  • How to Synchronize 2010 content database of my site (Web Application port 8080) to Sharepoint 2013 content database

    Hello,
I am migrating Sharepoint 2010 my site content database to SharePoint 2013. First I have to create My site web application  in SharePoint 2013. How can I synchronize 2010 content database with 2013.

    Hi ghsajith,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to upgrade your SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
There is an article for your reference:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alimaz/archive/2012/07/17/upgrading-from-sharepoint-2010-to-sharepoint-2013-step-by-step.aspx
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Existing SharePoint 2010 Content Database Attach – No Site Collections

First, let me start off by saying that I have read every single thread I could find on this subject, such as:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0c34ca6f-0db1-4d61-a48c-c4704dd86513/currentsitecount-is-zero-in-upgraded-site

That said, even though my situation is a bit different than those posts, I have tried all the things!
    Let me break it down:
Our prod server is a sad Frankenstein upgrade from Project/SharePoint 2003 to 2007 to 2010.
The problem is not on our prod server.
Our test server was a database attach installation.  It mostly works.
The problem is, we have this old content database which housed the project sites that were created on 2003, then upgraded to 2007, then upgraded to 2010 – but when it attaches to the test server, it's empty.  The "current number of site collections"
in CA shows 0 and the CurrentSiteCount in powershell = 0.
We have to keep these sites and their links for compliance reasons (7 year retention policy!) and we haven’t really cared that they aren’t working on the test server…except that we are going to be upgrading to 2013 this year, and that’s a database attach
no matter what.  So I have to solve this now.
    I’ve checked the following:
The data is there on the database.
The database name I’m typing is correct.
The version of the db is up to date.
The top level site is set to Exclusion.
    Permissions.
    Here’s what I’ve tried:
    Attaching using powershell
    Attaching using Central Admin
    Detaching and reattaching
    Running psconfig
    Resetting IIS
When the database is unattached, I have tried the “Recover data from an unattached content database” function – it recognizes the database (if I type it in wrong, it tells me I don’t have access) but then finds nothing in the site collections.
The prod server is perfectly happy with these sites, and we copied the database from prod after the 2010 upgrade, so I don’t know what the issue is.
I appreciate any thoughts any of you have.  I’m stumped!

    Holy lots of errors, batman!!
I think it's safe to say that the 2010 upgrade didn't hit all our sites, based on the errors and this post:

  • Request time out when creating content database

    Hello,
my problem is, that i cannot create a SharePoint content database via the central administration.
    My Setup is the following:
    SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Farm
    1x Applikation Server/WFE (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x Database Server MSSQL Server 2012 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
    1x TFS 2013 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
all of them are hosted in the same Hyper-V Environment. It is not the fasted Hyper-V Environment existing on planet earth.
The weirdest part of the problem is, i am able to create a content database via powershell.
I am running in some kind of time out issue related to the IIS and CA of that Applikation Server.
Here is the ULS Log from the failling content database creation via CA

The fact that i am able to create a content database through powershell sorts out permissions problems. I am certain of that because the w3wp.exe and the powershell.exe used for both creations were run under the same user.
The timeout always happens aroud 120 seconds after i started the creation. The creation via powershell takes about 3,5 minutes.
Here for the folks that ask me, why i haven't asked google or bing or some other search engine.
I tried the solutions suggested here
    http://www.sharepointpals.com/post/Error-while-Creating-Web-Application-through-Central-Administration , here
    http://anthonyspiteri.net/sharepoint-2010-web-ui-timeout-creating-web-application-quick-fix/ and here
    http://blogs.ibs.com/Duane.Odum/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=33
which i thought pointed me to the right solution.
But those post unfortunatly didnt worked out.
I also tried to alter the web.config files (i know that isn't recommended or supported, but it didn't change anything so those are back to normal as well)
    So here are my question:
Can you guys help me solve this issue?
Are there any other places where timeouts can be managed or defined?
P.S.: I am new to using this forum. so pls don't crucify me for doing a mistake.
P.S.S: My english is very poor also :D
    With best regards
    Simon

Be careful with settings like these because there may be a much deeper issue at hand. I have had an issue with a customer that manifests itself as a timeout on a site collection. It was very hard to track since it didn't happen frequently. We engaged Microsoft
Support to find out the root cause but all they could point at is a general network issue that pertains to authentication. After digging deeper, we found out that the network issue was caused by a saturated network connectivity to the domain controller that
impacts a site collection when the database is making an authentication call. Keep this solution as more of a quick fix but be sure to conduct a deeper investigation of the real root cause

  • SharePoint 2013, SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enable RBS for Additional Content Databases

We Enabled RBS in our SharePoint 2013 Environment recently. The time when we Configuring we had only one Content Database and we successfully configured. now we created more web applications and we need to enable RBS for newly created Content Databases.
we searched and tried lots of approaches, but we cudn't manage to achieve this. can anyone help us to enable RBS on additional Content Databases. (No offense but direct instructions would be great rather than providing links).
    Thank you!

Here is step by step instruction with screenshot
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/2011/03/enabling-rbs-on-multiple-content-databases/
    Try to run
    run this command on the SharePoint server: msiexec /qn /i rbs.msi REMOTEBLOBENABLE=1 FILESTREAMPROVIDERENABLE=1 DBNAME=”WSS_Second” FILESTREAMSTORENAME=FilestreamProvider_1 ADDLOCAL=EnableRBS,FilestreamRunScript DBINSTANCE=”DBServer”
Thank you so much for the reply Indrajeet. we followed the instruction to the letter but when we try the command, it failed. while doing some search, we came across an interesting Article.
    http://rudolphoravec.blogspot.com/2012/10/remote-blob-storage-rbs-and-sharepoint.html
    And surprisingly it is Working.

This could be due to a database health issue. If you run DBCC CHECKDB against this content database, does it come back with any consistency errors?
Another option is to dismount and remount the database from SharePoint, using Dismount-SPContentDatabase and Mount-SPContentDatabase. Some consistency checks are performed during the mount operation.

  • SharePoint PowerPivot feature failing after site collection was backed up and restored (moved to new content database)

    Hi there,
I am having some strange issue with my PowerPivot for SharePoint but can't figure out what is causing this. Here is what happened:
I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works
    fine for several days.
One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content
db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine.
Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data"
When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary
error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!
Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving
it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature? Can force reactivating it help??????? I am just lost and going crazy now!
    Please help.
    Asif

We just ran into this exact problem this morning. At 7:26am the database just dismounted. No errors just dismount. Now they won't mount and we can't run eseutil /p or /d as it immediately errors out. /k works and no errors found.
Bandaid fix was to go into the EMS and simply move the public and private db to a nas. Now they mount fine. This is strictly a temp solution to get the server back online but something was changed in host machine drive setup (hyperv with compellent san)
According to the host service (county systems) nothing was done or changed and no updates.
At any rate it is now working and we just need to know what can be done to migrate back to the san and off the nas.
Here is the error when trying to mount - the key is the -583 as none of the other errors comply with is special instance
Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database 2017935857'.

for Linux Starter Kit by Oracle Press. If anyone has this book they
can refer to pages 41-44 for the examples I followed.
As sysdba in sqplplus using the STARTUP command I can not Mount the
database -step 2 of the 3 stage process (Start, Mount and Open the
database) of opening an Oracle database.
I show the errors I encountered when I did the first 2 of the 3 steps
in the step-by-step mode (STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=, ALTER DATABASE
MOUNT) in the sqlplus session and alert log respectively with startup
nomount and alter database mount for this sqlplus session.
Additionally I show the init.ora file lines referring to control file
which seem to be referred to by the sqlplus error messages and the
alert.log file. Perhaps some can give me some advice as what I can try
    to fix this problem.
At the end of this e-mail I added several questions I had in regard to the control
    files. Any help is appreciated.
Well, here are the sqlplus session results and its alert.log file:

    1) What are control files susposed to

    I used the
    unix find /usr/oracle \*ctl* -print
command to locate files with a ctl extension.
This resulted in about a dozen such files in
    different directories as shown below:

    2) On page 100 in the book Oracle 8i A Beginners's
by Oracle Press mention is made of a
CREATE CONTROLFILE command that can under
    circumstances be used to re-create a control-file.
but that is all that is said about it. Perhaps
you might know something more about it.
    3) Would you recommend any good text for
Oracle DBA's, especially for the problem of the sort
    that I am encountering?
    [email protected]
    null

It's probably not supported on RHEL5/Centos5/etc., but...
You can get the installer to function using the following steps:
    - extract the cal_linux_*.tar.gz, and cd into the OracleCalendar_inst directory
In there is the actual installer, cal_linux.
    - the cal_linux is shell script wrapped around some binary blobs. The installer's
problem is that Oracle is setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 environment
variable, which is a mistake on RHEL5. You need to make it not set that variable,
but you need to do so in a way that the size of the shell script does not change at all,
and none of the binary blobs are impacted.
    - the approach I took was
    mv cal_linux cal_linux.BAK
    sed -e 's/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL= /g' < cal_linux.BAK > cal_linux
    chmod a+rx cal_linux
    cal_linux -i gui
Note: you must have exactly 5 spaces in the substitution part of the sed command, because you're replacing 5 characters (2.2.5), and the size of the shell script must not change.
If you do that, the installer should run (one warning from awk still) and you should be able to install the product.

  • From SharePoint Content Database, Using SQL-Server Query how to fetch the 'Document GUID' based on 'Content Type'

I want to get all the documents based on content type using SQL Server Query. I know that, querying the content database without using API is not advisable, but still i want to perform this action through SQL Server Query. Can someone assist ?

You're right, it's not advisable, may result in corruption of your databases and might impact performance and stability. But assuming you're happy to do that then it is possible.
Before you go down that route, have you considered using something more safe like PowerShell? I've seen a script exactly like the one you describe and it would take far less time to do it through PS than it would through SQL.

  • Error in taking backup of RBS enabled content database!

    Hi All,
I have implemented RBS for SharePoint 2013 / SQL Server 2012. While I need to
take backup of RBS enable site collection and I received the following
    errors
    Site Collection Backup
Current Job Status No operation in progress. Previous Job
    Status Failed
    Completed 2/15/2015 3:55 AM Duration (hh:mm:ss) 0:00:02
Recovery Step To recover the data, use the PowerShell restore command
Restore-SPSite. For more details, type Restore-SPSite -? at the PowerShell command prompt.
Error Message There was a generic database error. For more information, see the included exception.
I could not find any relevant TechNet or blog post pertaining to this error. SharePoint 2013 gives general
    backup and restore strategies.
Q: How could take a backup and restore for RBS enabled content database?
Please suggest how I could achieve this. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sandy

    Hi Sandy,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to backup and restore RBS enabled content database in SharePoint.
If you use the local FILESTREAM provider with RBS, you can use built-in SharePoint tools to back up and restore. These operations back up and restore both the metadata and the BLOB store. If you use the remote RBS provider, you must carefully coordinate
    the backup and restore processes.
It is very important to take note of the filestream provider name. Then you can detach database, and copy primary file, log file and BLOB storage folder to new server and attach.
It is also important to remember to enable FILESTREAM on all nodes of the cluster. Without it, SQL query to attach database doesn't work.
Here are some posts, please check if they are useful for you:

    Hi,
    Thanks to share your post.
For the issue, I think it may due to the wrong handling of the encoding type “UTF-8”, please refer to the followed article, they may give you a hand:

  • How to Manually Restore SharePoint Content Database from DPM Backup to Alternative Farm

I have restored a content database of a site collection from a DPM backup, and the result is the MDF and LDF files of the database in a directory I specified in the restored wizard in DPM.
In my other SharePoint farm (a test environment) simply trying to attach these files in the target farm's SQL server produces an error as follows:
"Paths that begin with \\?\GlobalRoot are internal to the kernel and should not be opened by managed applications. (mscorlib) "
Given I have the DPM restored database, on an alternative farm, how can I manually restore this content database? What are the required steps?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi
Gr8 - don't ask me to explain, somehow SQL caches the backup location which is from a snapshot starting with
\\?\GlobalRoot and copying them discards that so they can me mounted.
    Glad that resolved your issue.

    Hi Vien,
    Have you checked Martina's suggestion?
If the issue persists, I would like to clarify the following things for further research:
    1. Please check if there exists DAG in your Exchange 2013.
    2. Please check if the directory 'D:\Logs\DB01' exists.
What's more, I recommend you to use the ESEUTIL/mh cmdlet to check the database status when you create a database.
Hope it helps. If there are any problems, please feel free to let me know.

  • SharePoint Content Database Log Truncation

Upon searching the web I found that DPM 2010 does not truncate the SQL log when it does the express full. Logs are truncated only when someone does a incremental (log backup)
Now For sharepoint content db, DPM does not do SQL transaction log incremental backup right?
So how are the content db logs truncated?
My recovery type is Full (we use mirroring). Should I backup the databases manually for the log truncation to occur?

They way this works is that DPM will back up the content database, and then back up the ldf file associated with it.  You will see entries in the application event log corresponding to each action.  The important ones to note will be:
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        MSSQL$MIRRORA
    Date:          4/28/2015 7:53:17 PM
    Event ID:      18264
    Task Category: Backup
    Level:         Information
    Computer:      CButchSQL1.domain.com
    Description:
Database backed up. Database: WSS_Content_number4, creation date(time): 2015/04/24(19:20:20), pages dumped: 2282, first LSN: 173:445:49, last LSN: 173:465:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=VIRTUAL_DEVICE:
{'{72BA7E1C-DB2D-4C40-B4A1-BDAF62B6E213}1'}). This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
This one of course indicates your content database was backed up.  After that, you should see:
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        MSSQL$MIRRORA
    Date:          4/28/2015 7:53:25 PM
    Event ID:      18265
    Task Category: Backup
    Level:         Information
    Computer:      CButchSQL1.domain.com
    Description:
Log was backed up. Database: WSS_Content_number4, creation date(time): 2015/04/24(19:20:20), first LSN: 173:163:1, last LSN: 173:472:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=DISK: {'C:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MIRRORA\MSSQL\DATA\DPM_SQL_PROTECT\CBUTCHSQL1\MIRRORA\WSS_Content_number4_log.LDF\TempLog\TempLog.log'}). This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
DPM essentially does a temporary backup of the log to the temp location listed and immediately deletes it.  Once the log file is backed up for a database in full recovery mode, SQL will then truncate the log automatically for you.  If you see the
18265 event and the db is in full recovery mode, then SQL is failing somehow to truncate and should be investigated.  If you see 18264 but then no 18265, then you should check to be sure this isn't DPM R2 UR5 protecting SP with SQL Always On backend as
we are investigating an issue where DPM is not properly backing up the log files. Right now, you can manually truncate those log files until a fix is created.
