When using Bootcamp and Vista, you'll lose the tap-to-click (or right-click with two-fingers) functionality. You must use the button for those features, which still work properly without tapping.

  • How do I simulate a right-click in Windows when connected with Remote Desktop 8.0 for Mac OS X?

When connecting to a remote Windows 7 OS from Mac OS X 10.8.5 with Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.24091, I'm not able to simulate a right-click with the Apple magic mouse.
On an older version Microsoft Remote Desktop Client version 2.1.1, I can hold down shift+ctl on the Mac and click the magic mouse to simulate a right-click in Windows.  With this new version RDP 8.0, I can't find any way to simulate a right-click,
other than to select "Swap mouse buttons" under settings, and then every click is a right-click and then I'm no longer able to left-click (which is even worse).  I've tried several key combinations and nothing seems to work.  Am I missing
something simple here with the new RDP 8.0 application, or is the right-click simulation not (yet) functional?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

In order to make use of the right-click inside an open session you have three options:
Standard PC two button USB mouse
Apple Magic Mouse: To enable right-click, clickSystem Preferences in the dock, click Mouse, and then enable Secondary click.
Apple Magic Trackpad or MacBook Trackpad: To enable right-click, click System Preferences in the dock, click Mouse, and then enable Secondary click.

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • How to use windows environment variable "%appdata%" in TEXT_IO built-in

    Hello Sir/Madam,
I'm currently using TEXT_IO built-in package to write data file user's "C" drive in Oracle Forms 6i on Windows XP OS. We are in the process of upgrading the OS to Windows7. This new version does not allow to write to "C" or "D" drive. I was wondering how I can use windows environment variable "%appdata%" in this built-in to write the data file to user's AppData folder?
    I would appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Vani Sonti

You are obviously not familiar with the architecture of webforms. See here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/275632-133265.pdf
I guess you are running your forms locally, so the forms server and the client run on the very same machine. This won't be the case once you run in production, as you will have an application server and clients connecting to the server.
text_io, tool_env and all the forms built ins will be executed on the machine the forms runtime runs on, and in a 3 tier architecture this is the application server, not the client as the real client will run just a java applet which actually just does what the forms runtime on the server tells it to do (or passes client side events like mouse clicks to the forms runtime on the server).
A very simple explanation for the architecture would be that the whole GUI part has been ripped off the forms runtime and put into a java applet; the logic part (the old-fashioned forms runtime) where the whole Forms PL/SQL code is executed communicates with the GUI part (which is implemented as a java applet) via HTTP, so there is no need to have both running on the very same machine.
So if you are writing a file with text_io on c:\dummy.txt this file will be generated on the application server machine as it is executed where the forms runtime runs. If you read environment variables with tool_env.getvar you will get the environment variable from the application server machine.
If you need those variables from your application server then those built-in packages are what you need, but if you need the real client variables there is no way around java in webforms 6i. But the beans should be simple enough to have them written within no time ;)
    cheers

  • Mouse right-click function doesn't work in Bookmarks (Mac)

I recently switched from PCs to Macs. No problem downloading Firefox and transferring old bookmarks and other settings, with one exception. With the PCs, when I right-clicked a particular bookmark under Bookmarks I got a series of 12 options (from Open, Open in New Window to Delete, Sort by Name, Properties). I used these a lot to delete bookmarks, change names, alphabetize lists, etc. I can now do most of these things under the Manage Bookmarks setting, but when I right click bookmarks now the new bookmark I click on just replaces the one on screen (ie, the right click does exactly what the left click does). I am using two different mice (Apple Mighty Mouse with Leopard, Microsoft Wheel Mouse with Tiger) and the right click function behaves as expected in other programs. Are these mouse right click Bookmark functions supposed to appear with the Firefox for Mac? If so, any ideas how to resolve my problem?

Can someone explain to me why it's possible in Chrome on Mac, but not on Firefox? This is my 2nd biggest complaint about FF on the Mac, only surpassed by missing favicons in bookmarks. Chrome does both very well.

  • Trying to use javax comm api in Windows Environment

I am working on developing a module to dial a phone number in a Windows environment. This is to test a voicemail connection so it isn't, necessarily, calling a modem.
    A couple of questions:
    1) I found the javax comm api but it appears Sun has only provided a Solaris and Linux version - where would I find a Windows version?
    2) I was planning on dialing a modem with the voicemail phone number (programmatically, of course). I, then, want to recognize response and react to it - possibly stopping only with seeing that the phone number answered (since I don't want to write voice recognition software). Am I on the right track?
    Ed

I don't know of any devices named "/dev/term/a" - and that's both Linux and Solaris.

  • No right click on windows how do you fix it

its really what the title says. i have installed windows xp home ed. and the right click doesnt work could anyone help.
    thanks,
    matt

I believe there is no second button under the trackpad button, so what you'll have to do is set it up to allow for you to control+click to substitute as a right click. OR you can use a usb or bluetooth mouse when you use windows.
Here is a website that explains what to do, I noticed it also has the file you need available for download.

  • First time in windows environment

I've downloaded and installed SDK and JRE 1.4.2 beta but its my first time programming java in a windows environment. my question is how to link the commands so i can use java in from dos
    ie)c:\javac prog.java
    c:\java prog
something to do with linking the commands but not sure how in windows.
    thanks.

An alternative to manually editing the auotexec.bat file is to make the setting via the Sytem Properties.
    1. Open the System Properties by either:
    a. hitting the windows key and the pause/break key simultaneously, or
    b. right click My Computer on your desktop and choose properties or
    c. via the control panel off of the start menu
    2. On the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button
    3. Find the variable PATH, highlight it and click edit (if it is not present (which would be a very rare thing) you can click new to add it).
    4. Insert the path to your Java SDK (such as C:\jdk1.4.1\) - you must separate listings with a semi-colon, so for example: C:\someotherProgram\;C:\jdk1.4.1\;C:\stuff\
On some versions of Windows, you may also need to place the Java bin directory in your PATH so you would need to put: C:\jdk1.4.1\;C:\jdk1.4.1\bin\
    5. Click to close all the dialog boxes.
    6. With some versions of Windows you will need to reboot
The exact steps and location of some of the tabs and settings varies slightly from one version of Windows to the next, so search Windows help for "Environment Variables" if you have any problems.
    Good Luck

  • HT3986 How do I right click on Windows installed using Bootcamp?

How do I right click on Windows installed using Bootcamp?

It should work the same way it does in OSX, but for it to work correctly, you need to install the Boot Camp drivers in Windows. You can do this by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OSX, then creating the "Windows support software (drivers)" package. Follow the instructions there, then use the resulting thumbdrive to install the drivers and apps into Windows. Then you should be able to two-finger-click the touchpad or right-click your mighty mouse or other two-button-enabled mouse.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407 for more info on this.
Caveat: I've done this, and I've found that the two-finger-click in Windows is iffy. That is, it frequently triggers a left-click function instead of right-click. :-/

Hold the shift key upon boot, that will disable any boot loading third party kernel extension files.
    Once you get in:
1: backup your user file folders to a external storage drive
2: go around and update all your third party software everywhere, including right clicking on third party system preference panes and removing them if necessary
3: any third party software that can't be updated, consider removing.
4: Look in your Console log files for "kernal protection" type messages to get a clue what's causing your problems.
Read about Gray, White and Blue, Kernel Panics here, they are usually always caused by third party software incompatibilities, but not always.
