missing application web.xml, using defaults only.
can anyone tell me how to go about resolving this.
Cheers,
dswill

If you are using the application which uses web.xml data then if your application is getting loaded then that means that it is using your web.xml.
But you r saying that it is using some defaults. so please check whether there is some comments continued and not allowed to using your tags.ie., whether our code is commented.

  • Missing sun-web.xml

    Starting yesterday, when I export a war file for my project, the sun-web.xml file is missing from the exported war file. I need to manually pack the sun-web.xml file into the war file before deploy it to the App server. Any idea why this is happening and how to avoid it?

    Hi
    The reason behind missing sun-web.xml when you "Export War" is to create a war file that should be portable across different containers.
    If it includes container specific DD (sun-web.xml for ex. AS8 PE) when you "Export War" then it causes problems when you deploy this war file to a different container (for ex S1WS 6.x ) which uses the same name for its DD but with different contents.
    Hope this explains why sun-web.xml was not included in war file.
    Thanks

  • How to configure ADF application to use OAM Identity Assertion ? web.xml

    We have a web application developed using ADF (application development framework) and deployed on WebCenter 11.1.1.2 (weblogic 10.3.2)
    OID Authentication and OAM identity assertion is configured in WebLogic 10.3.2 .
    How to configure security in ADF application (web.xml or weblogic.xml) so that it uses OAM identity assertion (already configured as authentication providers in weblogic server)
    Any pointers or documentation so that application (developed using ADF) check for identity tocken and verifies it with one of identity assertion providers.

    John,
    I have to concur. With OAM you don't need this. OAM intercepts the calls and inserts a cookie for WLS to get user information from.
    I strongly advise to go through the above mention OFM Security Guide. Esp. Chapter 10 tells you in every detail how to implement OAM SSO with WLS (with or without OHS as a proxy).
    Reading this chapter saves you time and turnarounds on this topic...

    If nothing else, why not just have your servlet load a configuration file on startup?

  • Forte & web.xml problem

    Hi there,
    I hope what I have is a simple problem to fix. I'm running Forte For Java 4 and developing a web application. When I run a servlet (although it works fine) I am getting a run-time error:
    ContextConfig[] Configuration error in application web.xml
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Servlet mapping specifies an unknown servlet name ChooseUnit
    This has something to do with the fact that I renamed one of my servlets and it didn't update web.xml (when I ran this servlet, it kept trying to use the servlet's old name in the URL). I went into web.xml and added this servlet's new name manually but it still didn't work, so I deleted the offending servlet, making sure that its servlet mappings were also gone from web.xml.
    I then made a new servlet of a different name, and every time I run it I get the above error, even though the servlet name in the error no longer exists, nor any reference to it in web.xml.
    Anyone got a suggestion as to how to fix this? It seems to be a bug particular to Forte.
    Thanks.
    Gillian Klee

    Never mind, it seems to have sorted itself out with a reboot.

  • Web.xml parse error

    Hi all,
    I'm new to Tomcat and Servlets and have just tried to write my first web app. After carefully placing everything in the correct directories and spending hours trying to figure out how to write my web.xml, I continue getting 404 errors when I try to navigate to the webapp. I looked through my logs and found that I'm getting a severe error when opening tomcat that prevents the webapp from loading. Apparently I'm getting a parse error in my web.xml file and it's throwing a premature end of file exception that looks like this:
    SEVERE: Parse error in application web.xml file at jndi:/localhost/ServletImageGallery/WEB-INF/web.xml
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file.
    SEVERE: Occurred at line 3 column 1I really have no idea how to correct this. Here is my web.xml file for reference:

    It looks like according to the http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd , he is correct, this is the first dtd, I have been able to download, thay usally do not exist, when you try to follow the URL, this sets up the order of the attributes.

  • Processing web.xml -Adding servlet

    Can you please give me an out line how to add servlets/filters/session-configs to web.xml programatically.
    I have writen a program for adding these but In web.xml the order in which elements are placed matters. So right now in the program I specify that I should add this element before another specified element like that .
    How can we make this generic ? I mean how I can maintain the same order as of DTD ?
    please help me.

    Answering your original question. Yes it is possible to have a web.xml without servlet classes, if you are not using servlet classes.

    MalaiIt looks like there may be BOM characters (invisible in regular editors), before the opening angle bracket of the XML prolog: <?xml version="1.0"
    The special characters usually are inserted by some editors such as Notepad.
    You can download a free Hex editor, like Cygnus hex editor and see if you have the 3 special characters (in Hex) appearing before the XML prolog.
    If you see anything before the prolog delete them, save the web.xml file and re-test it.

  • Client-cert auth impl in web.xml does not work in Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
    I am new to implementing security features on the web applications.. I have developed a new web service using jdev1012 and deployed in OAS 10.1.2. Its working fine according to the business requirements, but I am in need of implementing client-cert authentication to enable the web service available to only those who have client certificate.
    My server details are:
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
    Server certificate is in place and SSL mode have been already enabled.. able to access my web service through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS as well able to see the WSDL file through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS?WSDL.
    I tried to include the following in my web.xml file as part of implementing CLIENT-CERT authentication.
    <security-constraint>
    <display-name>SecurityConstraint</display-name>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>WSCollection</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <user-data-constraint>
    <transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>CLIENT-CERT</auth-method>
    <realm-name>WSCollection</realm-name> <!-- am not sure about this realm-name and its purpose -->
    </login-config>
    It is not woking as expected, though I have restarted my oc4j container after including this content to the web.xml file. i.e, I am able to invoke the web service though my sample java client program, though I donot have client certificate/keystore.
    I believe I am missing something..Can anyone help me in this regard to implement CLIENT-CERT authentication successfully?
    Thanks,
    Ms

    I am having the same problem with doc and xsl. I have added this

    <extension>xls</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>

    <mime-mapping>

    <mime-type>application/msword</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    to my web.xml. I even restarted the server. I still see doc and xsl in binary.
    Is there some other setting that needs to take place?
    I am using WL6.1 with fixpack 1.
    I can see the doc and excel files in the browser if I don't go through the weblogic

    First off, the servlets do not redeployed properly after compilation. Any

    back up. What am I doing wrong with this??
    Second, weblogic.httpd.indexDirectories should not allow directory browse ..
    but it still does for this app. Am I missing something else?
    Third, JSP configuration that specifies where a directory is supposed to be
    compiled is useless cuz' it's always compiled in tmpwar dir, which is
    dynamically created if not already there. Should I add something else to
    this???
    Fourth, weblogic.httpd.documentRoot should allow me to just type in a URL,
    such as http://relyon1:7001/Kermit, and it should redirect to a
    file(specified by welcome-file-list tag) under the directory
    web(/weblogic/Kermit/web). However, it's not doing it.
    From the documentation that I've read, this should have been very siimple
    but it's not working the way the docs have it made it out be.... am I
    missing anything else??
    Please help.

    Currently we only officially support ADF 11g deployment to WebLogic.
    There is at least one report of someone running this on Tomcat here:
    JDev 11.1.1.1.0 + ADF+ BC4J application on Tomcat6
    Note that this will require you to have an ADF runtime license though.

  • Implementing client-cert auth in web.xml in Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
    I am new to implementing security features on the web applications..
    <security-constraint>
    <display-name>SecurityConstraint</display-name>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>WSCollection</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <user-data-constraint>
    <transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>CLIENT-CERT</auth-method>
    <realm-name>WSCollection</realm-name> <!-- am not sure about this realm-name and its purpose -->
    </login-config>
    Thanks,
    Ms

    Hello,
    You have different level of integration of SSO services in OC4J 10g (10.1.3).
    If you are using an LDAP server you can integrate that using the LDAP security provider and support SSO between applications. This is documented as part of the Identity Management Integration.
    Also in 10.1.3.0.0 you need to have at least an LDAP server (or bigger identity management solution) to do SSO.
    In 10.1.3.1.0, that should be available this summer, OC4J will have a new security service that will allow applications to be authenticated in a single sing-on fashion. (Stay tuned to the OTN forum we will publish a beta version very soon)

  • WEB.XML gives me an error while deploying a Web Application in Weblogic 5.1

    I have a Web.xml which I copied the one from their documentation and edited for my servlet specific data. When I try to deploy it I am getting the following error.

              Hi Jacek,
              Thank you for your suggestion. I changed the Web App version to 1.2 instead of 2.2. It worked. Thanks once again for the timely response. I really do appreciate it.

  • Web application and web.xml

    i have a web application consisting of 1 servlet and 5 jsps.
    the start point would be index.jsp
    i use firmwide login page. after login, i want the browser to display index.jsp page.
    In web.xml, i have defined -
    <welcome-file-list>          <welcome-file>/jsp/index.jsp</welcome-file>     </welcome-file-list>       <servlet>        <servlet-name>UtilitiesServlet</servlet-name>        <servlet-class>com.gs.fw.sox404.utilities.UtilitiesServlet</servlet-class>             <init-param>             <param-name>util-log4j-init-file</param-name>             <param-value>/WEB-INF/classes/util_log4j.properties</param-value>          </init-param>        <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>    </servlet>     <servlet-mapping>        <servlet-name>UtilitiesServlet</servlet-name>        <url-pattern>/UtilitiesServlet</url-pattern>    </servlet-mapping>if i define it as just index.jsp in the welcome file list, after successful login, it displays the dir structure of the web app.
    if i define it as jsp/index.jsp, then in some of the pages, it tries to find the servlet inside jsp folder.
    What would be the best way to get around this?

    Well, yes, it's not able to find it because you've not understood the mechanism of how it works clearly. You have to put your welcome file under every directory you want it to be used from. Like I said, it's not a path, it's a filename. So if the container sees that your request URL is for a directory, it'll look for the welcome files from the welcome file list, one by one, in the order of declaration. Whichever one it finds first, it'll serve that. If it doesn't find any, then it'll either give a 404 or a directory listing depending on the server and it's settings.
    So your problem is that you've put your index.jsp in your JSP folder but expect it to be served for all URLs. That won't happen, you'll have to put one file named index.jsp into every directory. The reasoning is pretty simple, what if you want different behaviour for each folder?
    This should fix your problem :)
