Monitoring VPN

Hi, we have several Site-to-Site VPN's and IPSec Tunnel for our sites and Remote users terminating on our PIX 515's and ASA. Is there a way to proactively monitor these tunnels so that troubleshooting can be expedited using SNMP, traps, etc
Pls help.
Rgds,
Satya

Check
http://www.vpnttg.com/
Advantage   of VPNTTG over other SNMP based monitoring software’s is  following:   Other (commonly used) software’s are working with static OID  numbers,   i.e. whenever tunnel disconnects and reconnects, it gets  assigned a  new  OID number. This means that the historical data, gathered  on the   connection, is lost each time. However, VPNTTG works with VPN  peer’s  IP  address and it stores for each VPN tunnel historical  monitoring  data  into the SQL server and into the RRD (Round Robin  Database) file.

  • Monitoring VPN Clients

    Hi guys,
    I have a need to monitor VPN clients where I have TMG 2010 as my VPN server.
    I just want to know from where clients are initiated their vpns.I mean their vlaid IPs not which TMG gives them.
    Is there any third party software to do this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    When configuring the VPN connection on the TMG server, which kind of IP address assignment method you had selected?
    If you select the static address pool, then the remote VPN clients would obtain IP addresses from this range.
    If you have a DHCP server and select DHCP option, then
    TMG firewall will request 10 IP addresses from the DHCP scope each time to assign its VPN interface an IP address and to assign IP addresses to the VPN clients.
    More information:

  • Monitoring VPN activity

    Hello all,
    I have couple of IKE/IPSEC VPN client connexions enabled over an ASA 5515 and I would like to log VPN activity (user login name, connection time and duration, ...) like information I can see going to "Monitoring >> VPN >> VPN Statistics >> Sessions.
    Thanks for you help
    Regards,

    Thanks Jeff.
    I use Syslog Wacther.
    I have looked for "%ASA-4-722051" or "%ASA-4-113019" but I will get 113019 and it reffers to a disconnection ... :/
    I will check around for the global list of identifiers ... and let you know

  • What's the best way to monitor VPN connection setup in a mesh?

    We have 24 Cisco ASA connected in a mesh using IPsec VPN tunnels.  From our hub location we have Sitescope monitoring each firewall and VPN tunnel to that firewall by ping its inside interface.  That works great from the hub location and is more of a hub and spoke model but this is a meshed VPN and I need to monitor the other sites. I don't want to put Sitescope servers in all locations nor would I do that. What are people using these days to monitor thier VPN tunnels?  How do you know when a location can't talk to another location?  Looking to be proactive here and not wait for an office to notify me that a tunnel is down.
    Thanks for the help.

    Anyone??

  • SNMP Monitoring VPN 3000

    I'm monitoring a set of 3060 concentrators using SNMP but all I'm getting is bandwidth. I would like to know if I can get more information from it like CPU, Load and what ever else I can get from it? What application do you think I would be able to get more information from it.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Ruben,
    The MIBs for the concentrator is here:
    http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/netmgmt/cmtk/mibs.shtml . The link takes you to the page where you can get to all the Cisco MIBs. I found the OIDs that I wanted to monitor which were the following:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.6.0 - Peak VPN Users
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.9.0 - Active Sessions
    What you probably want to see as well is active Site-To-Site, you can use this OID:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.7.0 - Active L2L Sessions
    In order to find the OIDs, use the GetIF utility and download the MIB package they have. It is a large zip file and contains all these MIBs too. Use the MIB walker and go down the tree to .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.altigaRoot.altigaGeneric.altigaMib

    I am fairly new to cisco. I dont have a direct terminal connection. I ran the debug command above and through the GUI I saved these two log files. When I started logging I sent a ping packet to the other side. I can see that the Dallas location attempted to create a tunnel. When I did the same thing from Georgia it did not appear to even attempt to create a tunnel. The other thing I am seeing is that on the Georgia ASA under monitoring->VPN->Sessions there is no status to the right. On the Dallas side I see that there is 1 inactive tunnel. Any suggestions
    Log file from Dallas:

  • Cisco ASA 5520 Site-to-site VPN TUNNELS disconnection problem

    Hi,
    i recently purchased a Cisco ASA 5520 and running firmware v. 8.4(2) and ASDM v. 6.4(5)106.
    I have installed 50 Site-to-Site VPN tunnels, and they work fine.
    but randomly the VPN Tunnels keep disconnecting and few seconds after it connects it self automaticly....
    it happens when there is no TRAFIC on, i suspect.
    in ASDM in Group Policies under DfltGrpPolicy (system default) i have "idle timeout" to "UNLMITED" but still they keep disconnecting and connecting again... i have also verified that all VPN TUNNELS are using this Group Policie. and all VPN tunnels have "Idle Timeout: 0"
    this is very annoying as in my case i have customers having a RDP (remote dekstop client) open 24/7 and suddenly it gets disconnected due to no traffic ?
    in ASDM under Monitoring -> VPN .. i can see all VPN tunnels recently disconnected in "Login Time Duration"... some 30minutes, 52minutes, 40minutes and some 12 minutes ago.. and so on... they dont DISCONNECT at SAME time.. all randomly..
    i dont WANT the VPN TUNNELS to disconnect, i want them to RUN until we manually disconnect them.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    What is the lifetime value configured for in your crypto policies?
    For example:
    crypto ikev1 policy 140
    authentication rsa-sig
    encryption des
    hash sha
    group 2
    lifetime 86400
    crypto ikev1 policy 150
    authentication pre-share
    encryption des
    hash sha
    group 2
    lifetime 86400

  • How to monitor Local IP Pools on ASA

    Is there a way to monitor the availability or usage of Local IP pools on an ASA?  Maybe an OID string that can be pulled by an NMS system.  I would like to be alerted prior to the pool being exhausted.

    As far as I know you can check this from your external authentication server so if its cisco acs acting a s radius server for your vpn clients then check under reports and activities >> logged-in user. It will show you the connected user along with the ip address they have got.
    Lists all users receiving services for a single AAA client or all AAA clients. Users accessing the network with Cisco Aironet equipment appear on the list for the access point that they are currently associated with, provided that the firmware image on the Cisco Aironet Access Point supports sending the RADIUS Service-Type attribute for rekey authentications.
    Note To use the logged-in user list feature, you must configure AAA client to perform authentication and accounting using the same protocol—either TACACS+ or RADIUS.
    The same can be checked from the ASA by running
    show vpn-session db
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa72/command/reference/s7_72.html#wp1135352
    From ASDM go to Monitoring VPN >> sessions.
    Hope this helps.

  • VPN Users Showing Mutiple Times

    Hello - I have an ASA 5520 and I have been noticing that in my ASDM under Monitoring > VPN > VPN Statistics > Sessions, I have users listed multiple times. One user is in there 5 times. I have cleared them, restarted the ASA, etc, but to no avail. Anyone else ever see this?
    Oh, and a show crypto isakmp sa shows the same number of connections as the ASDM.

    I hope this isn't a stupid question, but is it possible that the user could actually be signed in numerous times? Or have shared their login with others?
    You can restrict the number of simultaneous connections for the user, to say, 1 connection.

  • VPN consulting

    Hello everybody, I'm quite new with ASA configurations, and I am having some problems with a VPN configuration. I've configure a VPN wich
    unexpectedly goes down. the strange is that the other side of the tunnel still have connectivity. another strange things is that in the MONITORING--VPN--IPsec Site to Site connections I can see always the link up.
    Has anybody any idea what can I do to resolve this issue?
    Thanks and regards.

    Vishnu, Hi, sorry for my delay, to bring the tunnel back I just go to MONITORING--->VPN---> I filter by IPsec Site-to-Site and then I select the Connection Profile for my tunnel and then I press the Logout button (in the ASDM Interface) and after a couple of seconds the tunnels starts to works again.
    my config in the far end ASA is:

  • Cisco Security Manager Advice

    Hi,
    I'm looking into Cisco Security Manager. From what I understand you can monitor and manage Cisco security appliances. I'm interested in the monitoring of our Cisco ASAs - specifically, monitoring VPN sessions and their  trending over months at a time and I would like to monitor other Cisco devices on the network for link problems/performance and such - I don't want to use Cisco Security Manager as a management point. Would Cisco Security Manager not be the right tool for this?
    We have SolarWinds and I've heard that you can assign UnDPs(Device Pollers) to devices you want to monitor, including ASAs and these pollers can give you trending for VPN sessions with graphing. I just want to make the most of our budget dollars.
    Any advice?
    Thanks, Pat.

    CSM 4.3 and above can be used to monitor VPN sessions on Cisco ASAs. You can definitely use CSM as a monitoring only solution for ASAs (without using it for management). You can also explicitly disable policy change privileges for all admins so they do not modify stuff by mistake. Note however that CSM is primarily focused on end-to-end management scenarios (including policy change, troubleshooting, reporting, etc). So you may not find all the bells and whistles in CSM for monitoring scenarios that you may find with some of the pure monitoring only solutions.

  • Issue with Script

    Hi Team,
    I am using this script for monitoring VPN account expiration date. Please check any errors at date function.
    Every this is working fine but while getting alerts i am getting END Date as below: It should be DD/MM/YYY Format
    End date
    41665
    Functions*********************************************************************************
    Function ReadExcel(strFileName,strSheetName)
        Set objExcelConn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
        objExcelConn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strFileName & ";Extended Properties=Excel 5.0;Persist Security Info=False"
        Set objExcelRS = objExcelConn.Execute("SELECT * FROM [" & strSheetName & "$]")
        For iColumnNumber = 0 to objExcelRS.fields.Count-1
            If iColumnNumber = 0 Then
                sColumnNames = objExcelRS.fields(iColumnNumber).Name
            Else
                sColumnNames = sColumnNames & "~" & objExcelRS.fields(iColumnNumber).Name
            End If
        Next
        firstCol = true
        Do While Not objExcelRS.EOF
            If (objExcelRS.Fields.Item("End Date") = Date+2) or (objExcelRS.Fields.Item("End Date") = Date)  Then
                For Each fld In objExcelRS.Fields
                    If firstCol Then
                    dim abc
                    'abc= objExcelRS.Cells(sRowValue,8)
                        fldCat = fldCat & fld
                        firstCol = false
                        'set uid=objExcelRS.Fields.Item("User ID")
                    Else
                        fldCat = fldCat & ";" & fld
                    End If
                Next
                fldCat = fldCat & "#"
            End If
            objExcelRS.MoveNext
        Loop
        ReadExcel = Replace(fldCat,"#;","#")
    End Function

    There us no way to tell what is happening.  The script does not make much sense.
    Ask the person who wrote it to help you. The script has noting to do with VPNs and nothing to do with dates.  It appears to just read all of an excel spreadsheet into a single string.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Site to Site ASA to Sonic Wall

    Currently, my ASA can send packets to the SonicWall VPN.  But when SW attempts to respond in phase 2, they get an error "NO_PROPOSAL_CHOSEN".  Our settings appear to be identical.  Any ideas?

  • ASDM AAA privileges

    I am trying to set up AAA for managment on my ASA. I have the admin users up and working fine. Now I need to set up access so that my help desk users have the ability to monitor VPN sessions and log them out via the ASDM. I don't want them to be able to get the configuration tab at all and I don't want these users to have access to the CLI at all.
    I created the local user I wanted and set the privilege level to 3 (selected "YES" to the "create predefined admin, read-only, monitor-only" prompt). I then went logged in as this user and the configuration tab was gone like I wanted. I then clicked on "Monitor" and "VPN". I could see the ssessions but the "logout" button was not available. I expected this so I modified the privilege levels for the vpn-sessiondb commands to a privilege level of 3. I tried logging in again but the logout button was still not available.
    Can anyone tell me if this is possible?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Not sure what is the ASDM version you are using but you might running into BUG CSCsz83205
    Symptom:
    Users with privilege level below 15 unable to logoff VPN sessions from ASDM.
    Conditions:
    ASA is not configured for 'command authorization'.
    Workaround:
    Use Command Line Interface to logoff VPN sessions.
    I have ASDM 6.3 and I am able to see logout with priv level 3
    Thanks
    Waris Hussain.
