More on step 2 freezing

First time through iTunes match found about 13000 matched songs and needed to upload about 4000. It ran for about 30 hours and completed about 1000 uploads before it crashed/hung. After I restarted it (reboot) it quickly (relative term!) got to the point of having to upload the remaining 3000; so the good news is that the 13000+1000 songs are in the cloud. The bad news is that it now hangs repeatedly on the first of the songs it is trying to upload.
So I restarted iTunes and stopped iTunes match before it could hang. Deleted all the songs marked 'waiting' out of iTunes and told iTunes match to start again. The 3000 songs that had not been uploaded were shown as available for 'download from iCloud' but greyed out. So I then deleted them from iCloud too. iTunes match now completes and tells me there are about 14000 songs available. (I'd already deleted all the ineligible, error and duplicates).
Now here's the interesting bit... if I add one more song to iTunes, iTunes match hangs on step 2 saying matched 14000 of 14001 songs. I can delete that new song from iTunes and iCloud and the match process completes saying I've got 14000 songs. This is completely repeatable for any random song from the 3000 yet to be uploaded.
Also... I deleted two songs that had successfully been added to the cloud (one uploaded and one matched). Run iTunes match again and now it completes showing 13998 songs. Now adding the two deleted songs back iTunes match hangs in step 2 with 13988 of 14000 songs checked.
So what's going on here? Obviously not a poisonous song as trying to upload a song that had previously succeeded now fails. The local and iCloud databases seem to be ok as the process goes to completion without the extra song. Doesn't seem to be an iTunes match server overload as when you tell it to update iTunes match (with only the 14000 songs that are already uploaded) it goes through the whole step 1/2/3 process.
Other threads seem to indicate that the iTunes match servers are overloaded. Could be... but just hanging is not good user feedback. Is there any way to tell for sure? If I a wait a day/week/month is it going to be fixed?
(All the numbers rounded... but you get the idea!).
Any ideas where to look next?
iTunes 10.5.2.11 on Win XP SP3

I'm pretty certain that it is an overload issue, that has caused a more serious problem for some users.
At first I thought that it was a track that was causing the problem, and did some deleting similar to what you did with the same results. I then remembered that new countries had been added, came here and saw that others were having exactly the same problem.
The fact that so many people are suddenly having an identical problem at the same time means that it is extremely likely to be a problem at Apple's end (we certainly haven't all just got to a tricky track at the same time). That it is related to the new countries coming online is an assumption, but it has to be quite likely.
It needs reporting to Apple, so they can tell that it is a significant issue, but there really is little else we can do at the moment.
If it is a problem at Apples end then it is extremely likely that it will get fixed pretty quickly. The fact that it has frozen, rather than just running slowly, suggests that something has actually gone wrong, rather than just being network traffic. This will probably mean that it needs fixing, rather than just waiting for the traffic to subside, but I'd imagine that it is being dealt with now, especially if it is being reported.

  • After Importing Tasks and Memos | Let's Move them from Remember to Calendar? More Extra Steps

After grabbing all your Tasks and Memos from BB OS 7.1, all the entries go unfiled into the Remember App. This is nice, but not nice. Anyone writing code to export these to the Calendar App or within Remember to 'move' them to the Calendar App? Does this make any sense to be left to redo these tasks and memos that invariably and potentially become Calendar worthy in terms of absolute reminders in advance of the due date?
It would seem logical, that say, for example, that if your old memos become potential Tasks, both the tasks and memos in Remember are somewhat treated the same. So now to export them possibly into the Calendar app? What am I missing here?
What would be the work around here temporarily until code is written to take all of your imported tasks and memos from, say, OS 7.1, now inside the Remember App, and send them OPTIONALLY to the Calendar? Nothing I can see at the moment...
Sometimes Memos turn into Tasks, which then could lead to Due Dates/Appointments/Do-To's in the Calendar App IF so chosen. But there isn't a strong blood relationship between Remember and Calendar. If there is, someone advise.
Relationship: Remember<>Calendar (In other words, strengthening the gap between Remember and Calendar.
When you've a SLEW of old Tasks and Memos coming from the previous OS's...wow...
In my Old Bold 9930 I had over a thousand valid memos, and over 2,300 regular tasks, segmented. Now joyously and unfortunately in the Remember App, WHAT A "TASK" TO FILE THEM WITHOUT ANY EXPORT to the Calendar or for the new Calendar to receive them with open arms and bifurcate them accordingly. (Splitting the main into two parts yet having the bond between the apps as close as possible)...
Sad that the old Tasks in BB OS 7.1 now imported into the Remember App has to be copied and pasted into the Calendar App for the Reminder and Re-occurrences, etc. Am I missing something? What a daunting task for power copy/paste people on a full qwerty to a touch keyboard.
Fervently experimenting with QNX Developers on this one. Need a cognitive, logical thought structure here to make this alleged "smooth" transition from one baton to the next baton (OS 7.1 to BB 10 in this area). Dropping the baton won't win the race against the competition here...

Well, what I've done is just the opposite as far as Calendar to Remember as the Calendar has the "Share" function base. With an extra step or two and of a 'cleaning house' from the import  from the old OS7.1, I've brought all my tasks and memos into the calendar and brought them back into their respective folder(s) inside of Remember.
You see, because the Remember app is so vast or initially treated as vast, if one is fast enought to power copy/paste while cleaning house, take all your memos, tasks, etc into the Calendar and sync Remember with the Calendar manually via the due date/time function in Calendar, then you've a precusor reminder due date in Remember, which then leads to your day's events in Calendar.
For me I've not doubled up on the amount of tasks and memos, but provided myself as a power BB user the ability to work around and strengthen the relationship between the two apps. If the due date is accurate on the Remember app (if chosen), you do get reminded that particular day, and on that particular day you can then revew the day's notes/memos from within the Calendar app, clean the task/memo house as you move along, and sit back until the code is written just for the reversal of what protocol I've taken here. Either way, you avoid third party apps, your passion for BlackBerry remains, and your productivity is elevated with BlackBerry 10.
A lot of people don't realize how powerful QNX is as I am working with QNX developers now with feedback within the ebb & flow of the code. Give less than three years through BlackBerry Evangelism, Philanthropic aspirations and more, and BlackBerry will take back a strong segmented market space and enhance the quality of lives for those who are loyal and believe in BlackBerry as a lifestyle. All BlackBerry, all of the time.

  • 9.1 More strange intermitten freezes! Spooky stuff.

A strange thing happened recently on my G4 OS 9.1. Intermitten freezes. I can't leave the computer idle for more than 5 minutes or it freezes. As long as I'm working it, it's fine. But if I stop—no matter what software I'm using—it freezes. I've been through some of the other posts and have rebuilt the desktop, emptied servers from the servers folder, and removed alaises to other drives. I've also turned off my sleep and screen saver. This problem may have coincided with the replacement of my two 20" tube monitors with 19" Samsung LCDs. For a while it seemed I had to set the monitors to different Hzs to get things not to freeze. That seemed to work for a while. I reinstalled 9.1 and that seemed to work for a while too. I have a drive array attached but even when it's not on freezes still occur. I've run disk doctor and speed disk—no change. In "About this computer" it shows a big Mac OS 9.2 but says version 9.1. Any detectives out there want to take this case? Thanks.

Thanks Tom. I'll give it a try. It's a Fantom hard drive array that I use with Media 100 for video capture. It's in a chain with another drive so I guess I'll go through the connect/disconnect routine that you've suggested. As long as the computer is active it won't lock up. I just can't leave it for more than a few minutes without it freezing (the cursor works but everything else is stuck. Very odd.).

  • TS3988 More detail steps about iCloud.

when i trying to login into iCloud with my Apple Id it says "cannont sign in-the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad."
what should i do now..list the steps please

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Are you sure that you are trying to login to an existing account or trying to create a new one.
Unfortunately once all the 3 iCloud accounts have been created on your mobile device, you cannot create any more regardless of what you do. You will need to re-use one of the accounts that you have already created or create your new account on another device or computer.
Have you tried resetting your device.
Is your device new or did you purchase it used or refurbished.

  • Tutorial or more detailed steps on adding new views, flipside, etc?

I have a working app and would like to add a flipside view, and maybe another view with some docs.
I know there are examples of code already containing extra views, and there is the Xcode "Utility" skeleton one could start from.
But just staring at those examples, where everything is already in place, is not really helping me understand "how do I add extra views to an already existing app?" Sometimes just looking at the entirety doesn't real fill in the blanks on how they got there...
Does anybody know of of a step-by-step tutorial or more detailed docs that specify the exact steps needed to add a view, along with the necessary control elements to switch into that view and back again?
    Thanks...
    doug

I don't know of anything that fits what you are asking, but basically you need to insert a parent of your existing view. That parent will then be used to add the new view with the animation. So if you have a HomeViewController, you will need to insert a FlipViewController that loads and displays HomeViewController.view as a subview. Then create the new SettingsViewController and when you want to display it, remove HomeViewController.view from FlipViewController and add SettingsViewController as a subview of FlipViewController. Do that with the animation settings you see in the examples. Hope that helps.

  • More than 32 freezes in under 3 hours, seriously? (Mac OS X Lion)

    Alright,
So yesterday I installed the new OS X Lion and had no problems with it in the beginning. The problem started today with the **** freezes. Never had these problems in OS X Snow Leopard, but now in OS X Lion.
I have a 2009 Macbook model, little over 2 years old. The problem is that it freeze if I try a Mac App Store game, try to watch a movie, or just simply surfing the internet. I mean, what the **** is wrong? I expected a flawless OS X Lion.
What I've read so far, is some have freezing problems with some graphics card related, people with 2 graphics card. Now I don't have 2 graphics card on my Macbook, so that is not my problem. What I've also read is that Adobe Flash has issues in OS X Lion, but don't really know why that would cause the Macbook to freeze.
Is there any answer to this extremely annoying problem? Are there any temporary solutions?
Please. I need this fixed when the school starts. If I don't have a flawless working Macbook by then, I'm screwed.

    Really:
As it it now, the volume setting is mostly either too quiet or too loud. not enough "steps" to adjust the volume. It should be something like 0.3dB increments.

  • Older verzion of Nokia Maps freezing + some more p...

    Hi,
Im planing to buy Nokia N8, but until the Xmass I need still to use my N79, which is great, but all the times I have some problems with Maps. Its old verzion (No2, I think 2.01 or something like that). I had to still pay few Euros to activate them.
Now for some time I have been using them , all worked great.
In last days they started to freeze. But only the navigation, lokator of the position seemed ok, so I searched for the addres, navigation started and upss.....freeze.
Sometimes when I restarted phone, but I think only included batery taken off, it started to work. But imidiatelly when I stoped navigation and started new one, again freeze.
So I started to try to change settings, one of them>> usage of the phone memory, I put it from 70% to 90% and now I cant even to switch Maps on. It openes the Maps, but directly goes back to stand by display position (Maps switches off), so I even cant to set it back , if I try to open maps one more time, it freezes whole phone, so I have to restart it.
    What should I do??
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English.

    Hi karlitos
You don't happen to have a spare memory card around as it sounds as if mapping data corrupted? For older versions of Nokia Maps they are stored in E:/Private/20001f63/diskcache.
Might suggest temporary removal to safe place, run Nokia Maps again to re-define necessary folder structure and re-download regional maps.

  • Windows 7 Freezes at "Completing Installation"

So, I was installing windows 7 and everything was going great, fast, etc. Computer had just restarted, blah blah. Windows had said "Upgrading Registry and what not" and then when I got to the "Completing Installation" after about 5 minutes it just freezes, I gave it a good 20 minutes of just sitting there before coming to the conclusion it might be a hardware problem?
Then again, why would I get so far in the installation before it doing that? It was at about the 70% marker.
Btw, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 32bit, I'm running Vista 32bit atm, and Vista is freshly installed after a Hard Drive format about a week ago.
Soes any help would be great, if it matters any deal about my computer specs I'm on:
    - AMD 64X Dual Core 3.00ghz.
    - GeFORCE XFX 6600 512mb
    - Default High Def Sound Card
Running a HP PC, but would have really matter?
Anyway, if anyone has any fixes for this or solutions, suggestions, what ever have you, I'm interested.
And also, I should note that I've tryed installing 3-4 times now with the exact same outcome.
I've tryed just the "Update" option, then after that I tryed the "Custom" option in the installation while it was already booted up.
Would a clean installation be the possible fix? The reason I haven't tred I clean installation is cause I just reinstalled Vista and formatted my hard drive a week ago meaning I'd have to make a 100gig backup of my programs, but if doing a clean sweap would have a 100% success rate, I'm all in.
Oh, one more thing, I first tried writing a CD with a RW DVD but I've tryed with 2 different types as well all going at 2x write speed. I still get the same installation Freeze.

I am glad to say that issue solved! Thanks a lot to all of you from that forum, but key problem solver was a guy Alex from MS Technical support.
The problem has been solved after disabling video card in device manager. I was scared to do that before. I believed that this will lead to “no video” situation since I have only one vide card. In fact that action disabled
    only driver.
So the successful installation steps were following:
    1.
    Minimize comp configuration:
    Only 1 HDD;
    Only one chip of RAM (4 G in my case);
    Only PS2 keyboard;
    2.
Optimize HDD as recommended at :
    3.
Run complete installation up to the “Completing installation step” freeze.
    4.
Activate Computer Manager as described by SheilaP at
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproinstall/thread/7d765b66-17c6-46e8-94e2-dd39b5b504c1?prof=required;
    5.
Disable all devices with “!” mark and video card also (even if it doesn’t have “!”, as it was in my case). Continue
    the installation.
    Again special thanks to :

  • MICROSOFT FOR MAC FREEZING EVERY FEW MINUTES!

Does anyone know why whenever I'm working on Word or Excel on my Macs, that every few minutes the application freezes, indicating that I have to go & kill 5-10 minutes before I can continue with my work?

  • Audition 3.0 freezes on me when I try to add Direct fx

When I click on the effects tab and then click on ENABLE DIRECT FX a box pops up and tells me it will have to refresh effects list, which is fine. During the refreshing though, it alway freezes when it gets to a certain file (DX:ROXIO VCF audio mixer 3.0) and shuts down. How can I fix this?????

I'm not sure if applying the Audition patches / updates will do it for you. I haven't installed them myself since I havent had the need for it.
If Adobe Audition 3 freezes when refreshing DirectX plugins list, follow these instructions to temporarily disable the DX plugin. This should allow you to refresh the list without freezing Audition and then go back afterwards and re-enable the DX plugin to avoid damaging the full functionality of its parent application. (Note: This said because Roxio and Nero, for example, use DX plugins that are detected by audition and make it freeze, but if deleted permanently could impair either the application, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY!)
This method I figured out and used for my own purposes on my own system. It has worked flawlessly and repeatedly whenever I require. I warn you, it can be a huge a pain in the butt, so be ready.
    Disclaimer:
I am not in any way responsible or liable for any damage caused by the usage of these instructions. You agree to use them at your own risk!
    Instructions:
You will need to have downloaded and installed DXman from AnalogX site, get it here:
    http://www.analogx.com/files/dxmani.exe
    1. Start Adobe Audition
    2. Go to 'EDIT' mode
    3. Once in 'Edit' mode, drop down the Effects menu.
    4. Make sure the DirectX Effects are enabled (otherwise click on 'Enable DirectX Effects' to do so)
    5. Click on 'Refresh Effects List'
    6. Let the refresh start and standby until the progress bar freezes.
    7. Notice on the lower right corner of the 'Refreshing Effects list...' dialog box the name of the effect that is displayed and write it down. That should be the one that has caused the freeze. (i.e. ROXIO VCFWaveform  1.0 or something like that)
    8. Go ahead and close Adobe Audition. If it won't click closed because of the freeze, use the task manager and kill the process.
    9. Run DXMan
    10. Once the list is populated, search through and find the DX effect you just wrote down.
    11. Once found highlight it and click on 'Info'
    12. Notice on the 'Info' Screen the "Filename' and 'CLSID' fields and make note of them.
    13. Open the path to the 'Filename' you wrote down on a window and find the file indicated (.dll or .ax)
    14. Right click the file and select rename. It will highlight.
    15. DO NOT delete the name while highlighted. Hit the END button to go to the end of the filename beyond the extension and type .BAK
It should look something like this:
    filename.dll.BAK or filename.ax.BAK
(If you don't see the original filename's three or two-character extension (.dll or .ax), make sure you have that feature enabled within folder options in Windows)
    16. Now go to the start menu and click on 'Run'
    17. In the field type in 'regedit' (without the hyphens ofcourse) to open the Registry Editor
NOTE: YOU ARE ABOUT TO USE A REALLY SENSITIVE PART OF THE SYSTEM, DO NOT MESS WITH ANYTHING ELSE IN HERE EXCEPT WHAT HAS BEEN INDICATED! YOU COULD PERMAMNENTLY DAMAGE WINDOWS OTHERWISE.
    18. Click on 'Edit' and then 'Find...'
    19. Type in the long CLSID number you wrote down earlier (Exactly as it is) and click 'Find Next'
    20. It will search through for a bit and will find and highlight a matching entry
    21. Once found, right-click that entry and click 'Export'
    22. Save the entry to the desktop with the Effect's name so you won't forget what it's linked to (i.e. effectname.reg)
    23. Once saved, right-click the entry and delete it. At the confirmation dialog click yes
    24. Once deleted click 'F3' key to find the next ocurrance within the registry (if there should be one) and repeat steps 20-24 until there are no more matches found, with the only exception you'll save the following ones with a numerical difference to avoid overwritting the first one found.
    i.e.
    effectname.reg
    effectname2.reg
    effectname3.reg , etc
    25. Run Adobe Audition and try refreshing the list again (steps 1-5)
    26. If there was only one DX Effect creating the conflict, it should refresh and finish just fine this time. If it freeezes again repeat steps 7-24 and follow the cycle until the refreshing goes by fine.
    27. Once successful close down Audition to re-enable the DX plugins (again, as to not affect the parent application)
    28. Go back to the filename path back in step 15. Right-click the original file and remove the .BAK to return it to its original format (back to .dll or .ax) but remember if you should refresh the Effects list after re-enabling the DX effects it will more than likely freeze again and you'll have to start over. Audition should work just fine with all your VST and DirectX effects after fixing it, you shouldn't have to refresh the list unless you install a new effect in the future. If you know you might purchase and install new effects later on, then keep handy the name and info of the effect that was making the conflict for easier fix later on.
    29. Once that done, go to the folder you saved the .REG file(s) (step 21-22) and double-click them and hit yes for every confirmation.
    30. Voila!, you have disabled and re-enabled the conflicting DX Effects and saved the day for Adobe Audition!
    Happy music making!

If you don't have that drive and are having problems with your new MacBook Pro, please start a new topic or look for an existing one that matches your issue.
    _CTO Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG 500GB 7200 RPM Problems_:
    1. *The drive beeps intermittently*. Unusual sound and not typical of any other hard drive I've ever used in a MacBook Pro or PowerBook.
    2. *The drive clicks/clacks quite loudly*. This is much louder than typical drive behavior.
    3. Most importantly, *the drive freezes or hangs* in conjunction with the other sounds. It causes games to freeze for a second. It causes HD video to hang momentarily. It brings whatever task you're doing to a complete stop for a second or so, several times per hour.
    4. These issues all occur while the MacBook Pro is sitting on a desk, untouched and unmoving. It's not related to any specific user input or action.
    Troubleshooting
    1. SMS: The built in SMS may conflict with the G-Force technology in the Seagate drive. While it's odd that Apple chose to use the drives with G-Force, disabling SMS has not fixed the issue.
    2. *OS X*: It's been suggested this is a problem with OS X and its power management. However, users have reported the problems continue when booted into Boot Camp. This would seem to eliminate OS X as a factor.
    3. *Normal Behavior*: Several users have said this is normal behavior for 7200 RPM drives. Apple themselves have reportedly told this to users calling for a fix. I can only say I've used 7200 RPM drives in my MacBooks exclusively since they were available and I've never had this issue with any of them. This is not normal behavior, especially the freeze/hang associated with the beeps and clicks.
    4. *Change Energy Saver Settings*: Set Energy Saver so the drives won't sleep. This has not fixed the issue for me. I always set the drives not to sleep as a matter of practice (necessary for HD video & Aperture work) and the issue remains.
    5. *Problem with all MacBooks regardless of drive*: This is total b.s. We've got several MBPs here at my company and none of them have the issue.
    _One Solution_
In May, I purchased a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM from NewEgg.com. Note that this is a non G-Force model of the same CTO drive. I had been using it in an external FW enclosure. I decided to swap the drives. *With the NewEgg 500/7200 drive in my 2009 MBP (3.06GHz), all of the issues are gone. The drive doesn't beep, doesn't click, and never, ever hangs or freezes.* It's whisper quite and very, very fast. I literally can't hear it unless I put my ear on the case.
The CTO drive, now housed in a FW800 external enclosure, continues to have the same problems. It no longer beeps, but clicks and clacks loudly, and still hangs and freezes. This would seem to entirely isolate the drive as the problem and remove the MacBook Pro from the equation.
Some posters in the other thread claim that Apple engineering has reviewed the problem, witnessed the beeps, clicks, and freezes, and had labeled them "normal behavior." If true, this is unacceptable. It is impossible to do any professional work, or even play a game for that matter, with a drive that constantly hangs or freezes. We have to stay diligent in pursuing a fix. Be polite, be friendly, but be persistent.

My revision is 0006APM2 also. I would like to know this info as well especially since some posters are not having this problem.
That said - I think there is a business strategy behind all this. Apple is saying there is no problem so that they don't have to recall ALL drives in whatever spec, revision, etc., since that is an extremely expensive resolution. Instead, I think they will quietly fix it in an update and all of a sudden you will notice your drive isn't clicking and hesitating. Perhaps if there are drives out there that can't be corrected in this manner, they will issue a recall/replacement. Being in the software business, I tend to think it will play out this way. The few hotheads that actually return their machine will pale in comparison to the cost of a recall - especially if the affected batch of drives was large in scope.
I think if everyone sits tight it will get fixed. If not, the drive is only a $100-$150 component of this expensive computer and it can be user replaced. I do however strongly encourage anyone with this problem to report it to Apple regardless of the outcome.
