Move Apps Database from Solaris to NT

Hi,
This is the problem that I am having:
We have installed Oracle Apps 11.5.5 TEST instance on Solaris. Because of space constraints, we
wanted to move the database to a NT box. This NT box also contained Oracle Apps 11.5.5. So, what
we did was:
1. we stopped all the services in the NT box except for the database and the listener.
2. Changed the tnsnames.ora and the dbc file in the solaris box to refer to the NT box.
3. Added a new dbc file <NT HOST NAME>_<SID>.dbc in the directory $FND_TOP/secure, so that the
dbc file refers to NT box.
4. Started all the services on the Solaris box except for the database and the listener.
When trying to login to Apps, we are getting the error:
"Database Log in Failed"
When I try to login to Apps using http://<machine name>.<domain name>:<port
name>/dev60cgi/f60cgi, I initially got the error "APP-FND-01516".
Then, I modified the port number in the Forms Listener and the dbc file.
Now, I am asked to enter the username and password after which the list of responsibilities of
the user is correctly displayed. When I select the responsibility, I get the error
"APP-FND-01508: Failed to connect. AOL was unable to connect to the ORACLE database.
Action: Check for Oracle Errors to find out why the connect failed.
Action: Check that you have entered the correct username and password by using SQL*PLUS and
entering the same username and password."
When I say OK, I get one more msg saying that:
"There are no valid navigations for this responsibility.
Cause: AOL was unable to load the menu for the current responsibility.
Cause: The menu compilation failed.
Cause: There are no navigable forms associated with this responsibility.
Action: Contact ur sys admin. Ensure that a valid menu, containing navigable forms, is defined
for the responsibility. Ensure that the menu is properly compiled."
When I press OK I get back the same list of responsibilities.
What do I do to make this DB migration work?
Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. This is urgent because it is holding up my teams's work.
Thanks In Advance

  • Moving an Oracle Database from Solaris to AIX

    Hi all,
I have been asked to move an SAP system using an Oracle database from
Solaris to AIX (on an IBM P590).
Most of the move is straightforward, except the Oracle database
transfer. It would make my life so much easier if I could simply
restore the Oracle datafiles from an off-line backup of the Solaris
system and then link it to a clean install of the Oracle binaries on
the AIX system, rather than have to do an export and import.
Is this possible, after all the AIX Oracle binaries would be the same
patch level as the Solaris binaries and the file systems would be the
same. Also as it would be an offline backup we would not have to do
any recovery, so the archive logs and the original redo logs would not
    be required.
Does anyone know if this is possible or has actually executed it
successfully, any hints and tips on the gotchas would be greatly
    appreciated.
    TIA
    Chris aka BoobBoo

    Hello Chris,
unfortunately you didn't write anything about your oracle version or your backup mechanism like RMAN,etc..
I think you will use Solaris on a SPARC architecture and not on x86? (same endian)
If you have RMAN and 10gR2 then you can use the "Database Transport Across Same Endian Platforms":
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/wnbradv.htm
    > RMAN now supports the CONVERT DATABASE command, which can prepare a whole database for transport to a new platform that uses the same endian format. Database transport across platforms provides a faster and easier way to move databases from one platform to another than previous solutions requiring the use of Data Pump.
Metalinknote #413586.1 has a FAQ and a step on step guide.
If you have created your tablespaces under Oracle 10g (no oracle upgrade from previous releases!!) you can use the "Transportable tablespace feature" and copy the database files. SAP has published note #1035051 for that.

To move/migrate the 11i Apps Database alone means you need to follow the export/import method.
Please refer the note: 362205.1 "10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i"
In general steps to follow the DB migration is :
    1. create the complete export file in source database
2.create a new DB in the target instance
    3.perform the import
4.create the new auto-config and sync with apps tier

Hi, How to move SQL database from one location to another location i.e. from C' drive to D' drive ? please share some link.
    Thanks and Regards, Rangnath Mali

    Hi Rangnath,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to move databased from C drive to D drive.
You can detach Database so that the files become independent, cut and paste the files from source to destination and attach again.

  • Migrating database from solaris to linux

I am not sure if there is a migration section here. However, I would like to migrate a 9.2.0.8 database from Solaris to linux and upgrade it to 11g. I reckon that both platforms have different endian format and using rman convert+transportable database and so on will be work if I can upgrade the database to 10 or 11g.
My question is that since the database is small around 35GB, can I use just exp/imp? If yes but can someone outline what will be needed to take care of the endian format and other hidden hints.
I believe someone must have done this ------> 9i to 10g or 9i to 11g across platform.
    Thanks.

It just depends on what how you define 'large'. Generally speaking exp/imp is slow when compared to Data Pump or transportable tablespaces (but both cannot be used in your case).
I don't think that 16 GB is large but you have to test in your environment how much time import is going to take: import needs always more time than export.

  • Best Way to move MB database from single XCH 2010 to 2013 DAG

    Hi,
We are migrating from a Single Exchange 2010 sp3 server to a 2-node exchange 2013 DAG cluster, located in another AD site.
I can move a mailbox from 2010 to 2013 without issue, but the WAN link between 2010 and 2013 is very small.
It will take us too long to move all mailboxes with move-mailbox over the line.
Is there another way to move the mailboxes or Databases more quickly?
I was thinking about copying the DB's to a physical disk from 2010 and then move and mount it on 2013. Is that even possible? I explored the possibility to seed the DB to 2013, but don't have the option to do so. 2010 is installed on 2008R2 standard.
We prefer a short downtime and move over everthing in one go as opposed to having coeexistance for longer period of time to allow the move mailbox over the WAN to complete.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You can't move the databases from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
I can think of three options.
    1.  Move the Exchange 2013 server to the same LAN as the Exchange 2010 server, move the mailboxes, then move the server back.
    2.  Move the Exchange 2010 server to the same LAN as the Exchange 2013 server and move the mailboxes.
    3.  Install a new Exchange 2010 server on the same LAN as the current Exchange 2010 server, create a DAG, add mailbox database copies on the new Exchange 2010 server, move that server to the same LAN as the Exchange 2013 server, activate the databases
on that LAN, and then move the mailboxes.
3a.  A variation of #3 is to build the Exchange 2010 server on the same LAN as the Exchange 2013 server and perform a manual seed of the database copies.  This is more trouble than option 3.
Moving Exchange servers between sites is possible but there are other issues you would need to solve.  You might be best off just getting a temporary increase in your WAN link capacity for the period of the mailbox move.

  • Move a database from one server to another

    Hello All,
I am using Oracle 11g R2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 32 bit.
I have 2 servers , LinuxActive and LinuxPassive. I am trying to dismount the file system of the datafiles and control files ... from one server and mount it on the other.
I previously opened a thread here concerning this subject and reached a result that it can be done, now i have questions about the details.
I have installed Oracle software on both servers where ORACLE_BASE is /u01/app/oracle and ORACLE_HOME is /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 on both servers.
I created an orcl database on LinuxActive where all its datafiles, control files, redo logs, flash_recovery_area is on a disk group mounted under /oradata.
I want to dismount /oradata from LinuxActive and mount it to LinuxPassive and start up the orcl database from LinuxPassive instead of LinuxActive.
I may need to revert back /oradata to LinuxActive.
What steps should I do? should I migrate my spfile also to /oradata?
Should I create an orcl database on LinuxPassive?
Do I start up my database like i do when i build an Oracle dataguard database ? from a pfile of the old database?

    RMAN duplicate will be simpler.
As you are in 11g, you can perform duplicate from active database.
    Create PFILE in new location,
Change "CONTROL_FILES" parameter to new mounpoint.
    Perform RMAN duplicate
In both the cases you have to take care of parameters, DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT & LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT.

  • How to copy/move Portal database from one machine to another?

I am receiving a ORA-22973 error (size of object identifier exceeds maxmum size allowed) on the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table when attempting to import my entire "portal30" schema from one database to another on different Windows NT Servers.
Background: I had Portal 3.0.9.8 installed, configured, and running with the following setup:
    Machine 1: Windows NT 4.0 SP 6, Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2, Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8
    Machine 2: Windows NT 4.0 SP 6, Oracle 8i Database 8.1.7.0.0
We no longer have use of Machine 2 and needed to move the database over to Machine 1.
    I performed the following steps:
    1. Installed Oracle 8i database 8.1.7.0.0 on Machine 1.
    2. Set up the tablespaces in the database on Machine 1 to match the same names and sizes of the tablespaces in the database on Machine 2.
    3. Used the Oracle "exp" command to export the entire database that resided on Machine 2.
    4. Copied the ".dmp" file to Machine 1.
    5. Used the Oracle "imp" command to import the entire database on Machine 1.
    6. The import completed successfully with warnings. But I had received the ORA-22973 error during the import process.
    7. After it completed I compared the list of tables and packages in the "portal30" schema between the two databases. The wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table is missing.
    8. I tried to export and import only the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table between the two databases, but continue to receive the ORA-22973 error.
Without the table being created, access to the portal cannot be achieved.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Is there anyway to create the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table without receiving the noted error?
    2. Is there any other workable way to get the portal database from Machine 2 to Machine 1?
I am aware of the portal import/export utilities but that would require me to run through the 2 hour install of Portal 3.0.9.8 on the database on Machine 1 and then individually export and import all the portal components (security, pages, applications, content library, etc). I merely wanted to transfer the entire database from one machine to another, so I felt the Oracle exp/imp utilities would be quicker and less work.

    Hi,
I've been hitting problems with Portal 3.0.9.8.1 against 8.1.7.2.1 on NT - i.e., Intermedia not working at all, and have been advised by support to move back to 8.1.7.1.1.
I don't want to lose any of my content in the Portal since the db upgrade and am wondering on what is the best way to do this.
The version of the Portal will be the same so I am hoping I can just use the Portal export and import utilities, as afterall, it is just data and the schema structures are the same between db versions. I'm also hoping that the Portal export doesn't use the standard Oracle EXP tool as it doesn't work anymore on 8.1.7.2.1 on NT!!

  • Need to Clone A Database From Solaris to Linux Oracle 11g

    Hi Team,
I am using Oracle Database Version 11.2.0.1.
We have 6 production servers and all of them are in solaris box. We have a new requirement from application to use Linux boxes and for that we need to perform a database refresh from Solaris to Linux box.
I can do it by Export and Import technique. But I want some other way to perform this database refresh activity.
1] Can I do it while taking a rman backup from solaris box( Source) and restore it back to Linux( Target)?
2] Can I do it using transportable tablespace method?
I am aware of performing this using export-import but as our database size is near of 1TB I can't apply this technique.
I need your suggestions in this activity, please put your opinion on the correct method I should opt for and along with that share me the supporting document where things are mentioned in step by step way.
Please let me know if this can achieved by RMAN...

  • How to fix corrupted backup then proceed with restore? Or extract app databases from corrupted backup?

Deeply let down by Backup restore :-(
iPhone 3GS with iOS5.1 (the latest) started to behave abnormally. Made a full restore of iOS then tried to restore from backup only to discover message that my backup is corrupt or not compatible. Contacts were restored more or less OK but all applications data including personal financials (PocketMoney records) were lost.
Tried 2 times to run restore from backup but without success :-( Is there any chance to fix so-called corrupted backup file or at least to retrieve my app databases out of there?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not that I've heard of.  You can extract some of your data from a backup using iPhone Backup Extractor, but I'm not sure that includes app data (you could try contacting them to find out).  And even if you could, I don't know how you would sync it back to your phone.

  • Unable to move app icons from home page, on my iPad, to another.

It seems to only move apps when I hold it in landscape view. I've Just received the iPad back, after sending it off to apple to be fixed. It would open apps by itself, freeze and be generally unresponsive.

Try a reset and see if that helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what Apple might have repaired since they generally replace devices rather than repair them, but I would question them and see if they can help. They may have replaced your iPad with a "bad" device.

  • Using exp/imp to clone a database from Solaris to NT

    Hi All,
We have an 8.1.6 Oracle database in production under Sun Solaris.
We actually use this database to run Siebel CRM system.
We have a Windows NT server which we used as a QA system
    for this application.
We have a daily full export of our production database on the
Sun machine. Now my manager wants to import this production
dmp file into this Win NT database on a weekly basis.
The goal here is to maintain the state of this NT database
as much functional and close to the production one as possible.
I would appreciate your help on this.
I have some other general question:
in which case can the Oracle imp utility be run in the
    full=y mode ?
does this make any sense at all ?
since the Oracle import utility does not delete
any existing objects before it imports, these objects
should be deleted manually and that's what I do
with all Siebel users schemas; of course I do not
do this with SYS, SYSTEM and other special Oracle
users; question: are there any objects in these
special Oracle schemas that have to be carried over from
the source database to the target database to
make the rest of the schemas functional ?
Somehow I failed to find Oracle documentation on how
to use exp/imp to create a complete clone of an Oracle
    database.
Can direct path be used with full=y export/import mode ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Yuriy.

As an alternative to using daily/weekly exports and imports, what would probably be more effective here would be replication. The databases could synch on a nightly basis and updated tables and rows will be transferred from your OLTP system to your read-only system. More information can be found on replication from "Oracle8i DBA Handbook" by Kevin Loney and Marlene Therialt.
