Motion Time Lapse, Stabilization with a Rotation.

Hello!
I use "Stabilize Motion" in AAE CS4 9.0.3.8
for creating MOTION-timelapse video content from series of shots from my DSLR camera.
Everything is fine!
As I see the tool (marker for Rotation is on) provides the stabilization technique in such way where the frames are stabilized in translation by looping the "Track_Point_1" and
the "Track_Point_2" used for the definition of the rotation angle.
Is it possible to swap these roles in the same Chain of the stabilization?
The way I can see this the translation stapling is performed consequently via the first and some times via the second point.
Thankyou in advance.
Taras.

Hi there,
although you can do these in Quicktime, my preference for (jpeg) stills timelapse is to use motion as follows
1. setup a motion project in HD (1920x1080)
2. import your stills as an image sequence, do any reframes or pans zooms there
3. export your timelapse as a QT movie in the same codec as your sequence (prores or prores LT if youre coming from an HDSLR in the right workflow)
theres a few bits and bobs to do along the way but thats about it, you get all the advantages of motions keyframing for any moves, zoom etc and if you save the motion project (without collecting media) its really easy to go back and tweak later in post, plus you end up with a nice easy 1920x1080 prores QT that doesnt stress anything,
Have fun though, timelapses can be really effective images

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

  • Time lapse recording with On Location Cs4

Does On Location Cs4 Support Time Lapse HDV Recording?

HArm, I believe the poster was asking if Ol does time lapse capture of real time video. It does not. If the source video is already time lapse, then of course it can. but if this was the situation I doubt they would be asking the question.
This feature was in old versions of Premiere 6 and 6.5 so many folks were hoping it would reappear in Pr or Ol at some point. It hasnt yet. (You could tell premiere 6.5 to capture say every 200th frame)

  • Has anyone created a time-lapse video with Final Cut Pro X?

I've taken a series of 2,631 I'd like to create a time-lapse video from. The process has been excruciating so far. I'm getting tons of spinning beachballs. I'm running Lion, 10.7.1.
Before I do any more hair pulling, has someone else out there successfully used FCP X for creating time-lapse videos? Any tips you can offer?

I love using FCPX for time lapse movies, here is an example:
    http://vimeo.com/27460065
    My workflow is as follows:
    1. I import the photos to QT player 7 as an image sequence
    2. I save the resulting movie in QT7 in Prores HQ, keeping the original movie size (eg. 3500x1940)
    3. I import the movie to a 1920x1080 project in FCPX.
    4.  I can now easily create pans and zoom ins without losing quality.
    I hope this helps.

  • Time Lapse with iMovie 11

I was really hoping to be able to build a time lapse movie with iMovie 11.  But, it looks as if it isn't possible.  There are two big issues:
    1.  It would appear that there is a maximum number of 'clips' that iMovie 11 will accept.  So, when importing still images, iMovie freezes at the maximum.  I'm not sure what that miximum is, but it's somewhere between 500 and 1000.  Does anybody know?
    2.  It would appear that the shortest period that I can allocate to an individual image is 0.04.  So, each image lasts for four frames.  It means that the effective frame rate for the time lapse is 6.25 frames per second (assuming a 25fps PAL movie).
It's so annoying.  It was possible to develop time lapse movies with iMovie HD.  It took a bit of messing around, but it was possible!  I can't seem to find anyway to do it in iMovie 11.  Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks.  I'll look into getting Quicktime Pro ... although I was hoping to take advantage of iMovie so that I could interweave time lapse footage with standard footage.
I did manage to come up with a workaround, but it isn't particularly elegant.
I found that I could import around 500 still images without a problem.  Before importing, I adjusted the project properties so that Photo Duration was set to 1 and Initial Photo Placement was set to 'fit'.  I then dragged the images to the project and they imported.  Once they were all imported, I adjusted the clip properties so that the clip duration was 0.04 (the shortest duration I could get it to accept) and made sure that I checked the 'apply to all clips) box.
I now had a string of 500 images at durations of 0.04, and I exported this as an HD quicktime movie.
I then tried to do the same thing again, but found a weird anomaly and iMovie wouldn't import clips.  On a hunch, I deleted the project.  Exited iMovie.  Emptied the trash.  Restarted iMovie.  Opened a new project, and tried importing the next 500 stills.
    It worked!
So, it's a bit of a fuss, but after each import of 500 stills, I exported an HD movie then deleted the project, emptied the trash, and started a new project.
Eventually, I'd got through 1,799 images.
So, finally, I created an entirely new project, and imported the four movies that I'd created.  I imported at 'full' quality to try to avoid as much degredation as possible.  I was then able to bring the four movies into the new project, speed them up (x4) and I've got a half-way decent time lapse.
It isn't perfect, but it does provide a method of using iMovie 11 to generate time-lapse segments within broader movies.
I will try Quicktime Pro too.
Does anybody have any suggestions for best export settings from Quicktime so that the time lapse could then be imported into iMovie 11?

  • Time lapse issues in iMovie 10

I would like to embark on a time lapse movie with existing jpegs (shot through a surveillance camera). I am unable to locate the transition time feature in iMovie 10... I notice it was quite easy in version 9 according to youtube tutorials. Can anyone help?

I've been trying to do something like this, too. I found a blog entry that seems to show how, but I can't get it to work.
Briefly, I can import the images into the movie project (I used an iPhoto album, but I suspect that importing files from a directory is just as easy), select all of the images in the timeline, then use the Adjustments Bar's "Info" tab (click on "Adjust", then the circled "i" at the upper right) to set the duration for all of the images. Unfortunately, I can't set the duration to a value less than 0.5; I'd like to use something like 0.1.
I'm going to try exporting, re-importing, then speeding up the play rate (as mentioned in the linked blog), but that seems unnecessarily tedious.

  • HDR Time Lapse .mov flicker problems

Using Lightroom 2.3 trying to create an HDR Time Lapse .mov with quicktimepro. I have slight shutter adjustments (flickers) to correct in many images. I was unable to use manual exposure as time was an issue so auto exp. and manual focus was my only option. This was a scene over water of an amusement park and the waves are crashing, which I did not think of, so the ocean highlights created in camera slight speed adjustments...
Is there a way to match the sky exposure evenly in all the frames (240 of them) using an auto batch eye dropper action in Lightroom or PS3?
To add to my problem I have a single jpeg and need to convert to an HDR using Photomatix. I know raw would of been easier but was not thinking....
I have already tried to tweak each image seperately so I am half way there but still have flickers. Can anyone offer advice that won't take me all day.
    Thanks for your help....
    David

    Thanks Sean,
I was hoping lightroom or PS3 could batch correct the exposures to match each other....Jao gave me "match total exposures" from the settings menu and this helped but still have to correct some by eye. You are right about the shutter drift. I used a Nikon D200 and that has issues. Looking to buy the D700 soon.
My other problem was the HDR conversion of a single Raw frame.....I am going to try and "match total exposures" before doing the HDR and see if that works....

  • Does the time-lapse feature in imovie work well?

Hi, I just got a gig to produce a time-lapse video covering the changing light on a building from dawn until dusk. I work in Final Cut Express, but have heard that imovie has a time-lapse option; i.e. you can set up the Capture to only grab 1 frame out of every 30. Does this work well? Can I come out of my camera with firewire into a laptop into imovie and just capture onto the hard drive without running tape? (Otherwise, I don't know how I could record 12 hours continuously).
    Thanks for any input.

  • Time-lapse videos

Is it possible to create time-lapse videos with iMovie?
The images would be imported from iPhone 4 with time-lapse apps such as iMotion HD, Timelapse, Gorillacam or single images made with the normal photocamera.
    Thanks for support!!

It is possible, but iMovie is not designed for this. I would not use iMovie except on a very short project.
Better tools are iStopMotion or QuickTime Pro.

  • Time-lapse Still Images

After two hours of reading on the web, I was unable to find any help for my problem.  Perhaps someone out there has some knowledge to share.
I have several years worth of still images.  The images were taken in 15 minute intervals.  I need to display the images as a time-lapse movie with controls to step through each frame (still) or animate to time-lapse forward or in reverse.  I would like to dynamically select the images corresponding to any date from a calendar component.   A cover flow would be nice if it could somehow display the respective date with the image.
However the best method is for doing this, the result needs to function within a Flex application.  I am just a beginner Flex developer so I need at least to know if this is feasible.  All opinions are welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Time Lapse creates 0kb files

I've been using a VF0750 for several years, mostly with SKYPE. Camera works file and has good color and resolution. I've taken several normal videos with it successfully. In the last couple days I've tried to create time lapse videos with various settings from the drop down menu. Every try resulted with a .wmv file of 0 (zero) bytes. I'm using Windows 7 Pro and upgraded the Live Central 3 software and drivers to the most recent. Any suggestions would be welcome! Thanks in advance.

    Hi mrrwpvt,
For your info, the last driver file release is LCCT_0750_PCDRV_17_1_01_01A.exe and can be download here.
The creation of time-lapse videos could have created these temporary 0 bytes .wmv files, in which case, these can be easily removed as they do not contain any data. Unfortunately, there may not be a ready fix to this.

  • Time-lapse flicker unchanged after Color Stabilizer

I shot a sequence of still photos of a cluster of roses blooming in front of a blue screen for creating a time-lapse clip, my first time to try that.  I have an NTSC-sized comp that fills the frame nicely with just one of the roses.  As expected, there is flicker due to imprecision in the camera's aperture, and the rumor is that AE's Color Stabilizer effect should fix that.  I have Keylight to key out the blue, and also TimeWarp to speed it up because the rose took longer than I thought to open (although that's optional, as I can just make the clip at its original length and speed it up in PPro when I combine it with backgrounds), but I made sure to put the Color Stabilizer below those other effects in the timeline - that should mean it is applied first, right?  The Color Stabilizer in is "Brightness" mode, and because the rose's petals move, I put the "Black Point" on the blue screen.  But it still flickers - it doesn't look like there is any improvement over not using the effect at all.  Am I doing something wrong?  Naturally, if the Color Stabilizer was being applied after Keylight, it wouldn't work because the background would already be erased, but I think it should be applying it first.  If I have to put the Black Point on some part of the rose, I will have to chase it with a bunch of keyframes, and it may still not work right.  Recommendations?
I wish there was an effect that would simply look at the whole frame's brightness and smooth each frame to a running average of several frames in a row, but as far as I know, such an effect doesn't exist.
Additional info: AE CS4 on Windows XP. The photos were for 1 second each @ f-8 with a Canon Powershot S3-IS, if that matters.

If the lighting and background are constant, there's nothing for Color
Stabilizer to do, you should not have needed it at all.
That would be true if I was shooting with my video camera (which I have done for many a sunrise or other less-than-one-hour time-lapses.  But the problem is that most still cameras do not keep their aperture set while waiting between shots, and even in manual shooting mode with a specific f-stop, there will be slight variations.  The flicker isn't caused by my subject matter, but by my camera.
In my case, I'm actually pretty pleased that my camera did as well as it did, considering that it's not an SLR.  The flicker is not nearly as bad as some examples I have seen on the web.  For your benefit, I made two half-resolution Quicktime file of the same 4 seconds of the middle of the sequence - this one has no effects at all, and this one has not just one but two effects added that are rumored to be helpful in reducing flicker: Color Stabilizer in "brightness" mode with the "black point" on the background, and Auto Levels with a Temporal Smoothing setting of 1 second.  (Even at half-resolution and only four seconds, the files are still over 14MB each, because they contain the full frame rate of 29.97 fps, so be patient with the download.)  To my naked eye, I can't see much difference.
    I'd have
processed the individual stills in a batch in Photoshop first, leveling
    all variables.
How does one do that?  I do have Photoshop (CS2),  but I'm not much of a Photoshop expert and have no idea how to get it  to compare levels between even two files, much less do such comparison  in an batch fashion between thousands of files.
Thanks for the link.  I didn't see anything directly relevent at first glance (deflicker discussions center around using VirtualDub on a progressive video file, but my source is 3000 still photos, my destination is interlaced DV-encoded video, and I don't really want to process and resave it multiple times if I can avoid it).  But when I have more time, I'm sure I could learn lots about time-lapse in general by reading the forum threads.

  • Need help with masking a time-lapse animation

    Hi all,
I'm working on a time-lapse project where I have taken 240 shots of a highway heading into my city, and have erased the cars from the shot, creating the look of an "empty city". This will be one of many sequences like this.
I got the highway background plate perfect, no cars, and I threw that into my AE comp (CS6), along with the 240 images as a JPEG sequence. I've layered the background plate on top of the image sequence and used a mask to "hide" the cars from the highway.
The problem is, some of the cars are taller than the roadway (trucks, busses, etc), so they push into the upper part of the frame where the motion is supposed to happen. If I extend the mask upward, you can see a literal bisection between the still plate and the animated JPEGs. If I just move the mask path to hide cars as they go by, the moving mask becomes VERY obvious in the exported QuickTime.
I've attached a still of my setup and a short video for explanation. If anyone can help me salvage this shot, I'd be very grateful. I do NOT want to have to erase out the tops of the cars in every photo I took

    Dave LaRonde wrote:
A lot of planning went into those shots.
You'll note that in many of them, the things that move -- clouds in the sky, for example -- can easily be masked, and they were shot time-lapse over a short duration of time.  In other shots, the sun wasn't an issue: it was cloudy or it was night.  Others were assembled shooting in real-time with masking, and again, changing light angles would not have been an issue.
There are a lot of different techniques used in those things.  It's interesting to note that at this web site, the photographer/editor/VFX practitioner only mentions some of them: particularly the use of clamps instead of tripods.  He doesn't give away many of his tricks.
I presume you've doped out how the zooms, pans and tilts were done.
Easily masked is I think where I got tripped up. In the Golden Gate shot, for example, it's pretty much a straigh mask up the center of the shot. In mine, there are curves with lots of buildings right next to the highway. Poor choice of location, perhaps.
Yes, Ross definitely doesn't share a lot of how-to, mainly just erasing objects and layering in After Effects. How he deals with problems/challenges isn't covered, so that's my learning curve.
The zooms are easy, you can do that in post if you shoot high enough resolution. The pans were done on a pocket dolly using a remote device that automatically tracked the camera across the scene over time. Couple hundred bucks to rent one, but too advanced for me at this point. I'm more concerned with getting stable, usable shots.

  • Problem with importing images into time lapse

    Hi
I am having problems with importing still images into a time lapse sequence in photoshop and would appreciate any suggestions!
I want to create a time lapse using a sequence of still photographs.  All file names are sequentially name/numbered.
I am using the Motion workspace, and have followed all of the instructions available.
Create correct sized new document (film & video).
    Create video timeline.
    Set frame rate.
Choose 'create new video layer from file'.
Point to first image in the folder where the images are stored.
At this point, no matter what I have tried, I receive this error:
I have tried different sized new documents; tried jpegs and tiffs; tried different frame rates, tried different qualities and sizes of images; tried selecting the last image instead of the first (one recommendation).
If I use the 'Place' command from the file menu (and check the 'image sequence' box) instead of selecting 'Create new video layer' from the layers panel, it loads fine and I can still render the video.
It took me most of a day to discover this workaround, but every other reasonable 'how-to' that I can find says that I should be able to do it by opening files into a new video layer and it seems as though the new video layer option may give me more alternatives.
Anyone have any idea why I could be having these problems?
I have reset Photoshop, deleted the settings file, even reinstalled it.  I use 64-bit on windows 7 and even installed the 32-bit to try that, but all with the same result.
    Stuart

Unfortunately, yes--I've tried it that way over and over, and every other way I could think of.  The files are all in one folder, and I've converted the raw files to both tiffs and jpegs.  I even tried converting them to jpegs at the final pixel dimensions.  Each folder that I have used only contains one type of file, and they are all part of the same sequence and sequentially numbered.  I have even tried renumbering the files with numbers first, numbers last, numbers only, moving underscores.  I moved the files from my external hard-drive to the desktop ... I have a lot less hair than I had only a few days ago!
I've looked at a few other tutorials that outline the same sequence of steps, and tried them over and over, and then changing one step at a time to make sure that it was not a single step that caused the problem.
The thing that is really bugging me is that it works fine if I use the different approach of using the place command instead.
Anyway, thanks for all of your time.  It's going to be a lot simpler to just stick with 'place' command and I will likely do that, but I tend take things like this as a challenge.  I like to know WHY it won't work for me.  Sometimes it seems that there is just no logical explanation!

  • I have a EOS T1i and would like to experiment with time lapse photography. Any help?

I have an EOS T1i and would like to experiment with time lapse photography.  I just read an Apple tip for the iPad and it is easy to do with the iPad but timing is something else.  I would like to do it with my Canon and be able to change the timing between shots.  Can you provide advice?  I put time lapse into Google and it had an attachment for the T3i that I could get from Amazon.  I don't know if it fit my T1i and don't know where to put it.  Any advice would be helpful.  I tried to do a search on this forum but could not find the answer.
