Difference bet Moving Avg Price & Std Price...
Material price in Material master is represented by Material price Indicator, The main purpose of material price is to valuated the material stock for financial transaction in company. There are two procedures available in the standard system:
Valuation at standard price : The price is decided by the organization (Costing / Finance / Purchasing / Marketing dept) which is fixed for material, it will not be changed by any inventory or financial transaction, but you can change it with special price change procedure.
This std price is represented with price indicator S
Valuation using a standard price has the following features:
- All inventory postings are carried out at the standard price
- Variances are posted to price difference accounts
- Variances are updated
- Price changes can be monitored
Valuation at moving average price or (if the material ledger has been activated) periodic unit price : This price is not decided by any organization (but in come case it will decide i.e. to upload the initial stock) but it will automatically updated by the Invnetory transactions (i.e. Goods receipt, Invoice receipt) or financial transaction (Debit/credit material). It will keep changes automatically when there is price difference.
This MAP is represented with price indicator V
Valuation using a moving average price results in the following:
- Goods receipts are posted at the goods receipt value.
- The price in the material master is adjusted to the delivered price.
- Price differences occur only in exceptional circumstances.
- Manual price changes are usually unnecessary. However, they are possible.
Actually why we are entering the Std or MAP in Material master..
We are maintaining material price for material stock valuation and inventory transaction valuation.
What is the Impact in PO...
The material price does not have impact on PO, but definately it has impact on inventory transactions i.e. GR, GI, IR debit/credit material.

Standard price are used for products that do not fluctuated frequently. It is usually used for finished or semi finished products.
Moving average price are used mainly for raw materials that are purchased externally. The advantage of using moving average price for your raw materials is that your inventory costs will always reflect the current market cost.
SAP strongly recommends that you do not select price control V for semi-finished products and finished products, because doing so will very easily cause the calculation of unrealistic valuation prices. SAP recommends:
Price control V for raw materials and trading goods; price control S for semi-finished products and products
We recommend that you only use price control V for materials procured
externally. Materials produced in-house should be subject to a
standard price control.
Generally all raw materials (ROH), spare parts (ERSA), traded goods (HAWA) etc. are assigned as moving average price (MAP) because of the accounting practice of accurately valuating the inventory of such materials. These materials are subject to the purchase price fluctuations on a regular basis.
The semi-finished goods (HALB) and finished products (FERT) are valuated with standard price because of the product costing angle. If these were to be MAP controlled, then finished/semi-finished product valuation would fluctuate due to data entry errors during backflushing of material and labour, production inefficiencies (higher cost) or efficiencies (lower cost). This is not a standard accounting and costing practice
For Split valuated material it is recommended to use Moving average price

Moving Average price, Std price and FIFO

Hi folks,
It seems our client wants to use FIFO valuation for its items rather than Moving Average because FIFO gives them an actual price for their Finished Goods (the client does not have any manufacturing).
I beleive the question the client wants answered is: Can they can use the FIFO valuation within COPA-AB (account based) instead of costing based.
The client manager seems extremely sure that this can be done in COPA. Can it be done? If so, how would we go about it? My understanding is that COPA only captures the cost with the revenue. It captures the cost the moment you ship a product.
I think CO-PC handles this, however I think you need PP implemented as well and the client is not implementing PP at this time. I could also be totally wrong about all of this.
Hopefully this all makes sense. Unfortunately I cannot upload an example of what I mean.

You are absolutely correct.
COPA is used for reporting cost & revenues for internal use. It has nothing do with inventory valuation.
It is product costing which is used for material valuation in manufacturing scenario. As you mentioned, that products are not manufactured. there is no need to implement PP & product costing.
In SAP material is valuated either at moving average price or standard price a sper price control in material master. However, there are functionality in SAP where materials can be re valuated at period end for legal reporting. Explore the functionality in MM -> balance sheet valuation (do not remember the exact path). In this materials can be re-valuated as per various principles or can be done via user exits.

Moving Average Price for Batch Maintenance

Hi Experts,
      I've created material of which stock is maintain in batch (Valuation category = X & Price Control = V).
    Due to batch wise stock, system calculates the moving average price for different batches.
    Can we calculate moving average price at plant level inspite of maintaining material batch wise?
   Is there any other way by defining multiple storage bins for that material so that I can see the stock value differently with single moving average price value?

In MM03, you get the overall MAP for all batches of the material at plant level without mentioning valuation type in org. level. When specific valuation type is given, you can see its MAP / std price.

Moving average price has become Zero in Material Master

Hi,
Can you please help us , if you have any ...this kind of situation in your projects.
Scenerio:
We are using Workflow mechanism for creation material in Master data client
01. After creation of Material, it will go for approval (to six departments in SAP Itself ) and after their approvals,it will be moved to "Book of Records"( to Transactional client)
02.If the requester is submit the Material for approvals, it will create IDOC and will be moved to "Book of Records"( to Transactional client).
03.If any error is there in the Material views, IDOC will be failed in Outbond system( Transactional client)
in this case.We use BD10 to move the changes manually.
Problem is,
01.We moved manually 10 materials on 29/10/2008 through BD10 to Transactional client .in this case, we observed that, the moving average price(VERPR) ,Commercial price 2 (BWPH1),and Moving average price (if the price control is S) (SALKV) has become Zero.
Why ?
Why this 3 fields become Zero ?
Is there any link between these fields and How ?
Note: Price control "S" is maintained to the above all the materials.
Can any body help us to find out the reason ?
*What is the solution to find the Moving average price now and to update as on date ?
Is there any field , we can see the Moving average price in backend ?*

Normally when you create a new material, you need to provide the price manually for the first time. Now since you said your price control is "S". Otherwise your IDoc should have a price for the Standard price when it is "S" and Moving Average price when it is "V".
It can be ZERO if you intend to create and release a std cost esatimte (For internally produced materials).

Moving average price of subcontracted material not picked for Cost estimation

I have the below scenario:
Finshed Product A has components B, C.
C is a subcontacted material and it has its own BOM with components D & E.
We are maintaining moving average price for the subcontracted material C, (because the subcontracter is adding X & Y in addtion to the components D and E, which are sent from us).
In the mateial maste of C, Procurement type is F and Spl. procurement type 30 are maintained.
When i do costing for the Finished product A, moving average price of C is not picked up (where as system calculates the std cost for C by adding the values of D & E and purchase info record price).
Is there any way to Calculate Price of A by using the mvg avg price of C.
I maintained the below valuation variant settings.
If i remove the spl. procurement type 30 in the material master of C, it picks up the mvg. avg price. but it affects the MRP planning of items D & E.
Please advice.

1. if we maintain spl. procureent key 30, system calculates standard cost based on raw material and service charges.
2. If we don't maintain spl. proc key, it considers the material as purchased and picks the mvg avg price from material.
But, is there any way to pick the moving avg price from material master eventhough i maintained the spl. procurement type 30?

Moving average price in Semifinished material.

Dear All,
Our client wants to go for moving average price in case of semifinished material, which is supposed to be normally standard price. The problem is the MAP is not getting updated after the GR against the production order. What settings I need to check in cusomization from PP point of view to solve this problem. Ideally the summation of cost of raw materials has to be the cost of semifinished material.
did the settlement and the MAP got updated. There are few questions I want to ask u are?
1. What MAP should I keep when I create the material for the first time?
2. What the base to calculate the target cost in production order? Currently the target cost is zero for that the varience is hugh which will be going to affect the MAP in a big manner after setllement? What should I do in that case?

but some company are useing MAP so i think the client want MAP then also it will not create any problem but this is laways FICO decision

while goods movement system update G/L AC automatically the price used for updating the GL is either std or MAP depending on which is maintain in material master
your MAP will get updated only after settlement of Production order If your production is make to order in that case costing is against Sales order & no issue of settlemnt of Production order so MAP will not be updated in MTO
which price you should maintan in material master & target cost & variance
initally u upload master data with price 1 After that u take costestimate run & realse the price that will be std price Now you can see the varinace along
after realsing the cost estimate you can chane MAP in mr21/22
You can maintain both the prices in material master but while GL AC updating system check the price control & then pick price
but it is advisable to have STD PRICE

There will not any big problem if your client insists upon MAP for the material instead of your suggestio for having S as per std. SAP suggestions. There will not be any change in material price during confirmation if you have V indicator but if you have S as indicator there will be change in price due to costing and settlement. It is not that system will not do anything for the materials having V indicator, check the field value for Standard price , it gets updated. Your costing calculation completely depends uopn the settings that has been customised in OPN2 i.e the settings available for valuation. You cancompletely control all these.
Pirce for your semifinished should include the inputs to it and any other parameters which you would like to add. You can always change the price manually with MR21 if you have Zero stock.

Moving Average Price get updated

Hi MM Gurus,
Please advise why the moving average price is populated when a material is a Standard Cost price control and the standard cost is updated on the Material Master.
Having a Standard cost and a Moving average price on one material is confusing the Business.

If the material price control is "Standard Price " , even then the moving average price will be calculated by the system .
This is purely for statistical purpose , & gives a fair idea about deviation of Std price from the MAP.
Ideally speaking , std price shud be always close to MAP.

I have a concern, if its possible to return to vendor with the current moving average price as I know that returning with movement type 122 is not applicable with such a case , so please advice with an OSS note if applicable

Why you MAP price to be update during 122 vendor returns?
When returns are processed with same value as it was with 101 movement type.
It cannot be same as MAP price of material.
MAP is update based on the average movements of material with quantity and value.
In std you cannot update MAP price of material during vendor returns and its not suggested.

Finished Goods at Moving average Price.

In my company FG maintained at Moving average price, during the Go-live they fed the value manually in material master of FG.
Now at the time of production conformation system considering BOM for consumption, but for cost of production system just taking the value fed in FG material master.
Please explain what is the impact if i maintain my FG at moving average, whether we can change that to standard price.
Please explain me briefly.

Hi,
Ideally Raw Material, packing material should be maintained on Mvg Avg Price for your CO-PC (product Costing). Finished Goods / Semifinished goods should be maintained on Standard price only.
Actually once you maintain the same on Std price, So after your costing run the system will pick Std. price of that FG / SFG based following :
1. price of RM / PM from material components defined in BOM
2.Activity prices defined in KP26
3. Based on routing / master recipe, system will calculate activity defined for your resource / work center
4. Overheads from costing sheet
So, in Std. price of your FG / SFG, system will give all these details. While you go for your process Order / Production order, system will book actual cost of FG / SFG on production order. So, at month end when you run variance cycle, system will also give you variance between plan and actual.

Copy Standard Cost to Moving Average Price

Dear All,
We are maintaining the materials with price control as Standard Price and moving average price is updated and used only for statistical purpose.
I have a requirement of copying the standard price to moving average price field just after the standard costs have been released.
We have used CK40N to complete the calculation and release of standard costs.
Please let me know which SAP standard transaction can be used for the purpose.

Whats the need to copy std price to moving price?
I dont think there is any such t code to copy it.. But a weird work around is, if u r on ECC 6.0, you can change the price control from S to V and again V to S.. In this process, your price will get copied from S to V
However, not a recommended way of doing... If you do, you shud do this at a shot and blocking all others users

VMI and moving average price

Dear all
Please help us.
We will use moving average price as stock evaluation.
Also, we manage all inventory is VMI stock.
Our business process is the following procedure.
1. We will increase consignment stock (VMI) without reference to purchase order.
2. We will input sales order and allocate it to VMI stock.
3. We will post goods issue, movement type 601-K.
As you know, accounting documents post GR/IR at this time. Unfortunately, SAP does not calculate moving average price (MAP) in material master. ie. moving average price is zero.
We would like to calculate moving average price because almost stock is VMI.
How do you customize SAP?

You have to add one more step to handle this scenario as per my knowledge
which is before you issue the stock using 601 K you have to take the stock in you own inventory and than issue using movement type 601 not 601 k.
As per the std SAP the 601 K M type will never update the value because that's not are stock

Mpving average price:
Qty (new) = Qty (old) + Qty (receipt)
Value (new) = Value (old) + Qty (receipt) * Price (receipt) / Price Unit (receipt)
Price (new) = Value (new) / Qty (new) * Price unit (mtl master)

Changes to moving average price

Dear All,
I need to have a report showing Changes to moving average price for multiple material masters. Please suggest me if there is any standard way of getting it. Or from some tables i can take values.

Hi,
I think there is no std report to find out the MAP of the material.But however you can find the map using MBEW table for that material at that instance. Also you may try to use MDEWH to know the MAP for any period (like previous periods).The downlosd may give you some picture about MAP changes.
