Moving Configuration Manager Database to a Different Drive

Hello,
Is there a way to move the Configuration Manager database to a different drive in the same machine? We are using Configuration Manager SP1 and SQL Server 2008 R2. We are running out of disk space in drive C: Please advise what would be
the possible solution for this. Thanks so much.

Yes, follow the SQL Server documentation for moving database files.

In general, I have an easier time when I have stopped the ConfigMgr services and the IIS websites first.
Usually, then I will run the "Relocation for Scheduled Disk Maintenance" procedure.

What are the steps to move Webtools database to a different drive

The current drive is running out of space for our web tools live database so I am planning to transfer it to another drive which has sufficient space.
It would be helpful if any one can suggest the safer way and steps how to move the DB to another drive with out any problem since the site is live please?

To move the database to a different drive, Can I do the following?
1. Close the webshop at a appropriate time for a few minutes.
2. Stop IIS, Sync Manager etc etc that may access the web tools database.
3. Backup the WebShop database.
4. Drop the WebShop database.
5. Then Restore the WebShop database. When doing this configure the database and transaction logs (.mdf and .ldf) to be placed in the F: drive.
6. Now start the sync manager, IIS etc.
As my Colleague have moved SAP B1 databases using the above procedure. So can I assume Webtools database should be no different.
We have not tried the detach and attach procedure as of now

Hi,
what you have to do is to extend your tablespace with new containers on the new drive and AVOID REBALANCING !!!
Do do that, you can either use the "alter tablespace" command with the "begin new stripe set" clause, or use
the DBACOCKPIT to extend your tablespace and specify
a new stripe set there.

Moving Service Manager Database From SQL 2008 R2 SP2 to SQL 2012 SP1

Hi Guys,
Just looking for some clarification about moving our Service Manager 2012 R2 database to a new SQL Server.
Our Service Manager database is currently on a remote SQL server, shared with other databases, running SQL 2008 R2 SP2. It was originally setup this way as we only deployed Change Management but we are now wanting to deploy everything, fully
utilising SCSM/Orchestrator and Cireson's suite. Due to the limited resources available on that SQL server we are seeing performance issues before even getting it all up and running.
I want to move the Service Manager database to a new dedicated SQL server running SQL 2012 SP1. I am aware of the official DB move procedure but it does not specifically mention moving up SQL versions. I have seen some comments around here that
it is fine to do but some feedback would be good, it is not something I have done before.
All servers in this are fully patched Windows 2008 R2. Also, we do not currently have a Data Warehouse so do not need to worry about that. It was dropped and uninstalled before upgrading to Service Manager 2012 R2 and will be reinstalled after this DB move
using a separate dedicated SQL server.

As long as your collations and permissions are the same as before it
should not be a problem. That sad i could not find any other documentation saying it's not supported.
I have moved SCSM databases between different SQL-versions before and it has worked fine if the collations etc are correct.

Moving already backed-up data to different drive

Hi all -
I have about 700gb of videos that I want to move off my iMac's internal hard drive onto an external drive. The videos have already been backed up with Time Machine.
After I move the videos to the external drive, I want to continue backups on that data, but don't want to create a duplicate backup of the data that's already there. What's the best way to do this? I'd prefer not deleting the backups so I can keep the history, but not sure I can avoid that.
The only thing I can think of is to move the videos to the external drive, then create a link from the original location to the new location on the external drive so the original directory structure is intact. Will Time Machine see that as being in a new location and still do a full backup when it first sees it?

Thanks, klaus1! I looked briefly at the SyncTwoFolders link you posted, and it definitely sounds like something I could use.
A couple follow-ups just to make sure I'm following correctly:
- would SyncTwoFolders be needed only for the initial duplication, or would I need to keep using it? If the former, what's the difference between doing this and doing a straight copy?
- would I set my internal drive "videos" folder as the source, and the external drive "videos" folder as the target? And would that then trigger SyncTwoFolders to start copying the files to the external drive?
- after the above, I should now have two identical "videos" folders, right? I don't think I need to do the aliasing as these videos are my raw AVCHD videos that aren't referenced anywhere, and I can't play or do anything with them except to be imported into iMovie. So when I delete the originals, the target copy (on the external drive) becomes my only copy.
- when I then start Time Machine backups on the external drive, does it know not to back those videos up? And when I add new videos, those will backed up by Time Machine as usual?

Moving iTunes to new PC with different drive structure

Hi
I have just purchased a new laptop. My current Windows 7 laptop has iTunes in the default file locations c:\users\username\music\itunes etc.
My new laptop however has a partitioned disk with d: being the data drive. I have copied all the iTunes folders to the d:\ drive and set this as the media folder in iTunes.
I have tried copying the old library files across to the new PC but iTunes fails to find the files, and even after manually resetting a few files still doesn't recognise the new location.
For info, the new c: drive is not big enough to hold the entire iTunes media so I can't put it there and then move.
Any ideas how to get iTunes to recognise the media in the d: drive and keep my library intact. At nearly 350gb of video and audio I really don't want to lose it, and after 2 days of trying am tearing my hair out.

Copy your entire iTunes folder from C:\Users\<Username>\Music\iTunes on the old laptop to D:\iTunes on the new one. Hold down shift as you start iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose. Navigate to D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. That should be it.
Since you've already copied over the media you can probably save some time by copying over a fresh copy of the files in the iTunes folder (inc. the Album Artwork folder) and then move the iTunes Media folder into the correct place inside iTunes.

As far as I know, I recommend that you move databases by using the ALTER DATABASE planned relocation procedure .
In simple terms, the steps are following:
1. Backup the Database.
2. Stop the services on Lync Servers.
3. Move the database, and you could refer to this article:

[Forum FAQ] Configuration Manager Console shows nothing if you change SSRS to using SSL after Reporting Service Point is installed

If the SSRS is changed to SSL mode and http binding is removed after Reporting Service Point is installed. The Configuration Manager Console shows nothing in Reporting Pane. After digging into this problem, the cause is that the SSRS information has not
been updated in Configuration Manager Database. The following steps are taken for finding the root cause.
1. After changing to SSL, the Reporting Service Point log shows the error as shown in Figure 1.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.
(!) SRS not detected as running
Failures reported during periodic health check by the SRS Server DB2.SCJIZHO.COM.

From the error, seems the cause was the Reporting Service Point detected a wrong port. We digged around in Registry and found the information is a Registry key named ReportServerUri at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\SRSRP. After changing the Report
Server address to https. The error is gone as shown in Figure 2. But the issue remains, the Console still shows nothing. It is not a right direction.

It seems the Console wants to access the old http site and it fails to get into the site for sure. Actually, the Site Configuration information is come from Site Control File and as we all know that ConfigMgr 2012 doesn’t store the Site Control file in the
file system. However, it’s stored in the SQL database (as XML file). The XML file is stored in a view named vSMS_SC_SiteControlXML. This view is a read-only view. We cannot edit it directly. The related table stored the SSRS information for this view is SC_SysResUse_Property.
Running the following query will list the SSRS address. We can see the address is still the old one. This is why the Console shows nothing.

Remarks:
This article is just to let you know why the Console cannot show the Reports after changing to SSL mode. We do not intend to make you change the table in Database, if you want to change it, you will be at your own risk. The real solution to this situation
is to reinstall your Reporting Service Point.

Different Drive Structure Between Principal and Mirror

We havea 2-node (active/active) cluster with four failover instances installed. We use a dedicated drive for data files, one for log files and one for tempdb per instance .Predicting that we will be adding more instances in the future, we realized that we
would run out of drive letters to set up. We intend to switch over and use mounted volumes instead that way we only use 1 drive letter per instance and will be able to add many more failover instances in the future. However, seen as we have over 150 databases
across all current instances, reconfiguring the cluster drive setup will require a lot of time and work and is not in the immediate plans for our team (me :( ). I need to mirror as many databases as possible, based on priority, to a DR server on a geographically
remote location. Since this server isn't setup with SQLServer yet, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have the DR server set up with mount volumes now and establish mirroring between our production environment and the DR server that way so that
at least half the battle is won. I am aware that the best practice for mirroring is to have the same drive structure between the principal and mirror server, however it is not a requirement. The only example issue I have seen with this set up is when you add
a data file to a database and the DDL statements get sent over to the mirror and will fail since the drive setup will not be the same. This is something I am willing to deal with since adding data files to our databases is not something we do often, or at
all. As new databases are added and mirrored, the WITH MOVE clause of the RESTORE statement can be used to place the files in their correct location in the mirror server.
Other than this, are there any other things to consider for this kind of mirroring set up?

Hi Leroy G,
According to my knowledge, you can deploy database mirroring with different drive structure. And the known issue is that if you add a file to the Principal, the DDL commands get applied across the Mirror, then your database will go into a suspended
status until you duplicate the path on the mirror.
However, as your post, you can use WITH MOVE option to create database on Mirror server. For more details, please follow the steps in this
blog.

Adobe Configuration manager is not able to configure Oracle Database

Hi,
I am trying to configure and test data base connection using adobe livecycle configuration manager.
I am sure that my all oracle database credials (db type,db name, host name, port number , db userid and password) are correct.
but not sure about JDBC driver in application server lib and local JDBC driver path.
When i click on Test Database Connection it gives me error message "database setting failed validations".
Please help me knowing the issue. Why i am not able to connect to Oracle data base.
I have three servers
1. Adobe LC server ( First I installed Weblogic and then adobe lc)
2. weblogic server (only weblogic is installed, created database and gave privilages as per clustering_weblogic.pdf document)
3. Oracle Database (only oracle is installed, using Net manager , entering userid and password connection is successfull)
Please let me know issue.

I created on database using configuration assistant tool in oracle.
DataBase Name : adobe_lc
SID: adobelc
port :default is 1521
userid :system
password:xxxxx
hostname: ip address or maachine name with domain.
then i assigned following privilages to user account system

i assigned privilages by login into https://hostname.domain:5500/em.
Question:
Above url i got when i open database from start->oracle home->created db.
should this 5500 and port number same???
When i test it using "Net Manager" in oracle database, using userid and password it is tested successfully.
so i think there is no issue with the database. I mean to say, then there is no issue at oracle database side correct?
please let me know if anything else need to be tested on database. because before i proceed further i want to confirm that my database is correct in all aspect and ready to be configured with weblogic.

Needs Ability to Configure AutoSave To Different Drive than Scratch

If you edit a large document with limited memory, and are exercising the Photoshop scratch file, a coincidental auto-save can really slow things down because the drive then begins to thrash.
It would be great if the AutoSave could be configured to go to a separate drive than that selected for the Scratch file.
I mentioned this on a recent Connect session, and I'm putting it here as well. I believe it's something Adobe needs to consider by CS6 release time.
On a system with a sufficient number of separate drives at the point where scratch file activity picks up this could make a HUGE difference - between Photoshop usability and UNUSABILITY.
Possible workaround:
Because Adobe has had the good foresight to use a subfolder, it's possible that the auto-save folder could be redirected to another drive through a file system link. I'll be checking into whether this helps the throughput, as I'm not sure how much the link itself being on the same drive as the scratch files could be a bottleneck.

I have an SSD dedicated for use as a scratch drive. So far I haven't noticed a performance hit with background save active, but I've yet to get into really intensive processing with large images.
Since there are so many different drive and drive bus limitations, it's hard to say that Photoshop would be less bogged down using different drives for scratch and auto save. You may find a dedicated SSD is a real boon to performance as I have.

Moving My i Tunes Folder To A Different Drive

I'm runnung Win XP Pro. I have installed my iTunes to an external drive, as my free space on my C drive is getting a bit scarce. I see that all my music is stored in the iTunes/ My Music/My Documents Folder located on my C drive. Is there any way to store all mu music files on the external drive, as it has lots of room? Also, can I install my iPod software on the same external drive without any problems? Thanks.

You'll need to 'Consolidate' the music from the C: drive to the ExHD by using iTunes. This will keep all your music data intact.
I'm not sure I would have installed the iTunes program on the ExHD, but if that's what you did and it's working, then just leave it.
If you want to make another drive (direct or portable) on your PC the main music location for iTunes, move all song files there, as well as any future imported music from CDs, here is one method (see the links below):
You will maintain your playlists, ratings, comments, etc. This will only move your music folders location, NOT your iTunes program files. It is my opinion that programs (i.e. – iTunes) work better when installed on your main hard drive. At the very least, it makes it easier to manage all your programs if they are centrally located on one hard drive (the Windows default standard).

Message (on one account) when logging in: The user account running the Configuration Manager console has insufficient permissions to read information from the Configuration Manager site database.

After installing the reportservice/database i cannot use the Configuration Manager Console 2012 anymore with my own AD account. (The accounts of my colleagues are stil working)
When i login i get the following message:
The user account running the Configuration Manager console has insufficient permissions to read information from the Configuration Manager site database. The account must belong to a security role in Configuration Manager. The account must also have
the Windows Server Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) Remote Activation permission for the computer running the Configuration Manager site server and the SMS Provider.
I checked the following:
I am a administrative user in SCCM (Full Administrator)
I am a member of the administrator group on the server
Deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10
I tried to start it on multiple workstations and deleted my roaming profile
Any more suggestions?
