Move Table on Ora 9.2 from tablespace to another (dictionary managed)

Hello,
is it possible to move tables with brtools from dictionary managed tablespace to another dictionary managed tablespace on Oracle 9.2 ?

Hello Axel,
this is a case where the BRSPACE error is not nice, because you have no easy chance to move this one table to a LMTS tablespace. In this case I would propose you to execute ALTER TABLE MOVE directly on Oracle side:
ALTER TABLE <table_name> MOVE TABLESPACE <target_tablespace>;
Afterwards all indexes of the table have to be rebuilt in order to validate them again:
ALTER INDEX <index_name> REBUILD ONLINE;
Kind regards

  • Move tables (some with LONG datatypes) across tablespaces in Oracle 9i

    I have a 14GB tablespace which about 3,000 tables (and only tables) in. Only 2.6GB is used so I would like to resize the tablespace to about 3GB initially.
    I moved the tables with "alter table <owner>.<tablename> move tablespace <tablespace>" and this worked for most of the tables but failed on some with this kind of error:
    alter table IFSAPP.COMMAND_SYS_BUFFER_TAB move tablespace IFSAPP_DATA_TEMP
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00997: illegal use of LONG datatypeI then moved the other tables back to the original a little frustrated.
    Further reading suggested exporting and importing the tables is the way to go.
    I prefer the alter table because Oracle manages the lock whilst it moves. If I export and import, the table could change in between, potentially ending with me importing an old copy, couldn't it? [It seems neigh on impossible to guarantee an available window to do much!]
    So I though I could you the alter table move for ALL tables and those that are left, use export/import, to minimise the risk.
    How should I proceed?
    1) Create TEMP_TABLESPACE as 3GB
    2) "alter table ... move tablespace ..." for all tables in ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE to TEMP_TABLESPACE
    3) For the remaining tables, individually:
    a) lock table (not sure how)
    b) export table: exp user/pass tables=tablename file=exp.dmp rows=yes
    c) drop table
    d) create table in TEMP_TABLESPACE*
    e) import table: imp user/pass tables=tablename
    * this means I need to know how to re-create the table. It also means views and indexes and packages are going to become invalid.
    4) drop tablespace ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE
    5) Create ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE as 3GB
    6) "alter table ... move tablespace ..." for all tables in TEMP_TABLESPACE to ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE
    7) For the remaining tables, individually:
    a) lock table (not sure how)
    b) export table: exp user/pass tables=tablename file=exp.dmp rows=yes
    c) drop table
    d) create table in ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE
    e) import table: imp user/pass tables=tablename
    This seems high risk and messy.
    Has anyone advice or tips to make it simpler?
    As it stands I am considering leaving alone, the risks worry me!
    Thanks

    Interesting idea.. so this would create a temporary table in the temporary tablespace.
    Rather than set the default tablespace, can I merely add the tablespace clause?
    COPY FROM user/password@database CREATE TmpTblName TABLESPACE TmpTablespace USING SELECT
    * FROM Table_name;
    Either way - can you confirm for each table, I would need to:
    COPY FROM user/password@database CREATE TmpTblName TABLESPACE temp_tablespace USING SELECT * FROM Table_name;
    At this point all indexes for these will be invalid.
    Drop tablespace ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE
    Create ORIGINAL_TABLESPACE as 3GB
    COPY FROM user/password@database CREATE TblName TABLESPACE original_tablespace USING SELECT * FROM TmpTable_name;
    rebuild any indexes which are unusable.
    recompile any invalid objects

  • Results table difference when running query from Alert compared to Query Manager

    Hello,
    I have following query - Aim is to create alert to tell employee which customers to make visit to in next 4 weeks
    SELECT DISTINCT T1.CardName, T1.U_VisitDue, T1.U_VisitReason, T1.U_Priority, T1.U_Region as 'Area', T1.U_VNotes
    FROM dbo.OCRD T1
    WHERE DateDiff(d,T1.U_VisitDue, GETDATE()) <29
    Group BY T1.CardName, T1.U_VNotes, T1.U_VisitDue, T1.U_VisitReason, T1.U_Priority, T1.U_Region
    FOR BROWSE
    My problem is that when I run query through alert the field U_VNotes is displayed differently.
    Running the query from Query Manager the contents of this field appear in one field of the result table.
    Running the query via Alery the content of this field is split into several fields in results table according to 'new line' in field entry.
    This makes the results table from the Query less 'user-friendly' because if you want to sort the table by 'Date' column for example it makes a mess of the table because of the extra rows.
    I want results table to look like top version in picture below ... but i want to run from alert.
    Is this possible?
    How can I achieve it?
    Thanks for any assistance

  • Move table to new tablespace

    How can we move table with long col to new tablespace(LMT) from DMT?

    Well, converting LONGs to LOBs is always "painful" :-)
    But it is doable, however, the solution depends upon the version of the database.
    There are several metalink notes coverting this matter:
    Note 137160.1 Oracle 9i PLSQL LONG-TO-LOB API For Easier LONG to LOB Migration
    Note 282464.1 How to convert LONG to a CLOB
    However here is one that I used recently and it needs one 10g instance as a staging site. (I don't know if this approach has been documented on Metalink. It worked for me, it might work for you as well, but you should test it first).
    My production database was 8i and it contained a table with LONG column. The requirement was to convert this column to CLOB.
    I exported the table and imported it in 10g database.
    Once in 10g I used ALTER TABLE tablename MODIFY longcolumn CLOB; which worked perfectly fine.
    Finally I exported the table with CLOB column from the 10g database and imported it back in 8i database.
    example:
    SQL> create table t
      2  (c1 long);
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into t values ('foo');
    1 row created.
    SQL> desc t
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    C1                                                 LONG
    SQL> alter table t
      2  modify c1 clob;
    Table altered.
    SQL> desc t
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    C1                                                 CLOB
    SQL> select c1 from t;
    C1
    foo

  • Is it possible to rename dictionary managed tablespace in oracle 10g?

    Hi,
    Assume my system tablespace is dictionary managed in oracle 10g and one of my permanent tablespace is dictionary managed.
    Pls let me know that permanent dictionary managed tablespace can be renamed or not using rename tablespace command or only locally managed tablespaces can be renamed?
    thanks,
    DB

    Hi Guys,
    thanks for the replies.
    As suggested, i created a database with dictionary managed system tablespace and users tablespace .
    I was able to rename users tablespace to users_test.
    Eventhough dictionary managed tablespace is deprecated in oracle 10g, it will be better if they just add a line in the 10gR2 documentation under renaming tablespaces section that dictionary managed tablespaces also can be renamed.
    SQL> alter tablespace users rename to users_test;
    Tablespace altered.
    SQL> select tablespace_name,extent_management from dba_tablespaces;
    TABLESPACE_NAME EXTENT_MAN
    SYSTEM DICTIONARY
    UNDOTBS1 LOCAL
    SYSAUX LOCAL
    TEMP LOCAL
    USERS_TEST DICTIONARY
    SQL> select * from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NUMBER INSTANCE_NAME HOST_NAME VERSION
    1 dictest XXXXXX 10.2.0.1.0

  • Couldn't create dictionary managed tablespace

    In Oracle9i release 2 I couldn't create tablespace of type dictionary managed
    is there someway to do it???

    This is just one of the RESTRICTIONS of Having a Locally Managed SYSTEM Tablespace. Dictionary managed tablespaces can not be created in a database with a locally managed SYSTEM tablespace.

  • ORA-01653: unable to extend table SYS.ARGUMENT$ by 13 in tablespace SYSTEM

    I have created new database manually.
    when I am @?/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql putting this sql to run.
    for sometime it says created, granted. but after some part it give me the error.
    ORA-01653: unable to extend table SYS.ARGUMENT$ by 13 in tablespace SYSTEM
    Please help me on this.
    Thank you in advance.

    Your query does not provide SYSTEM tablespace size. It provides list of tablespaces. And it can't be a complete list since I do not see UNDO and TEMP tablespaces. In any case, based on the output you did not create any user tablespaces, so all tables you are creating went to SYSTEM tablespace and eventually you ran out of space. You need to create user tablespaces if you do not have any. You need to change non-system users and set default tablespace to non-system tablespaces. Even if you do have non-system tablespaces, tables will be created in user default tablespace unless you explicitly specify one. You need to move existing user tables/indexes to non-system tablespaces.
    SY.
    P.S. In order to get SYSTEM tablespace size you need to run:
    select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 tablespace_size_in_mb
    from dba_data_files
    where tablespace_name = 'SYSTEM';

  • Transport table from system tablespace to another tablespace

    hi there,
    how can we transport a table from system tablespace to another tablespace(example users tablespace)?

    Assuming you are not trying to move any data dictionary tables.
    Use alter table to move it,
    ALTER TABLE my_table MOVE TABLESPACE USERS;
    Rebuild index after move.
    This will work on Oracle 9i and above.
