Missing sidecar bug ?

In my workflow I pre-process images in a tmp directory using Bridge & ACR & Photoshop. I end up with a raw (.CR2) image, and a jpeg image and sometimes an .XMP sidecar file. If I adjusted anything in ACR I get the sidecar, if I didn't, then no sidecar. The problem is that when I move my files to my archive directory, the one managed by LR, then for the files with no sidecar I get the little sidecar icon in the upper right of the thumbnail with a question mark. The icon and question mark go away when you click on it, however, the file name ends in ".cr2+jpeg" and that won't go away. And yes, I have my library configured to treat raw and jpg files as seperate images.
Any suggestions as to how to make this go away? (I'm using that latest LR as of today's date)
Carey

I think you'd have much better results if you simply brought images into LR, and use PS and Bridge later, if needed.
Of course, you may have immutable reasons to not do so, but perhaps we can suggest a workaround.....

  • Feedback about glitches, misbehaviors errors, missing features, bugs

I couldn't find a thread where I could submit feedback about glitches, misbehaviors errors, missing features, bugs (and things of that nature) encountered when using Edge and needed a place where I could collect them writing about them as they happen and before I forget.
This is not a whishlist, rather simply a place where I'd like to send feedback and hopefully get clarifications on something that may be a non working feature, erratic behavior or a bug.
That said here is the first one of them:
    Where: Edge Animate > Library>Assets
What: Impossible to remove from the list the folder and/or assets
    When: Always
How: After adding asset (add an image to the composition) remove the image from the composition. Then if you would like to remove that asset, there isn't an option to do so. The contextual menu only offer one choice "Reveal in Finder" (on a Mac) which is basically reading the path of the asset and opening the containing folder for the selected asset.
Only removing the file or folder from the location (which Edge has stored as a path) would yield a removal from the list of the Library>Asset The item will be removed from the list when, upon right clicking and selecting "Reveal in Finder" Edge will not find the asset and ask the user if they want to reload the content of that list which basically will refresh the pointers and if the asset won't be found then the entry for it will be removed from the list. (Quite a cumbersome hoop-jumping just to remove an asset from the list)
Why: Users wanting to manage and update the content of the Assets may want to see some listed but may want to ignore other entries that have been replaced with different assets, but they want to keep the files within the folder where they were originally placed.
For instance adding images 001.jpg through 100.jpg  and later removing all odd images or even ones from the composition, the Library will still list them in the assets unless removed from that folder "physically" and placing them somewhere else doing an "update" in the library pane later as explained above. Leaving the unused assets in the list when not necessary adds to clutter and having to perform a manual workaround to update the UI isn't very efficient
(a minor missing feature... not a feature request to start this feedback thread)
Hope this helps keep track of issues, but if there's a better way/system, will be glad to use that instead.
    Cheers!

Bug Reporting (is there anywhere users can provide feedback about bugs/program's glitches?)
Not knowing where to list what would appear to be bugs/glitches I'll keep adding them here and hopefully someone at the Edge Team will look into it eventually as time allows
Issue: Min W in Symbols' stage property won't stick to percentage.
    To reproduce behavior:
    - Create symbol,
    - Double click to edit created symbol,
    - When in Symbol Edit mode, click on the stage (once),
    - Edit the Min W of the symbol's stage properties on the left "Properties" panel,
    - Without changing the value (which will be zero), toggle px to percentage,
    - Save your project,
...et voilà by magic the property you just toggled reverts itself to px
(To make it stick apparently it's necessary to change the value in the text field then toggle px to % and it will be properly kept when saving.)
side note: I don't know if that's something that can be a factor in causing the glitch, but each time a project is saved and a the user is "inside" a symbol's stage, the values in the properties panel will display the main stage properties and then will go load again the properties of the symbol being edited.
    Cheers!

  • LR2.7 "Missing Sidecar Files" issue

    Hello,
    LR2-7, Win32 Vista:
in a folder of 182 photos within catalog of 16 k photos:
suddenly, most photos show in Library view and the stripline a top right corner question mark and icon stating "sicedar file missing". In Catalog preferences the checkbox for "automatically write changes to XMP files" is not set (was never set), the folder does not contain any other files than the photos:
    - in the beginning of this problem, these were cr2 files. It was then possible, to click on the icon/questionmark and trigger a dialogue "forget sidecar / continue?"  but only for single files, NOT for a selection on click - come on.
    - I converted the entire folder to dng files (my usual setting), NOW, the question marks all are still there, but NO dialog available any more on click.
    - I pressed ctrl-S to create a sidecar file - zero reaction, nothing. Is there a secret place for sidecar files I would have to know?
I can of course remove photos from the catalog, and re-sync - this cures the issue.
    - Up until now, I had a reliable catalog of approx. 16k photos - is this the end of it? I do do backups, but I can't afford a "sometimes" performance of Lightroom.
    - what do I do about development settings already done when removing /re-syncing photos to get rid of the icons and "missing sidecars" (I don't miss them, why does LR)??
Anyways, this issue pops up on the forum on 1.1 and 2.3 versions... any sugggestions how to go about this on 2.7? Is this a feature?
    thanks,
    Gerd

    Dear dj_paige,
    thank you for your note,
please see my comment to your email below in your text
DNG photos do not have sidecar files. So, their absence is not a problem.
    - I know, I never generated any sidecar files and understand that there should be none for DNG. However, for the CR2 files, LR displayed the prominent ? and tooltip "sidecar file missing", and this persists even after converting to DNG.
I'm not sure what problem re-synching will cure. I do not recommend you "remove photos from  the catalog, and re-sync", as you lose information that is catalog only (such as collection membership, edit history, color labels, pick flags and a few other things). In fact, I think it is a terrible idea.
    - agreed. For this reason, I sent a note to the forum
If your catalog within Lightroom is working properly (and you haven't really convinced me that there is anything wrong), then again I don't know what the problem is.
    - See above: for the CR2 files, LR displayed the prominent ? and tooltip "sidecar file missing", and this persists even after converting to DNG. Nothing else is wrong, HOWEVER, this icon and message is nonsense and should not be displayed
It sounds as if you are using the metadata as some form of backup of your catalog. It is not a backup; metadata enables you to share *some* information from your Lightroom with other applications. Other information in your catalog is not stored in the metadata written to files. The only way to create a backup of your catalog is to actually make a backup of the catalog file, which is a Lightroom option you can turn on. I consider making backups of your catalog file to be mandatory.
    - NO, your assumption is incorrect. I do backup the entire catalog file.
    Best regards,
    Gerd

  • Missing sidecar - remove missing file status

I have raw files that had metadata written to XMP sidecar files, the XMP are now missing, and I don't want to have LR create new sidecar files. The files show up as missing in the catalog. How can I get rid of the missing status and the little "metadata status warning" icons without having to write new sidecar files? If I can't that's pretty insidious and I would call it a bug.
    Thanks

Writing to xmp and then deleting the xmp is how I got to this stage. They show up in the Missing Files folder in the library tab of the library module. If I hover over the little question mark icon it says sidecar file is missing. If I click on the question mark it writes the metadata to xmp, even if "auto write changes to xmp" is unchecked in the catalog settings>metadata preferences.
But there's no way to delist them from missing files without creating a new xmp, as far as I can tell. You're basically stuck with "missing files" warning forever unless you create new xmps.
It's pretty annoying. I'd call it a bug. Essentially it's probably just a scenario that wasn't considered or accounted for in development. Creating missing file folder on demand - I like that.
Thanks for your input, let me know if you come up with anything

  • Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
    1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
    - Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
    - Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
    - Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
    - Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
    - Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
    - when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
    - Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
    - Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
    - faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
    2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
    - iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
    - VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
    - Flight tracker widget
    - Exchange support (probably in the works)
    - Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
    - Bluetooth sync
    - DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
    - Data/File storage with sync
    - TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
    - Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
    3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
    - GPS
    - 3G
    - LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
    - Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
    My wish list:
    1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
    2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
    3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
    4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
    5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

  • Missing sidecar files

I've just discovered a few directories containing my CR2 Raw files are showing a question mark in the Lightroom Gallery. This says that
"The following files (related to this photo) were present before, but are now missing", with the name of the .xmp file, and "The photo negative file is still present. Do you want to forget about the sidecar files, or continue to track them?"
I searched the forum and found one question on the same issue, but no answer.
I have copied over a few of these files from by back-up directory, but the question marks have not dissappeared.
Any ideas how I might have done this. (I didn't knowingly delete xmp files). and how can I rescue the situation. Do I risk losing my keywording and devlop settings?
    Thanks
    Colin

I'm pretty certain that the ? does not relate to the image's location being moved, as there has been no movement there at all.
The xmp files in fact contain GPS data. TThe images still show the gps data in the metada column so does that mena the lrcat file hold that as well?
If so it seems that I can tell LR to "Forget" the xmp file.
Is there a way to find all images where the sidecar is missing?
    Ta
    Colin

  • Missing plugins bug?

    Hi.
I'm using Logic Pro X. I keep encountering a really annoying problem when working in Logic. After awhile, when trying to add plugins to an audio track, it says the plugin is missing. I can get around this by restarting Logic, but after awhile the same problem occurs. I've tried re-installing Logic, but that didn't help.
Has anyone encountered the same problem?

    Leon
Thanks for the suggestion. The problem with that approach is
I have a lot of other topics and information set to the Online
conditional tag (since this printed manual comes from the help
file). I guess I would have to set it to its own conditional tag,
like Script or something and then turn that off. I may end up doing
that in the source so I can just turn off Scripting when I export
to a doc file after it goes through the next iteration of language
    translation.
Anyway, to fix this problem, I opened the folder inside
DreamWeaver and used several different regular expressions to find
and remove all the scripts and the roadmap images as well.
In nearly all cases this seems to have resolved the problem.
Hopefully Adobe takes a closer look at what's happening during doc
export. We rely on this to generate our printed documentation for
our foreign languages, and this little bug has taken up a good
portion of my week trying to isolate and resolve the problem.

  • JasperReports Tutorial: Missing Record Bug

A few customers have pointed out a bug in the Generating Reports and PDFs From a Web Application tutorial at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/reports.html. I have to admit that I am somewhat embarrased that I never noticed that the first record is missing from the reports.
I am trying to get the fix pushed out this week. In the meantime, for those who are using code from the tutorial, you should know that you need to either call beforeFirst() or execute() on the rowset before passing the rowset to the JRResultSetDataSource constructor.

  • Button to close Full Screen in Menu bar is missing. Bug or Configuration issue?

    Hi,
OS 10.7 has the option to view applications in Full Screen mode.
According to the demo video on the Apple site, there should be a button right to the Spotlight icon to close the Full Screen Mode.
On my Macbook Pro I don't see this button.
Is this a bug or a configuration issue on my system?\
    Regards,
    Anthonie

After using full-screen mode for a while between scrivener full-screen and safari full-screen, now I want to turn of the fullscreen of safari, but that icon that should appear whenever you put the mouse up on the right corner, nothing appears. So, I do not have any option to turn off the full-screen mode in safari-except when I put my mouse on the very down and push one more time, then dock appears, and there I can quit safari, but as I said I do not want to quit Safari, I want to turn of fullscreen mode of Safari... Is this a bug or what?

  • Calling back the missed calls bugs

My iphone has a passcode to unlock the screen, If somebody called me and I didn't answer (missed call), and then trying to call the missed call back, when I slide the missed call bar/icon on the notification center (not the main slider) it prompts me to directly a real phone calling without the needs of typing my passcode!!!

  • Missing features/bugs in ATV2 so far

read this elsewhere, thought it might be usefull there.
    1. Nested folders within Movies and TV Shows are now gone. TV Show seasons are presented as separate listings that are not distinguished from other shows. Movies cannot be organized into collections (such as the “Star Wars” or “Batman”).
    2. iTunes Extras and LPs don’t work.
    3. AirTunes Speakers are gone.
    4. Favorites within Radio are gone.
    5. 480p, 1080i and 1080p output (only does 720p now) is gone.
    6. Video playlists don’t continue after first video when using the Apple IR Remote.
    7. Audio track descriptions (Commentary, Stereo, etc) don’t show up in the audio pop-up menu within a video.

I have had ATV1 for a couple of years and just got my ATV2 this weekend.
    1. The ATV2 will NOT stream to ANY AirTunes speakers. Example: if playing Internet Radio, it will only output through the Digital Audio output to your receiver, it will NOT stream to any Airport Express or Apple TV 1.
    2. The AppleTV 2 will not act as an AirTunes speaker to an AppleTV 1. For 2 years, I have used my Apple TV1 to stream Internet Radio and Music throughout my house to 4 Airport Expresses. Now, the AppleTV2 will not stream to any of those. And the Apple TV 1 cannot stream to the ATV2. You HAVE to go back to having a dedicated PC or Mac to stream music throughout house if you built an Airport Express AirTunes system.
    3. I accepted the fact that Apple dropped the hard drive and ability to store and play music locally. DIdn't expect it to not be able to be an AirTunes speaker to an ATV1.

  • Command-Tab switcher missing apps

Many, many times every day when I do a Command-Tab to invoke the app switcher, running apps are missing from the list of icons. Usually it's the one I last was in, and want to get to.
This really cramps my productivity. Happens to anyone else? Any fix?
Also, I thought the app icons in the switcher were supposed to be in decending order of last use. At least that seems to be the normal pattern. But very often recent apps appear in the middle or the end of the list.
This has occurred on several Macs, from 10.4.3 to 10.4.5. Is the app switcher just not working right?
    Thanks!
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have noticed a pattern to the missing icons bug when doing a Command-Tab to bring up the Application Switcher (usually the missing icon annoyingly is the previous app one was in, precisely the app to which one wants to go):
If one does a Command-Tab twice in succession, the second time the missing icon returns.

  • Why do my recently edited RAW files lack sidecars?

I've asked about this recently and now can describe the problem better. My previous question (Aug. 1 "Bridge Thumbnails & Preview no longer indicate edit") received answers suggesting deleting cache, which had no effect on the problem. I've now noticed that those edited RAW files lack sidecar files, although they open normally in RAW, displaying their edited state in both the image and the panels sliders.
    I'm using a MacPro 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad-core Intel Xenon, running version 10.6.8, Photoshop CS6 13.0.5
This problem only affects recently edited RAW files (August 2013), with their thumbnails in Bridge showing the edit symbol (upper right), but  no evidence of any editing. When I open these files in RAW, the image and the panel sliders show all of my edit correctly. Although the edit is displayed,  the sidecar files are missing from the respective RAW file on my HD. Both RW2 and RAF filles are affected. When I convert these files to DNG, the thumbnails in Bridge then correctly show evidence of the edit.
Where are those missing sidecar files?

    grprt wrote:
…I've already "Purged Cache for Folder", twice.
That's not what I said.  Let's try again:
Now you have to go to each folder in Bridge and go to the Tools menu >Cache > Build and Export Cache to create the missing XMP files.
Note that we're talking about different commands in the Tools menu, different menu items.
Did you restart Bridge after changing the cache preferences and before selecting the command to Build and Export Cache?

  • Purging unnecessary sidecar files?

Is it possible to purge the .xmp sidecar files? I created them for all of my images in 1.0 to move/copy the library to my laptop for this trip and now I have >4k .xmp files that I guess are largely unnecessary.
Can I just dump them now?
    Barrie

Now Lightroom reports lots of missing sidecar files :( - the only obvious way to clear them is to manually discard the missing file on each image.

  • Missing plugin error in Yosemite's Mailapp

OS  10.10  mail app does not work properly.
When trying to add an attachment to a new mail ( picture pdf or a simple text file) or when opening a mail with attachment I get the info " missing plugin" (fehlendes plugin). After closing the editor for new mails it is impossible to open there mail editor again.
Incoming mails are ok bit it is impossible to send answer.
Closing the mail app and open it it again allows to send mails again but if I try to attach a file or I open a mail with attachment everything is blocked again.
Frustrating as an update of java to 8.20 did not solve the missing plugin bug.
Does anyone have an idea. Reinstalling Yosemite did not help!
    best regards Ed

    Problem finally solved !
The missing plugin was not the only problem.
Yosemite did not behave as expected!
As nothing seemed to work and the basic error must have been somewhere in my user settings I have completely set up a new system on my mac book pro.
Thanks to my backups nearly everything has been re-installed now, I got rid of some old data and programs and yosemite works as I expected.
My MacBook Pro now is even faster than before .......
Now lets see what the update to Yosemite will do to the 4 MacMinis in my office...
I hope this will work more fluent.
What is not working and will need some time to reinstall properly is Parallels. Seems that I need an PII-update
