Move Lync 2010 database in different drive in same sql instance

Hi,
I am using Lync 2010 enterprise version and Lync database in SQL cluster.
I have to move lync 2010 database files in different drive due to some space issue in the drive.
Thanks

Hi Deepak Srivastava,
As far as I know, I recommend that you move databases by using the ALTER DATABASE planned relocation procedure .
In simple terms, the steps are following:
1. Backup the Database.
2. Stop the services on Lync Servers.
3. Move the database, and you could refer to this article:
Move System Databases
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345408.aspx
4. Start the services on Lync Servers.
5. Test the Lync feature.
Hope it can be helpful.
Best regards,
Eric

  • Move Public Folders Database to another Drive on same server - Exchange 2010

Hello all and thanks for your time and expertise.
We recently added a new drive to our Exchange 2010 server.  I've moved all mailboxes including arbitration mailboxes to this new drive (and new mailbox database).  I guess the last remaining step is to move the public folders databse to this new
drive.  I know in the console I can move the database path and the log files path for the public folders database.  Is this all I have to do to move my public folders successfully.
And then once everything is moved - can I safely remove the old mailbox database?
Your help and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Mike,
I moved the public folders database and received the following message:
    "Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:16
    Public Folders
    Completed
    Warning:
The task completed successfully, but the database "Public Folders" cannot be restored.
The exception message is "An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Unable to mount database 'Public Folders'.
The database appears to have been mounted at least once since its creation,
but there is no database file at 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb'. Either recover the database file from a backup,
or mount the database with a new, empty database by using the Mount-Database cmdlet with the -Force parameter.. [Database: Public Folders, Server: *******.***]".
    Exchange Management Shell command completed:
    move-DatabasePath -Identity 'Public Folders' -EdbFilePath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb' -LogFolderPath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders'
    Elapsed Time: 00:00:16"
I blanked out the server name.
After I clicked off this message I remounted the public folders database and everything relative to the public folders seems to be working fine.  Did this message occur because exchange was trying to mount the public folders database from its old location
and so I can safely move on with my life.  Just wanted to double check with you.
And once everything has been moved from the old mailbox database such as user mailboxes, arbitration mailboxes - can I safely remove the old mailbox database.  Thanks for your help.

  • Restore database to different drive

I need to move an XE database from one machine to another. The original installation is on drive D: the new machine only has a drive C:. Is there a way of restoring a backup to an XE installation on a different drive ?
I have tried copying the flash_recovery_area files across to the new machine. When I try to restore the backup, I get RMAN-04014: startup failed: ORA-02778: Name given for the log directory is invalid
I presume this is because the log directory in the backed up database is D:
    Other things I have tried:
    * Copy the .dbf files - but the data file names for the tablespaces are all wrong, so the database gives ORA-01157 "cannot identify or lock file" for each tablespace.
    * Use RMAN set NEWNAME for datafile in conjunction with a
    * Use expdp/impdp to move the database, but I have wrapped PL/SQL functions and packages and expdp/impdp corrupts them [at least it does with Oracle SE 10.2.0.3 - I haven't checked with XE yet]
I could perhaps use the orginal imp/exp, although I have had problems with my Oracle Advanced Queueing queues with it
So my question is, how do I restore a backup or set of files from a shut down database from a drive D: XE installation onto a drive C: XE installation?

    * Copy the .dbf files - but the data file names for
the tablespaces are all wrong, so the database gives
ORA-01157 "cannot identify or lock file" for each
tablespace. This can be the way, but you have to rename files. Once files have been copied to new destination, you can do as follows :
    1. Mount the DB
    SQL> startup mount
    2. Rename each datafile, tempfile and redo log :
    SQL> alter database rename file '<old path>' to '<new path>';
    3. Open the DB
    SQL> alter database open;

  • Move TM backups to a different drive

My Time Machine has been saving to an external 300GB hard Drive. I have purchased a 1 TB external HD. Is it worth the time to try to copy at least 3 or 4 weeks of TM backups to the new HD. I thought I would like to have at least 1 months backup available before I wipe the old 300 GB HD, to be used elsewhere.
Is there an efficient (quick?) way to move these massive files?

First, be sure you prep the new drive properly:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
You can clone your old TM backup to the new drive as follows:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the drive to which you backup.
Source means the drive you are backing up.
Do not use other cloning software as the Restore option of DU is the definitive tool for properly cloning a TM backup. SuperDuper! 2.5 is supposed to properly clone a TM backup drive, but I've not yet tested it. SD would be faster than Disk Utility.

  • How do you move imported iMovie events to different drive?

    Hi there,
I'd like to import my entire iMovie event library (200+ GB) into Final Cut Pro X, but I can't figure out how to get the imported events to live anywhere besides the startup disk.
    Here's my process so far:
Use FCPX's feature to import my entire iMovie event library. Make tea.
I don't seem to be able to choose which drive to import to, so they end up on the startup disk at ~/Movies/Final Cut Events
No worries! FCPX is a media management superhero. I just use the FCPX event browser to drag the events to my external drive.
Make more tea while all the events are moved to my external.
So far so good! My ~/Movies/Final Cut Events folder is clean, and my /Volumes/ExternalDrive/Final Cut Events folder is full.
Now let's test updating my imported library by clicking to import the library a second time. (Dialog confirms my impression that only new material will be copied.)
Result: Oh no! My entire iMovie event library is re-imported to the startup disk. Now I have two copies of each event in FCPX (not to mention the original copy in iMovie events -- oi my hard drives are filling up fast.)
    So:
How do I get FCPX to import my iMovie event library to a drive other than startup? I love the idea of being able to periodically sync my iMovie events to FCPX, but it's not going to be possible if those events are required to live on my startup disk.
    Thanks for any help,
    - canton

You really don't want to share the Events folder even if you could. If any other application changes (or sometimes even opens) a clip in a FCPX Event, FCPX will offline that clip with no easy way to relink it.
I'm surprised your Android phone footage isn't supported; what is the codec/format? Have you tried importing it after copying the files to the hard drive and using "Import Files" as opposed to importing from the "camera" directly?
My strong recommendation would be to keep the Events separate; use iMovie for android footage only, and FCPX for everything else. When FCPX supports the footage in the way you want, import them at that time and start using FCPX exclusively.

  • Can I move the fcpx libraries to different drive?

Hi, I notice in my FCPX Trial that the Libraries default to my Movies folder. I only have 2 small projects I'm working on and they're already about 6Gbs. I'd like all that to be on a separate drive to keep fre  space on the macbook pro. Just runs better if I do. Anyone know how to make the change? Thanks! Jon

In FCPX 10.1.1 Libraries are self contained. You can move them to another drive using finder. FCP will see them and under file>open library you can open them.

  • Migrate & coexist Exchange 2010 to 2010 in two different site under same domain

    Hi all,
The initial plan was planning to coexist Exchange 2010 (old data center) & 2013 (new data center) .
Unfortunately there was a problem of upgrading the existing exchange 2010 sp2 to 2010 sp3 and Microsoft said they don't support this anymore.
So the only plan I can think of is build another exchange 2010 with SP3 (new data center)  to coexist with existing exchange 2010 SP2 first then followed by exchange 2013.
I don't see any relevant info on the Internet for the coexistence of exchange 2010 SP2 and SP3. can you please share some detailed steps or info?
Thank you very much in advanced.

The last database upgrade exchange 2010 SP3 is unable to mount server with Exchange 2010 SP2 i.e., there is no database schema upgrade from SP1 or SP2 to SP3. Please check this link :

You may download exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 from here :http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36768
This Exchange Server 2010 SP3 software may be used to perform a new installation or to update an existing Exchange Server 2010 installation to Service Pack 2 (SP2) level.
Moreover, to migrate the mailbox database from exchange 2010 to 2013, you may consider on this exchange migration tool (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) that can be a good approach for you.

Are you absolutely, 100% sure that you are connecting to the
    same
database instance with both CF and Query Analyzer? That kind
    of symptom
is 9 out of 10 times because the user is looking at different

is looking at production and the other development or an
    backup or
    recent copy or something different.

  • Different plan for same SQL in different version of DB

    Hello,
At client side i have upgraded database from 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.2.0 . and after that i am facing performance related issue.
is this happen because of up-gradation ?
for testing i have created two different version db (i.e 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.2.0 ) with same volume and same parameter. now i am executing same query then i am getting different plan.
please help me to resolve this issue..

Which issue? CBO is upgraded with every new release! So, yes, execution plans may change because of that.
And sensible DBA's first upgrade a test database.
Also no statement is to be seen.
Secondly, you can always set optimizer_features_enable to the lower release.
Finally, please look up 'upgradation' in an English dictionary. You won't find it!!!

  • Move Application from PORTAL30 schema to another in same db instance

I created an application on the PORTAL30 schema early on, before I realized the export/import implications. How can I move the application to another schema? Will the appexp from PORTAL30 work to appimp to another schema in the same Portal?

If your other schema is XYZ (say), then first you need to use the Oracle Export/Import utilities to move all the relevant DB objects (related to the application you want to export) from Portal30 to XYZ.
For every Webview component, there will be a corresponding package created. Example : A Report/Chart/Calendar etc will have corresponding packages. Delete all those kinds of packages from the XYZ schema. If you have manually created any packages, then you may want to retain those only.
At this point, you have all the necessary database objects for the application under the XYZ schema. Now, export the application and import it by specifying the -t option which accepts the target schema as XYZ and your stuff will work.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to connect different clients of same SAP Instance

    Hi,
I have a question abour CPS 7, Basic- / Free of Charge  Version
I know that this version is restricted to have only  one SAP Instance per Isolation Goup, but how about different clients of the same Instance ?
Is it necessary to create an  Isolation Group for each client of the same instance ?
We actually have 1 isolation group with 1 Instance and 1client .
Trying to create a second XBP Connection to another client fails then saving the changes with error:
"JCS-102120: SAP System DI1.DI1_045 should be isolated but is not. Show error details"
I didnt find a concrete statement in the Installation - and in the Admin Guide.
    Regards
    Frank

    Hi Frank,
This is correct, there is one client per isolation group. The free version works similar in this respect to SM36/SM37: jobs are defined in each client individually and independently.

  • New PC and want to move library to a different drive location from original PC

I've just built my self a new PC and would like to move my iTunes music to my new PC.
I know this is a pretty straight forward thing to do as I have done it on more than one occassion before without any hassle.
It's a little different this time though, I need to move the libary to a different drive from the default location as my C: drive is an SSD and can't fit my entire libary on it.
I've got my iTunes music folder backed up on an external drive, I thought it would just be a case of installing iTunes on my new PC copying my music to the drive I want it on and telling iTunes that this will be my new storage location.
After a bit of playing around I managed to get iTunes to see all my music again.
I'm having trouble getting it to find my cover artwork though and my old ratings and playlist count.
Does anyone know how to restore these?
Also do I have to have 2 iTunes fodlers on the computer? 1 in the stanard C: drive loaction and 1 where I now have all my music. Can I not just have it all on the 2nd drive?
If I copy the 4 libary files from my backup into the new folder it gives me my old ratings and playlist count back but loses all the artwork and most of the files have broken links to them.
Sorry if I've not explained what I am trying to say very clearly, thanks for any help.

In iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn off Keep iTunes Media folder organized, then click OK.
Use Edit > Preferences > Advanced to change the media folder location to D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media, then click OK. If iTunes asks to consolidate or move any files at this point say no or cancel.
Open the menu File > Library > Organize Library... tick Rearrange files in the folder "iTunes Media", and click OK.
In iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn on Keep iTunes Media folder organized, then click OK.
Open the menu File > Library > Organize Library... tick Consolidate files, and click OK.
This should rearrange the media folder into the current structure with the minimum amount of physical file moves.
At this stage you should find that iTunes is now looking for your mobile apps at D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications. Check the properties of a single app just to make sure. If all is well you can reclaim the space on C:.
If it were me at this stage I would now close iTunes, then copy the library files and album artwork folder from wherever they are on C: into D:\Music\iTunes then shift-start-iTunes and choose the library at D:\Music\iTunes. It is at this point that the library is now truly portable.
Having made that work I would then close iTunes, move the iTunes folder up to D:\iTunes and shift-start-iTunes to open it, but that's my preference.

  • Problem in Loading Lync 2010 Control Panel

After installing Lync Group Chat Server on Lync 2010, The control Panel is not opening. As i have installed the Lync 2010 and Group Chat server on same server due to hardware limitations. In IIS Manager 7.0 i can only run one site at the moment . When in
using MGCWebservice i have stopped Lync internal and External Web Sites and started and MGCWebservice. Now tell the solution how i can run both at the same time coz both using https and Port : 443.
I need to run the control panel and MGCwebservice using IIS Manager 7.0 on same server machine.
Need a solution on urgent basis.

Collocating Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat with any server role is not supported.
You can change the default port for Lync Server internal and external web service.
You need to change it in Lync Topology Builder and run the step 2 with Lync Server Deployment Wizard, the port will changes automatically
in IIS. But each time you access Simple you need to specify the port you used for Lync web service. You may also have trouble by joining a Lync meeting with Lync client.
i recommend you deploy Lync Server Group Chat server on a seperate server. It is supported in a virtualized environment.

  • Lync 2013: SQL instance - Shared or Not Shared !?

I'll keep this straight to the point... I'm implementing Lync 2013 at my company and we stumbled on one SQL Cluster situation that's causing some questions on the DBA team.
    So the situation is....
    Background:
We currently have a two node SQL 2008 R2 (SP2) Cluster with two instances in it that are shared for other applications.
    Question:
Is it recommended by Microsoft (or any Lync Expert at all) to use one of these instances for Lync 2013 databases, or should it be a separated instance to host Lync 2013 Databases?
Note: If to be created the new instance, that instance will be living in the same cluster.
Thank you all in advance for comments on this.

Thanks to both for the replies. It does help me thinking about the subject.
I've meanwhile opened an advisory case with MS to check what they say about it. (I'm posting the results afterwards of course to share their advice)
I agree with both of you, and in fact I don't really like the idea of having a shared instance for Lync 2013 with other products (specially one of them that's in there that is Sharepoint 2013). I'm quite curious on knowing how will the instance behave once
Sharepoint 2013 decides to "eat up" all the resources...
I think that having the separated instance adds at least 2 very good (and important values) that is:
1 - Security (at the instance level.. no unwanted sysadmin's - we have persistent chat by some God forsaken reason... though I don't like the idea that a DBA with the right knowledge to read our C*O's chat's going around...)
2 - Resource assignment control (better memory control, possibility of "shifting" the instance to another place if necessary + if someone "brings down" the shared instance for any reason, lync can continue to function)
The IO concern regarding lots of SQLServer.exe running around, it's also a valid concern in my opinion, though at IO level is basically the same story because what matters is the DB file read-write operations that are ongoing and that will consume the same
resources either you're in a dedicated instance or separated one...
Still our DBA brings up the fact that we need to use a shared instance for everything and he wants me to put Lync all together with the other DB's (Sharepoint 2013 included...).
What are your thoughts about this?
Thanks once again for your time and comments.
