Mixed column forms in Planning

I've seen Planning 9.3.x forms which mix closed (read-only) and open (write) periods in columns.
For example, Jan-Jun display existing data as read-only (closed) periods, and Jul-Dec display amounts which may be modified.
My hunch is that substitution variables can be used to achieve this, but am not finding instructions in the Oracle/Hyperion documentation.
Any suggestions or pointers to decent documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Abhishek and John,
Thanks for your replies. Although the info was helpful, I found the direct answer, as follows:
The Scenario dimension provides settings to designate time ranges. The documentation states
Time Periods
Assign each scenario a range of years and time periods, and specify the Beginning Balance time period. When users access data forms, they can enter into that scenario only years and periods within the range. Years and periods outside of the range display as read-only. You can modify the time range.
So, by entering, for example, July as the start month, Jan-Jun appear as read-only, with July through December showing as editable in the forms (assuming the user has write access to the other dimensions represented).
The method you suggested would be useful in 'splicing' data from multiple sources onto a single form.
Best regards,
Dan

    Hi ..
Can you please suggest on the following error, which i am facing the issue while opening data form in Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.4 .
Unable to load the following resource: Error: too many columns- form won't
    Regards,
    Vasu

It is something around 256 if I am not mistaken, I dread to think what a form with 700 columns is like to work with.

  • Error while saving data form in planning

    Hi,
We are getting the below error while saving the data form in planning
"There was an error during the save process"
i believe our form is not exceeds 255 columns we were able to access the same form till yesterday
can any one please help me on this

One reason could be that the blocks that you are trying to save are locked either through excel-addin or someone else might be updating the same combinations. I have encountered such issues earlier and got the same error. Check if there are any locks in essbase while you are saving the planning data.

  • How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning

    Hi,
I need for building Data Form in Planning 11.1.2.0 with table columns that would be consist of (example 1):
    - Nov 2011 - Actual
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Forecast
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast
Note: current period is "Feb" and current year "2012" has been got from Essbase substitution variables.
How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning app using @relative function for period and year dimensions and Essbase substitution variables?
Example 2 (for current period is "Mar" and current year "2012"):
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Actual
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Apr 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast

As I know you can't use such range or functions in form member selection. Below are couple of options:
Use bunch of variables for each scenario and the number depends on how many months you want to display (18 months etc..)
pre-fill the data for related months and years and use data suppress options.

  • Creating data form in planning

Hello! I am using EPM 11.1.2.1.0
I want to get the data form in planning:
    POV: Entity(E), Currency(Local), Version (Version1)
Pages: Year (FY13, FY14, FY15), Period (_all days_)
    Row: Account (all accounts)
Column: Scenario (*Plan*, Actual, Deviation: Plan - Actual, The percentage of the plan execution: Actual / Plan)
All Acounts is TB Last (Balance), Period (Year-Quarter-Month-Day), Scenario (Plan, Actual)
I have filled all account for Plan Scenario on quarters (but for days and moths are empty, because planning of budget is quarterly) and for Actual Scenario I have data on days, moths, quarters, year.
I need a data form on specific date of Plan!
    And I create Scenario member Plan_qtr in planning with formula with essbase substitution variable VarDate : Local->FY13->"Version1"->"Plan"->@RELATIVE(&VarDate,3);
(I think, planning user variable can not be used in the formula member in planning), but how to dynamically change the value of substitution variable from planning?
Is there a way to link Essbase Substitution Variables and Planning User Variables?
That is, is it possible to somehow change the value of substitution variable in essbase, changing the value of Planning User Variables on the data form?
Please, advice others methods for building this data form.
    Big thanks for any help!!!

    Hi,
all data exists at the intersection of all dimensions - so I do not see how your form would work without certain dimensions.
However, you may want to create certain 'non-members' like 'NoPeriod', 'NoEntity' if for some reason you need data that exists without reference to these dimensions. (You would still have to select them in your form design)
What are you trying to achieve with regards to your second question - is this just presentational?
    regards,
    Robert.

First of all those errors look more related to HBR, though if it worked before I would restart services then log into the planning app and then try again.
Have you tried a different form as well one without an ampersand &.

This occurs only for one of my applications, other work fine.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards,

Have you migrated to 11.1.2.1 lately?
Restart EAS and Planning. Login to Planning as a Planning admin, then login to EAS with the Planning/Essbase admin - Do not use the default admin user.
Check if you are able to associate the outline thereafter.

  • Unable to view forms in Planning 9.3.1

I have created few forms in Planning.I can see the forms in the left window pane and I am able to open it up.However when I go to Admin->Manage dataforms section I do not see any forms.I don't even see the folder.
I restarted the Planning services but no success.Does anyone know what needs to be done in order to solve this issue ?
This is 9.3.1 planning and Oracle is the backend.

How are you accessing planning via workspace.
If so have you tried going directly, if not have you tried going through workspace.
Are you getting any Javascript errors, check the corner of your browser.
    What browser are you using.
Have you tried from another machine to rule out a browser issue.
Can you create a new folder, does it appear?
    Cheers

    Dear Suresh
I checked the Views V_T7XSSSERSAR & V_T7XSSSERSARC using SM31 in the backend, but I don't found a service assign to Subareas with Text "Print Confirmation Form."
I also check the view V_T7XSSSERVSRV and not exits a service with Service Link Text "Print Confirmation Form..."
Can I put this service as a link in a Subarea?

  • Dynamic Input form with PLAN and Actual Confusion (YEAR-row / MONTH-Column)

    Hi Guru's,
    Assume that
    Row Axis: YEAR
    Column Axis: MONTH
    Page Axis: VERSION
From the VERSION dimension, we re able to get Budget Year and the latest Actual Month.
For example, As u see below, the budget year is 2014 and we retreive + or - 2 years of budget year which is 2014.
And the latest actual month is Jun.
So is it possible to make a dynamic report that can retreive actual data for the budget year and latest actual month of selected VERSION and also rest of the cells should be inputtable.
By the way, we have a dimension which named as for the PLAN , ACTUAL etc.
So what do you suggest for that case?  Is there any way to handle without VBA?
    Thanks to all in adv.

    Hi Sadi,
I agree Vadim, you do not need extra dimension for time. You can "report" in Bex analyzer with this format but BPC reporting/input schedules is not dynamic enough. Because you can not use property in axis but in Bex it is possible. Maybe you can change input form design because where is other contex in your form, 2012.01 what, price or stocks or sth? You have to specify account and entity. I think  it is useless design to input data. I added figure for sales model. In this figure, you can manage actual / budget with "if" and "today" excel formulas. And you can easily link your olap member in column axis. I think it will help you.

  • What is the significance of "cost" column in explain plan

    Hi,
Can anyone explain what is the meaning of the values which we get in the cost column in the explain plan..For Ex : Cost : 4500 . What does this value mean...and is it measured in which form of units...i mean seconds, nanoseconds etc

    kingfisher,
Ok one more link for you but I shall quote the text also here,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/optimops.htm#i82005
The cost is an estimated value proportional to the expected resource use needed to execute the statement with a particular plan. The optimizer calculates the cost of access paths and join orders based on the estimated computer resources, which includes I/O, CPU, and memory.
    And few paragraphs down,
    13.4.1.3.3 Cost
The cost represents units of work or resource used. The query optimizer uses disk I/O, CPU usage, and memory usage as units of work. So, the cost used by the query optimizer represents an estimate of the number of disk I/Os and the amount of CPU and memory used in performing an operation. The operation can be scanning a table, accessing rows from a table by using an index, joining two tables together, or sorting a row set. The cost of a query plan is the number of work units that are expected to be incurred when the query is executed and its result produced.
The access path determines the number of units of work required to get data from a base table. The access path can be a table scan, a fast full index scan, or an index scan. During table scan or fast full index scan, multiple blocks are read from the disk in a single I/O operation. Therefore, the cost of a table scan or a fast full index scan depends on the number of blocks to be scanned and the multiblock read count value. The cost of an index scan depends on the levels in the B-tree, the number of index leaf blocks to be scanned, and the number of rows to be fetched using the rowid in the index keys. The cost of fetching rows using rowids depends on the index clustering factor. See "Assessing I/O for Blocks, not Rows".
The join cost represents the combination of the individual access costs of the two row sets being joined, plus the cost of the join operation.
Now I guess if you read this part, it should be pretty clear what cost is.Cost is an evlaution of the resource that is estimated by Oracle for every step incurred in the uery execution. There are no of steps and each may involve doing IO,consuming CPU and/or using memory.Cost is a factor which oracle uses combining all of these 3 (depending on the version) together to propose the work done or expected to be done in exeuting a query. So this actualy should represent the time spent exactly on each and every step. That's what the objective frm cost is.But at the moment, this is not there. There amy be a situation that cost is shown as very high but query is working fine. There are woraround which can bring the cost down for example using and tweaking optimizer_index_cost_adj parameter , we can propose oracle regarding our indexes and it may pick up lesser cost evaluation. What is mentioned is that this model is becoming more and more mature and in the next releases, we may see that cost is representing exactly the time that we would spend inthe query. At the moment, its not there. So as Chris mentioned,Tuning for low cost only is not a good way.
I suggest you grab a copy of JL's book.He has explained it much better in his book.
Hope I said some thing useful.

  • Data column in Manual planning Layout

    Hi,
I have a KF in data column and year as a dynamic in the data column. Year is restricted to 2006 and 2007 in the planning level. When layout is executed is displays 2 columns 2006 and 2007 other then lead cols which as expected. Now at this stage I can enter data for both 2006 and 2007. What I want is that when layout is executed the col for 2006 should be display only and the user should be able to enter data only for the col 2007. How can this be achieved?
    Thank you,
    sam

Goto the planning area and create a data slice. When you get to the data slice screen on the right hand side in Bps0, you will see list of characteristics and go to the fiscal year and in that in from column, enetr 2006. Save the model
Execute the layout and you will see the cell for 2006 greyed out.

  • Unable to see the forms in planning applications....

    Hi ...
I noticed that in planning many application forms are not working....
Its showing that *"The Form is Invalid..Check log for details"* ....Please suggest me
    Regards,
    Prabhas

Either your Essbase cubes are down or forms are really invalid based on definition.
First review all of your Planning logs on your application server on 11.1.1 environments this will be in <INSTALL_DIRVE>\Hyperion\logs\services -- review the out and error files for planning.
Confirm you can connect to each essbase database for the respective forms.
On a simple form verify the dimensions both within planning and within Essbase. Planning will not generally let you delete members which are on a form. If someone directly edited Essbase and removed a key member or something more invasive that will definitely cause issues as Planning must structually match Essbase.
Since you seem to be new to Essbase based on one of your other queries I suggest you open a case up with Oracle Support to actually get someone to look at your system real-time.

  • Formula Column in Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1

    Hi ,
I need to create a Formula Column in web form taking excel sheet as reference for creating the formula.
Excel sheet has formula = iferror((A/B),0,(A/B)), where A and B are columns.I need to create a column C and has to put this excel formula using formula column functionality.
Please let me know all possible solutions for replicating this excel formula in formula column,
    Thanks.

Here's why this is a bit tricky.  You would likely want to use a formula something like this:
    IfThen(IsError(Eval([A]/[B])), 0, Eval([A]/[B]))
But here's the problem . . . you can't pass the IsError function a calculation, even when it's enclosed in the Eval function.  At least I've never gotten this to work.
So what you have to do is create another column . . . call it column [F] for this example.  In that column, place the formula [A]/[B].  Hide this column.
Then for your formula column, use the following formula:
    IfThen(IsError([F]), 0, Eval([A]/[B]))
    You could alternatively use this:
    IfThen(IsError([F]), 0, [F])
The key is to use a hidden column to perform your calculation, and then evaluate whether that hidden column produces an error.
    Hope this helps,
    - Jake
