Move databases AND upgrading to SQL 2012

Hi! I want to move my SCOM databases (DW and OM) from a SQL 2008R2 cluster to a SQL 2012 cluster. Is this possible, and how do I do it in the easiest way with as little downtime as possible?
Any tips og walkthroughs appreciated.

  • Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hello Every body,
Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
    Here is the current platform:
    OS Win 2008 64 bit
    JDK 1.4.2
    JBoss 3.2.5
    EJB 2.1
My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

In general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
    1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
    2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
    3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
    4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
    5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
    6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
    7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
    Hope this helps..

  • 2008 R2 upgrade to SQL 2012 validation error - No Features Selected

I need a work-around for a known bug.  Some features of Server 2008 R2 Enterprise install an instance of SQL Server.  I'm attempting to upgrade the in-place instance to SQL 2012 Express.  After selecting 'Upgrade', it returns this error:
    Upgrade to SQL Server 2012
There are validation errors on this page.  Click OK to close this dialog box.  Review errors at the bottom of the setup page, then provide valid parameters or click Help for more information.
There are no features selected for upgrade.
In researching, I find this is a known problem in which the hotfix is available in a cumulative update.  The 2419 build updates the released 2100 build.  My problem now is that applying the cumulative update requires that SQL 2012 already be installed.
What is the correct procedure for upgrading the in-place SQL instance to 2012 SQL Express?
Beware of unmoderated moderators in the Expression Web forums.

One of us is confused.... likely me.  The SQL currently installed is the built-in SQL of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.  It is not SQL Enterprise.  I understand it to be a limited variation called SSEE, SQL Server Embedded Edition.
I believe the installation of this variation can be triggered by installing IIS or WSUS.  The instance name is Microsoft##SSEE.
Nevertheless, there must be a proper way to install SQL 2012 Express, migrate, and uninstall the Windows Internal Database SQL 2005.  Where can I find the correct procedure for upgrading the in-place SQL instance to 2012 SQL Express?
    Hi backup,
According to your description, I recommend you install SQL Server 2012 Express directly. Before installing, you should note the
hardware and software requirements, for example, you need to download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5.
There is a process of installing SQL Server 2012 Express, you can review it.

  • DQS Client doesn't upgrade after SQL 2012 SP1 CU4

One of my clients just has the DQS client tool installed and not DQS Server.  After realizing he was trying to connect to DQS servers on a higher version he went and ran the CU4 update to get his DQS client in compliance.  After running the service

  • Use a SQL 2012 database server with Reporting Services 2008?

Hello, we have a SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services Standard server with the reporting databases running on a SQL Server 2008 Standard database server. I would like to upgrade the database server to SQL Server 2012 before I upgrade the reporting server.
Can I run SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services against a 2008-version database running on a SQL 2012 database server? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Nicole
    Thanks for your posting.
Are you asking if we can connect from SSRS 2008 r2 to a database sitting on SQL Server 2012.  Am I right?, please ignore me if I misunderstood your question. If that is your question
then I think you will be able to using BIDS 2008, I have created A database on SQL Server 2012 and I use that database table inside  my SSRS 2008 R2 dataset. I can even think that you can use a database of compatibility level of 2012(110) as well

  • How to upgrade SQL 2012 Clustering Enterprise Evaluation to SQL 2012 Clustering Standard Editon

    Dear All,
My environment configured 2 Servers for SQL 2012 Clustering Enterprise Evaluation with Active/Passive. Then I Would like to upgrade from SQL 2012 Clustering Enterprise Evaluation to SQL 2012 Clustering Standard Edition with Active/Passive
    on same 2 Servers.
I would like you help to share me the step how to upgrade from SQL 2012 Clustering Enterprise Evaluation to SQL 2012 Clustering Standard Edition.
I should upgrade on both Servers or just upgrade only one of them?
I should upgrade on Active node first or passive node first?
During upgrade, I should bring offline resource before upgrade?
I saw only step upgrade evaluation edition on standalone Server but can't find information for upgrade on Cluster environment.
Could you please help provide me the step for do this.

    Hello,
    As per this MS article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx
Upgrading from Evaluation Enterprise (a free edition) to any of the paid editions is supported for stand-alone installations, but is not supported for clustered installations.
Changing the edition of a SQL Server 2012 failover cluster is limited. The following scenarios are not supported for SQL Server 2012 failover clusters:
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise to SQL Server 2012 Developer, Standard, or Enterprise Evaluation.
SQL Server 2012 Developer to SQL Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise Evaluation.
SQL Server 2012 Standard to SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Evaluation.
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Evaluation to SQL Server 2012 Standard.
So i think upgrade to Standard edition is not possible on cluster.
What you can do is take full and transaction log backup of All databases.Backup your users and logins and jobs by script method.
Now destroy SQL server 2012 evaluation cluster and create new SQL server standard cluster.
Just FYI( not related to this): You just need to run edition upgrade on a single node, you can choose to run from either an active or passive node. After running, you need to cause a failover to happen. Once the failover happens, all of the nodes along with
the database engine will be updated.

  • DPM 2012 SP1 and SharePoint 2013 on a SQL 2012 AlwaysOn AG

I am trying to protect a new SharePoint Foundation 2013 farm with it's databases stored on an SQL 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Group.  I've run configureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection on my WFE and SharePoint shows up in DPM when I try to

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble understanding what I'm seeing in the writer output from the WFE server.  Specifically the machine names that the writer is reporting.
If you look in the wfewtiters.txt, What is the machine that ends in 02 ?  Is that a physical machine or an alias ?

  • Upgrading SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2012 SP1

    Hi everyone,
We are testing some upgrades in a lab environment. We have upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2 and are now looking at upgrading to SQL 2012 SP1 from SQL 2008 R2. Both SCCM and SQL are on one server. (The next step is to split SCCM and SQL but that's another topic)
The question we are asking is, what should be our process for the upgrade? Do we need to stop SCCM services before doing the SQL upgrade? If, so, which ones?

    Hi,
You need to stop all Configuration Manager services at the site.
For the process of the upgrade, you could check the following document.

Thanks Garth - so if I install 2008 BIDS on my W7 workstation then I will be able to connect to the CM2012/SQL 2012 database?

  • MOSS 2007 native mode on SQL 2012 with compatibility mode?

We are on MOSS 2007 SP 3 64-bit (just native, it is not SSRS integration mode) running on SQL 2008 R2 SP2 64-bit. Can the databases move to SQL 2012 with compatibility mode?

    Hi,
As far as I know, SQL 2012 is not listed as compatible with SharePoint 2007 on the

  • SQL 2012 support for ADFS 2.0

We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 Enterprise from SQL 2008. Since that happened we are now seeing errors when trying to create Relying Party Trusts in our ADFS 2.0 environment.
    The error is as follows:
An error occurred during an attempt to access the AD FS configuration database. Error message: Exception of type 'Microsoft.IdentityServer.PolicyModel.Client.StorageOperationException' was thrown.
    That brings 3 specific questions:
    1. Does ADFS 2.0 support SQL 2012 as a backend?
    2. Can we move the AD FS configuration database back to WID?
    3. If the answer to question 2 is yes, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
Just a Network Administrator in a Developers World

    Hi Boomer,
There is no official document published about incompatibilities between AD FS 2.0 and SQL 2012. Though many people have issues about this combination, please see this thread below:
    ADFS 2.0 + SQL 2012
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/6842274e-dca6-423d-9ddb-f5949fa83076/adfs-20-sql-2012?forum=Geneva
In the meantime, SQL Server 2012 is supported with AD FS 2.1 for sure, you can try to upgrade AD FS 2.0 to AD FS 2.1 if the issue persists.
In addition, I couldn’t find any resource about migrating AD FS configuration database from SQL to WID, only the other way around.
