Most Song Locations Lost in my Library!!
Where: Not Available ?????
Since the upgrade to the latest version of iTunes (8.01) most of my track locations have been lost! It just displays "Were: Not Available". I have 50,000 songs so this is a major issue!
Anyone else had this issue? I guess it means I will need to rebuild my lib
For me - I think this is the last straw! I have had enough of iTunes. I am intending to do the following:
1. Break the copy protection on my iTunes purchased music
2. Convert all music to a global (non-apple) standard
3. Get a different music player - not iTunes
4. Purchase my digital music else where.
5. Sell my iPods and use generic music players instead
I have had all sorts of problems with iTunes! They have lost quite a sizeable customer. I was buying 60-70 CDs/month!

Multiple music drive sources messes up song locations in iTunes XML library
I have had my music on an external hard drive for a number of years now. Most of my music library is on that drive (75+GB), but some (including all purchased stuff) is on my local C: drive. I often launch iTunes without my external drive (USB) connected and it has always worked fine with just the music on my local drive. Recently, I connected the external drive to recycle some music on/off my iPod. When I did this, none of the songs on the external drive were available anymore (! shows up). All the music is there, but somehow the iTunes library XML file got screwed up. When I opened up the XML file, it contains all the songs, but their original locations (which were F: drive) now point to my local C: location. I am really upset that iTunes would do this without my intervention. Why can’t it leave file locations alone? Do I need to reload everything again (File->Add Folder)? Are there any shortcuts or ways to prevent this from happening again? This has happen to me a few times of the years. Thanks…
Dell Laptop Windows XPAs you've found, if you go ahead and use iTunes when
the external drive isn't connected, iTunes defaults
the library locations back to the C: drive....and
messes up your iTunes library.
Mmmm... actually, that shouldn't happen. I did this same thing for quite a while with no issues. It never moved all my files to a new "location" that way. Only thing that happens was that the library location setting got defaulted to C:, the file pointers themselves remained unchanged.
I don't know how he accomplished this, but you are right that there's no quick fix. -
some music files do not show up in google play music app library. I did clear cache/data and restarted phone. The music is stored on the SD card. Most of the music in the library is in the same folder on the sd card. I can play the song from file manager, but it still is not in the music library in play music.
Cyndi6858, help is here! We'd be happy to help figure this out. Just to be sure though, the Droid Maxx should not have an SD card. Is this the Droid Razr Maxx? How did you add the music to the device? Are you able to see the files and folders located on the SD card or device when plugged in?
Thanks,

When I plug my Ipod into my computer it shows all my songs on it as reloading onto the device,
and sometimes it can't locate the files or they are just gone. All my songs are in my Itunes library
on my computer, and I do have it in my settings not sync the Ipod with my computer so I can
manage the content myself. It has happened multiple times.
I have cleared my Ipod off as well as my computer, and put all the music back on without seeing
any improvement. And as of today when I tried again it shows some songs on there but with 3 copies
of the same song trying to upload onto my ipod. And have of my playlist where empty. I am getting
frustrated and don't know what to do. Help.See these previous posts on dotted circles

when my hard drive died I lost my itunes library and now I'm being told that I can't synch my ipod with new songs unless I delete all existing because I can only have one library at a time
Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

HT1349 most song in itunes library is not playing.reason?
most songs in itunes library are not playing. Reason?
I have a similar problem.
I just bought 2 albums (Pirates of the Caribean III and Linkin Park - Mintues to midnight) and every time I want to play one of the songs it asks me for my account password. After entering it, it says this computer was activated. But it still doesn't work!!
If I want to sync I get the same message:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod"
I've also bought a iPod-Game (Mahjong) and have the same problem...
I have a 80GB video iPod.

Locating lost original files, I lost purchased songs
Locating lost original files. I can no longer listen to several songs I purchased. I get a message that the "original file cannot be located." What to do?
Thank you,
HunterIf the upgrade to Vista somehow erased the files, you'll need to restore them from your backup or, if a feature of the country you're in, download the content again from the iTunes Store. See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Note that movies can be re-downloaded only in the US as of right now, and then not all movie studios have granted that license.

The HD was recently changed on my MacBook Pro and I lost my iTunes library (Time Capsule died also!) but all my songs are still on my iPhone4. How can I copy them back to my laptop? Tks
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991 -
My computer crashed and I lost my iTunes library, On my new computer I downloaded iTunes and some of my songs were there. Although I lost my movies that I had purchases on iTunes, which of course cost quite a lot. How can I go about getting these back?
