Mixing as3 and as2 objects

I'd just like to check something. When I was trying out a bit
of as3, I tried having as3 objects, but as2 code on the timeline,
so I'm guessing that you can't nest or load as3 objects inside as2
movieclips because it probably treats everything like it's as2, so
as3 objects don't work..
But does it work the other way around? To have as3 objects
nesting as2 "objects" or loading as2 swfs?
Or is it either-either, no mixing whatsoever?

you can load as2 swfs into as3 swfs. to communicate between
the two, use the localconnection class.

    Beginners Guide sound installation -- OSS and ALSA objective features needed
    Hi,
    In most wiki pages i just edit the things that i think need editing. Just look at the oss history
    In all those cases i didn't really saw a need to ask for permission.. that would kinda destroy the wiki idea.
    However i want to change the sound instructions in the beginners guide so i made a copy of the entire guide and the part that i changed there is: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Use … ling_Sound now i have a slight issue there. As you can see i'm in favor of OSS and because you can spot that it's not objective. Now i would ask 2 things.
    1. Could you all post your features of OSS and ALSA
    2. Once that's done can i have permission to place that section in the beginners guide? that will also include removing the sound installation from the beginners guide which i already did in my version
    My personal reason to do this. i've read this  and am since then pro OSS and against the ALSA/PulseAudio combo. i think that combo needs to get out of linux (most notably Fedora and Ubuntu) ASAP. and oss needs to go back into the linux kernel
    Thank you for your time,
    Mark

    I'm an alsa/pulse user, so I'll give a bit of the 'other side'.
    Alsa/pulse
    Pros:-
    network sound
    advanced connection of sink/source (including merging sinks)
    bluetooth support!
    highly supported by existing apps, either through directly supporting Pulse or through its alsa plugin (you should not need to recompile properly-written apps which do not assume they should write audio data directly to hardware, I think I only needed to recompile mpd on my system)
    Cons:-
    Setup isn't the easiest. Can't comment vs OSS4 because I haven't tried it
    OSS4
    Pros:-
    Everyone seems to say sound quality is better. I guess that's because they're comparing it with dmix alsa. Use pulse with alsa and you should not notice any difference in sound quality though.
    Cons:-
    Most apps nowadays default output to alsa. Meaning OSS plays them using an alsa plugin.
    USB support is admittedly skimpy.
    EDIT: Having read the sound article you referred to, my only comment is that the writer really has it in for Pulse... 3 seconds latency, where'd he get that from? I use pulse for audio recording (when I'm lazy to fire up JACK) and while there IS latency, its definitely in the ms range.
    Thanx for the input

    markg85, libflashsupport isn't needed. [1]
    pacman -Ql oss | grep flash
    If you don't know, please don't put in wiki, this could cause unnecessary problems.  As for the mms section:
    If your stream sounds ugly in totem like it did with me then you could try to play it with another codec like ffmpeg (mplayer). That "fixed" the issue for me. This will not fix the issue that somehow pops up in gstreamer when playing MMS streams but it will give you the option to play it with good sound quality. Playing it in mplayer is simple:
    # mplayer mmsh://yourstreamurl
    Could you fix this?  ffmpeg is not a codec .  Also define ugly, and what is somehow?
    markg85 wrote:Thanx a lot for your feedback. i will certainly use it when i make more edits.
    As for the things you didn't know. As soon as i fully understand how i can get a microphone working in OSS i will add that to the wiki as well. Unless you already know it.. in that case, feel free to add it.
    For the mic, I did get mine going.  Can't remember just how I did mine (sorry, think I had to disable one of the inputs),  but do remember to prevent it from passing through the speakers had to disable "Misc Microphone".

    For libflashsupport on the same page you linked it clearly states:
    #  Flash V9 and V10 require libflashsupport to output sound via OSS. Typically a 32-bit version of the library is required.
    # Flash V10 has a 64-bit version which requires a 64 bit libflashsupport.
    Also i tested it with and without libflashsupport. On archlinux (x64 running here) there most certainly is a need for libflashsupport when you want to have sound in your flash. And yes i tested the archlinux OSS version and the mercurial version (running now) bith need it  installed manually! On my pc sound in flash didn't work without it but did with it. So, no not removing from the wiki as it's needed. But i see you removed it for me! please do NOT do that if you didn't even verified it. I use flash 10 x64 and i need it!
    As for the ffmpeg "codec" changed it to backend.
    And i did get the microphone working near perfect: http://www.4front-tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13192
    Now for some news you all might like.
    On my school i need to do an investigation to whatever i want and i'm heavily thinking about investigating the pros/cons of alsa compared to oss (or oss compared to alsa). That investigation will take from monday next week till next mondey till friday 23 of oktober. In that investigation i'm going to do some in depth look of alsa and oss and that will include the usability as well.
    Following up on that investigation i will spend another 8 weeks on my school making a volume control application that can be used with alsa and oss and easily expandable with other sound systems. The goal of this is to make one sound application that can manage (in the first place) alsa and oss. oss is going to be implemented and alsa is probably going to be dummy implemented because it's likely way to much for me to implement both.
    Before you get to exited, both projects (investigating and making the application) are just made up today and i just don't know if both will get accepted by my school. I asked one teacher and he liked the idea a lot and could potentially have a value for the sound management under linux. Once i do get this started i will involve the community (YOU!) with this since this project can't be done without the community specially the investigation.
    And once i start and have something to tell/ask i will blog about it on http://blog.mageprojects.com
    edit::
    And this idea already got dumped. read more a few posts down or click: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 34#p612634

  • DAO and Domain Object

    hi,
    Normally when i want to persist a domain object like Customer object to a database, my statements will be below,
    // code from my facade
    Customer cust = new Customer();
    cust.setFirstName("myname");
    cust.setLastName("mylastname");
    // set another attributes
    cust.create();
    with this code i have a CustomerPersistence object to handler for create this customer record to a database. Now j2ee have a DAO pattern. So my question is,
    1.where is a domain object within DAO pattern? --> because of we can reused domain object.
    2.DTO is Domain Object, isn't it?
    3.when i look at some articles about DAO, many of it will present in this way
    facade -->create DTO --> call DAO (plus something about factory pattern)
    i never see something like this
    facade --> domain object --> dao
    any suggestion?
    anurakth
    sorry for my english!!

    Hi,
    I am a bit confused about implementation of the domain model and I wondered if you could help. My main concern is that I am introducing too many layers and data holders into the mix. Here is what I am thinking.
    DTO - used to carry data between the presentation and the services layer
    Service Class - coordinates the calling of domain objects
    Domain Object - models a domain entity, service layer logic specific to this object is to be implemented here.
    Data Object - an exact representation of a database table. many to many relationship between domain object and data object.
    Hibernate DAO Class - has no properties, just methods used for read and writing the object to the database. It is passed in the Data Object for persistence. Is it wrong that the DAO contains no properties?
    Perhaps the domain object will contain each data object it is comprised of. I was originally going to keep calls to DAOs in the Services class (as recommended in http://jroller.com/page/egervari/20050109#how_to_change_services_logic ) but I am thinking that each domain object could expose a save method, and that method would co-ordinate persisting itself to the various tables it is derived from.
    Does this sound resonable? I have trouble finding a pattern on the net that clealy defines the Domain Model. I was tempted to map Domain Objects directly to database tables, and simply persist the Domain Object, but this 1-1 relationship may not always hold true.
    Thanks.

  • Reg Differrences between SynBo and Data Object

    Hi,
            I want to know the architectural diffrences between a SyncBo of MI 2.5 and Data Object of NWM 7.1.  As it is given in help.sap.com documentation I think A data object support multiple levels of parent- child hirearchy where as a SyncBo is limited to one level of Header and Items.Similarly do any other differences exist?
    2) In what way A data Object concept is better than that of a Synco.?
    3) For manipulating the data of a data Object on Front end, Can we Use the existing SmartSync API of MI 2.5, or a seperate API for client side is going to be released?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajesh

    Hello Rajesh,
    1. The differences are small. You pretty much highlighted the biggest one (multi child node). Other differences exist in the fact that a SyncBO is linked to a backend BAPI as the DO is not (you would usually create the DO with the fields you need and then have backend adapters to fill it). Lifecycle of the DO is also different. Even release, non destructive change can happen and old application as well as new application will work at the same time. I can list a couple more, but I think you get that a SyncBO is different than a DO (even if in our development we still get mix both wording:))
    2. Yes DO is a better concept than SyncBO.
    3. There are 3 ways of accessing API on the client side. The first is the old SmartSync API which is only used in backward compatibility application (MAM for example). It should not be used for new development, but only to leverage existing one. After that you have two new frameworks for laptop and for PDA that you can find in NWDS 7.1. They reviewed the naming so I am not sure of the current ones, but I think it is something like Mobile Application for Handheld and Mobile Application for Laptop. Those two new framework uses WebDynPro flavored UI and provide access to the sync/data layer.
    Thank you,
    Julien.

  • Migrate existing code of AS3 to AS2 - URLRequest, URLLoader

    Hi,
    I have written code to read an XML file by using URLRequest and URLLoader in ActionScript 3.0. Code is pasted below. This runs well in AS3.  Problem I am facing is because I wrote this in AS3, I am not able to use the DateChooser component in another part of the flash module because it seems like DateChooser component is not supported in AS3. So I want to migrate my below AS3 code back to AS2.
    **** Code in AS3 (I need help in writing equivalent code in AS2) :-
    var xmlText:XML ;
    var xmlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("myFile.xml");
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    xmlLoader.load(xmlReq);
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,xmlLoaded);
    function xmlLoaded(event:Event):void
        xmlText = new XML(xmlLoader.data);
        info_txt.htmlText = xmlText.someTag ;
    **** I cannot use the above as is because, when I change the publish settings from AS3 to AS2, I get following errors -
    The class or interface 'URLRequest' could not be loaded.
    The class or interface 'URLLoader' could not be loaded.
    The class or interface 'Event' could not be loaded.
    Same works well in AS3. What should I do to make this work in AS2 or can anyone direct me in writing an equivalent in AS2.
    Please assist.
    Thanks in advance.
    MG

    parsing is done using the xmlnode methods and properties.  how you parse an xml file (in as2) depends on its structure.  but generally, you use firstChild, nextSibling, childNodes and nodeValue in the appropriate sequence to extact data.  the flash help files have sample code.  for tutorials, check google.
    if you're trying to load a cross-domain xml file, you'll have a cross-domain security issue to deal with.

  • AS3 and XML, HELP!

    Hi
    I have no idea where to post this, so pls forgive me if im in the wrong place, but I have an Assessment due tomorrow, I'm only 4 weeks knew to AS3 and Flash, and confused as, so pls forgive me if i also look silly asking this question.
    The issue is loading data from an XML file and having it present in a Flash website. Its a book review thing (i've altered the XML and AS3 for posting here so please bare that in mind), so the XML looks a little like this
    <books>
        <book>
            <bookName>The Monsters</bookName>
            <genres>
                <genre>Thriller</genre>
                <genre>Crime</genre>
                <genre>Comedy</genre>
            </genres>
            <description>about the mummies.</description>
            <image>mummies.jpg</image>
            <reviews>
                <review>
                    <date>16/07/2011</date>
                    <name>unnamed</name>
                    <info>
                        <rating>5</rating>
                        <why>blah blah</why>
                        <theGood>it was good...</theGood>
                        <the Bad>it was bad…</theBad>
                    </info>
                </review>
            </reviews>
        </book>
    <books>
    but each Book has multiple reviews, i've just shown you one. Anyway, i need to present this information in 3 dynamic text fields when a book is selected in my ComboBox… after a lot of trouble i got the basics of it. So in the Genre box the genres will display, and in the Description box the description will display, and in the Review box i can get all the information, but only with all the tags. I need it to display without any tags, it would be wonderful if i could figure out how i could put date, name etc in front of that information as well, but I cant even begin to figure that one out.  For the life of me i cannot figure it out. below is the code I have so far:
    //Load XML
    var booksXML:XML = new XML();
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("gigGuide.xml");
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,loaderOnComplete);
    loader.load(request);
    function loaderOnComplete(event:Event):void
       booksXML = new XML(event.target.data);
       var books:Array = new Array({label:"Select a Book"});
       for each (var book:XML in booksXML.band)
          books.push({label:book.bookName.toString(), data:book.description.toXMLString(),
                     infoLocal:book.genres.genre.toString(), infoDate:book.reviews.review.toString(),
                     infoImage:book.image});
       bandCB.dataProvider = new DataProvider(bands);
    //ComboBox changeable
    bookCB.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, changeHandler2);
    function changeHandler2(event:Event):void
       genre_txt.text = ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.infoLocal;
       description_txt.text = ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.data;
       reviews_txt.text = ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.infoDate;
       empty_mc.tex = ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.infoImage; //doesn't work
    any help would be greatly appreciated, and the image doesn't work, i've already faced facts that im not going to get that one to work
    Thank you in advance

    From what I can see you have a few problems. In your loaderOnComplete you set the data provider with 'bands' but create a variable called 'books'.
    Also, you want to be using the XMLList object to parse your data out. It's much simpler.
    Have a look at the following:
    var booksXML:XML;
    function loaderOnComplete(e:Event):void
              booksXML = new XML(e.target.data);
              var books:XMLList = booksXML.book;
              trace(books[0].bookName);
              var bookReviews:XMLList = books[0].reviews.review;
              trace(bookReviews[0].name);
    trace(bookReviews[0].date);
    First we get all the book xml objects in an XML List - the trace traces book number 0's name - The Monsters.
    Next, you can get all the reviews for a book in another XML List. Here we use the first book - book[0] and trace out the review's name and date.
    You can iterate through an XMLList as it has a length() method - (not a length property)
    Also, loading an image for a book would be easy - you just grab the image property of the current book and then use a Loader to load it.
    trace(books[0].image);

  • AS3 vs AS2?

    I learned to program in Flash using Actionscript 2.  I've heard that AS3 doesn't allow you to put code on a movieclip, which is something I have used often.
    What are the benefits of using AS3 instead of 2 and how hard is it to transition over to 3?  Is there a list of things that need to be done differently in 3 vs 2?
    Thanks.

    Your wonderings are good ones, but the answers can lead to opening a can of worms depending who drops in... those who pursued AS3 and love it, those who trembled in trying and backed away, and all flavors in between.
    You might go thru the following rather lengthy discussion.  It may answer some of what you are wondering about: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1051265
    As far as a list of differences, one resource is available by searching "ActionScript 2.0 Migration" in the Actionscript 3 section of the Flash help docs (appears in CS3 at least).  This lists all the AS2 things that go away with AS3 and in some cases identifies what replaces them.

  • Use ANE to tie AS3 UI to Objective-C++ engine?

    I'm a long time Flash user, (since Future Splash Animator) and though I've got some familiarity with other languages, my main development strength is with using Flash Pro and Flash Builder together to create AS3 websites or AIR apps (iOS or desktop).
    Earlier this year, I learned enough C++ to start creating plugins for the music software/DAW Reason. I'd now like to create an iPad version of one of these plugins so that it can be used on an iPad as a MIDI source for other DAWs/MIDI devices.
    From what I've read, I can use my C++ code with Objective-C (the result is referred to as Objective-C++ apparently), so I don't need to rewrite the entire software in Objective C.  However, the Rack Extension (what Reason calls its proprietary plugins) SDK took care of the interfacing between the GUI and the C++ code, so I cannot "re-use" the UI portions and will need to rewrite the UI for the iPad.
    I don't know how to code in Objective-C, and for the time being, would prefer not to have to learn (or at least in-depth). Rather, if possible, I would love to use AS3 to create the UI.
    NativeExtensions seem like they might be the solution. I've not yet used any ANEs though, so I don't have first-hand knowledge of their capabilities and their limitations.
    The way I envision this working is the following:
    Write my front-end/GUI in AS3 and interface with an ANE to send UI changes to the ANE, and receive events from the ANE to update the UI. The ANE will be written in Objective-C just enough to handle the events to/from the UI, and interface with the CoreMIDI iOS api, and then will rely on the C++ code I already have for the actual functional engine.
    Does that sound like it will work?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    CountShockula - Good stuff!! Thank you. Your interface outline and sample code are going to help lots of developers. For the future, you can format your code here by putting it between two {code| tags like this:

    Chris - Please take this advice in the spirit it's intended (to help you out!). At this end it seems like you're spinning your wheels now by trying to develop an understanding of the Cocoa interface without any knowledge of Cocoa. I'm sorry I said "passing familiarity" previously. I did you a disservice as it was tongue in cheek. I understand what you're after. You want to system engineer this design before getting into the details. I took that class too, and it's wonderful when the black boxes are plug compatible like the ones on the white board, but this job isn't gonna work that way.
    I would advise you to bite the bullet and learn some Cocoa before trying to draw a box around the interface. You can do that after your engine is built and running on other platforms, or you can do it now. Now would be better in my opinion. But you need to do that. Even if someone wants to give you the complete source for their Cocoa interface, you won't be able to touch one line until you've built some Cocoa projects yourself. You'll find out that hooking C++ up to Obj-C is the least of your design issues. Making a Cocoa interface look the same as a MFC interface is--as I said--not rocket science, but it requires some proficiency with both.
    If you're a manager just trying to scope out the job, I'd give you the same advice. Get a Cocoa programmer on the case before you tell anyone the OS/X port has already coded itself.
    Sure hope that helps!

  • Benefits of AS3 over AS2?

    I would like to accomplish some very basic functionality in
    Flash, such
    as, creating buttons that link to other frames, scenes,
    websites,
    documents, turn on sounds, etc.
    I would ideally like to do this using the built in Behaviors,
    however,
    these will only work with AS2.
    1.) Is there any benefit to using AS2 over AS3?
    2.) Is there a date that Adobe has announced where they will
    no longer
    support AS2?
    Thanks.

    nambo1,
    First of all, the real hero is the Flash Player. The Flash
    Player, the features it has, and the environments it runs in and
    how it runs in those environments (particularly the web browser,
    but as kglad pointed, it's very flexible and is used other places
    as well) is what makes it so popular. ActionScript is simply how
    you programatically use the Flash Player. ActionScript is an
    ECMAScript language of which there are others, but it's the Flash
    Player (and what you can do with it) that attracts people.
    The Flash Player has been popular for awhile now. AS3,
    however, is the latest and completely redone language for the Flash
    Player. Because it's new and because there are significant
    differences between AS3 and its predecessor (AS1 and AS2), there is
    some adoption time required. Many people are still using AS2. You
    can google to find out a lot more detail about the
    advantages/disadvantages to AS3 vs AS2, if that's what you're
    really looking for.

  • Likert Scale Quiz AS3 or AS2

    Hi
    I'm a realtively new user of Flash CS3 Pro and am trying to
    figure out how to create a quiz that uses Likert scale questions
    and answers (quiz-taker can choose from 5 answer choices for each
    question/statement, based on their agreement or disagreent with a
    statement, each choice having a different score from 1 to 5 points:
    strongly disagree=1, disagree=2, neither agree nor disgaree=3,
    agree=4 and strongly agree=5).
    The quiz would have 8 questions/statements, each with their 5
    choices and the total score would be the addition of all 8 choices
    in terms of their point values (1-5).
    As a newbie, this is beyond my AS skills, especially using
    the newer AS3, though AS2 is also a significant challenge.
    I would be grateful for any help, especially a sample script
    that I can adapt to the task.
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

    OK so having had a play around it seems that a simple option is:
    Use transparent buttons with a 3px stroke
    Inside and under each transparent button put a green circle
    Group the circles
    Whenever a button is pressed hide the circle group then make the single green circle corresponding to that button visible
    Clear and assign a variable with a value associated to that button
    This seems quite simple. Provided I can capture the variable values using the captivate to google spreedsheet widget it will work for me.

  • Any way to hear audio simultaneously from both Video and StageVideo objects?

    In our mobile application that is built using Air, we run simultaneous video feeds.  Video 1 uses the Video object (RTMP FLV Streaming), while video 2 uses the StageVideo object (MP4 Progressive). Since these two objects share the same audio stream and audio mixing is not possible, we can only play the audio from one of these sources – we elect to use the audio from Video 1.  In the perfect world, Air would include mixing capabilities and users would be able to watch both videos and hear both video streams at the same time.
    Is this functionally planned for the future, or is there any sort of a workaround to make this possible?
    Also, we would like to use two simultaneous StageVideo objects to playback a live H.264 Video stream (.M3U8) as well as a simultaneous MP4, but according to documentation only one StageVideo object may be used at a time which prevents us from doing so. Is there any work around or future plan to make Simultaneous H.264 video playback possible? This is possible to do natively on iOS and Android but we would like to continue to use AIR.

    ... and naturally, no sooner do I post this rant then I discover the answer.
    The very first thing I tried, "Export to disk" actually did the right thing. However, my nice, shiny iMac, barely out of the box, has .m4a files configured to open with iTunes, not Quicktime. So when I double-clicked the exported slideshow file, I only heard audio, even though the photos were included. Ctrl-clicking and choosing "Open With... Quicktime" did the right thing.
    Whew! That was frustrating. Thank goodness I figured it out, because it was driving me NUTS.

  • Issues in persisting dynamic entity and view objects using MDS

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to create dynamic entity and view objects per user session and to persist these objects throughout the session, I'm trying to use MDS configurations(either file or Database) in adf-config.xml.
    I'm facing following two errors while trying to run the app module:
    1. MDS error (MetadataNotFoundException): MDS-00013: no metadata found for metadata object "/model/DynamicEntityGenModuleOperations.xml"
    2. oracle.mds.exception.ReadOnlyStoreException: MDS-01273: The operation on the resource /sessiondef/dynamic/DynamicDeptEntityDef.xml failed because source metadata store mapped to the namespace / DEFAULT is read only.
    I've gone through the following links which talks about the cause of the issue, but still can't figure out the issue in the code or the config file. Please help if, someone has faced a similar issue.

    Hi Frank,
    I m trying to save entity and view object xml by calling writeXMLContents() and saveXMLContents() so that these objects can be retrieved using the xmls later on.
    These methods internally use MDS configuration in adf-config.xml, which is creating the issue.
    Please share your thoughts on resolving this or if, there is any other way of creating dynamic entity/view objects for db tables created at runtime.

  • BI-IP and Business Objects?

    Please refer to the thread:
    BI-IP and Business Objects?

    Ian,
    reading through the messages, there seem to be a few questions that are raised.  After attending SAP Financials 2008, here is what I got from it:
    1. IP vs BPC:  IP is still in production and will be developed (no commitment on time though.  I was told somewhere between 18-24 months before it goes to maintenance mode).  There is some functionality difference from BPC and right now these are two separate products.  There is a talk of a possible integration in the "distant" future
    2. BPC is in process of being developed for BI, but currently it is only running on top of Microsoft SQL server. The BI version is slated to be released June 28th, but majority of the experts are fairly pessimistic about that date.
    Now, the main question is what will happen to IP when BEx and BO tools converge into one - based on my understanding, we are going to see ADDITIONAL functionality.  Since all the WAD and Excel activities are based on BEx API's, it is highly unlikely that they are going to be dismissed in the new product.  The process in which we assign functions/commands to the planning model might change, but I think only for the best

  • Mixing ECC and NECC (Non-ECC) RAM Modules

    Hi,
    I have a G5 Dual Core 2.0 with a pair of 512Mb Non-ECC (NECC) RAM installed and I want to upgrade to 3Gb. I'm thinking of getting 2Gb ECC modules and discarding the 1Mb NECC installed. But I came across a phrase in the Apple Manual of my G5 that states "DO NOT MIX ECC and NON-ECC Memory Modules WITHIN A PAIR." Does that mean I can mix ECC and NECC within Memory Banks and NOT within a PAIR? Because in that case I won't have to discard my NECC 1Gb and have a mixed 3Gb Memory!? I'm afraid to actually try it so I would appreciate your insights. Thanks much.
    G5 Dual Core 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Yes. You can mix ECC and nonECC as long as you don't pair the ECC with the nonECC. The computer will just treat all RAM as nonECC.
    You can keep the original memory as long as the two 512MB DIMMs are always paired with each other.

  • Difference b/w DATA TYPE and DATA OBJECT & differences b/w TYPE and LIKE

    hai
    can any one say the differences between Data type and Data Object.
    And also differences between TYPE and LIKE
    thanks
    Gani

    hi,
    _Data Types and Data Objects_
          Programs work with local program data – that is, with byte sequences in the working memory. Byte sequences that belong together are called fields and are characterized by a length, an identity (name), and – as a further attribute – by a data type. All programming languages have a concept that describes how the contents of a field are interpreted according to the data type.
          In the ABAP type concept, fields are called data objects. Each data object is thus an instance of an abstract data type. There are separate name spaces for data objects and data types. This means that a name can be the name of a data object as well as the name of a data type simultaneously.
    Data Types
       As well as occurring as attributes of a data object, data types can also be defined independently. You can then use them later on in conjunction with a data object. The definition of a user-defined data type is based on a set of predefined elementary data types. You can define data types either locally in the declaration part of a program using the TYPESstatement) or globally in the ABAP Dictionary. You can use your own data types to declare data objects or to check the types of parameters in generic operations.
         All programming languages distinguish between various types of data with various uses, such as ….. type data for storing or displaying values and numerical data for calculations. The attributes in question are described using data types. You can define, for example, how data is stored in the repository, and how the ABAP statements work with the data.
    Data types can be divided into elementary, reference, and complex types.
    a. Elementary Types
    These are data types of fixed or variable length that are not made up of other types.
    The difference between variable length data types and fixed length data types is that the length and the memory space required by data objects of variable length data types can change dynamically during runtime, and that these data types cannot be defined irreversibly while the data object is being declared.
    Predefined and User-Defined Elementary Data Types
    You can also define your own elementary data types in ABAP using the TYPES statement. You base these on the predefined data types. This determines all of the technical attributes of the new data type. For example, you could define a data type P_2 with two decimal places, based on the predefined data type P. You could then use this new type in your data declarations.
    b.  Reference Types
    Reference types are deep data types that describe reference variables, that is, data objects that contain references. A reference variable can be defined as a component of a complex data object such as a structure or internal table as well as a single field.
    c. Complex Data Types
    Complex data types are made up of other data types. A distinction is made here between structured types and table types.
    Data Objects
          Data objects are the physical units with which ABAP statements work at runtime. The contents of a data object occupy memory space in the program. ABAP statements access these contents by addressing the name of the data object and interpret them according to the data type.. For example, statements can write the contents of data objects in lists or in the database, they can pass them to and receive them from routines, they can change them by assigning new values, and they can compare them in logical expressions.
           Each ABAP data object has a set of technical attributes, which are fully defined at all times when an ABAP program is running (field length, number of decimal places, and data type). You declare data objects either statically in the declaration part of an ABAP program (the most important statement for this is DATA), or dynamically at runtime (for example, when you call procedures). As well as fields in the memory area of the program, the program also treats literals like data objects.
            A data object is a part of the repository whose content can be addressed and interpreted by the program. All data objects must be declared in the ABAP program and are not persistent, meaning that they only exist while the program is being executed. Before you can process persistent data (such as data from a database table or from a sequential file), you must read it into data objects first. Conversely, if you want to retain the contents of a data object beyond the end of the program, you must save it in a persistent form.
    Declaring Data Objects
          Apart from the interface parameters of procedures, you declare all of the data objects in an ABAP program or procedure in its declaration part. These declarative statements establish the data type of the object, along with any missing technical attributes. This takes place before the program is actually executed. The technical attributes can then be queried while the program is running.
         The interface parameters of procedures are generated as local data objects, but only when the procedure is actually called. You can define the technical attributes of the interface parameters in the procedure itself. If you do not, they adopt the attributes of the parameters from which they receive their values.
    ABAP contains the following kinds of data objects:
    a.  Literals
    Literals are not created by declarative statements. Instead, they exist in the program source code. Like all data objects, they have fixed technical attributes (field length, number of decimal places, data type), but no name. They are therefore referred to as unnamed data objects.
    b.  Named Data Objects
    Data objects that have a name that you can use to address the ABAP program are known as named objects. These can be objects of various types, including text symbols, variables and constants.
    Text symbols are pointers to texts in the text pool of the ABAP program. When the program starts, the corresponding data objects are generated from the texts stored in the text pool. They can be addressed using the name of the text symbol.
    Variables are data objects whose contents can be changed using ABAP statements. You declare variables using the DATA, CLASS-DATA, STATICS, PARAMETERS, SELECT-OPTIONS, and RANGESstatements.
    Constants are data objects whose contents cannot be changed. You declare constants using the CONSTANTSstatement.
    c.  Anonymous Data  Objects
    Data objects that cannot be addressed using a name are known as anonymous data objects. They are created using the CREATE DATAstatement and can be addressed using reference variables.
    d.  System-Defined Data Objects
    System-defined data objects do not have to be declared explicitly - they are always available at runtime.
    e.  Interface Work Areas
    Interface work areas are special variables that serve as interfaces between programs, screens, and logical databases. You declare interface work areas using the TABLES and NODESstatements.
    What is the difference between Type and Like?
    Answer1:
    TYPE, you assign datatype directly to the data object while declaring.
    LIKE,you assign the datatype of another object to the declaring data object. The datatype is referenced indirectly.
    Answer2:
    Type is a keyword used to refer to a data type whereas Like is a keyword used to copy the existing properties of already existing data object.
    Answer3:
    type refers the existing data type
    like refers the existing data object
    reward if useful
