Moving my email history to new mac/leopard

New Mac coming today (Yea!!). I'm starting from scratch, just bringing docs over from my Tiger-running G5. How to bring all my email history over so my new Mail program has access, all the same mailboxes, etc.?
TIA!
dc

If you are using IMAP, you only need to provide Mail with your email address and password. If you are using POP, bring over the entire contents of the folder Library/Mail/ of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • Getting old email on my new mac

First, I apologize if this is covered elsewhere. I bought a macbook last night. I've moved over most of my stuff from my old imac (running 10.4) to the new mac boo (running 10.5). I've got the mail account set up, but how do I get the old emails over to the new machine.
    Thanks for any help.

quit mail on the new computer and move the folder homedirectory/library/mail AND the file homedirectory/library/com.apple.mail.plist to the corresponding locations on the new computer. delete the already existing folder and file on the new computer first. then when you start Mail it will look just like it did on the old computer including all accounts and messages.

  • Moving XP drive to a new Mac Pro

I have an install of XP via Boot Camp on an old Mac Pro. It exists on it's own hard drive installed in the machine.
I'd like to move it to a new Mac Pro.
Is it as simple as moving the drive to the new machine?
When I run boot camp on the new machine will it recognize the previous install? Or will I need to do a new install?
    Thanks
    Dj

It 'should' work, but XP will see it is on different hardware and require activation or something. And, you always need to boot from XP CD once when moving it to do some system repair from what I heard.
If you want to address 4-8GB RAM; use both cpus, have better multi-core support, I wouldn't even use XP.
So depends on if this is retail or system builder whether you can deactivate and move the license.

  • Forwarding old email to a new mac email

Is there a way to forward my comcast.net email address to my new .mac email
address, I recently switched to FIOS and comcast is cancelling my email address
FIOS will forward for 30 days only to a verizon.net account not a mac account

    Jason,
Forwarding should normally include attachments, images and links. However, forwarding of messages with RTF or HTML will often trigger a spam filter somewhere in the path which could then alter the message. You need to be sure that is not happening. To check this send, or have someone send, a simple Plain Text message with attached JPEG to your old account, and see if this forwards correctly.
What SMTP is being used by the old account, and who provides it?
Keep in mind that if you receive messages in your old account, then you can Move them to the .Mac account Inbox with a simple Move To command in the Rule rather than a Forward, and then they would be in the .Mac Inbox with the original headers instead of those headers that result from a Forward.
    More info, please.

  • I have moved my music to my new mac air but now it won't sync with my ipod or my iphone 4s

I have transferred mymusic to my new mac air from an acer laptop via an external hard drive and it's all there on the mac but now itunes won't sync with my ipod touch or my iphone 4s.
With the ipod it says 'iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. Could not connect to the device " It also doesn't show up at all in the devices section.
With the iphone it says there isn't enough space to sync even though I have experimented and unticked various things including photos which takes up a lot of space. It seems like it wants to sync with the empty space on the iphone (very small!) and not with the whole thing. I have tried various things suggested on this forum but have had no luck.

  • ITunes Account - Moving from old PC to new Mac

Bit of a technophobe here. Have an old Vista PC with iTunes and old iPod. I have a new MacBook, which is sitting in its box at the moment and hoping to get a 3G iPhone on Friday.
Is it possible to move my account from my PC to the Mac? I would also like to move the music library across to the new Mac. Is this possible? What about the songs I have purchased through the iTunes store?
    Thanks very much in advance.

Is it possible to move my account from my PC to the Mac?
You can have up to five computers authorized to one account. Just go to Store> Authorize Computer. If all you have is the one Vista machine and the new MacBook, you still have 3 left to authorize. However, if you're not going to be using the Vista machine, you cand de-authorize it by going to Store> Deauthorize Computer...
I would also like to move the music library across to the new Mac
If you like, you can use your older iPod to transfer your music to your new computer as outlined in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
    Good luck!

  • Moving iTunes Folder to a new Mac, Can't read iTunes library.itl

I'm replacing a Mac Pro (2,1) with OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.4 with a 2012 Mac Mini with OS 10.9.3, iTunes 11.1.5. When I move the iTunes folder containing the iTunes Library to the new Mac, I get the error message "the file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes", which is of course true. I really don't want iTunes 12. Is there a way to move iTunes 11.4 from the old Mac to the new Mac?

    Hi, gokart-mozart.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You will need to rebuild your iTunes library file in order to open an older version of iTunes.  Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process.  Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

  • Question for Kappy: Best guide for moving a user to a new Mac?

Really anyone could answer, but Kappy, you gave me such a great, detailed step-by-step guide on migrating to a new drive ( My 3rd Party SSD won't mount ) that I use it religiously. I wanted to ask you if you could point to the best process for moving a user from one Mac to another, the absolute best way. I typically use this website:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html
But I thought I'd ask for your sage wisdom first.
    Thanks for reading!

Thanks Baby Boomer. I will probably stick with the pondini site, then, being that a 3rd party is more likely to discuss the warts in the process.
Pondini (RIP) was a valuable contributor in the Community.  Thankfully, his websites live on!!!

  • Old imac (Tiger)not transfered internet settings to new mac (Leopard

    Hi,
I used firewire and the instructions, as prompted from my new Imac Intel Core 2 Duo to transfer my information from my old iMac power pc it tranferred iphoto and photos but not songs in itunes which I did from an external hard drive.
All my e-mails, e-mail addresses and address book contacts have not been transferred but more importantly my internet settings have not been transferred and I just cannot get in touch with the ISP.
I thought it was a simple case of my old mac sending info to the new one and away I go. I have to use the old one to post this!
Help please. Basic instructions appreciated. Many thanks.
    George UK

    Hi Roger,
My faith in macs has been restored! I did as you suggested re network, that didnt do the trick. So I spoke to ISP and a very simple instructions were given I unplugged the cable modem, switched off and unplugged my mac, inserted the ethernet plug, replugged the modem replugged the mac and switched the mac on. Bingo!! On line with e-mails and address book details. it has to be in that order they said.
many thanks for your help. I will post this one in case it helps others.

  • Moving PC address book to new Mac

I just bought a new Macbook. I have been running everything on a Dell Windows machine up to now. I have a very large personal address book in Microsfot Outlook on the Dell. Is there a simple way of transferring the address book from the PC to the Mac without having to retype everything. I had considered using my Palm to sync the addresses to the Mac, but I have been able to get the Palm syncing to work properly. Is there a way to export my outlook addresses and import them on the Mac using a thumb drive?
    Thanks

I haven't used Outlook for a few months. You should be able to highlight all addresses and then use the Export command (under the File menu?) to create a file of all the addresses in Outlook, then go to Mail and File->Import the file you created. Depending on how much information you have saved for each address, you may not capture everything.

  • Moving Lightroom 5 to a new Mac.

I've just upgraded my Mac & want to move LIghtroom from the old to the new computer. I've already got it installed on the laptop, so can't just use the second licence.
I can't seem to find the deactivate option in the menu; or isn't it in Lightroom on Mac in the same way it's in Photoshop on a PC?
    Thanks for your help

There is no Activate/deactivate with Lightroom. As long as it's only installed on two machines, you are complying with the licence.

  • Does the facetime app expire- got new mac leopard 18months ago?

Didn't know I had to buy new apps to allow me to contiue using facetime.  A screen came up asking for 69p.  Not a lot but wonder if this is going to be an ongoing thing with other major apps I use regularly when skype is free!!!!

Not sure, but it could be Spam. You don't have to pay again.

  • I am moving my ipod classic from a pc to my new mac

I am moving my ipod to my new Mac and no longer have physical access to the pc.
So I think I need to move my library and reformat.
I am confused about the resetting or reformatting part.
I think I understand that I have to download a manager program to get my whole library into the new itunes.
And I think that I understand that I have to reformat my ipod to mac, but that can erase your ipod so what order do I do what?

    Try Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.
There's also a similar program called Yamipod which has a Mac version.
I've used all of these on a Mac with great success.
Now, when you've successfully transferred your music from the iPod to your new Mac, you can if you so wish reformat the iPod to a Mac version by simply restoring it (on your Mac of course).
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.
*This will erase the iPod's contents so don't do this until you've got all your music off it.*
However, you don't necessarily have to reformat the iPod because a Windows iPod will work just fine on a Mac running OS X. Many folks leave it like that for the convenience of being able to use the iPod on both a Mac and a Windows machine, and I left my new Classic Windows formatted for months before I eventually reformatted.
The one downside is that you won't be able to update the iPod software if you leave it Windows formatted unless you do it on a Windows PC. So, if you want to update and you only have access to a Mac, you'll need to reformat it.

  • Moving existing iTunes library onto new imac

I have just bought a new iMac. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive. What's the best way of moving this library onto my new mac so that iTunes recognises it?
    Thanks for any advice
    Rob

    Rob,
Put/copy (drag and drop) the files into the Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder on your iMac. Be sure to copy the iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml files as well.
Then, select "preferences" under the iTunes menu and select "advanced." Then make sure the location of your music library is the music folder on your mac (this will be the default).
