Movies & TV shows Preview works but Play doesn't
anyone having this problem?
latest SW installed on Apple TV
trying to watch previously purchased movies or tv shows
Clicking on Play -> goes to 'loading" screen -> and then returns back after 2 seconds goes back to the movie or episode starting screen
when clicking on Preview -> goes on "loading" and then shows the Preview
after a couple of restarts I completely wiped the Apple TV to its original factory settings with latest SW update
Apple TV then worked for 1 evening
2nd evening back to the same above problem
Anyone with some wisdom here?

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
Also check your payment details, make sure your details are exactly how they appear on your credit card statement, you might also try changing some of those details, saving them and changing them back again.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.
At this point in time, I’m wondering if this could be related to (but not restricted to) the new feature that allows others to come into your home and use your Apple TV to download and play their content on your Apple TV without logging into their account on your Apple TV. The Terms of Use for iTunes Store content have always been to require you to only purchase and play the content from the store in the location where you live and to use a credit card registered in that location. Previously Apple seem to have been somewhat lenient on enforcing such restrictions, perhaps now they are not. However I don’t really have any evidence to support this suggestion, except that changes made to accounts in these areas do appear to be helping many.
If you are successful in resolving your problem, perhaps you would let us know exactly which action resolved the problem for you. If you are having this problem to begin with, can you also tell us your location.

Handling events in subvis - think this should work but it doesn't.
In part of a large project I need to handle key down events, but elsewhere I need to handle them differently and want to be able to dynamically register and unregister them in each location. I also want to be able to put one of the event handlers in a subvi. To quote the Help system, "Dynamically Registering Events: With dynamic registration, you can handle events in a subVI rather than only in the VI where the events are generated."
ViThatHandlesEvents.vi handles key down events. It uses dynamic event registration to demonstrate that it works (though in this simple example it isn't necessary).
ViContainingSubviThatHandlesEvents registers key down events and passes this to KeyDnEventHndlrSubVI. I thought it would work but it doesn't.

As you noted, this will have the event structure respond to keypresses whenever the parent VI is active. My iMac seems to have frozen during the update- how long should I expect the update to take? The 'installing software update' bar is still showing itself working but has been stuck in the same position for over an hour. Any thoughts?
Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery. -

Movie not showing in ATV but is showing in itunes
i have my appletv set to stream only (no syncing).
i have just added a movie to itunes and it showing all ok in itunes, however it is not showing up on ATV.
how long should it take for it to appear in the movies list in ATV? or should it be instant?
the itunes server is running on a windows PC.Highlite the video in itunes and from the advanced menu choose "convert selection for tv"
You might also consider 'convert selection for iPod' which will give you a lower quality video but save you some space. You actually shouldn't notice much, if any, loss in quality by doing this since your source video is well below the quality of the iPod setting in any case.

A self contained movie is just an ordinary movie file, the other option is a referenced file which is very small, it doesn't contain the movie itself, just instructions about your editing choices and a pointer to the original movie file itself. When QT plays a reference file it actually plays a self contained movie somewhere else, but applies your editing instructions to it on the fly, so to speak.

my ipod touch 4th g is running ios 6.0.1 but is very glitchy. there is no sound and if I plug in earphones it freezes up. camera does work but freezes when i try to use Camcorder. App store was acting up but after reseting it multiple times it is working again. When I turn it off with the slidder it reboots after one minute. It is also hard to put into dfu mode and take back out holding consecutive buttons doesn't work....Was stuck in recovery mode for quite awhile till I used a program to kick it out. I did find youtube vidio that showed how to restore audio by deleating a file but of course this takes a little work and don't know if it would work with this ios. Was just wondering what I can try now. Would realy like sound. not so worried about camcorder. Did check settings and no apps are blocked.

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Action works, but droplet doesn't-CS4
Create a droplet that will reduce quality of jpg image to reduce file size for e-mailing:
I had created actions and droplets in Photoshop 7 & CS2 without problems.
Using Photoshop CS4 11.0
Folders:
D:\Storage\convert
Source Dir D:\Storage\convert\jpg2
Output Dir D:\Storage\convert\raw2
Create a set called custom in the actions palette, by clicking on the create set icon on the bottom.
Select the set.
Click on the create action icon on the bottom.
In the next dialogue, enter the name of the action: reduce image to medium quality
Set: custom. Use the rest of the defaults. Click record.
File, Save as, use the default folder and file name. Click save
In the image quality window, select baseline optimized, 5-medium., ok
In the actions palette, click the stop recording icon. Your action is created!!
Create the droplet:
File, automation, create droplet
Save droplet in: click choose
Enter the path: D:\Storage\convert
Filename: reduce image to medium quality.exe
Play:
Set: custom
Action: the one you just created – reduce image to medium quality
Check suppress color profile warnings
Destination: select folder
Click choose:
Select the correct path to save files in – eg D:\Storage\convert\raw2
Check Override Actions “Save As” commands
File naming
Document name + extension
Starting serial #: 1 (default)
Compatibility: Windows (default)
Errors: Stop for errors
Click OK
Note: the source folder is not important, since it is not selected anywhere!! Put it in convert for convenience.
To execute the droplet:
Have the version of Photoshop running that you created the action for ie CS2.
Copy the files to be acted on into the source folder eg (D:\Storage\convert\jpg2). Make sure it and the destination folder is empty before starting!!
Drag the source folder on top of the droplet
It will load one file at a time in Photoshop and do the required action. It will save one file at a time into the jpg images folder.
My action works but my droplet doesn’t. Windows Vista SP2 says the droplet has stopped working. If I change the droplet to create a log file, It doesn’t create the log file either. I checked what’s in the patch for CS4 11.0.2, I don’t see anything that fixes this problem.Check the IP Address on a Computer :

If not do the browser settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your Wireless Connection...

Airport Express works, but MacBook doesn't when connected directly to Modem
I have an interesting problem. I have Verizon DSL. Airport Express works, but Linksys and Netgear wifi routers don't work. Further more, if I disconnect the wifi router and directly connect a MacBook or a Windows notebook they don't work. These devices work if I enter a static IP address though. It is DHCP that doesn't work.
I have been using Verizon DSL for several years, and most recently I was using a Netgear wifi router. A few days ago it lost internet connection. Thinking that the Netgear broke, I bought a new Linksys WRT54GL to replace it. But it didn't work either. I happened to have an Airport Express lying around, so I connected that and surprisingly it worked! Then I wrote down the IP address shown by Airport Utility and typed that IP into Netgear as a static IP address and it worked too. If I remove all wifi equipment and connect a Windows PC or a MacBook directly to the DSL modem then neither works. (Note: my DSL modem doesn't use PPPoE it uses DHCP.)
So it seems that something changed with Verizon's DHCP such that only Airport Express can work. Contacting Verizon support was useless. What is so magical about Airport Express? I can't use Airport Express permanently because I have 3 wired computers to connect also, and Airport Express have ethernet ports. Airport Extreme does, so I am wondering if I should get one of those. Will the magic of Airport Express work in Extreme also?

It sounds like Verizon is keying on the MAC address of the device connected to its modem ... so either they require that you register a MAC address with them or there is a problem with the modem in that it is retaining it even though you change the device connected.
If you haven't already, be sure to perform a complete power recycle when changing out network equipment. The following should be done each time:
o Power-down, the modem, router, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical. If the modem has a backup battery, it should be removed and replaced to make sure that any stored configuration information is erased.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the router; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-up the computer(s). -

Laptops show great signal but internet doesn't work
My desktop and several laptops within my family all show excellent internet signals (5 bars); however, two of our laptops connect to the internet but their browsers say we are not connected to the internet (or a "connection is limited"). Two other laptops work fine. I do not think it is a bandwidth issue and I think there is enough room because I have tried connecting with the two bad laptops when all other devices are turned off.
Could my operating system have anything to do with it? I have leopard right now and am considering upgrading to snow leopard.

First think to check it to see what IP address it has picked up, if it's 192.x.x.x then fine, if 196.x.x.x the it hasn't got it's self configured, presuming you are using DHCP from the router? -
Playlists show as blank - but play normally
iTunes is showing all the playlists, but none of the actual songs are showing, regardless of which view (list, grid, cover flow) is selected. However, the bottom of the window does show the right amount of music (count and size) and if you click play, the right songs play from the selected playlist.
Tried moving everything from the Music:iTunes folder to a safe spot and letting iTunes create a new library and then reimported the music and the same thing happens. Plays but does not show.
What am I missing?Just as another test, try loading a movie/video DVD and see if it
mounts and shows up properly.
If it doesn't, then there is a good chance the drive is dead or if you
are lucky, just dirty optics that need cleaning. -

I've followed both the wiki regarding mysql installation, LAMP installation etc. Added http group and user, configured apache and php. When I run a test file with phpinfo() inside, everything works. Update - I've found out that there's nothing wrong with the server. It's something wrong with CI, thus this would make a CI-specific topic. Please delete the topic.
Update 2 and solved - A fresh installation of PHP has the mysql module commented out. Uncomment it in php.ini - and it works Cheers!

I have a somewhat strange problem, that I have been trying to troubleshoot for some time, and still cannot figure out, and was looking to get some advice.
Anyways, I have a WRT160N Linksys Router, that works fine wirelessly in non-secure and WEP security modes, but I cannot get it working correctly in either WPA or WPA2 security modes.
The setup of my computer in my apartment means at the moment I cannot use a wired connection to do the inital setup of my router...everything has to be done wirelessly. So after a fresh factory-reset of my router, I go into the Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center, set up a new wireless connection, punch in the Router PIN, and initally setup my connection with no security. It connects to the internet just fine. From there, I go into my router settings vis'-a-vis' 192.168.1.1, and change the wireless security from disabled, to WEP, put in a password, and apply the settings. I then alter my network profile within the Network and Sharing Center for my wireless network and make sure that its settings match my router's settings. Once again, everything works great and internet performance is good.
However, when I instead change my router's security to WPA or WPA2 using the above method, instead of WEP, I cannot get it working correctly. I change my network profile to match my router's WPA/WPA2 setting, but I either get an ip error, or it won't let me connect to my network, giving me the following error message...."The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network", even though I am certain the settings on my router match the settings I am inputing into the Windows Network and Sharing Center. There was one time where I was actually able to get it work in WPA and I was browsing the internet just fine...and my network details in my connection list showed my network was WPA2-PSK, but after a few minutes, the connection disconnected, and I got the 'The settings saved do my match' error message again.
Are there any special steps I have to take to delete old settings or some special configuration I have to do within Windows to get it to talk to my router correctly when I enable WPA or WPA2? It seems odd to me that everything works fine in no security or WEP, but WPA/WPA2 seem flaky.
Any information would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thanks!First of all do not do any settings on your Router from the wireless computer...it can damage your router.
Connect any computer to your Router and do the folowing settings...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
NOTE** : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters and it is case sensitive ...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
