Moving iphoto's mobileme and facebook galley into Aperture 3

In iPhoto I have a lot of mobileme and facebook gallery that I update frequently.
I'd like to use Aperture3 also for this, but I'm unable to import these galleries.
I migrated all iphoto's library into Aperture, but on the left of Aperture mobileme and facebook galleries didn't appair...
can u help me please?

You are correct with your re-explanation
I typically have one album that I push all my family/snapshots too on Facebook, so in this case, I just deleted that album on Facebook, and restarted by creating in in Aperture, so now I am in sync. I have other albums already on Facebook that I will leave as is.
There was/is a Facebook plugin for Apeture I was using in Aperture 2:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/facebookexporterforaperture.html? cmp
I assume it will still work (32-bit only of course). It has not been updated in eons though, as you can see. This plugin simply pushed any selected photos up to Facebook, and allowed you to choose which album on Facebook. You then had the extra step of then going into your Photos section on your Facebook profile, selecting those photos, and "approving them to be published". Tedious. I actually like the Aperture 3 way better now (like in iPhoto before). The bummer of course is that you have to start from ground zero in terms of the synchronization

It helps if you provide details - not just a problem
What exactly dod you have and have you done?
What version of iPhoto did you have and what version do you now have? Of the OS? If you are upgrading from iphoto '08 or earlier did you download and RUN the iphoto library upgrader?

  • Any value in exporting iPhoto pictures and importing them into Aperture?

I am moving from iPhoto into Aperture (moving my library again actually) and I know that iPhoto and Aperture can share the iPhoto library once it has been updated but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?  The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.  A couple of weeks ago I moved my iPhoto library onto an external LaCie SSD disk to use with my MacBook Pro but unfortunately corrupted that library and have to make the move again.  If there is any value in changing how I'm managing my library I should do it now.
The library corruption was caused by me needing to leave for work and disconnecting the LaCie before Aperture was done sync'ing with my Flickr account.  When I tried to use Aperture the next day it was not able to repair/rebuild or use the iPhoto library at all.  I was unfortunately not backing up the external disk so I lost everything that I had done to clean up the library after the move.  One lesson that I learned was do not automatically sync with Flickr because doing this on an MBP via wireless with an external disk library can add a lot of delay to shutting down Aperture after an MBP wakeup.

Just in case you have not come across these:
Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?
You can - an it will depend on what you want to achieve, if that will usefull. The way to do this would be by imprting your iPhoto library into an Aperture library using Aperture. But Aperture libraries and iPhoto libraries are now interchangable - both are photo libraries, and you could simply use your iPhoto library in Aperture and be done now.
Some reasons why you would want to turn your iPhoto library into a library recognized as Aperture library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library:
As long as the photo library will have the "Kind: iPhoto library", you will have to upgrade both iPhoto and Aperture always to the newest versions, or you will not be able to upgrade to a new library format, when a new release of Aperture comes - say (iPhoto '12 and Aperture 4); you will probably have to buy both new releases to continue working with your iPhoto Library in Aperture.
If the kind of your library is "Kind: iPhoto library", it will appear in the Media Browser in the iPhoto section, not in the Aperture section, even if you are using it as your Aperture library. And before syncing with iTunes you will always have to open the Aperture library in iPhoto to point iTunes to it.
Also, in Aperture you have more control about what will be included in your library - In iPhoto there is no way to specify the size and quality of previews. If you do not want or need previews, or you want smaller previews, or no Faces, it would make sense to recreate your iPhoto library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library.
If you have more than one iPhoto Library, you can merge them into one big Aperture library to be able to browse all your images without having to switch between libraries. Aperture works very well with really big libraries. There is no need to split libraries.
The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.
That is what I meant by having more control on what will be stored. iPhoto will always store a very high quality preview of your edited version; in Aperture you can decide what the preview size and quality will be. But Previews and originals are not duplicates; they are not the same image.

  • Migrating iphoto 9 with duplicate misplace FACES into Aperture 3

After importing my iphoto library all the originals and modified photos are changed into stacks. The program creates faces for both the modified and the original image. The huge problem is that if my modified image was cropped all the face rectangles are shifted. Thus not only do i get duplicate faces and unneeded photos but the duplicate faces are not even correctly labeled.

    Allan,
When you import the default will probably be to store the photos in Aperture's library. This will make a copy of your photos and is called "Managed masters" in Aperture. As long as this what happens when you import, you will then definitely have 2 of each photo that you imported. It's not going to duplicate your iPhoto library per se (the library is a database that contains all the pictures and other goodies). Rather, it will copy each photo from your iPhoto library into a new library (the Aperture one).
You can also have Aperture use "Referenced" masters, by doing what gordonbmac indicated. In this case, Aperture does not manage the location of your masters. They will be wherever iPhoto has them. This may or may not be good depending on what you are going to do with your iPhoto library after. I.e., if you play with iPhoto and rearrange things, Aperture doesn't know that you moved the masters that it points to. It may mean that you will have to keep your iPhoto library around because Aperture is pointing to photos in it.
Your plan to move the iPhoto library to an external hard drive is exactly what I did when I imported my iPhoto library into Aperture. I kept it around for quite a while until I was satisfied that I didn't accidentally leave something in there that I didn't import into Aperture.

  • Importing iPhoto '09 library (8.1.2) into Aperture

I have two older macbooks (purchased in mid-2007 and mid-2009) running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, and I have recently purchased a new iMac. I was told at the Mac store that I would be able to import my old iPhoto libraries into my new iMac if I purchased Aperture, which I just did (I wanted to merge the libraries, and not manage them separately in iPhoto). However, when I go to import the library in aperture, it tells me I can't, and that I need to upgrade the old library to iPhoto version 9.4 before it will let me import. This would require me to upgrade these older macbooks to Lion or Mountain Lion, which I don't want to do becuase I wasn't planning on using them much anymore (and the 2007 one probably couldn't handle it). So my question is - how can I get my pictures from iPhoto 8.1.2/iPhoto '09 into the latest version of Aperture? I mainly want to make sure I can transfer over my events/organization and ratings/tags on the photos. Each of these older libraries has about 10k pictures in them, and I'm trying to preserve the organzing work I've done on them over the years. Any suggestions?

Here's the thing: With iPhoto 9.4 and Aperture 3 you can use the same Library for both apps - there's no importing, just opening.
On your new iMac you will also have iPhoto 9.4 (or later), if you don't, run softwatre update.
So: Copy the Libraries from the older machines to the new iMac. Open them with iPhoto on it - that will upgrade the Libraries, and then open them in Aperture. Then you can merge them.
To move the Libraries from an older machine:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
    1. Rename the Libraries on the old machines - iPhoto Library 1 and iPhoto Library 2. This will prevent them from overwriting each other when you move them to the new machine.
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Online printing services and that built into Aperture

    Hi,
I regularly have pictures printed by a well known high street photo store here in the UK but just recently I've been disappointed with some of the results.
They're coming back too dark and with a yellow cast even though the original files look fine when viewed on several different modern monitors, some calibrated, some not. I even run my monitor at minimum brightness when preparing them to try to simulate how dark they will look when printed using this service. I also add much more exposure to some pictures in Aperture to the point where they start to look washed out and even then they come back a bit dark.
I'm therefore looking to find an alternative service. Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable online printing service that produces results close to the electronic versions viewed on their monitor?
Has anyone tried the built in "Order Prints" option in Aperture? How did it go?
I briefly tried to use this option last night but for some reason it didn't recognise my Apple ID which I thought was the same as I use to log into these forums ie "d60Dave" in my case. Am I mistaken?
    Regards,
    Dave.

I second that about photobox. I've used them for 2 years or so - never had to send anything back. I've been pleased with the results for prints, posters and small booklets. online service only

  • Sort MobileMe Gallery and Facebook Albums

How can I sort MobileMe and Facebook albums by date (or manually)?

    Hi Mark.
I had the same issue and, through trial and error, think I may have found the solution - at least for MobileMe (I haven't used the Facebook publishing yet).
If you log in to your MobileMe photo gallery web app at http://www.me.com/ then you get a list of your albums down the left side. You can drag each album up and down the list to order them.
(not sure if the next step is actually required or if you just need to wait a bit...)
Next, open up your iPhoto app and let it sync the new MobileMe album order.
Finally, go to your gallery page on the web at http://gallery.me.com/your_username and hopefully you should see the albums appear in the order you set.
If they still appear in the wrong order, try refreshing the gallery page, clearing your browser cache etc...
    Hope this works for you.

  • Can you NOT copy an Amerture image and paste it into keynote?

I'm able to highlight an image in iPhoto, copy it, and paste it into another Mac app like keynote no problem. But my trial version of Aperture doesn't allow me to do that. How come?
Yes, I should be able to drag the image into a Mac app, but often they get out of sync and the recent image I've imported into iphoto is not available for dragging. So I just copy and paste it.
But what's up with Aperture in this area?

To use images from the media browser, you must generate previews of the images first. It sounds like the "automatically generate previews for every new project" is turned off under Aperture >Preferences>Previews. To generate a preview for a photo to use in the media browser, right click it and select "update preview". The quality of the preview photo is determined by the settings in the Previews tab found under the Aperture>Preferences menu.

  • Pdf into aperture

i am trying to solve an organizational problem where i have pdfs of published pages or work that are either one or two pages. this pdf format is very convenient for posting to the web in something like Scribd so that others can see it but it is very inconvenient to keep this imagery outside of Aperture. at the same time i do intend on keeping the pdf in a "published pdfs" folder.
however, i would /also/ like to include the actual pages from these pdf's in Aperture as they really belong with /other/ image file formats that also contain this kind of data.
is there a proper way to do this? for instance, should i break down all of the pdf's into individual pages that are image file formats (it would be great to know if i can do this in photoshop or acrobat and how to do it) and THEN import into Aperture? should i import all 1 page pdf's and somehow break down the 2 page pdf's into individual page pdfs (would be great to get a brief explanation of how to do this).
THANKS IN ADVANCE for any suggestions

Drag the pdf file onto the Aperture application icon (doesn;t matter if Aperture is running or not but you have to drag onto the application icon). This window will open:
Select Image Format as either JPG or TIFF, if you select PDF only the first page is imaged. So while this will import the PDF into Aperature remember it isn;t a PDF anymore but a collection of images.
    regards

  • Saving photos from PSE6 into Aperture

After editing a Photo in PSE 6 and saving it into Aperture, the photo is always saved as a TIFF image, regardless of whether I mark it to be saved as a TIFF, JPEG or PSD. Is this how PSE is supposed to work? Are there ways to save it from PSE6 in other formats into Aperture? If not, how can I then convert it into a JPEG image once it is in Aperture?

You may want to invest a tiny bit of time reading something like this before you put a whole bunch of time into organizing things in Aperture:

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

  • Can't select photo stream and Facebook in iphoto

I don't know why, on the side of iPhoto where we can select the library, we got a section call WEB, where we got our Photo Stream and Facebook account.
I don't know why but I can't select those two facebook account and Photo Stream to see and manage the photos that are in those section. I click on it and nothing happen.
But I can share with the share button at the bottom to those sections
Can someone can tell me why I can't select those sections?
I got iPhoto 9.4 and Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Importing Facebook albums into iphoto.

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to import my photo album names and details from Facebook into iphoto? I know I can go the other way and edit albums I have created in iphoto and then uploaded into Facebook. However, I cannot seem to add photos to albums that I created in Facebook via iphoto. For example, if I create an album in Facebook, I cannot seem to access this album in iphoto as I didn't create it within iphoto.

Please see my write-up and video tutorial on a solution to your question. I had the same need so I came up with this method.
