Missing background icon image on wrapping text in IE

I'm using css to add a background image to links in a
paragraph (adding a pdf icon for a link that points to a pdf, an
arrow to a link to an external site...etc). Using "background:
url(/images/shared/icons/pdf-document.gif) no-repeat left 0.2em;
padding-left: 18px;" works as long as the text in the link doesn't
wrap. In IE, if the text wraps the background image disappears, but
the space for it (because of the padding) is still there. If I
resize the browser so the text does not wrap the image suddenly
appears. Any other browser the image is there. The doctype is xhtml
1.0 strict.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to handle
this?

The code i pasted is just from a sample page. My actual website has lot more stuff in it and still does
not show up.
Best if you upload your page to the web and provide a link so we can see it.
Pardon my ignorance but how do I save the image as RGB
What software do you use to create/edit your images?
In Photoshop, it's Image > Mode > RGB then Save for Web
Most browsers can handle RGB (web) or CMYK (print) images.
However IE cannot read CMYK images. Thus it's best to ensure all images are RGB.

  • Wrapping text around an image on top of a background

I am trying to wrap text around a photo, but I'm doing so on top of a background color box in my Master Page.  Problem is that when I create the background box in the Master Page, the text goes away.  I can resolve the problem by checking the "Ignore Text Wrap" option under the Text Frame Option menu, but then I lose the text wrap around my images.  Is there a way around this?

  • Ho do I wrap text around an image?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to wrap text around an image so that it follows the outline of the image. The E.O. Wilson book has an example, but I have seen it in other books, too. I am using images that have their background taken away with Instant Alpha, but the wrap doesn't work reliably. I wonder if it is a setting I am missing or if Instant Alpha is just unreliable.
    Here is what I do:
I drag the photo into a standard page in the chapter (not a chapter or section start page).
    I then apply Instant Alpha.
The background disappears, but the text doesn't flow into the spaces.
My settings in the Inspector's Object Placement tab is as follows:
    Anchored
Object causes wrap (second icon from left)
    Text Fit (right icon)
    Extra Space 16pt
    Alpha 50%
No text flow. What sometimes works is if I apply a mask to the picture and then make it big enough to reveal the whole picture. Suddenly text flows into the space around the picture. But that is also not a reliable solution. It works sometimes, but not others.
My workaround right now is to create a shape with the pen tool that traces the image. Text flows around this shape just fine. I then place that shape where I want the image and turn off Object Causes Wrap on the image. I then group the shape with the image to make moving them easier. That is a huge effort, and I am sure there is something I am doing wrong.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

  • In Pages for iPad, I couldn't wrap text(Chinese characters) around the image

Hi, a question about Pages for iPad. I wrote some words with Chinese characters and then inserted a image from the Camera Roll. The problem is that I couldn't wrap words around the photo. I tried again wrote some words in English and it's ok for wrapping. Why did this happen?

From the help section in the Pages app ....
Anchor or free an object to or from its surrounding text:
Select the object, tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
To make an object move with the flow of text, slide “Move with Text” to ON.To make an object remain stationary, unaffected by changes in the surrounding text flow, slide “Move with Text” to OFF.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
    Wrap text around an object:
Select the object and tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
Tap a wrap option to select it.Automatic optimizes text wrap for you, depending on the size and position of the object, and the width of the text column. Text wraps around an object, unless there’s very little space around the sides, in which case the text flows only above and below the object. Around lets you customize the text wrap around the sides, without automatic optimization. Above and Below allows text lines only above and below the object.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
This works for me. Restart your iPad if this does not work for you.

  • Wrapping text around the image in illustrator cs4

I am trying to create a brochure with wrapping text around the image, I have followed several online tutorials like http://www.tutorials-expert.com/tutorial/19302/Wrapping-Text-Around-an-Image-in-Illustrato r.html and some other but I followed these instructions and i did not see any effect. Since i am new to illustrator, can some one point me in write direction.
    Thanks.

You should mark the thread answered as this is a situation that for some reason passes by the users often even though it is covered in the tutorials.
No real need to designate a user as the one who answered the question just mark the thread answered. This problem comes up often and it is always the same user error.

  • Pasting images, editing, wrap around text in appleworks

When I try to insert images into a text document in Appleworks, it will add the image, but the only thing I can do is resize it. I can't place the image where I want it to go, and I can't make the text wrap around it either.
Also, is there a way to make flow charts, or add text to the shapes you can insert????
    Thanks!

    Hi Cristina,
Images can be inserted into AppleWorks WP documents in two different ways—as inline objects or as floating objects.
If AppleWorks is in Text mode when you insert or paste the graphic, it will become an inline object. These are treated as a single (large) character in the line of text, and their location is fixed relative to the text itself. Inline objects can be moved, within the line of text, by clicking on the object to select it, then dragging it to another position in the text.
If AppleWorks is in Draw mode when the graphic is inserted or pasted, it will be a floating object. These 'float' above the text layer, and can be moved independently of the text, which flows under the object. If Text Wrap (go Options > Text Wrap) is applied to the object, the text will flow around it.
You can change an inline object to a floating object using the following steps:
•Click on the red toolbox at the lower left of the window to Show the Tools.
•Click the object (graphic) to select it. A single handle will appear at the bottom right corner of the object.
•Press command-X to Cut the opbect from the document and place it on the clipboard.
•In the Tools, click the Selection Tool (Arrow) at the top of the Tools Palette.
•Press command-V to Paste the graphic back into the document as a floating object.
(•With the object still selected, go Options > Text Wrap... Choose Regular, and click OK.)
You'll now have a graphich which can be repositioned at will, and which text will flow around.

  • AWT only canvas - styled text, images, word wrap and url posting.. how???

    Wassup people!
Ive created a java chat client which uses the JTextPane to post messeges, emoticons and styled text. But the main problem here is that the majority of web browsers only support awt. Telling the users to download the latest jre with swing is long and most would rather go to another site, so i have reprogrammed the whole client in awt apart from the textpane. I now face the problem of creating a canvas that supports styled text, images, word wrap and url posting.
I am only a beginner in java and the initial client was quite easy to do using swing, but to program an efficient canvas that supports this has proved to be quite challenging. would anyone beable to show me the best way of doing this? or refer me onto a library that already supports this? or is there even an awt version of the JTextPane somewhere which would save alot of time? any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

I've seen a few APIs that are 100% pure java in 1.1 that implement a styled text area. They aren't free though and I'm pretty sure someone made some money off of the fact that java 1.1 didn't implement a styled text area.
I understand the problem you are having. Before the days of swing styled text was something you wished you had. Just so you know, there is no easy way of doing this. You could always paint it yourself with a canvas in a scroll pane but then you get to the point where, unless you did some serious mouse handling, highlighting text becomes very difficult.

always want the image to be in the upper left hand corner of a Vbox
or canvas or whatever with the text neatly wrapping around it. im
using an xml list to generate the image and the surrounding text I
no it cant be done using htmlText but it does not make the text

Have you tried just putting the text in line with the pic and
call it htmltext, even if it's not? I suppose it depends on if you
have some characters that should be escaped but embedding the image
should always be up at the upper left. Something like the following
    with your own pic.jpg.

    public var htmlString:String="<img src='Assets/pic.jpg'
align='left'/>This is just some sample text & some things
that should be escaped like it's time to check to see if this thing
wraps OK. This is just some sample text & some things that
should be escaped like it's time to check to see if this thing

  • 'NETWORK' ICON IN 'MY COMPUTOR' MISSING IT'S IMAGE ..?

    Hi
my network icon image is missing when i open 'my computor'.
Only the title 'network' is visible.
It's always like this, even after restarts and repaired permissions.
The network icon does appear whole in the finder menu bar.
    Any ideas anyone???
    Thanks
    didier

    Hi didier!
That seems to be one of the great "Mysteries"!
Mine behaves the same way, although a restart will return it, only to disappear again. I don't have a clue what makes it run away from home.
The issue has been discussed here before, without any resolution that I know of.
It used to bother me, but as I'm not on a Network, I just decided to forget about it.
I do know that if once you get it to reappear, and then, keep the "My Computer" Finder window open at all times, the Network icon will not take a vacation.
I used to keep in as small as possible, in the bottom left corner of my screen, but as it's absence didn't create any operating problems, I finally quit doing that as well.
Although it doesn't bother me anymore, I'd still like to know what causes the icon to become the "Invisible Man".

  • How is it possible to adjust the background images and the text in Mail?

How is it possible to adjust the background images and the text in Mail?

Here's the solution I used to solve the same problem. If you're not comfortable editing the source files, this might be more than you want to take on--but I've done it to several files with no ill effects. You can follow the instructions on this page and the referenced original post from (he includes a link on the page). Good luck! He's got some great tips on some of his other pages.
    http://photo.rwboyer.com/2010/03/15/aperture-3-book-theme-trick/
A warning about editing the Master pages--it only edits them in that book--it doesn't update the theme. So if you go to create another book with those same layouts, you'll have to duplicate the book and replace all the images. An alternative would be to create a "clean" book with no photos in it and then just use that as a starting point each time.

  • Wrapping text around an image in a blog post

    Hi,
I want my client to have the choice to wrap text around an image they have inserted into a blog post. How is this possible? I have tried to create a class that would would appear in the 'apply a class' section of the editor but it doesnt work, the class doesnt even appear in  the editor.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Dean

    Hi Liam.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I have added it in the partner portal and it just says clear class.
I have only added a small bit of css so I dont think that is the problem. I just the below applied to the image so the text will float round it.
    .wraptext {
            float:left;
I think the problem is that it is in the wrong css file. I have tried it on few different css files and it does the appear in the editor for some of the webpages. No matter what css file I put it in, it still doesnt appear as an option when adding a blog post.
The blog post is referencing a few stylesheets, how can I identify which one the code should be in?

  • Wrapping Text Query - DW 8

I posted this problem a few days ago. I didn't get any
answers that I could use. If any of you could be so kind as to
    answer these questions:
In getting text to wrap, do I create a table and put the
image in one cell and the text in another, or do the image and text
    go in the same cell?
Do I not use tables at all?
I have been advised heavily not to use layers, so I've gotten
rid of all layers on the site I am creating. Do I need these for
any reason to solve this problem?
One person told me to align the image, but I need the answer
about tables as above first. I know how to align an image but how
does that affect the text wrapping?
I know this is simple but there's something I'm missing here,
    any help out there?
My original post is pasted here:
I am trying to wrap some text to the right of an image and
have it wrap around underneath as well. First, do I create a single
cell table and put both in one cell? Two column one row table (but
then the text can't wrap)? No table? I've spent hours on this and I
cannot get the text to wrap properly.
I don't know how to create a margin between the text and the
image unless I pad or margin the cells, but then there's too much
space at the bottom of the image. I am using my .maintext style for
the text which has no padding and I can't add any or it will affect
the entire site. I resorted to dropping the image into photoshop
onto a layer of the same color as the site background 10px wider to
give the apparency of a margin. Wrapping is still funky and I know
    that's a jack-around way of doing it.
Its such a basic thing, a 245x354 px image with right text
wrapping under the pic. Can someone please tell me the proper way
    to do this? Thanks!!!

It is just marketing hype, and while it is true that DW
    writes the code for
you, you would still have to KNOW how to tell DW to write the
    code properly.
