Missing HTML tag

I've noticed that Dreamweaver CS4 is missing <strike>
tag that is listed in HTML 4.01 specification on W3 website.
Can anyone explain why this tag isn't included in Dreamweaver
?

They do. You might be interested in this about HTML 4.01
Strict (note
that it is from December 24, 1999):
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/global.html#h-7.2
"The HTML 4.01 Strict DTD includes all elements and
attributes that
have not been deprecated or do not appear in frameset
documents."
Indicating that deprecated elements and attributes are
already obsolete
when using the strict DTD. There is a similar statement in
the XHTML
1.0 specs.
Of course, you can continue using the HTML 4.01 Transitional
DTD from
the same specs and deprecated items will still validate.
"The HTML 4.01 Transitional DTD includes everything in the
strict DTD
plus deprecated elements and attributes (most of which
concern visual
presentation)."
I don't see a particularly good reason to do that for new or
updated
sites, though.

  • How can I control the javascript tolerance of missing html element tags in FF 4.0?

    I have a javascript routine that tries to get a form hidden input value using getElementById(id).value. The line of html code is:
    <input id='id' type='hidden' value='value'
    Note the missing closing tag ">". The line is terminated by a crlf.
    This code worked in FF3.xx but fails in FF4.0bx. The javascript function fails and returns false when it can not find id='id' using getElementById(id).value.

    Some aspects of JavaScript may be sensitive to the DOCTYPE declaration, but otherwise, if Firefox does not place the element into the DOM, then you won't be able to access it in a script.

  • XML import = missing entities (common HTML tags)?

    I have a very simple XML doc, mostly text, but with common HTML tags (nbsp, for example).
    Upon import, I get an error for several of these tags - "Entity _____ was not found."
    These are common HTML characters - what can I do so that InDesign recognizes them? Do I have something set wrong? Do I have to map them?

  • HTML Tags escape while exporting to PDF

    Hi friends,
    I have two columns in my BI report like
    Business Group(BG) and OU
    Since in the BG column under the edit formula i used the html tags to show each and every BG column value in bold like below
    '<b>' || "D1.Company"."Business Group Full Name" || '</b>'
    Now the report is appearing fine in answers and dashboard but when i export the same report to PDF i can see the html tags in each and every name of the BG group.
    Is there anything to be done to escape these html tags in PDF while exporting.
    And also if we give the tooltip for the numeric columns like below under the column properties-->Data format-->Custom like
    [html]<p title=\""Employee Count" \">#
    And after that if i tried to escape the same report with the tooltip on the numeric column to pdf means, the number values are missing for the entire column in the PDF, but this case is not appearing while exporting the report to pdf if i set the tooltip to the text column, as the values is missing only for the tooltip of the numeric column. What could be the fix for this problem.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Saro

    Hi svee,
    Thanks for the reply.
    For an example i tried with the bold option in the edit formula inorder to portray the html tags problem while exporting it to the pdf inspite of using the default bold option within the column properites like u said.
    Suppose if i used html tags like
    <br>, </br>
    in the edit formula section or if i used any other html tags which is not present as a default option in bi like bold. At that time while exporting the report to pdf i can face the issue.
    And also i need ur suggestion regarding with the values disappearing for the numeric column if a tooltip is used in it while exporting it to the pdf.

  • Unable to handle html tags in BI publisher trial edition

    Hi,
    I am very new to BI publisher and having issues reading rich text field from database and reading into the report.
    BI Publisher - 11.1.1.6 trial edition
    test case: I have a rich text field that stores html tags in the database. I have created a data model using sql query and am selecting rich text field from the database. When trying to display that field on the report in BI publisher I get the html tags.
    I even tried Tim Dexter solution mentioned in the below blog but now when I run the report nothing shows up for that rich text field in the report. I am not sure if I am missing any steps while using html2fo.

    Please help since I am struggling with this for past few days. Also below is the sample xml data where element "PROJECT_DETAILS" is the rich text field.

  • WS - "java.rmi.MarshalException: (1)Missing end tag for Body or Envelope"

    HI All,
    I'm new of this forum but I really hope you could help me solving the problem I have to connect Web Services and midlets.
    Somehow my configuration works with some services I've found online but when I invoke very simple services deployed on my server(s) I always have "java.rmi.MarshalException: (1)Missing end tag for Body or Envelope" exception"
    Let me add some more information to the problem:
    System Configuration:
    - JBoss (but I also tried axis) - standard installation (http/1.1)
    - WTK 2.5 (but I also tried 2.2) - standard installation
    - I tried "trusted" and "untrusted" security configuration of the servlet
    - Netbeans IDE 5.0 (to create both Midlets and WS)
    - WS uses document/literal as expected by JSR 172
    The midlet is created with no problems but at the time of invocation the server throws the above exception (which is part of rmi. remoteException)
    By monitoring the network both at client and server side I noticed that the information received is chuncked after 768 bytes. However, If the (soap) reponse is less than such value, I still have the error.
    Using Http/1.1. at the mobile side, the service does not return me anything (0kb) while if I set the mobile device to http/1.0, I get the above error.
    I really have to make the midlet running so any type of help will be really appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi all,
    as many developers I have encountered the famous "java.rmi.MarshallException:(1)Missing end tag for Body or Envelope" during the development of my WS app for J2ME (JSR 172).
    It is correct that is the empty tag <soapenv:Header /> causing this error.
    To fix this error, it is necessary to stop the server to generate this empty header in the response stream.
    I have fixed this error for Axis2: unfortunaly it is necessary to modify a class in Axiom library. This library is used in Axis2 to produce the SOAP response, you can download the source code at http://ws.apache.org/commons/axiom/source-repository.html.
    Here the class to modify:
    axiom\modules\axiom-impl\src\main\java\org\apache\axiom\soap\impl\llom\soap11\SOAP11Factory.java
    by commenting the line 273 in the method called getDefaultEnvelope() to prevent the empty header insertion in SOAP response:
    public SOAPEnvelope getDefaultEnvelope() throws SOAPProcessingException {
            OMNamespace ns =
                    new OMNamespaceImpl(
                            SOAP11Constants.SOAP_ENVELOPE_NAMESPACE_URI,
                            SOAP11Constants.SOAP_DEFAULT_NAMESPACE_PREFIX);
            SOAPEnvelopeImpl env = new SOAPEnvelopeImpl(ns, this);
            //createSOAPHeader(env); the line to be commented
            createSOAPBody(env);
            return env;
        }Finally you have to recompile Axiom using Maven to obtain the fixed package axiom-impl.jar and to replace this package on the lib repository of your Axis2 server.
    A little tricky to fix this bug but now my app runs perfectly ;)
    Enjoy!

    Don't do this via the SQL selection as hardcoded HTML??
    I think the following 2 approaches far superior.
    If you need the actual SQL projection to contain HTML, implement user functions for data transformation. E.g.
    SQL> create or replace function MakeDiv(
      2          divBody varchar2,
      3          fontColor varchar2 default 'black',
      4          tooltip varchar2 default null )
      5  return varchar2 is
      6          DIV_TEMPLATE constant varchar2(4000) :=
      7          '<div style="color:$COLOR" title="$TOOLTIP"> $BODY </div>';
      8
      9          htmlDiv varchar2(4000);
    10  begin
    11          htmlDiv := replace( DIV_TEMPLATE, '$BODY', divBody );
    12          htmlDiv := replace( htmlDiv, '$COLOR', fontColor );
    13          htmlDiv := replace( htmlDiv, '$TOOLTIP', tooltip );
    14          return( htmlDiv );
    15  end;
    16  /
    Function created.
    SQL>
    SQL> select MakeDiv( ename, 'blue', 'Employee '||empno ) from emp;
    MAKEDIV(ENAME,'BLUE','EMPLOYEE'||EMPNO)
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7369"> SMITH </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7499"> ALLEN </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7521"> WARD </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7566"> JONES </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7654"> MARTIN </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7698"> BLAKE </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7782"> CLARK </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7788"> SCOTT </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7839"> KING </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7844"> TURNER </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7876"> ADAMS </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7900"> JAMES </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7902"> FORD </div>
    <div style="color:blue" title="Employee 7934"> MILLER </div>
    14 rows selected.
    SQL> An even better approach is not to do this in the SQL projection - but instead have a PL/SQL framework that accepts a SQL, and turns the SQL projection of that SQL into a HTML report. Where this framework can use different templates to generate different types of HTML reports.
    This approach is very successfully used by Oracle Apex.

  • Stripping all HTML tags from a CLOB

    Hi all,
    Running Oracle 9.2.0.8 on AIX...
    We have a table which stores HTML document fragments in a clob. I have a requirement to convert these to plain/text (strip all HTML tags) for sending in a plain/text email body.
    I have read the following solution from Tom Kyte's site:
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:25695084847068
    Basically creating an Oracle text index on the CLOB column and calling ctx_doc.filter with "plaintext" parameter set to true.
    I noticed in Tom's example, he uses the default filter, which based on the docs, is NULL_FILTER, which applies no filtering. I have tried his example in my dev box, creating the text index on the CLOB column with no parameters.
    The call to ctx_doc.filter did not filter the html at all. I re-created the index and specified the INSO_FILTER and the filtering was done. I was under the impression that INSO_FILTER was for filtering binary content to plaintext...
    create table filter ( query_id number, document clob );
    create table demo
      ( id            int primary key,
        theclob       clob
    create index demo_idx on demo(theClob) indextype is ctxsys.context;
    SET DEFINE OFF;
    Insert into DEMO
       (ID, THECLOB)
    Values
       (1, '<html><body><p>This is a test of <strong>ctx_doc.filter</strong> and plaintext filtering.</p></body></html>');
    COMMIT;
    exec ctx_doc.filter('demo_idx',1, 'filter',1, true);The above code does not convert the html to plaintext...
    Now re-create with the index with INSO_FILTER
    drop index demo_idx;
    create index demo_idx on demo(theClob) indextype is ctxsys.context parameters ('filter ctxsys.inso_filter');
    exec ctx_doc.filter('demo_idx',1, 'filter',1, true);Above scenario returns string "This is a test of ctx_doc.filter and plaintext filtering."
    The ORacle documentation doesn't specify any special filter parameter that needs to be set... just wondering if I'm missing soemthing here... or better yet, if there is a better solution to my problem. ;-)
    Thanks
    Stephane

    The difference between what you did and what Tom Kyte did is that you created your index on a clob column and Tom created his index on a blob column. What I don't know is why that makes a difference. I have demonstrated below with one blob column and one clob column, one index on the blob and one index on the clob, using the same code on both, with different results.

  • HTML Tags in Crystal

    Hello All,
    Since my replies were deleted for some unknown reason from the feature requests thread,
    I Thought that i might be missing something and Maybe someone can shed some light on this issue for me...
    We're using Sql Server 2008 to store our data, in some tables we're using varchar(max) as data type and we store huge HTMLs inside them.
    unfortunately, crystal reports support text length only up to 65534, which give's us a big headache because we have to use our own workaround to cut these huge HTMLs in 65k chunks and yet make them look as if they were in one piece.
    What we can't work around, is the lack of support in basic HTML Tags, such as <TABLE>.
    every text that was originaly authored inside a table tag, will be stripped down from the table to a messed text...
    Does anyone have a solution/workaround for this issue? we desperately need the ability to display this HTML element in the report, but for now we're unable to.
    Please help, Thank you.

    hey Muskito,
    there is another method that you can try. there is an option to activate Pass Through HTML which will then allow fields and formulae containing html to show up as html. the activation of Pass Through HTML is a supported feature of businessobjects enterprise since version xi.
    before you waste too much time on this, here are the limitations:
    1) you cannot export the html as html...i.e. if you export a report with pass through html the html will show up as text instead of html
    2) you cannot use the crystal reports viewer print option...sometimes the browser print functionality will suffice
    3) paging can be an issue as the cr print engine doesn't know the sizing of the html being printed
    to see how to activate pass through html, go to the webelements page [here |Crystal Reports webElements]and download the files...in the User Guide there are instructions on how to activate pass through html on your system.
    cheers,
    jamie

  • Search for strings inside html tags ?

    Is there any way to get Spotlight to find search strings inside html documents? One example is I want to find any file that includes a certain alt=" " string inside an img src tag.
    Spotlight does not seem to include anything inside html tags in it's search, as far as I can tell.
    Am I missing something? Is there something I need to do?
    Thanks for any ideas,

    Very strange--it does find text inside the html files, but indeed does not seem to have text that is in the file but only appears within a tag. The solution is EasyFind by Christian Grunenberg:
    http://www.grunenberg.com
    You can do a content search on files in a particular folder, which I recommend since it does a brute force search and can take awhile if it has to search everything.

  • Can a DTD map custom styles to standard HTML tags?

    Hi,
    Every week the publishing house I work for has to manually copy the entire content of a weekly magazine on an article-by-article basis into an online database, the web version of the magazine. This means copying the styled InDesign content and inserting it into the database as plain text, re-finding all those italics (and any other styling) and putting it all back manually.
    I already know that I can create tags with all the basic HTML styles needed in the 'Tags' palette in InDesign, and then export that.
    The trouble is that when I re-import the XML file, I have to laboriously map the custom house-styles (there are many of them and they're boiler-plate, i.e. consistent, across all the magazine's InDesign styles) to the imported HTML styles.
    So here's my question:
    Am I wrong to believe that it's possible to create a DTD that would import not only the HTML tags but their relationship to the existing, custom-named InDesign tags that are common to all the magazine's documents?
    As an InDesign wish-feature, what's missing from the 'Tags' corner-menu is 'Export DTD' - if that was available, I could map the whole relationship between Indesign Styles/HTML styles just one time and later import the DTD on other articles; which would tell the Structure View how to convert our custom house-styles (both Paragraph Styles and Character Styles) into HTML tags and cut this time-consuming task in half.
    Thanks!
    EDIT: I perhaps should have mentioned that obviously the final stage after this 'dream conversion' is to export the XML from the Structure View. Then I can just open the saved XML file and paste it into the CMS with formatting intact.
    Added extra explanation of the workflow.

    Googling XSLT and InDesign, it seems that such a stylesheet, if I were to create it, possibly couldn't handle spaces in the original InDesign style-names..? If anyone knows that for a fact, I'd be glad to be aware of it before starting down a long path to a roadblock.
    That's a good question. Let's find out together, shall we. I just created a text frame with Lorem Ipsum text, and created "a style" (with space) and "bstyle" (without). Now ... Map Style to Tag doesn't work, presumably because the tags don't exist and I assumed this would *create* them. And if you create one, ID complains "tags cannot contain tabs or spaces". (So can you have a Tab in your paragraph style name then? Gosh.)
    ... Forcing in a Non-breaking Space (#160) also doesn't work, this time ID simply says "A tag name cannot contain the character ' '."
    I think that's one you have to do manually.

    I'm guessing that if I wanted to change the InDesign style 'Subheader' into 'h2', that snippet of the XSLT would be like this...?
    <xsl:template match="Subheader"><h2><xsl:apply-templates /></h2></xsl:template>
    Yeah, that's the correct syntax. But you cannot use an XSLT for mapping InDesign styles to tags. The process as I described works when importing your XML into InDesign, and changes the tags in the XML file to match InDesign styles. That's the other way around.
    I don't expect anyone to write this for me, but any hints or links to tutes that I haven't yet found would be appreciated!
    For a simple one-to-one translation of tag names, you can use this all the way. You only need any other XSL command if you want to do more than simple translation, such as filtering, moving, combining, or separating tags or their contents.
    There are lots of good tutes on the 'web for XSLT, although it seems interest has diminished lately. Half a decade ago XSLT was "hot"; nowadays the iPad is. Is there any news on improvements for ID's native XSLT support in CS6? I dare bet there are none at all -- it's already been deemed "yesterday's technology" by Adobe's Dev Team, just as Flash was discarded per CS5.5. I'm sure next year DPS will follow; and the year after that EPubs will be gone for good as well, replaced by holograms, transmitted live from your local library.

  • Custom html tags with JEditorPane

    I'm trying, to use my own tags within html in the JEditorPane. An insert parses without exception but the html in the pane is missing the custom tags that I attempted to insert. I have tried to use the 'setPreservesUnknownTags' command on the html document, but it appears to have no affect. This is the code I have been trying to use:
    edtHTML.insertHTML(docHTML, 0, "<p><my:link id=\"12\">ABC</my:link></p>", 0, 0, HTML.Tag.P);
    I have also tried
    edtHTML.insertHTML(docHTML, 0, "<my:link id=\"12\">ABC</my:link>", 0, 0, new HTML.UnknownTag("my:link"));
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    I have no example for custom Tags but I found out that every tag is stored as an attribute.
    You can access the attributes if you use a JTextPane. There is a method (i don't know the name yet I will find out tomorrow in the office) which gives you the AttributeSet of each Character at the Carent position. All characters have an attribute "name" and the value of this attribute should be the name of the tag you've inserted.
    The only problem is that I had to read out every character so it's quit slow.
    If you could find a better solution please let me know ([email protected]).
    Thank you.

    Hi;
    TOAD is a product from Quest,not from Oracle. It may be better you ask such a question in an appropriate TOAD forum:

  • How do I set BI Publisher to read html tags from the database?

    How do I set BI Publisher (Release 10.1.3.4) to read html tags from the database? For example if the text is quoted with a bold tag I want my output to display the text in bold. Is there a setting or something I can set?

    I took a look at Tim Dexter's blog as suggested and the sample worked, but for the elements in the xml file not for the value coming from the database, however this is good to know as well!
    I have data in the data base column which looks like this:
    'MS Applied <B(bold tag)> Mathematics</B(bold tag)>University of Southern California'
    I want the data to be rendered like this:
    'MS Applied <B>Mathematics</B> University of Southern California'.
    In Report Builder on the property sheet I would set Contains HTML Tags property to Yes and the report would render correctly.
    In BI Publisher 10.1.3.4 I can not seem set it to read this I have change the configure properties of the report to Character set to HTML and Make HTML output accessible to True. I just can't figure out what I'm missing.
    Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
