Moving Oracle Discoverer to another site

I am asking advice as a complete layman and a non-technical person who has been handed a task!
We have a set up where we use/share Discoverer along with a separate site down south where the Discoverer is actually situated.
Our databases are outhosted in Maidenhead.
Our base office is up north where we have a secure dedicated line to our database. I have been told we presently have to ping all over the place to use Discoverer.
What would I need to do to get our own independant version of Discoverer set up in our northern office using our dedicated direct line to access our data?
Is it as simple as setting up a new server for discoverer up north and recreating all of our links to the data again or is it much more complicated than that?
Also does anyone have a rough idea of how much this would be likely to cost? (Then I can prepare my bosses for a shock before getting an exact quote!)

Are you using the web based tools Discoverer Plus/viewer or are you using Discoverer Desktop?
If you are using Discoverer Plus/Viewer then this uses a 3 tier architecture. So tier 1 is your database containing the data, tier2 is the application server containing the Discoverer software and tier3 is the browser/applet on your PC. If you want to move Discoverer then you could install a new Application server (tier2) while still using the same tier1 database. You could also install a new database server (tier1), but then you would need to replicate the database and that is more complicated.
If you are using Discoverer desktop then this connects directly to the database so any routing would be at the network level.

  • Moving wireless controllers to another site

    I am planning to move our WLC's (5508) from a branch site to HQ so that all branch site APs will just report centrally in the HQ.
    There are two WLCs working as Active/Standby. Plan is to move one then the other. Any plans, tips or advise on how I could accomplish this?
    I am not really inclined with wireless.

    Its pretty simple... You move one and make changes to that WLC (IP address, etc) and then configure the mobility group to reflect the new ip address of the WLC.  Then you would change the ap's primary wlc to be that of the one that will stay (just in case) and set the secondary to the one that will move.  Verify that the mobility is up between the two WLC's after you move the on to HQ.  When you have connectivity between the two WLC's and the mobility is up, go ahead an set the primary to one of the AP's to the WLC at HQ's and the secondary to the WLC that didn't move.  If the AP's joins the WLC at the HQ, you are good to go to make the changes to all the other AP's (of course if you have enough license).  Then do the same procedure with the other WLC.

  • Migrating Oracle 10.2.0.4 to another site

    Hi Gurus,
    I´ll need to migrate an ORACLE Database to Another site (1000 miles away) and i need to know, what's the best practice to do that.
    I need to copy the entire database to a new server whith the minimum downtime and risk while the source database is open (if possible).
    Source server and target are the same:
    AIX 6.1 on Power 780.
    Between the servers we have a 100mb network link
    Database 10.2.0.4 - Single Instance
    I have two options in my mind:
    1) MIGRATE only the disks and mount them in the target server.
    For me it's the easiest way, but i am afraid of the downtime, because the database have 1Tb and it's going to take some time to transfer it.
    2) Use DUPLICATE DATABASE whith compressed backup. (Doubt)
    My database is archivelog and i want to backup the database and it's archivelogs and execute the duplicate command.
    My question is: After RMAN restore the backup and apply the archived log files who were backed up, does it apply the recent changes on database who weren't backed up?

    If you are like many sites, the compressed backup will be about a tenth the size of the db. So how long to transport 100G over 100mb link? About 12M/second is the best you could hope (depending on what else is between), so consider a minimum of 3 hours, and it could be ten times that. You'll need to test to find out. Another possibility is to cold copy onto a $500 2T usb drive and ship it over. You could also use rman that way, but you have to be careful to have the identical directory structure to put the backup sets into (if I'm not forgetting about some new feature, it's been a while since I've lacked network speed while doing this).
    There's also a "dribble it over" way if you have time, take whatever time it takes to network the files over and setup a standby, then however much time it takes to catch the logs up, then a brief outage to switch. Depends on your uptime requirements.

    Hi there, looking for some insight into a task that has been assigned to me. We have two Exchange 2013 servers setup in a DAG environment. I've been asked to move the secondary to another site. If anyone has gone through this process, do you have any suggestions
    or tips
    Off the top of my head 
    Maintenance mode enabled on secondary exchange server
    Shutdown VM
    Copy to External drive
    Ship external drive to secondary site
    Create VM and assign new IP
    Ensure DNS name for secondary is pointing to the new IP
    Boot and turn off Maintenance mode on secondary server
    Ensure DAG is replicating over
    Questions
    Do I have do change anything to ensure exchange realizes it's now off site? The new IP that will be assigned is bound to our secondary site in AD. Example 10.333.333.*  = DR-SITE.
    Anything I've missed in the steps brainstormed above?

    I would probably take a different approach if possible:
    Build new Exchange Server in New Site (making sure storage passes).
    Configure Vdirs and add to dag
    Add Database Copies
    Once database copies are seeded remove old server from the dag and retire it.
    I like this method better, b\c you still keep some high availability while you are getting the second site together.  PLuS you don't end up not being able to prune you log files since replication would be so far behind once you stand up the server in
    the new site.
    If you can't do that your steps look like they cover everything.  

  • How to install oracle discoverer 4.1.37 when multiple oracle homes exist

    Dear gurus,
    Can anybody put some light on this issue. I have 2 oracle homes in my machine. When i select any one of them to install oracle discoverer, it says oracle 6i for nt, oraHome92 is already used for ora 82 Beta. I tried to create a Newfolder for Discoverer installation, it also does not work. Please anybody can solve this.
    Plus i need to have know the steps involved in installing Oracle Discoverer 4.1.68.06?

    This is a known 'challenge' on the ol' 4.x and before version of Disco where Disco needs the default Oracle home and doesn't expect anybody else to be camping on it.
    Since Michael's already got the instructions on his site, I won't go over them again - and I'm sure he's given good instructions.
    As for the steps involved in installing Disco 4.1.68.06:
    1. find the software (metalink, otn, etc).
    2. realize it doesn't exist
    3. get mad as you'll think Oracle screwed up
    4. realize that there is NO version 4.1.68.06
    5. be embarrassed!
    OK, kidding, but the version you most likely are talking about is: 4.1.48.06. Also, there is one final, final, no more, we ain't coming out with another version, version. That's 4.1.48.08.
    Assuming you already have a version such as: 4.1.36 or 4.1.47, etc. you can get old patches, upgrades, etc. by checking metalink. Note that in some cases (ie: maybe 4.1.48.08) you have to put in a TAR with Oracle (and go through the usual "we don't support that version anymore" discussion with them).

  • Is there a way for a site owner to copy a custom calendar that resides on a site on one site collection to a site on another site collection?

    A user contacted me about copying and moving information from an old site that is being retired to a new site.
    The most important info is the department calendar.
    I don't see a way to use the "Manage content and structure" functionality to copy or move a calendar from one site collection to another.
    And site owners do not generally have enough permissions to create templates into the gallery.
    Is this just not possible for him to do on his own?

    I gave up and created templates for the site owner and created the corresponding list for them on the new site.
    I was startled to discover that even though I said I wanted to include all content, the 4 columns that were of type "people picker" did not, for the most part, transfer.
    So the columns will have to be manually entered. But at least the rest of the effort is done.

  • Differences between  Oracle Discoverer 10g and 11g (EBS & Desktop)

    We are in the process of upgrading from Oracle Discoverer 10g testing to Oracle Discoverer 11g.
    We have had several requests (from functional users) for documentation that might reflect the changes in this release level. Does anyone have relevant documentation that might help explain what has changed so that they can be better prepared.

    We are in the process of going from 10 desktop to 11 plus. I do not like it as other end-users I have talked to don't either. In desktop, I could have multiple reports open at one time, move tabs from one report to another so I wouldn't have to rebuild the report again. Also, there are times I have 3 or more sessions of desktop running with multiple reports running in them. In plus, I am limited to one session and one report. That slows down productivity big time. In desktop, exporting crosstabs to excel is more user friendly than plus. For desktop, it will fill in the cells below with the data above it if it changes. In plus, it looks like a pivot table. I have read other posts on how to work around that, but not always functional. Using Dense_Rank() works sometimes depending on how the report is written. IT is researching another way but haven't heard back from the consultants. Or, I will have to modify all my excel files with formulas to do that for me. Also in desktop, I can select all and copy paste the results into excel and all data comes in. The row and column headers, page items and even the title section will paste into excel. Plus only gives you the data, no row or column headers. So I have to export it every time I need the data. I have formatted excel files that all I need to do is copy paste and data flows beautifully. As for organizing and saving reports, desktop is much better. I can save reports out on our network under different folders so I can find them faster by topic. Granted, if that directory is an open one, anyone can change/delete it. In plus, the only advantage of saving it on the database is I can sort and search for reports or users. If you make any changes in plus and then walk away from your desk, plus will shut down after a certain time period. If you didn't save it, you have to start over. Don't know if this is something IT can fix???
    As we see it, plus is a step back in technology. I hope someone can change that opinion. Don't know if we are not getting the best support from whoever is working with us (Oracle or 3rd party) or we are missing something???? If so, please share.

  • Connect to Oracle Discoverer window does not appear

    Hi,
    The Web based Oracle Discoverer 4i does not work properly on my system. I first connect my Microsoft IE to the URL. One the URL there is magnifier icon. Under this icon there is a lable of "Click the image above to start".
    I click this icon and another window pup up. The top left corner of this window shows "Oracle Discoverer" title. Under this title bar are the menu items. The menu items are File,Edit,Sheet,tools, Graph & Help from left to right. The bottom left corner shows "Loading...". But the "Connect to Oracle Discoverer" window never pups up.
    If I connect my browser to another URL I can get "Connect to Oracle Discoverer " window displayed and log into database.
    What is wrong with my first server?

    I'm only guessing, but I've had similar problems in a few cases with the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. Try getting Discoverer to run with a different JVM, like Oracle Jinitiator.

    I know how to calculate correlation in Oracle discoverer plus using calculations but is there a way for us to give the users the ability to drag drop the variable they want to see the correlation between in viewer. So for example if the user wanted to see the correlation between SAT scores and age they could just select the variables somehow and see the correlation between them.

    There is no straight forward way but one possible solution:
    1.
    Create a folder in the eul that contains two columns
    1) a dummy column
    2) a LOV column
    I usually do this with a query SELECT 'dummy' as joiner, 'LOV ITEM' as lov_item from dual union....;
    2.
    create a LOV on the LOV Item column
    3.
    create a join between the new table and another table in the workbook
    4.
    create 2 parameters based on the lov item column (do not create a condition with the parameter)
    5. create a calculation that calculation that well correlate two items based on the values of the parameters
    6. remove the new table from the workbook. The new table will not affect how many rows are returned but the parameters still look at the LOV table.

  • Why did moving pages to a different site cause scary glitches?

    I'm an advanced iWeb (3.0.4) user with two iWeb sites: the OLD one, and the NEW one. I built all-new pages for the new site, but I dragged in two MOVED pages from the old site. Once I did this, the site will not publish. "Publish Error: an unknown error occured."
    There's a few other symptoms:
    -I cannot move the moved pages back to the old site. When I try, the blue "drag/drop" selection box freezes, and the pages do not drop where I drag them.
    -I cannot delete the moved pages. When I click delete, nothing happens.
    -When I click on the moved pages to view or edit them, they do not load. The iWeb window stays blank.
    -The site will not publish to MobileMe or a local folder.
    -The old site still publishes.
    These solutions have not worked:
    -Deleting the .plist and rebooting / clearing the cache.
    -Moving the Domain file, creating a new blank site, deleting the new blank site, replacing the Domain file.
    -Transferring the Domain file to another Mac and publishing from the new Mac.
    I wish I could sit down with an iWeb expert and sort this out. Any tips from you guys?

    Do you have a  backup copy of the Domain.sites2 file you can revert to?
    Can you delete items from the two moved pages (make a backup copy of the domain file first)?  If you can try deleting an item and try publishing to a folder.  Keep that up till you can publish. Then open the backup copy and delete that last item and see if you can publish. If it's just one item that's causing the problem this might be one way to isolate it.

    I hope I am in the right forum. I have been assigned to install Oracle Discoverer for Oracle ERP (11.5.10). We currently have a Oracle Discoverer environment for Peoplesoft. My questions are follows.
    1. Can I use the existing Oracle Discoverer which is used to get PeopleSoft data for Oracle Applications (11.5.10) ?? This way I avoid installing another copy of Discoverer. In Future, if we could use the existing technology for other Databases.
    2. If I go in for a new install of Oracle Discoverer, what is that I need to install ? I am guessing, there should be
    1. Desktop application on the client
    2. Do I need to install anything on the server ?
    3. I will have a Oracle Discoverer database
    I guess 1. (Desktop application) would be installed on all desktops ? Is there a web based thingy ?? For 2 and 3 I would require the DBA's to help me out.
    Would anyone have a high level diagram of the things that go in for installation ? I would really appreciate if you could send it to kiranramachandra at yahoo dot com.

    Hi,
    1. No, you don't need to reinstall Discoverer, you can just connect to the new database provided you have updated the TNSNames.ora file. However, before you can connect with Discoverer Desktop you will need to use Discoverer Admin to create a new Apps mode EUL in the Applications Database.
    2. You will need a client installation of Discoverer (Admin and Desktop). If you want to use the web based Discoverer Plus and Viewer tools you will need to a Oracle Application Server installation. If you are installing Discoverer 10g then you should install the Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition. But depending on your version and configuration you may need to install other tools.

  • Problem moving Oracle 9i forms to production.

    Hello,
    We are having problems while moving oracle 9i forms to production on our 9ias server if anybody is using the same form. Is this because 9ias might be caching it.
    How is the normal application deployment done in oracle 9ias ?
    Our exact problem is, if the form is already in production and if a user has opened it and another programmer wants to transfer the same form into production after some changes, we cannot do it. We need to wait till all the users are out of the form to view the new version. Are we doing something wrong ?

    This is normal behaviour on Windows. When a user opens a file, the file is locked for rename, delete etc. Try deleting a Word document when somebody is using it. It is just not possible.
    Usual solution: patches are put in production in the middle of the night.
    If really urgent, the Windows administrator can check who is locking the file and unlock it.

    discoverer is an end-user based tool for querying data. basically
    an administrator prepares an environment that the end-user can
    easily select his query without knowing anything about the technologies.
    discoverer is available on the web (iAS) as well as on client/server (iDS).
    reports is a powerful enterprise reporting tool which provides the
    end-user a ready to use reports. basically a reports developer can
    base a report on any datasource and you can get the output in any format
    you like. report has open api's and powerfurl frameworks to extend the
    out of the box functionality. you can design reports for paper based
    reporting to produce output or you can design reports for the web.
    reports is capable of dealing with mass data and for that fully scalable.
    this was just a high level introduction.
