Missing Manual or any Book yet?

Does anyone know if there is any book or Missing Manual available yet for purchase or preorder for iWork or iLife '08? Thanks!

It usually takes 3-6 months for third-party books to come out for new software.
Missing Manual has a book for iWork '05 & I don't see any indication of an iWork '08 book. You can ask them yourself. See their contact page.
I can't find a contact for Peachpit & I didn't search the Dummies series.

  • Book: iPhone - The Missing Manual

It's not out in the book stores yet... But after reading the review on +ipod observer+, I found that you can pre-order it from O'Reilly/Pogue Press for $25 and get the full PDF download immediately [$5 for the PDF and $20 for the book]. Amazon is pre-selling the book for $13 and change, but hey, you don't get to get a head start on it by reading the PDF.
Pretty good book, as all O'Reilly books are. Learning some things I didn't know about, and getting answers to things I've wondered about. I recommend it to anyone looking to learn their way around the iPhone faster [I've had mine a couple days...]
On a side note, I'm scheduled for the Going Further iPhone Workshop at the Apple Store on Saturday. So that will get me moving along, I'm sure. Actually, I'm doing really well with it. I just want to be able to use it to it's full potential

Oh, is this supposed to be where I'm supposed to tell you something you don't know? Right. I just recommended a book I'm reading. That's all.

  • Photoshop Elements 4: The Missing Manual

We having been using Photoshop Elements 2. For Christmas my daughter and I got my wife a Wacom Tablet. On one of the disks that came with the tablet was Elements 4. Very nice. So I figured I would get Barbara Brundage's Missing Manual book, but the book is now out of print and because Elements 5 is out, the publisher will not be reprinting. So congratulations to Barbara for writing a very popular book. (By the way, the missing manual for elements 3 is still available). So my question is, does anyone know where I can get a copy of said book. At this point used is fine.

My local bookstore tried to order it and they couldn't because all of their suppliers listed it as out of print, and they have ordered many books for me successfully in the past. Three stores on the web who were out of it informed me via email that they wouldn't be getting any more copies. See this reply as an example:
    > Unfortunately, the book in question is out of stock at the
    > publisher's warehouse and has been for several months. It'll not
    > be reprinted as the Elements 5 book is out / released. In other
    > words, the Elements 4 Missing Manual book is, essentially,
    > "Out of Print" or very near it.
    > We will not be getting more copies in stock. I apologize.
I am unwilling to put in an order to Amazon unless I can get a firm date of shipping, also, and I quote "if you still prefer to use a credit card, we recommend that you enter your full account number". I do not give my bank account number out if I can help it.
When I tried to order the book from one of their affiliates who listed the book as in stock, I got this message: "*** We're sorry. The quantity you requested is no longer available. The number to the right is the maximum quantity currently available. ***" That number was zero.
I think you might get in touch with your publisher and find out just what is the status on this book. I could find out nothing on the publishes web site. I could find no way of determining if the book was available before I put in an order there, and I don't like ordering blind either by phone or over the web.
The fact is, as far as I can tell, and I have spent 4 hours on this, is no one has your book in stock, except maybe the publisher, but they're not telling. Amazon lists the book, but they don't have it in stock. They are promising to ship it in 4 to 6 weeks. That means, according to them, they will have it if the publisher sends it to them. Normally that means they will ship it, but not in all cases. Listen, I run a store and many times we only find out from a publisher that the book is out of print when we make an order for the book and they don't include it in the received order but list it as out of print on the invoice. That is how publishers work.
Sorry, I really wanted to buy your book.

  • Question on B. Brundage's Missing manual

    Hi
I have pse 3. I see the Missing Manual by B. Brundage is out now. I would like to buy a copy. Would I be better off with her previous edition 3 or does the new edition highlight what is applicable to the new version of pse
    thanks
    Neil

Well, I hope this is okay with Jim. (Jim, feel free to pull this if you consider it out of bounds.)
The PE 4 book does cover the new tools, color management options, slide show editor, etc. in PE 4. For Neil, my answer was that if he plans to continue using PE 3 he should get the PE 3 edition of the book, but that if he plans to upgrade to PE 4 in the near future he shouldn't be too confused by the PE 4 book, since PE 4 doesn't require any radical changes in editing strategies, and the Missing Manual is more focused on editing as opposed to organizing (which is where the bulk of the PE3->PE4 changes happened.)

  • CSS, Design Mode vs Live Mode vs Missing Manual

    Hi,
I downloaded the trial version of DreamWeaver to see if I'd like to purchase it. To get a feeling for it, I've been using the CSS3 Missing Manual and doing the tutorials. Several times I've put code into DreamWeaver then clicked over to Live/Design Modes to see how it was coming along and what was supposed to happen wasn't visible BUT when I copy and past either the CSS or HTML into Coda, it comes out just as the book says it should. Any suggestions as to why?
I just tried to add text shaddow using the following which works in Coda but not DreamWeaver -- and it's really frustrating.
    body{background-color:rgb(255,255,255);border: 3px solid rgb(75,75,75); box-shadow:0 0 15px 5px rgba(51,51,255,1);width:760px; margin-top:20px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto;padding:15px;}
Also, when I add CSS into my webpage in DW Live Mode will show it but Design Mode will not. Is that normal? What is the use of Design Mode vs Live Mode?
    Thank you,
    ct

But the code I listed above doesn't preview (correctly) in either view, but will view correctly in Coda (a cheaper than DreamWeaver webpage builder). I don't understand why. It there a special property to doing  floating that I'm not aware of? Theimage with the blue bloat is from Coda, the other image is from DW. Notice the difference? It's the same code. How can that be? I'm guessing that DW is set up differently but I'm not sure how to change it so that it displays correctly. Any suggestions?

  • Know any books to learn code?

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good
books for beginers on Dreamweaver. More over, I want to learn
    myself the code used.
    Cheers

I spent several weeks learning how to write html using the
Mac's TextEdit. I had tried DW first, but as we all know here, I
couldn't get anywhere without knowing some code. I did some
tutorials and worked on my own html pages until I felt comfortable
with the basics. (I was preparing for a DW workshop, so I had extra
incentive -- and it was very helpful!) Besides, it was interesting
    and even kind of fun.
Books that were helpful for me:
    1. For HTML (not DW), take a look at Head First HTML with CSS
and XHTML by Elisabeth Freeman and Eric Freeman (O'Reilly). The
book may look a little unusual, but it worked for me! (I had tried
several other books first.) Also from the Peachpit Press Visual
Quckstart Guide series, the HTML, XHTML and CSS answered some of my
questions. A book that is now a little older but one with a
straightforward approach that covers the basics is Learning Web
Design, by Jennifer Niederst Robbins (another from O'Reilly). Her
newer book is Web Design in a Nutshell, which is more of a
reference book instead of an instruction guide (it's pretty dense
    and doesn't include tutorials).
    2. For CSS, try the O'Reilly book, CSS, The Missing Manual,
by David Sawyer McFarland. Includes a chapter on Dreamweaver.
    3. For Dreamweaver, someone already mentioned The Missing
Manual. I didn't get far with the Macromedia/Adobe Training from
the Source book/CD (although after working hard on this stuff for a
few weeks, it will probably make more sense to me now). The Adobe
on-line tutorials are good if you can find the ones you need (with
all the Adobe resources on line, it can be challenging to find just
the right ones). The Help files that came with DW seem to talk in
circles, so I have really needed some extra resources.
    Good luck!

  • Cargo management tab is missing in Ocean freight booking

    Hi Experts,
I found cargo management tab is missing in Ocean freight booking/ Transportation cockpit, though hierarchy types assigned for the functionality to create drayage orders.
Please suggest if any configuration is missing.
    Thanks,
    Shakti

    Hi Matt,
you can find associations DRAYAGE_TOR (from booking to freight order(s)) and DRAYTOR_BOOK (from freight order to booking) under the ROOT node of business object /SCMTMS/TOR. If you check those in TA /BOBF/CONF_UI, you can also have a look at the corresponding implementing classes - however, there should be no need to do this
Technically, the references are stored on ITEM_TR level, but as determining the correct references can be tricky, I would strongly recommend to use the above mentioned associations in order to get the pre-carriage order (or booking vice versa), instead of trying to determine them on your own from various DB tables - we already implemented the tricky part in the associations, so there is no need for you to worry about that
    Best regards,
    Sabine

  • Got the PSE 9 Missing Manual in Black and White?

Hey all, I don't normally talk about my books here, but if you recently ordered the Elements 9 Missing Manual from amazon and got it in black and white, please contact them.
They screwed up and somehow put it into their print on demand program instead of shipping the copies from O'Reilly. If you got one of these, get in touch with them and they'll send you a real copy as a replacement. The book should be in color.

    Barbara:
Ordered mine from Amazon on 11/26/10.  Shipping confirmation email received 11/28/10.
    Full color.  No problems.

  • 10.0.2 any books for dummies?

Apple instruction assumes too much for me. Any books  for dummies?

I don't know a "Dummies" book, but Edgar's "GarageBand 10.0 How it Works"  explains it very well with many screenshots. You can buy it as iBook from the Book store, as PDF,  or as printed book from Amazon,

  • How do i edit the info of any book in ibook

previusly it was easy to edit onfo of any book using itune but now with mavericks books are stored in ibook and there is no option for editing info of any book

    @bookarts
exactly the same for me. This is the worst ever released application from Apple IMHO.
All my well kept and organised books and pdf's are now in disorder. Lost their category settings, their author settings and on top of all can't be edited in iBooks anymore and any further. No chance to edit wrong typings and to fill missing information (eg. authors, categories, ...).
I used to organise my papers (mostly PDF's) in iTunes like a document manager, the way I needed them on my various iOS devices and used them for work. I had groupings for my books like computing - networks, computing - guides, computing - iOS, computing - scripting, etc. .... now all is gone and lost. How am I supposed to organise over 1300 papers without any editing possibility (only sections can be assigned, no categories can be, neither can any information be edited/changed/corrected?
And on top of that all: HOW DO I BACKUP / RESTORE MY BOOKS from now on?
The books and PDF's are moved from the iTunes Library, where they were accessible and editable and where I could backup my whole media library on external NAS and storage. How will I get back my books/PDFs in the future if I setup my Mac Pro again from scratch or in case of a disaster (eg. failing disk)? Am I forced to use TimeMachine here?
There is no way to define by myselfs the place where the iBooks are stored on my system. No, they are all moved to some well hidden place into the users-library filling up my (until iBooks/Mavericks) system only SSD hard drive with hidden books. Is this the new strategy of Apple to try to make me under-age?
No editing, very limited organizing, no possibilty to define it's own storage-location, no backup/restore (no export/archive like in most other application like calender, addressbook, mail, etc. ....) what the **** is that?
I like most of Mavericks new additions but this here with iBooks is a mess and complete drawback for a user that liked to read his books on his iOS devices and was well organized.
And to be honest, I seriously consider to migrate back to OS X Mountain Lion just because of this ridiculous implementation of iBooks!

I, too, love everything about my phone. The other day I tried to crash my Z10 by running multiple apps and having videos running in the background. Do you think my Z10 showed any signs of slowing down? Nothing doing! It ran as smooth as silk. I'm very impressed.

  • Missing text in ordered books - Fixed?

I have had the problem with missing text when generating books and calendars. However, after the latest updates (6.0.4) this problem seem to be solved.

Are there anyone else with the same experience?

The same thing happened to me. Although I entered all the text correctly, following instructions, there was no text at all (apart from the title on the cover) printed in the book I ordered. When I complained to Apple, I was sent to the i-photo site but can't find any mention of this problem there. I paid to have the book created according to my specifications, including the text, so I expect Apple to send me another copy, this time correctly printed. I'm using iPhoto version 6.0.3 which came with my brand-new iMac Intel OSX 10.4.6 and if this version has flaws, then it's up to Apple to warn us of the problem. I'll upgrade to iPhoto 6.0.4 but still want Apple to send me the book as I ordered it.

  • Workflow chart of explanation-not understanding "Missing Manual" or tutorials on line

Help, never used public forum before.  I've got the Missing Manual, watched Adobe TV, You Tube tutorials, my head is swimming.  I'm on a mac.  Not wanting to use Iphoto.  I need help creating intelligent organizing system. So, if I use "pictures" to download to I'm getting lost as to what to to do from there via Bridge.  I guess I'm visual and would like a flowchart explaining it.  Any out there?  My question is bigger then this but I'll see if I get any response to this first.  Thanks

You're really the only person who can answer this question for yourself. Here's what I do: I download my photos by dragging the image folder from the card to the desktop, rename the folder (usually it's called 100 CANON or something like that) by date. I then use bridge to keyword the photos and delete any obvious duds, then back up the folder to my storage drive (and to CD if the pics are important) and stick the photos into my own photos folder in documents (I don't use the OS X pictures folder myself, but you could. I just prefer to know that everything is in documents for backup/transfer purposes.)
My photos folder is divided by the brand of camera and within that, by the model, then the date. I can find any particular photo by searching by keyword in bridge or in spotlight or in a Finder window.
You may want to do something very different. There's no one way.

  • Any books available for OS X Leopard Server?

Does anyone know if there are any books available for OS X Leopard Server? I can find some for Tiger but not Leopard. Thanks

Aside from the pretty cool PDF manuals Apple post on their site, I ordered this recently:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/MAC-Server-Essentials-Apple-Training/dp/0321496604/ref=p dbbs_sr2?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1202853792&sr=8-2
I know it's in the UK Store, but you may be able to get hold of it anyway. It's also focused on ACTC training, but I have always found these books excellent resources for learning OS X Server.
    Hope that helps a little,
    Paul

  • Anyone else order Missing Manual v4 direct from oreilly site?

I preordered a copy of the version 4 Missing Manual from oreilly.com (which said estimated date October 2005) in hopes of receiving it as soon as possible. I have students who have purchased v4, so I am anxious to have the book in order to better assist them.
Currently I am unable to get an estimated ship date from the oreilly customer support; my response from them used vague words like waiting for replenishment of stock. So I am wondering if anyone else ordered direct from oreilly and what their experience is?
    Barb O

Thought that I would come back to this thread and post that my Missing Manual for Elements 4 has just arrived.
As an aside, I will also mention that the tracking at the oreilly site was never updated to show progress of my order. This was a very frustrating ordering experience, but at least the book finally arrived.
Yesterday someone posted that she had received this book from Amazon, so it seems that multiple sources are starting to ship.
