Mouse buttons configuration

I have the Logitech MX600 mouse that comes with the Cordless MX3000 Desktop and i am trying to configure the back/forward buttons.
I have tried everything i could find on the forums and the wiki but no luck. The configuration i used with the evdev driver is
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "evdev"
#Option "Name" "Logitech USB Receiver"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/event3"
Option "Buttons" "12"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
I have also tried commenting out the Name option and commenting the Device one but nothing. The config i use with the "mouse" driver is
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Auto" # Auto detect
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Buttons" "12"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
and again no luck.
I am using running the stock 2.6.19 Arch kernel and Xorg 7.1. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply but as i stated in my first post, i already did what is on that wiki page. In fact when i use the device name as an option, X won't even start and i get this output in the log
II) Mouse1-usb-0000:00:1d.2-2/input0: Init

Using evdev i can only start X when using the device option in xorg.conf and setting it to the event i get from /proc/bus/input/devices. But even then the back/forward buttons are not working, they just behave like the left mouse button.
Oh, i forgot to add that i tweak the buttons with  xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 10 11 12 6 7" otherwise nothing works with evdev.

  • Logitech Mediaplay mouse button configuration

I have a Logitech MediaPlay 15-button mouse, which I have never gotten entirely working in Linux, due to poor driver support, and my lack of desire to use hacks.
With the lastest version of evdev (1.1.2, from testing), all buttons are finally recognized, but they do not configure themselves properly.
As the device configures itself, it is assigned 20 buttons (even though there are really only 15), and tilting the scrollwheel left or right generates two buttons clicks (7,11 and 6,12 respectively).  Forward/back is assigned to buttons 6 and seven (that's right, the tilt wheel), but that can be fixed easily with xmodmap.  Side scrolling does not seem to work at all.  Buttons 1+3 are left and right click, and 4+5 as expected.  Button two (middle click) seems to search Google for whatever text I last highlighted--I don't know if that's a problem, or if it's just a weird Firefox setting.
The rest of the buttons all act as left-click, but they should have media functions (volume, play/pause, skip forward/back).  Once the main buttons are figured out, thouse should be handled with XBindKeys, I think(?), but that's problem for later.
So, my main problem right now is getting rid of the duplicate button events from the tilt wheel, followed immediately by making that same tilt wheel handle horizontal scrolling (with any luck, fixing the first will fix the second, too).
    Any ideas?

I have this mouse and I use lmpcm_usb driver :
    http://daemon.prozone.ws/~david/projects/lmpcm_usb/
    Arch package :
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … =1&ID=3186
for loading lmpcm_usb module at boot before usbhid module, just add this in your /etc/rc.conf : '!usbhid lmpcm_usb usbhid'
    ex:
    MODULES=( yourmodules ... !usbhid lmpcm_usb usbhid)

  • Kensington Expert Mouse (Trackball) Button Configuration

I'm trying to set up my trackball mouse. Most of the buttons etc. work out of the box, but I need to make a couple of tweaks.
I've spent ages trawling the net and the arch wiki  and I simply can't get my head around this. Especially with the new xorg changes and most of the docs now being out of date.
The mouse has 4 buttons + a scroll wheel.  I've managed to map them using xev:
    Bottom Left Button: 1
    Top Left Button: 2
    Bottom Right Button: 3
    Top Right Button: 8
    Scroll up: 4
    Scroll down: 5
At the moment 1 is a left click and 3 is a right click.  Button 8 seems to be "back" and button 2 seems to be middle click. The scroll wheel works as expected.
What I want is for button 2 to be a double left click and button 8 to be a right click.  Can anyone help me figure this out?

I've figured out how to do the double click thing :-) Here it is for anyone else interested:
    1) Run xev and move your mouse pointer into the white square.  Now click the button you wish to map to a double click.
    2) Make a mental note of which button number xev reveals that mouse button to be - in my case, the top left button is button 8
    3) install xbindkeys and xautomation - the latter can be found in AUR
    4) run:
    xbindkeys --defaults > /home/your-user-name/.xbindkeysrc
replacing "your-user-name" with (obviously) your user name
    5) add the following at the bottom, replacing Y withthe number you made a note of in step 2
    "/usr/bin/xte 'mouseclick 1' 'mouseclick 1' &"
    b:Y + Release
    and save
    6) run
    xbindkeys -n -v
to check if there are any errors in your config file
    7) If that has all worked then you need to configure xbindkeys to run at X startup - the method will vary depending on you DE/WM - I use fluxbox and so simply added
    xbindkeys &
    to my ~/.fluxbox/startup file
    Hope that helps!

  • Spaces can no longer be activated by a mouse button

I used to have Spaces activated by mouse button 4. This no longer works, even though it is still configured as such.
I know that SL is detecting my mouse properly, because button 4 works for other things. For example, I can assign mouse button 4 to "show desktop", and this works. So I believe it is a Spaces issue, not a mouse driver issue.
I have also tried assigning other mouse buttons (3, 5) to activate spaces, and it still does not work.
I can activate spaces using my keyboard or clicking on the dock icon.

Similar problem. I had "Activate Spaces" set to ^0. It stopped working after 10.6.1 update and no matter what I set it to, or whether or not the checkbox under Keyboard Shortcuts is on or off it will not work. Error sound (Ping) and, if in a finder window, selects the first item in the window. I know the key is getting through without getting caught by the right handler.
Is there a way (Terminal? Xcode?) to dig to the definition and see why ^1 will take me to space 1, etc. but only the main "Activate" won't?

  • Mavericks Mail-cannot scroll down to select a group by holding mouse button.

I do not like the new Mavericks mail. When I attempt to hold the left mouse button and scroll down to select a group, the program automatically locks onto the first message I touch and moves it. Prior to Mavericks scrolling was an easy process. This new mail is very clumsy and I have to select one message, then hold shift key, then selelct the last message in the group. ....Clumsy and slow.
Does anyone know a workaround for this? The tutorials don't address it and the "What's new in Mail?" file doesn't either.  If there is not a workaround, is there a way to disable the Mavericks configuration in Mail and go back to regular mail? I'd appreciate any tips or help on  this.

Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces.  :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.
Thanks again for the help--hopefully this workaround will be persistent. Fingers crossed!

  • Problem highlighting and moving things with left mouse button on Sat A100

    Hi,
my problem started after a reinstall, I wanted to highlight something on a web page, then copy and paste it, but couldn't.
Then I wanted to move the bar on a excel worksheet, but couldn't, the cursor changes shape etc nut it wont let me highlight or move stuff?
(i've downloaded the most recent drivers etc)
It's a bit like the right and left click actions are a bit mixed up?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Grant

Mouse button configuration can be set for right-handed and left-handed users.
Have you checked this option in mouse properties?

    Hi Eradest,
I guess there is some confusion since it's a mouse/kbd combo, it creates 2 events, one for the keyboard og 1 for the mouse, and the tricky part is that the one for the mouse also features some extra keyboard keys.
I tried your suggestion, but still same result, if I don't specify event, then the mouse doesn't work.
If I comment out both mouse and keyboard X autodetect it and use evdev for both it seems, however then I have the problem that X crash when I click any other mouse button than button1
I've also tried using the default keyboard setting and let X autodetect it, but it makes no difference.

  • Mouse button activation of Spaces stops working requiring reboot to restore

I am using a Kensington Expert Mouse with 4 buttons. I have the upper right mouse button mapped to "Button 4". I have Spaces configured to be activated by Button 4.
Everything works great. I love it. However, periodically it just stops working - meaning I hit the mouse button and nothing happens. I can still hit F8 to get Spaces - just no mouse button.
I have checked both the configuration of the mouse and of Spaces in preferences to make sure nothing has changed. It is all setup the same way. It just doesn't work.
BUT ... if I reboot, the functionality comes back.
I can't tell is this is part of the problem but I do put the laptop to sleep frequently and it may be that this functionality doesn't come back after a sleep. I haven't paid close attention.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    -Steve

I am also experiencing this problem. For me, the Dock seems to crash every once in awhile and then the mouse binding for Spaces no longer works. When this happens, the OS still recognizes me pushing that mouse button so I don't think it's a mouse problem. F8 works while the mouse button won't work.
This is what I saw in my logs last time it happened:

  • Epiphany and non-working back/foward mouse buttons

Hi guys. I checked out and used the following wiki page to get my back/foward mouse buttons to work. It didn't work.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … ns_Working
I have a Logitech M510 mouse. The back/foward buttons work in Chrome, Firefox and Midori but not Epiphany. How can I get them to work? I tried the following:
Thumb Buttons - Forward and Back
Note: The following maybe redundant depending on whether xev detects all your mouse buttons correctly (functions can be mapped on a per-app basis) or you want to change the default behaviour.
To do this we need to map keystrokes to the desired mouse buttons and install xvkbd and xbindkeys.
    # pacman -S xvkbd xbindkeys
In most modern applications which use back/forward features, XF86Back is mapped to back and XF86Forward is mapped to forward by default. On most MX mice the thumb buttons resolve to 8 & 9. If your mouse is different, check button numbers using xev and replace the numbers used in the example (b:8 & b:9).
So if you have an MX mouse you would create the file ~/.xbindkeysrc, containing:
    # Mouse Buttons
    "xvkbd -xsendevent -text "\[XF86Back]""
    m:0x0 + b:8
    "xvkbd -xsendevent -text "\[XF86Forward]""
    m:0x0 + b:9
Now to test... Run the following command and if it works as expected remember to add xbindkeys to .xinitrc or somewhere where it will be executed each time X starts. Also, this should work with Epiphany and Konqueror without any additional configuration or use of imwheel.
Then I tried the xmodmap tweaking and that still didn't work. I'm not sure what to do next. I am starting to use epiphany more and more because firefox formatting isn't accurate on some sites I go to. Epiphany renders it correctly.
When I add the device settings in xorg.conf, it wont allow me to start X. No screens found. My xorg.conf is blank other than what I was shown to put in there from the wiki page. So I'm completly lost.

Looks like this is a known BUG in Epiphany and apprently it's fixed for 3.8. Check https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337852 for more information.

  • The right click menu pops up after I push the right mouse button, instead of when I release it.

I am using an extension All-In-One Gestures. It works on my other installation of Firefox 4 - particularly, the right-click menu pops up if I click right mouse button and then release it so I can perform gesture or turn the wheel instead of getting a right click menu.
But on this installation (basically the same addons and OS), the right-click menu pops up on pushing down the right mouse button so the right-button+wheel gestures do not work, and the menu stays there while I am performing the gesture which is rather annoying.
So I though maybe there is some obscure configuration option to toggle to make right-click menu pop up after the button release? Or is this entirely the extension's fault? Note that it does work as expected on other installation...

You have to enable in Firefox
-> Options -> Content -> Activate JavaScript (yes) -> More
-> Allow scripts the following actions
-> Inactivate or replace context menu (yes)
in order to allow All-in-one-Gesture to block the immediate appearance of the context menu.
If you forbid Firefox JavaScript and/or the manipulation of the context menu by use of JavaScript, All-in-one-Gesture cannot work properly.

  • Portal Content Studio - mouse button does not work anymore

if you use the portal content studio
    content-administration > portal-content
you can configure the portal objects by browsing them and clicking the right mouse button.
That worked but now the mouse button doesn't work - left mouse button works as expected (with left mouse button one can navigate through the objects, iViews, working sets, etc...).
Right mouse button does nothing, portal objects could not be edited. Of course, the mouse is Ok.
    Is this strange error known?
    How to avoid it?
Is there a possibility to reset this application, so it restarts/re-initializes correctly?
Even a restart of SAP NetWeaver didn't help.
Or can one use another method to perform an action instead of the right mouse button?

  • Right mouse button - short list

    Hello,
I have got Apple MacBook Pro 13.3” (ME865LL/A) witch OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 and I’ve noticed that when I click right mouse button on the desktop or in the Finder I’ve got very short list. There is only „New Folder/Catalog (I don’t know how it calls in english cuz I have polish version but I hope that you know what I’m talking about)” and „Information”. I remember that previously I had more things there and I don’t know what I’ve done that this things have disappeared. It is worth noting that I use „Total Finder” but when I turn it off the problem does not disappear.
Below - how it looks like. On the top "New Folder" and on the bottom "Information". There's no more things.
Have someone ever come up against this kind of problem?
    Patrick B.

I've just figured it out! TotalFinder causes that these things disappeared from context menu and there left only 2 things. But why? How Can I configure TotalFinder to have more position to choose.

  • Right mouse button strange behaviour

    Hy there
When dragging a file from one folder to an other using the right mouse button the normal behaviour on windows 7 is to show a menu where I can choose: copy here, move here or create shortcut here. Hello @exforester1,
I understand that your right-click no longer displays the context menu for you on your computer running Windows 7. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7), which will walk you through restoring your computer back to a point in time when the menu did show up properly. This should bring back the functionality that you are missing.

  • Using middle trackpoint button as a middle mouse button?

I just got a T500 to replace my dead R51. One of the things I really liked about my old Thinkpad was that I could use the middle trackpoint button as a third mouse button, which is great for opening links in new tabs in Firefox or copy/pasting in console windows. However as far as I can tell the only options in the mouse configuration are "Scroll", "Zoom", and "Neither", and neither just disables the button entirely. I should mention I'm using Windows Vista. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Nothing?

  • Forward backward mouse buttons in konqueror?

Is there some trick to getting the forward and backward buttons on my mouse working with konqueror/dolphin?  They work perfectly in firefox without me doing anything, but in konqueror they don't work.
If I go to configure shortcuts it doesn't register when I click the buttons.  I've run xev and they show up as button 8 and button 9.  I've set my xorg.conf mouse section as per the wiki to get 7 button mice to work but still no dice.

IMHO, this is the easiest way to configure your mouse buttons' behaviour.
