Motion Questions

Is there a way to have a transition on a picture where the picture fades in from a white background instead of a black background?
And for future reference is there any other place besides behaviors that can add transitions to pictures?

1. Put a white background on a layer beneath the image.
2. Keyframe opacity?

  • Major motion question for my FCP project

Hey Forum! I think this is the FIRST post I've made for motion, I see some names here, like Patrick S from the Final cut forum...and I've only "just" got into motion: Some background: I bought the "ripple" training series on motion...still learning.
I've run into a "snafu" that I am willing to bet is a simple fix...I just can't find it in Help or in the manual/tutorials: HEREGOES:
I created a neat little animation, two arrows in a ball (very cool working them out in Motion, and very simple too!) . I added a "spin" behavior to it...and had the spinning arrows repel text, then follow a motion path, with cool livetype flowing in behind it...LOOKS GREAT!!!
SO...how the **** do I "layer it" onto my video??? I tried to import the video itesef (.mov) from FCP, but it does not just layer (meaning the black is replaced by the video).... what did I do wrong? HOw do I fix it?
Thanks so much for your time!
    Mark

I know this question is answered (and pretty old now) but I stumbled across it whilst looking for something else... and just wanted to check that you didn't have the background set to solid in project properties under the edit menu?
My settings in the general tab of this are background colour: black, and background opacity: transparent. If this was set to solid instead of transparent then you would always have a black background even if you imported your project directly into FCP.
If it was this then please let me know as it'd be nice to think I've actually managed to help somebody. I'm sure though, that you've probably already checked this, but best to be on the safe side.

  • Extremely Urgent Motion Questions

I exported a movie out of FCP as an Animation file and imported it into Motion. The problem I am experiencing is that Motion is adjusting the length of the clip automatically. My timeline is over 1500 frames long and the clip is only 320 frames. For some reason though Motion is clipping it. When I play the file back in Quicktime it plays the whole movie. What is going on?

So it's not the codec that's causing the problem. However, I'm still confused. The most true to the original would BE the original. Exporting as a self-contained movie would offer an exact copy of the original footage. If you feel you have to export to a different codec, I would suggest the Uncompressed codec. It works better with video images than Animation.
As far as your problem, have you tried exporting an image sequence? If that doesn't work, I would try trashing your preferences.

  • How to make smooth motion questions

Maybe this isn't the best way to achieve optimal results, but here's what I'm trying to do:
Make a slideshow with many jpegs. Many pics are odd size, so I made a grid inside a 6000 x 720 comp. I've then taken that 6000 comp and placed it into a 1280 comp and animated the x position.
Q1: I've tried a combination of exports, but nothing looks smooth on a final render to h.264 (the deliverable format). I've noticed that 60fps/ProRes provides nice results, but when I export to 29.97 h.264 it's all jerky.
Q2: Render hit. It's takes a very long time to render. In general, is there a better way to do this from a render hit perspective?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Your description sounds like judder. It's an issue cinematographers have been dealing with in their pans since the beginning of cinema. For a recent example of a Hollywood blockbuster film that messed this up, see the opening shot of Cowboys & Aliens.

  • 10000 FPS Slow Motion Questions

I am shooting at 10000 fps using the Sony HVR-V1U. I am attempting to achieve a smooth slow motion shot. Final cut shows the footage as being very jerky and blurry. Does Final Cut support high fps and if so how do I import it properly so that I can either slow down the footage to play back smoothly or change the playback speed in Final Cut?
    Thanks

Uh...that camera cannot shoot 10000fps. The max it can shoot is 30fps. The SHUTTER can be switched to 1000 (but not 10,000 I don't think), but that is not the FRAME RATE, it is the SHUTTER speed. Two very different things.
Final cut shows the footage as being very jerky and blurry.
That is what a high shutter rate tends to do.
Does Final Cut support high fps
Not 10,000fps. Not that it matters, you didn't shoot 10,000fps.

  • FINAL CUT AND MOTION:  QUESTION

    background:
I have the G5 DUAL 2 GHz POWERPC G5 with memory of 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM, OS MAC 0S X (10.4.8).
I'm editing video using FCP 5.0.4 - my video projects are located in the external drive. Back in June, I edited a movie and exported onto DVD; no problem!
This month however, I opened the same project again, FCP can not read MOTION. I called Apple Support, the technician says it sounds like my project is CORRUPT. Instead of reimporting all my clips and editing the project from scratch, Apple Rep suggested that I turn those Motion clips into QUICKTIME, import them into my project and continue editing.
I tested a NEW PROJECT TODAY by opening a new FCP PROJECT, WITH A NEW SEQUENCE, and then opened a NEW MOTION project and did a test. When trying to import the MOTION clip into FCP, it says: FILE ERROR: 1 FILE(S) RECOGNIZED, O ACCESS DENIED, 1 UNKNOWN.
I THOUGHT what's great about FCP 5 is that it talks to MOTION, LIVE TYPE ETC...
My project worked fine merely 3 months ago... what happened since?
    Please help!!

My project worked fine merely 3 months ago... what happened since?
    Updates
For instance your OS had been updated in the last 3 months for sure, who knows what else. Repair permissions and see if it solves your problem.
Also you can open the files in Motion correct? Thery're not corrupt if they can still be opened in their original program. Try saving them as a different file name and importing those files into FCP, omitting special characters and spaces in the file name.
I think you need the latest pro-apps update as well, just to be sure I would do a Software Update (make sure and repair permissions after every update)
Also SCREAMING your title doesn't help much...

  • Help from my motion buddies... off M3 topic

Hi Guys I know this is not a Motion question but, I could sure use advice from those I trust. I have a job starting in a few days and will be purchasing external drives to accomodate. I am considering a unit caplable of a raid array and firewire 800. Heres the link:
    http://www.compusa.com/products/productinfo.asp?productcode=343784&pfp=XSELLYMW
Since I have zero experience with raids, would this unit help me to run a proper raid and help speed up my work flow while using an external drive? I currently use standard 250 gig Acomdata external drivesw/ 8 meg cache/7200 rpm.... they are ok but do tend to hang up and drop frames.
This job will be shot @ 720P / 30 DVCPRO
    Thanks guys
    Nava

i have many projects that have been made with older versions of permeiere like 5 and 6 and different capture cards.
    now i have peremiere6.5 and capturecard dv500plus.
how i can open the old projects and change some of its clips?
    thanks

  • Drop Shadow parameter causes flickering

I seem to remember seeing this problem occasionally some time ago but now its worse.
Drop shadow" parameter seems to yield a flickering result. I check drop shadow and set both blur and distance to say 16. Looks perfect on the screen. Then I render the project and watch it as a quicktime movie. Now the shadow flickers. Some frames it is perfect then for the next 3-4 frames there is no shadow at all. Then perfect again etc.
    Is GPU AFU?
The movie is in HD resolution. 1080i60
    Motion 2.0.1
    OS 10.4.8
    1.5GB RAM G5 2GHz
    GeForce 6600LE
    Anyone seen something similar?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

  • Call to arms from my apple friends.

    Hi Guys,
This isnt a motion question. But since this is a board I frequent I must ask a favor. I am launching an updated website and seem to be having some isolated compression woes. It seems to only affect safari on 2 of 7 machines I have available to me.
Please go to www.ronnava.com/index.php to view the site and contact me via email to let me know if the movies play OK. You have to navigate to 2 or 3 pages then back to index page.
The movies seem to resize themselves after page to page navigation.
    Thanks guys,
    Ron Nava

I poked around, going forward and back, and I'm not seeing any strangeness...
btw, if you put in the http:// - you'll get a clickable link rather than having folks have to type it in... thusly: http://www.ronnava.com/index.php

  • Make jpg or bmp 3D

I noticed on one of the tutorials for Motion that it is possible to convert a normal 2D picture into a 3D one by using some kind of layering technique. I can't figure this out. Please help!

    TitanTankNate wrote:
Really? Well, they don't seem to know a whole lot over there. Anyway, most of the people who know how to use FCP know how to use Motion.
Yeah, those Motion guys, total dorks. The elitists here in the FCP forum are just going to tell you post your Motion questions in the Motion forum BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THEY BELONG. Same reason we'd tell you to post your iPhone questions in the iDVD forum.

And it takes FOREVER to get a response.
We're not here to help you with real problems, we're definitely here to replace your manuals or to prevent you from using Google.

Also, I wanted to know, is there a way to make text solid (3D) somehow? I'm trying to do a camera movement over a body of text, and all I see when I'm directly above the line of text is, well, nothing! Please help!
No, you cannot extrude solids in Motion. Motion is not a 3D app, it's just a place where you can see 2D cards hanging in 3D space.

  • Replacing Apple Keynote 09

I do presentations for a living and have been using Apple's Keynote for years. Unfortunately, I feel I've reached the end of its abilities, and am interested in seeing what FCPx might add to the creative mix. Here's a few questions to see if this might be a workable solution:
    1. Is there a way to do a full screen text slide - similar to Keynote? One where a small paragraph can be viewed by pausing during playback?
    2. If there is, can someone point me to the name of that theme in the Title Browser?
    3. Would adding Motion 5 be a plus, or a necessity?
I'm glad to supply more information if it's needed.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your input.
My presentations are live, and I take your point about the presence of the presenter being more important than the presentation. My interest, however is to see if FCPx - with or without Motion 5 - can be timed in such a way that an appropriate use of the Space Bar could make FCPx work like Keynote.
For example, an opening 'slide' would appear - followed by the space bar  to pause the presentation. Pressing the space bar again - or the physical Apple Remote - and, after a nifty transition, the next 'slide' would appear. As so forth ...
If the 'slide's were equally timed so that I knew how long each transition would take, would the audience be even aware that this was not a 'slide' presentation, rather than a video?
As a few quick Motion questions:
    1. Can Motion 5 output independent of FCPx?
    2. If so, what kind of output does it utilize?
    3. Can any of its outputs be directly input into Keynote?
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • 3d effect

i dont know if this is a motion questions
i want to make a slideshow or video or something where i can use 3d glasses
is this possible..well im sure it is...question is...how difficult is it...
nothing crazy...just want to make a slideshow that makes use of 3d glasses
    can someone help?

I saw this post and was curious...
Couldn't you take a picture, then move the camera 3 inches to the right or left, andtake another picture. Then you could place them both into motion at a 50% opacity.
Could this possibly be used as a 3D subject for those polarized 3D glasses?
Could the same possibly work if you had two video cameras set up 3 inches apart and did the same thing?
    Just curious...
Hit google and search for 3d filmmaking techniques. It is a huge new world of exciting possibliities. James Cameron (The Titanic) is doing marvelous new stuff.
Too complicated to explain here but, no, your 50% idea will nto work.

  • When I place a jpg into timeline

when placing a jpg into the time line the jpg is huge, I then have to go in and adjust the   correct size. How do place a jpg without adjusting the size. Also, when using a motion anim. How do I place the start of the motion correctly into the time line. I quite don't understand those little arrow in viewer and or sequence window?
    Thank you iBrain,
    BC

Your jpeg image(s) are larger than the video frame - that's why you have to resize them.  If you are doing high def, then the video frame may be 1920x1080, standard def 720x480, etc.  (Check your sequence settings for the frame size of your video.)  If your jpeg image is larger than that, you will have to scale it down.  Think actual pixel dimensions, not dpi.  This is video, not printing.
It's best to resize your images before importing them into FCE.  Resize your images slightly larger than the video frame size ... but generally not larger than 2x the video frame size.    That way you will still have to scale down slightly in FCE but it's better to have to do that than to have to scale up a small image.
It would be best to post your motion question as a separate topic.

  • Buttons for DVDSP

I am not a motion Pro. I have Motion 2.0 and DVDSP 4.0. I have a Template I have done in Motion 2.0 and want use it in DVDSP 4.o. how do I make the text that I added in Motion be a button in DVDSP.
In other words I have about 4 lines of text that "zoom in" that was done in Motion. I want these to be active buttons on a menu in DVDSP.
Not sure if this is DVDSP question or Motion Question so I post both places. Sorry.

    Take a look here
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/motion.php
It is a fade in, but same concept. You would need to make the final button text an overlay.
(Also posted this in DVD SP froum, did not know wher eyou would look first )

  • A question about AE (and Motion)

First, I'm asking about AE as I know a lot of PRO's are in here. My question is, getting started with it, I opened a template on a Macbook Pro, 2.4 and I remember someone from Adobe sayintg this should not be the case but what happens is, when I hit play (I opened a whispy template), it renders about 1/10 a second per second and there is some setting that I don't have turned on as someone said this should run fluid.
    2nd.
With Motionwhat can I do to make some type of SPOOKY with music, Motion track where is features our company name and some of the projects we have done.
Would like to see other's examples (AE/Motion) and would love to have a template or walk through.
    Thank you so much.

In AE go to the "Window" Menu. Should see "Time Controls", or ⌘+3. Should now, if not already, see this panel:
What is the "Skip" box set to? More than Zero?
Otherwise, I'm not sure what it would be. Would be best to direct this to an AE forum, as mentioned above.
