Modifying database link at runtime

Hi,
I have a mapping that collects audit information from and oracle database. The mapping is designed to run against any Oracle DB, so I'd like to do something like this:
1) set db link to point to a particular database
2) run the mapping (actually its a process of many mappings)
3) ...Repeat Ad Nauseum....
I plan on running this via an OEM job executing the OWB template script, so my first thought is to add a drop/create db link statement in there somewhere.
So, does anyone have an idea on how to accomplish this?
Thanks,
-Mark

Hi KMillar,
You can use javascript, to change Item objects (DOM objects) at runtime. You can run it without or with an event.
Example:
  <SCRIPT type='text/javascript'>
    $x('P1_ITEM').readOnly= 'true';
  </SCRIPT>When the browser runs this code, it's executed at runtime!
Greetings,
Rutger

  • OWB-OWF - Process Flow Deployment - Database Link

    Hello there,
    This post is basically related to my problem with Process Flow deployment.
    Could someone please shed some light on the following:
    When we create a Process Flow, during this process OWF creates a Database Link. For some reason, this link is not functional unless I remove the part after "." in that defines the "HOST" in the DB Link definition. How do I know it is not functional - I know because following query does not work:
    select * from [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    Here is the link definition:
    ORIGINAL:
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4.CENTENNIALCOLLEGE.CA)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
    MODIFIED (it works - above query runs OK):
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
    My second question is "using what userid/pwd should this link should have been created? Should it use "Runtime Repository Owner" or "OWB Repository Owner" or "Runtime Access User" or "OWF_MGR"?
    No matter what userid I use, it works when I run the query but I always get following error when I try to deploy the "Process Flows" in OWB:
    RPE-02085: Failed to test wb_rti_workflow_util.initialize through deployed Workflow Database Link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG2. Please check that "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" privilege is set and that the OWB Runtime is available.
    - ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG2
    ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    I have already granted the "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" to OWF_MGR. I am not sure, though, what is meant by the "and that the OWB Runtime is available" part of the error message above.
    I have also tried to fix this by running the "catrpc.sql" script but it did not help either.
    I am stuck on this step for past few days. I would highly appreciate help in fixing this problem. Here is the configuration I am using:
    o Source database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
    o Target database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
    o OWB 9i
    o OWF 2.6.2
    o OWB and OWF repositories are on the TARGET database
    I am able to successfully deploy and run my MAPPINGs.
    TIA,
    Amer

    Hello Oracle support,
    Should I open a TAR to get this problem resolved?

  • Execute procedure over database link

    Hi,
    I''m working on a package where you can select the required database, paste some query and with clicking on a button it will execute and create an explain plan for this query.
    Therefore i've create a procedure on each database that put's the explain plan in the PLAN_TABLE.
    To do this i need to execute this prodecure from the package. I use the following code:
    DBA_OWNER.DB_PCD_EXPLAIN_PLAN@DBA_LINK_533.WORLD(p_query);
    This is working fine as this database link allready exists to the required database. But i want to make the database link name variable. I've allready created the dynamic database link:
    l_link varchar2(20) := 'DBA_LINK';
    l_link_nr number(4) := dbms_random.value(0,1000);
    l_db varchar2(20) := l_link||'_'||l_link_nr;
    l_statement varchar2(4000);
    begin
    l_statement := 'create database link '||l_db||' connect to **** identified by ***** using '''||p_database||'.WORLD''';
    execute immediate l_statement ;
    So now i have the dynamic databaselink that is created each time i call the package.
    now i want to use this databaselink to call the procedure. this is where it goes wrong.
    The code i'm using:
    DBA_OWNER.DB_PCD_EXPLAIN_PLAN@l_db(p_query);
    is not acceoted when i build the package.
    The follwoing error message is showed.
    PACKAGE BODY DBA_OWNER.PCK_EXPLAIN_PLAN
    On line: 66
    PLS-00352: Unable to access another database 'L_DB'
    Does someone know how to use this variable to execute the procedure on the remote db?

    Any procedures you call have to be accessible at compile time, so the database link must also exist at compile time.
    You can get around this by putting your procedure call to DB_PCD_EXPLAIN_PLAN inside dynamic SQL, the same as you are doing to create the database link. Dynamic SQL is not checked until runtime.
    Think about the risk if this procedure is exploited. You are creating a way for someone to run arbitrary code in an any database in your environment, with presumably a highly-privileged ID, if it can run an explain plan against any schema in any target database.
    This is exposing some significant security issues. Read up on SQL injection, and have someone else review the code for security issues before deploying this.

  • Error in database link(ORA-02063 and ORA-02391)

    Hi
    database link was working fine till this morning. now when i try to query using the database link, i get the following error
    ORA-02391: exceeded simultaneous SESSIONS_PER_USER limit
    ORA-02063: preceding line from RMSLIVE
    It would beof great help if you can advise why this error is occuring.
    many thanks.

    The error stack is quite obvious.
    Either, the profile, with which the database user on remote database is running, must be modified to allow more connections or investigate the session leak in the application talking over database links.

  • Database link in forms 6i stopped working in database 10g release 2.

    Hi,
    We have Forms 6i with all patches added.
    We were able to recompile the form that contains database link in database 10g release 1 environment. Recently we migrated to database 10g release 2.
    We still can run the form (previously compiled in database 10g release 1), but when we tried to modify the form and recompile it in databbase 10g release 2,
    the forms developer closed down without giving any error message.
    When we removed any reference to the database link from the form, we were able to recompile the form with no problem. Database Linkd in SQL works.
    The question: what do we need to do in the database 10g release 2 to make the link in forms 6i work?
    Thank you. Lev.

    I recently upgraded my development environment from Forms 10.1.2.0.2 to Forms 10.1.2.3 and am experiencing the same problem -- not able to COMPILE a form that references a database link. The error is: "Error 352 at line 99, column 3 Unable to access another database 'LINKNAME'". This occurs on an UPDATE statement within PL/SQL code in a form trigger that used to compile and work fine.
    I tried the database link in SQL Plus and the link is working fine.
    Database environment is 10g 10.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2003.
    Is anyone able to do this?

  • Database Link to Mysql Database.

    Hi Guys.
    I need to Create a Database Link a Mysql database that is running over a Red Hat server to my Oracle 10g Database that is running over SUSE. I Have an Application server where the user runs forms and Report. The user access the Application Server that allow them to connect to Oracle Database because is a web Environtment. I would like to access MYSQL database to pull our some data to create a couple of Views for my Users.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Emmanuel
    PD: do I need to configure some ODBC or just modify my tnsname.ora file???

    add a space to each line in the SID section of your listener - only GTW_LISTENER and SID_LIST_GTW_LISTENER are valid commands to start at the first position in the file.
    In addition please remove that line from your gateway init file: HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME=C:\Program Files\MySQL\Connector ODBC 5.2\myodbc5w.dll
    HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME is used on Unix to specify the ODBC Driver Manager - as you're on Windows where Windoes ships a valid ODBC Driver Manager you don't need to specify that parameter.manager. In addition please remove the set ODBCINI parameter as the Windows ODBC Driver Manager uses the registry. So make sure you have created a 64bit ODBC system DSN using the 64bit MySQL ODBC driver (it has to be the 64bit ODBC driver as you're on a 64bit Windows using a 64bit DG4ODBC)

  • Ora-02020 too many database links in use

      Hi All,
                    While trying to  update Table through datalink in my program I am getting the above error.   Without modifying the  v$parameter  value ( 'open_links' ) in database how to use this feature to close Inactive sessions  in BPEL ?

    Yes, I set the init.ora parameters on all servers and then restarted them. I still get the error.
    Note that, for convenience, all my servers have public database links to all other servers in my private network.
    This procedure (described at the start) works for one run of copying 50 tables from one server to one other server:
    server1 runs the procedure and copies data from server2 to server3 (total of 3 servers in the process)But I get the error when I run the procedure to copy 40 tables from multiple servers to one other server:
    server1 runs the procedure and copies data from server2, server3, and server4 to server5The error occurs when only four (or five) servers are involved in the process.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    The SOURCE database version is 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    The TARGET database version is 11g Release 11.1.0.6.0 - 64bit Production
    Do I need to modify the NLS settings in the SOURCE database before executing a script to insert data into the TARGET database?
    Thanks, Jack

    The difference in settings is not a problem by itself, especially that only the NLS_CHARACTERSET matters. Of course, this difference may lead to certain issues if not taken into consideration.
    Please, describe symptoms of your problems.

    i have some few other questions.....................

    The following is an excerpt from http://www.oracleutilities.com/OSUtil/ping.html
    The tnsping utility is used to determine whether or not an Oracle service can be successfully reached. If a connection can be established from a client to a server (or server to server), tnsping will report the number of milliseconds it took to reach the remote service. If unsuccessful, a network error will be displayed. However, tnsping will only report if the listener process is up and provides no indication of the state of the database.
    $ tnsping <net service name> <count>
    The “net service name” must exist in the tnsnames.ora file. This file is used by clients and database servers to identify server destinations. It stores the service names and database addresses. The “count” parameter is optional and will show the number of times the command should try to connect to the specified service name.
    After this I suggest you to check your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora.
    Look for what is configure for:
    NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN
    NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE
    This must be compatible to what you are using in your tnsnames.ora.
    By the way, don't forget to check if there is a log file (sqlnet.log) in your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory.
    Regards.

  • Can we create pl/sql code over database link?

    Hi All,
    We are using Oracle 9i database.
    I want to know if we can create or modify pl/sql code (procedue, package, etc) over the database link? That means - can we create a procedure in remote database using the db link?
    Thanks,
    Dnyanesh

    yes, I can connect to the remote database directly and create/modify the packages.
    But I want the users not to create them using the db link.
    Is there any way to create the pl/sql package over database link?
    Thanks,

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

    We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
    For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
    Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
    For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
    Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
    Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
    However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
    Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

    As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
    Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
    I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
    What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

  • Database link from Oracle DBMS 1g to MS SQL Server

    Hi,
    I would need to know, if there is some out of the box functionality from the Oracle DBMS 11g where I can connect to MS SQL Server (2005/2008)? If there is good tutorial on how to do it, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks!
