Missing Codecs in AVI Compressor Comparison Example

Hi all. I am trying to write a program what will compress avi's and as a starting point i had a look at the AVI compressor Comparison Example, but when i run it it is only showing 2 codecs.  I have a few installed and they all work fine with windows media player.  Am i doing something wrong? Wonder why they are not showing up in the name array output from IMAQ AVI get filter names.vi ? I was hoping to use the Lagarith lossless codec, but so far no luck.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Labview 2010 64 bit, with vision toolkit.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi dirtyb15,
If you don't mind finding a couple more 64 bit codecs that we could test in order to verify that the issue isn't just with the Lagarith Lossless Codec that would be great. After I conduct those tests with the other codecs I can move forward with the creation of a CAR.
As far as your sound issue, the reason why you have no sound after you do the compression is because the IMAQ AVI VIs are only reading the video data in your program, not the sound data. Therefore, when it reads in the AVI, it doesn't take in the sound information. Consequently, the new compressed version of the video doesn't have the sound attached to it. If you want to have audio played you'll have to get the audio data and combine it back into the avi. I linked a different forum post that describes methods to do this. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.
Thanks,

  • AVI Compressor Comparison Example not working with Flame.avi

    Hello,
I downloaded the NI Vision module for a trial to see what it could do. I will be owrking with black and white files (AVI or other) so I tried the "AVI Compressor Comparison Example.vi" along with the "Flame.avi" from "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Vision\Examples\Images\AVIs". Basically, the example decompresses "Flame.avi" and then compresses the same file using all of the installed codecs.
When I run the example and then try to play the avi files, all of them are blank (black) and reflect a much shorter playing time than the 16.6 seconds of the original (before decompression) avi which I can play on VLC and QuickTime but not Windows Media Player. When I look at the original video properties in LV, the file format is RGB even
though it is B&W. When I look at the video properties in VLC or
QuickTime, it shows it as Motion JPEG OpenDML, 200 x 340 with millions of colors.
All of the other avi files in the example folder work fine.  Does anyone have any ideas of what might be going on? Thanks.

I am running LabVIEW 8.5 on a Windows 32 bit XP Service Pack 2 PC.  I have DirectX 9.0c installed.

    Hey Michael,
I am a little confused by your post. However, first things first. You can have an image that is of RGB type and it still appear B&W.  So, that Flame.avi file, though it appears B&W, is actually a color picture. Instead of a single numeric value to represent a grey level, there are three numeric values (RGB) that combine to represent a grey level. Possible reasons for this I am not quite sure. It could be to give a larger avi file to better test the different codecs.  In terms of playing the avi files again. This depends on the codecs being used and whether or not the tool you are using to play them supports that particular codec. You had mentioned that the other avi's work fine, particularly, which avi files are you referring to?
Also, if you manually read in the Flame.avi and then write it again using a codec to compress your avi do you see the same problems introduced by the AVI compressor Comparison Example?
    Hope this helps.

  • Missing Codec in PrE 9, but not 2 or 10?

I've browsed the forum about missing codecs and AVIs, but I'm still confused. I have an old Canon S3IS that saves video as .AVI. I have no problem using those files in PrE version 2 & 10, but when I try to open them in PrE 9 I get the "not supported or missing codec" message and they won't import. Question: Why does version 2 & 10 work but not 9? ...And what is the easiest fix - download a codec pack or a video converter (hopefully a free one)?
(Note: Running PrE 2 on WinXP, PrE 9 on Win7x32 Home Premium, and PrE 10 on Win7x64 Ultimate).

Please do not EVER download a codec pack !!!
Some people who have done so have then had to wipe their hard drive and install fresh to fix the problems

  • Sudden Increase in Missing Codecs

I have been working on a documentary shot on different media and have never once had a missing codec error.  This past week, after assembling a rough cut of the trailer from all the assorted sequences the 'codec could not be found' error message starts cropping up and is rapidly spreading and I can't determine why or how to fix it.  I have not introduced any new sort of footage the sequences hadn't already had - and what gets me is that previously fine sequences, when I go back to tweak the colour in FCP for example, then have codec errors too.
Most of the footage was shot on DV cameras, but it seems to be dogging the clips that are either 720 or 1080p.  I reemphasise these clips have rendered dozens of times before.  I'm drawing a blank on this one.  All suggestions welcome, please, it keeps crashing!

We are having the same issue with dropped calls.  I have an IPhone 4S and my husband has an IPhone 4.  This has become increasingly worse.  We never had these problems in the past.  We have updated our software and towers but nothing helps.  Something is going on with the signals!

  • Install codec for avi Premeire Elements 12

How does one install a codec for .avi in Premiere Elements 12 ? or do what ever is needed to allow .avi files created with a Canon G9 camera to be edited.

    Bondz2
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Can we assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit?
From what I have read, your camera is recording with video compression = MotionJPEG. This video compression can be a problem
for Premiere Elements. It is a toss up whether the issue involves the MotionJPEG codec not being available to Premiere Elements versus
    the MotionJPEG being absent.
    The classical remedies include...
    a. Look for a utility that camera with the camera so that you can install the utility and get the MotionJPEG codec
    or
    b. Download and install the Morgan MotionJPEG codec as the tryout. If it works, then consider if it is worth the investment.
    Morgan Multimedia - Product - M-JPEG Codec
This codec might be available from other sources. Not sure.
    c. Convert the MotionJPEG to another format which is compatible with Premiere Elements and import that into the project.
Example: MotionJPEG.avi to DV.AVI with MPEGStreamclip.

  • I cannot see the Vidoe displayed on the screen, only hear the sound.  I am missing a component? Compressor, etc. I just downloaded the latest version of Quicktime for Microsoft, please help.

I am not able to view my video taken with a memory card only the sound?  I am missing a component? Compressor, etc. I just downloaded the latest version of Quicktime for Microsoft, please help
I can see it on Windows Media? Need help on this.

It says SEDG 720X480 2:1 Mono.  Video came from Sd memory card taken with a Samsung Video Camera.
Strangely enough, as a FourCC, SEDG is defined as "MPEG-4 hardware and software codec used in Samsung digital video products." Not a Windows or Samsung camcorder user but THIS WEB PAGE may be of some assistance.
Also I will need to view a CD recorded by the same camera (DVD-RW) file extensions are VIDEO_RM.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,  SAMSUNG.IFO  So far these files don't open even with Windows Media.
I don't know what to do to be able to open up these files save them on my Hard drive and then be able to upload them to YouTube.  Any Ideas?
IFO files tell how the video content is segmented and where the video data is located. BUP files contain back-up IFO information. VOB files contain actual multipled audio/video data. A DVD formatted to play in a commercial DVD player normally contains a series of files named "VTS##_#.VOB" where ## refers to the "title" series and "_#" (where # is not a zero) refers to the order in which the video title file data is played.
Again, I am neither a Windows user nor an athority on Samsung VIDEO_RM folder structures. However, if your disc contains both a VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS folder, then I would normally assume the VIDEO_RM folder is present for legacy purposes and/or to provide information about the refording device while the VIDEO_TS folder actually contains the video object (VOB) file data. In any case, as I am not familiar with what software is available for muxed MPEG-2/AC3 editing/conversion on a Windows platform, I would try viewing the VOB files in an application like MPEG Streamclip (free). If you can play the Audio and video content (be sure to read the MPEG Streamclip requirements regarding codec installation), then you can edit (merge and/or trim) the raw data and convert it to a format compatible for YouTube uploading. (I.e., MPEG Streamclip is commonly used on the Mac for this type of work flow and the app is also available for Windows use.)

  • FCP WON4T OPEN THE TIMELINE. QT  PROBLEM , MISSING CODECS

    thx for the reply,
i tried to downgrade QT version because of my MC soft that supports only 7.3. just got FCP 6 that, came with QT 7.5.5.
i trashed many QT files, hoping to prevent any conflicts with 7.3 (like in the old days)
now i can't even open a seq in FCP. project opens fine but with no timeline and only the viewer window.
when i click on a seq i get this message. "can't find the codec. "you may use a compression mode without the good card" (i'm translating from french).
    any idea?
that'll teach me to go back and forth bet avid and fcp. gotta pick one.
    thx again

hi there and thx for the help.
here's what a pop window said when i went to seg/settings "missing the 1:1 10 bit compressor", then the seq setting window appeared and i changed the codec to mpeg-4. the TL and canvas reappeared. i do have to render the video tracks.
here's what the QT movie footage infos says: "uncompressed 10bit 4.2.2 integer (Big Endian) Timecode. in the timeline when i check the properties it doesn't say anything other than it's ntsc ccir 601 26,9 mo/s nothing next to compressor unlike other shots.
thx a lot, at least i got my tl back.
how should i set my seq settings when i have different sources so i don't have to render all the time?
do i have to reinstall fcp6 to get these missing codec back or reinstall the os . can i just do an ARCHIVE AND INSTALL?
    thx

  • Missing Codec Error?

Hey final cut people! I got a big problem!
I have a project in Final Cut Pro 7.0, and every time I open a project (any project, or just the application itself via the dock), I get an error message saying "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without a corresponding hardware card." Then, after clicking "OK", I am greeted to a half-open project: the Browser and Viewer are open to the project, but the timeline and canvas aren't open, and are greyed out in the "window" menu. Thus, final cut is inoperable. I can open a clip in the browser and play it in the viewer, but that's about it.
All my footage is shot with a Nikon D5100, 1080p .MOV's.
My computer is a Late 2008 iMac, with 4gb of RAM and 175gb of free space on both my harddrive and external harddrive. It's running Lion 10.7.1
My final cut is version 7.0 and I am not able to update it (long story, I don't wanna get into it).
Quicktime player is acting normal, I am able to open the files in finder and play them in Quicktime, so it seems that any missing codecs aren't affecting it. I looked at other answers on here and they didn't seem to help. I looked in the Quicktime folder in ~/Library to check my codecs, and there are so many, I'm not sure if anything's missing.
This problem is very sudden, I haven't touched my Library folder in months and the last time I opened final cut, a few weeks ago, all was well. I am in dire need of a fix pretty soon, thanks in advance for all your help!!!

    Convert the material to ProRes.
Drag your h.264 file into Compressor's Project window and drop it on the bar that says "drag settings and destinations here"
    Go to the "settings" window.
Drill down to Apple>Formats>Quicktime>Apple ProRes 422 (LT)
Drag it over and drop it on the window where your you put your original file.
    Set a destination.
    Click submit.
This will transcode your h.264 to ProResLT. bring that file into FCP and life will be good. If you have dozens of these files, Compressor will easily handle batch processing.
While Compressor is cranking away on your file, open up the Compressor help file and read up. It is a very powerful utility.
    good luck,

  • Problems using AVI read/write example

I would like to test some vision processing software I wrote by reading an AVI file rather than a live stream. I found the "AVI read/write example" mentioned on this forum and it sounds like exactly what i need, but I cannot get it to read my avi files. When I run the example read VI, it says "An exception occured with the external code called by a call library node". Doing further testing, I found one AVI on my computer that would work, all others crash the VI. Another odd behavior is that the "avi init read" subvi will return the wrong frame rate for some AVIs. I have tried both compressed and uncompressed AVIs all in RGB format. I have also tried different frame rates and encoding options for my AVI file with no luck. I am just a stud
ent, so buying software is not an option for me.
Has anyone had problems reading AVIs with this? Are there AVI encoding options that will make this VI work?

    Hello,
I think the avi functions that you get are VFW based, it can not read
any format of compression codec. But it should be able to read
uncompressed AVI files. But anyway, if you can't get IMAQ-vision 7.0
avi functions to try (I don't have, I don't know how it works), you
can always get my IVision to try out. In IVision, there are two groups
of avi functions. One is called "AVI functions", they are VFW based,
so not always work for all kind compressed avi files, but I have
another group called "Media files", the functions there work for all
format compressed AVI files, including mpeg, asf, avi... you can
access the frame image by using a callback vi (example included), seek
the media position, change play rate, etc.

  • HT3775 where do i go to get needed sound codec for avi to play on mac?

where do i go to get needed sound codec for avi to play on mac?

There is no single codec for videos that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the videos you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might work. Otherwise, you'll have to determine what codec was used for that audio track.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

  • Missing codec in Media Player to play LabVIEW training video over Web

I get a "missing codec 130" message when I try to run LV training video from NI website. The error link takes me to MS site but codec is not available for download (apparently). WM player is configured for auto download of codecs cant find it. I have re-downloaded WM player twice and also run windows update.
Any ideas what to do next?

    Hi mg,
After googling around, it appears as though "codec 130" is referring to an ACELP Sipro codec.
If you enable codec download in WMP, the codec should be installed automatically when you play the video. However, if it does not, then it's possible that the codec may already be there and there may be an issue with the codec already installed.
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#wmv is a link about installing/downloading this codec.
I'm not sure if you've tried this yet, but is it possible to uninstall WMP first and then reinstall? Also, I would maybe look into finding ways to uninstall/unregister codecs to see if we can reload the codec.

  • I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X. For example, can I export  in F4V or FLV format?

I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X.  For example, can I export  in FLV format?  Where do I find the list, which gives me all the details about it?  Or is there only one output codec? Thanks

That's an excellent analogy. While FCP cannot export FLV. It is possible to do a very simple substitution. If you export a QuickTime movie using the .mov suffix with the H.264 codec, you can change it to FLV simply by changing the suffix to .flv. This is an acceptable format for Flash movies on most web sites, if that's where you're trying to go.
