Moving business components to other packages

We have a bc4j/jclient application which needs to be "cleaned up" a bit. There are lots of Entity Objects, View Objects, Associations and View Links which should be packaged in a better way. Unfortunately, there's is no function within JDeveloper to move business components to other packages.
Deleting the old objects and creating the same in the destination package would be a long procedure with the possibility of getting many errors. Copying the sources (.java and .xml) to a the new packages and replacing only the package statements won't work, I suppose, because of the several dependencies (move VOs from one source package to two destination packages, e.g.).
Could someone tell me the best way to do that?
Best regards,
Torsten.

There is no support for package renaming in JDeveloper (that I know of). My approach would be search and replace the source and change the place where the package name is mentioned to the new name. As you indicated you'll have to be careful to not do this globally since some reference to viewobjects may be moving to separate packages. You should look at the sources to determine whether or not global search and replace would be possible.
One other point is that the <package>.xml file contains the list of all the components in that package. You'll need to keep that in sync as well.

  • Default Subpackage Names for Business Components (11g); Bug?

    Does anyone know how to enable the ability to specify the default packages under Tools -> Default Project Properties ->Business Components -> Packages?
    Mine are all greyed out.
    Also, even when I have the bare minimum of an ADF model project, before even checking "Initialize Project for Business Components", the defalt packages are greyed out.
    Further, once I do check "Initialize Project for Business Components", the section for Default Subpackage Names is complete gone.
    I want to be able to specifiy the subpackages, so that when I regenerate entities etc. from tables the components go to the right packages.
    Thanks for any help.

    This seems like a bug to me. If you select Initialize Project for Business Components, everything is enabled. And stays that way even after you open a different application.
    But , You can set these values under Tools - Preferences - Business Components - Packages. This works nicely. Once you set these, create a new application and things will be fine. If you have existing application, it may require some xml file (.jpr) manipulation. That seems to be a nicer approach. I don't know what is the purpose of Default Project Properties, when you can set everything by Tools - Preferences.

  • Business Components does not appear under samplelib.server

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.5 Build 1437. In the toolbox.jws, I want to see the properties of the VO, VL in oracle.apps.fnd.framework.toolbox.samplelib.server.
    If I switch to category view, I am able to see the source files under the package, in the SOURCES section. But under the Business Components section, I am unable to view the business components for the package.
    Any idea how to make them visible ?
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Hi,
    Network discovery requires that the DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services are started, you may check this on both sides to make sure they are started.

  • Can not see the menu of New Business Components Package in jdeveloper

    I am just follow the developer guide.
    and when I create the Business Components Package, the guide said that
    ========================================
    In the JDeveloper Navigator, select the OA Project where you want to create your package.
    From the main menu, choose File > New to open the New Object Gallery.
    In the Categories tree, expand the Business Tier node, and select Business Components (BC4J).
    In the Items list, select Business Components Package to open the Business Components Package Wizard. You can also right-click on the OA Project and select New Business Components Package to navigate directly to the Business Components Package Wizard.
    =====================================
    In fact I can not see the menu about Business Components (BC4J) in the File/new/buisness tier/Business Components (BC4J).
    I can only see the File/new/buisness tier/ADF Business Components.
    And can not find the "Business Components Package" under ADF Business Components either.
    I am using the JDev Extension for OA (p5856648_R12_GENERIC.zip) and EBS 12.0.0.
    And I create an OA Workspace and OA Project.
    can anyone help?

  • How to create "Business Components Package" in the Jdeveloper ?

    Hi,
    I installed and set up "Patch 7523554 10G Jdeveloper With OA Extension ARU for R12 RUP6"
    I have ran out the test_fwktutorial.jsp and test_fwklabsolutions.jsp.
    All links work properly on these pages.
    I created HelloWorld page from "Oracle Application Framework Toolbox Tutorials".
    Its works properly too.
    Then I started to create "Search Page".
    I created "Business Component project" in the toolbox.jws.
    I was trying to perform step 2.1 "Create the BC4J Package for Client (UI) Objects".
    But I didn't find "Business Components Package" in the context menu.
    Could you give me advice how can I create package of this kind ?
    Thanks.

    I created "OA Workspace" and simultaneously with it created "Business Components Package" <yourname>.oracle.apps.ak.employee.
    After this it i necessary to creates one more "Business Components Package" <yourname>.oracle.apps.ak.schema.server
    I failed to create Package of this kind.
    In the "BC4J Tutorial" It seems to me I found similr actions.
    I suppose I may perform next step:
    Figure 6-3 http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A97671_01/wtgbc4j.htm#BABIAIEI
    Figure 6-4 http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A97671_01/wtgbc4j.htm#BABJIIII
    But I failed to pass these steps.
    Could you tell me, please, how to do this?
    Thanks.

  • Possible Bug: Business Components and packaging preferences

    I'm using JDev 11g TP2
    When I set up package preferences for business components, it is completely ignoring the package I setup for the Entity object.
    Example:
    From the menu Tools>Preferences
    Under the section Business Components>Packages.
    I set the following:
    Business Component: left blank - it uses the default [prefix].model
    Entity: entity
    Association: entity.association
    View Object: view
    View Link: view.links
    the rest have been left at default settings.
    Then I create a new diagram so I can add existing database tables to the application. I drag and drop the selected tables from the application resources to the diagram. It creates the entity objects in the [prefix].model package, not the [prefix].model.entity package like I was expecting. However the associations get created correctly in the [prefix].model.entity.association package.
    Is this possibly a bug, or just a training issue for me?
    Thanks

    No worries Ric. Unfortunately I don't have access to your latest builds but I'll still raise the issues in case they are relevant.

    CM.

  • Unable to import package. This file is not a Business Components XML file

    Hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 9.0.3(Build 1325) and trying to extend a VO. Project > Import Business Components and select the VO, AM or EO xml because Sourcing Negotiation creation does not have a server.xml and I am getting the following message "Unable to import package. This file is not a Business Components XML file.". Should I make something else to enable extension?? Does a patch required to make extensions. Any help would be appreciated.

    What I know is that server.xml is not a must. This is the easiest way to import appropriate xml files. My question is, when I am trying to Project>Import Business Components > xxxVO.xml I am getting the above error although the xxxVO.xml is a Business Component. I wanna know that should some patch be applied to Jdeveloper (Build 1325)?? (by the way at first I tried with Build 1312 and the same error raised)

  • [BUG] Business Components refactoring fails (TP4)

    Hi,
    I tried to do some refactoring of Business Components without much success. Here's what I noted:
    - After renaming entities/view objects, names in the Application Navigator are not updated;
    - Moving associations/links to another package fails (the moved xml files are empty);
    Is refactoring supposed to work in TP4?
    Olivier

    Hi Steve
    Are you saying that the wizard allowed you to create an entity with the same EO name in the same package as one that already existed with that same name?
    Yes but i'm not sure that i didn't do some mismatch with packages because i have one for entities, one for views and one for application module. I have to check this before I confirm.
    I stay however with the idea that it would be nice that the list of available tables show that an entity already exists for that table and selecting it again will be a volountary action to create an another entity based on same table.

  • Help required building ADF-Swing/ADF-Faces using ADF Business Components

    My question is in regards to how you can go about building a light swing application to an ADF model?
    In particular if I were to say that we were developing a 3-tier project whereby we had a database tier, a series of EJB-ADF façade session beans to the database (middle-tier), and a swing client communicating with the session beans (view-controller tier), how would you go about developing these screens?
    In particular can we develop these screens using ADF-Faces and also ADF-Swing?
    The EJB session façade beans of course are ADF app modules with customised methods. The methods would return back customised DTO objects. These DTO objects are wrappers to row objects ADF would create. This would be mainly due to making these facade beans web service enabled (Oracle state that these methods cannot return oracle.jbo objects if they are to be web service enabled).
    This would be typically deployed to an app server, like Oracle App Server 10G.
    Could you please have a look at this, as I am doing a lot of research into this.
    eg. Taking example from oracle magazine sept/oct 2006
    with slight enhancements
    package oramag.frameworks.example.common;
    import oracle.jbo.ApplicationModule;
    import oramag.frameworks.customdto.EmployeeDTO;
    public interface HRService extends ApplicationModule {
    void deleteCurrentEmpAndCommit();
    EmployeeDTO findEmployee(int employeeId); // new method
    import oramag.frameworks.customdto.EmployeeDTO;
    public class HRServiceImpl extends ApplicationModuleImpl {
    public void deleteCurrentEmpAndCommit() {
    Row empRow = getEmpView().getCurrentRow();
    if (empRow != null) {
    empRow.remove();
    getDBTransaction().commit();
    public EmployeeDTO findEmployee(int employeeId)() {
    EmployeeDTO employeeDTO = null;
    EmployeesImpl employees = getEmployees();
    employees.setNamedWhereClauseParam("EmployeeId", employeeId);
    employees.executeQuery();
    if(employees.hasNext()) {
    EmployeesRowImpl employee = (EmployeesRowImpl)employees.next();
    employeeDTO = new EmployeeDTO(employee);
    return employeeDTO;
    public EmployeesImpl getEmployees() {
    return (EmployeesImpl)findViewObject("Employees");
    Now given the above code snippet, how could you turn this into an ADF-Swing/ADF Faces application so that if a user using the swing application enters an employee id, then the application will execute the query on the app server, the app server in turn returns the results to the client, and the client finally display the results. Typical MVC example.
    Cheers
    Rodney

    The tutorial is for ADF BC used with JavaServer Faces.
    While the tutorial doesn't cover it, we also support drag and drop development for Swing and visual WYSIWYG layout for Swing panels and windows, too. For a very simple example, watch screencast #4 on my blog here:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2005/06/24/jdeveloperAdfScreencasts.html
    One thing I have noticed is that when using ADF business components, when the app module returns a custom DTO object like the above example, it returns the data in a element structure according to the data control palette.
    You don't generally ever need to create your own custom DTO's when working with ADF for use by client UI's. The only situation where can be necessary -- until we simplify this in the JDeveloper/ADF 11g release -- is when you desire to expose custom methods that can return sets/arrays of typed row structures through a web service. However, web services are not involved/required in building 3-tier Swing applications.
    When dropping onto a page it does so like a string and doesnt give option to display the data in a read only form etc. Is there anything we need to do, to get the functionality.
    It's more of what you don't need to do :-)
    Just leverage the active data model that the ADF application module provides. You can read more about it in section 4.5 "Understanding the Active Data Model" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers on the ADF Learning Center at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html). Your UI's bind to view object instances in the data model, and your UI's are automatically kept up to date without needing to write methods that return data. I short article I wrote that preceeded my writing the ADF Developer Guide content on this topis is here:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2006/01/26/theAdfBusinessComponentsActiveDataModel.html
    I know that when dropping a view object you get this functionality. Also was wondering if we were to pass an object of thios type back to the model it might not give us the rich functionality like input forms, like what Oracle provides if we were to drop a enitity view object.
    Just use the active data model and everything becomes totally easy, with no changes required to switch between local or three-tier deployment configurations.
    Trying to do everything with hand-coded DTO beans is really going the hard way.
    Could you help us regarding this?

    Hi to all,
    I am experiencing some VERY STRANGE behaviour in JDeveloper ADFBC.
    I am using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.0.3984 to build an application using ADF and Business Components.
    I have four tables, JAAS_USERS, JAAS_ROLES, JAAS_REALMS and JAAS_MAPPINGS. The only associations are that JAAS_MAPPINGS have JAAS_USERS_ID, JAAS_ROLES_ID and JAAS_REALMS_ID.
    I created my entities (package: datamodel.entities) and i have specified that JAAS_USERS entity use a DBSequence for USER_ID. Please note that i included control hints for every entity.
    Then i created my first view (package: datamodel.views), called JaasUsers
    that simply selects all attributes of the entity.
    I then created an application module (package: datamodel) and i included the view. When i test the application module everything is fine!
    I created a jsf and i dragged the view as a table -> read only table and everything was fine.
    I then run the page and again everything is fine.
    I then realized that i needed to change the control hint for some columns. Instead of changing the control hint of the entity (JAAS_USERS) i changed the object view (JAAS_USERS).
    From this point and on NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Here is the error message:
    (oracle.jbo.common.ampool.ApplicationPoolException) JBO-30003: The application pool (.110255D7D2E) failed to checkout an application module due to the following exception:

    Please help me becuase i don;t know hot to fix this BUG!

    Hey ppl , I got an exact similar error when trying to migrate from a 10g R2 to R3 version in Jdeveloper. Quite irritating this error,
    Well i guess most would have figured this out , but for benefit of all , theres a slightly easier way to tackle this ( JDEV Release 3)
    in the Application Navigator view Double click your Association , within association properties un-check your expose accessor checkboxes for both the source and destination .Apply changes and do a compile. If it is required , jdev will throw an error. Simply follow the process again and check the Expose accessor boxes again. This solves the problem most of the time.
    Main advantage being , you can avoid the tedious task of manually changing the xml information on Notepad or the kind.
    Hope this helps....

  • Editing business components

    Hello guys, how can edit my business components ??
    lets say i have added a new column to the table in database and i've made a new foreign key with another table, what is the best way to update these changes to my entities and view objects ?
    am using JDev 12.c , thanks in advance ^^

    right click on a business component package and select synchronize with db. This will add the missing column and new or changes rules to the EO. The updates to the VO you have to to by yourself (e.g. add column to VO).
    And the new FK doesn't automatically result in new association or viewlink. These you have to do yourself.
    If you have not written too much code you can delete the business components and create new ones from the tables again.

  • Database objects not displaying in Business components wizard

    I am trying to create new entity object based on a table using Entity Object Wizard. But I dont see that the tables,views,sysnonyms enabled and also do not get the list of tables in the dropdown
    Following are the steps that I am following :
    1] in the navigator, have right-clicked and selected the "New Entity Object " Wizard Option.
    2] Entered the name and the package and in the schema object lov, do not see the list of all the tables at all and also the Database Schema is disabled.
    I have connected to the database from JDeveloper using database connections, but do not while creating an Entity object. Can you pls help me resolve this.
    Version of Jdeveloper is 11.5.10(CU3)

    Select your project in Jdev, right click and select "Edit business components project". In the new window check the value used for connection.

  • Error loading business components

    Hi,
    When I start JDeveloper I get message "Error loading business components".
    Does it have any impact on further activities ?
    How to correct this ?
    Mark

    I have similar problems in latest JDev 10.1.3 update 3.
    In JDeveloper 10.1.2 this happened on VO based on entities from different packages.
    In this version it seems to happen after the garbage collection does its job (I'm supposing).
    What's more annoying is that in JDev 10.1.2 I had a workaround (open a simple VO when entering the IDE) and even when the error occured, you could stll enter all model component and their classes in edit mode.
    In JDev 10.1.3 it's a blocking error, ALL model components become read-only + their classes (EntityImpl) are NOT reachable and the Data component palette is unusable??
    The only workaround is to reopen the IDE??
    Thanks
    Fred
