MS Office 2008/2011

I have MS Office 2008 for Mac and it works just fine. Is there an update for the 2008 to the 2011, or do you have to purchase 2011 outright for another $139.00? If this is the case, is there any real purpose in spending this amount of money to upgrade?

Hello
This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office or your question in any way. If you have issues or questions about Office, it's probably best you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

Just installed Lion and my 2004 MS Office will not work.  Wish I had known that before upgrading...  2008 is less restrictive and costly than 2011. Is there that much difference between the 2?

Thank you for your response.  I am in an industry that is still very PC driven and use Word, Excel etc. it seems for everything and quite frankly that is what I am used to as well.  Just downloaded Lion without doing any research on it.  Dumb... I liked the new Mail features( wish Snow Leopard had them) I saw on a friends computer and ran home to get it. Woah!  Right now I am sorry I did.  I ran to the Genius Bar yesterday to switch back but found out I have to erase my hard drive, hours of work to make sure everything is backed up, etc. etc.  The tech suggested that I work with it a few days and then decide which is what I am going to do. He said all of their product comes loaded with Lion now.  I don't like some of the new features at all - Address Book is awkward and not so sure on calendar - this one is just picky.  I don't care for the graphic at the top and don't like that you can't change it to something else.  We have 3 Mac laptops at home and I would like to be able to load the upgraded version on all three and not have to pay so much more for it.  Snow Leopard family pak was only $20. more than single.  I saw 2008 works as well and found it for $45.00 -3 user as opposed to $149. from MS for 2011 -3 user as well.  So, what to do?
If you have moved your Mobile Me account you can not go back, regardess of what the Genius said.
Office 2008 for $45 is a good price and there are cheaper aternatives (Open Office etc are fully compatible with MS Office)
    Don't go back, go forward.

  • Office 2008/2011 deinstalled with Mavericks

    Hey,
I upgraded from ML to Mavericks when it came out. I already installed Office 2008 on my mid '10 MBP when I bought it 3 years ago.
And not long after that I upgraded to Office 2011.
    Everything went well until now.
Today, when I wanted to load Word for the first time since the Mavericks update, I came across this dialog box.
It's in Dutch but as a translation: I need to enter my serial key. Or I can sigh up for Office 365, which I don't want, because I still have this version. At least I think.
I tried the 3 serial keys on the backside of my dvd box, but none of them works.
Any thoughts how to make it work again?

    That's the problem
You can't drag it there you have to install it
Remove all elements you dragged and installed, and restart from scratch with a genuine install.
Yes office 2011 works on Mavericks

  • Office 2008 and 2011 do not open on Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion

Can someone please tell me how to get Microsoft office to open in Mountain Lion.  I had Office 2008 when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I could not open it after that so I bought MS Office 2011 and it does not open either.  I need to use these applications.  What is the fix for this.  I unloaded and reloaded 2008 and loaded, unloaded and reloaded 2011 - that does not seem to be the solution. Is there a setting I need to change, or a complete unload I need to do, or what. Can someone give me some answers that work?
    Thank you if you can.

  • Problems with Microsoft Office 2008 and 2011

    Hiya,
I am running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro and I'm having ongoing problems with the Office system. I'm doing a PhD so I use footnotes all the time and in Word 2011, the autosave function makes the footnotes disappear from the bottom of the page, but I'm not comfortbale working wihtout autosave running. I deleted Office 2011 and put Office 2008 back on my machine. However, since I re-installed Office 2008, the whole OSX seems to have slowed down.
Could Office 2008 cause my whole system to get sluggish? Is there anything that I can do about it?
I am also wondering if there is there another solution to my original Office 2011 problem with footnotes that doesn;t involve disabling autosave? Has anyone else has similar problems with footnotes? I just wiped my whole system and re-installed all the programmes, so I am surprised to still be having these same problems with Office!
Thank you for any help and advice!

  • Office for Mac 2008 & 2011

I bought my Macbook pro August 2010 along with Office for Mac 2008.
I received Office for Mac 2011 disc last Nov and have installed it.
I now have both Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 on the Mac. How do I uninstall the 2008 version????

In addition, try looking in the Microsoft Office folder in your Applications folder. Some Office 2008 uninstallers are located there.
Office for Mac has said that there is nothing wrong with having both versions on your system. While this would allow you to have both Entourage and Outlook email support, I do not really trust what they have said, as I think it could cause issues down the road.

  • Office 2008 or Office 2011 on iMac 2007 running Snow Leopard

    Hi iMac Folks
My iMac Mid 2007 has 4GB RAM and is running Snow Leopard on a 250 GB partition, the another 250 GB partition is purely for Time Machine backup. I also got both Office 2008 and Office 2011.
From the perspectives of performance, stability and compatibility, which version of Office is the best choice for this old iMac?
I currely have a Mac Pro running Office 2011, can Office 2008 open 2011's files without any difficulty or problem?
Cost is not an issue here, as I have already owned both copies, each has three licenses. However, in terms of cost, if possible, I prefer using Office 2008 as this way I can keep more Office 2011 licenses for new Macs, if any.
    Any comments are welcome.
    Kind regards
    B

    2008.

Yes. Both use the standard .docx and are backwards compatible with older (pre 2007) .doc files.

  • Office 2008 update to 2011

I bought the Office 2008 student version (3 liscences) and then updated it to 2011 by web. I installed it on my new iMac. Now I am going to buy and Air and want to install the 2008 version and update to 2011 again. I thought I read somewhere that this had to be done by the end of this year. If that is the case then will I need to buy Office again?

Depends on how many copies you upgraded. From what I'm reading, the upgrade is for a single license only. You can't assume that if you bought a 3-license 2008, that the upgrade is 3-license also.
I'd talk to Microsoft on how they are going to handle this. But, either way, any of these upgrades MUST be registered to them by the 31st.

  • MS Office 2011 prevents my Mac to stop... can I remove it but maintain my Office 2008? (I have both versions installed)

    Hi all,
MAC OS X Leopard... I installed Office 2011 with a University license. Now after some months it is no more working and it prevents my Mac to stop...
I want to uninstall Office 2011 but maintain my Office 2008 installation that is still properly working.
I found a terrible Support Note from Microsoft, and I do not know what it will happen to Office 2008. Any suggestions that make it easy and safe?
Thank you very much in advance
    Kind regards

Hello, I have no experience with MS products sine the '90s, but open Activity Monitor, choose show all Processes, does MS or Office show anything using CPU% when 2008 isn't open?
Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

  • It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008.  The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster.  I read that Yosemite won't support Word 2008. What Microsoft Update should I buy, and will that fix my problems?  I am desperate. Thank you in advance for your help.  Here is the result I got from EtreCheck. I hope this helps you help me.  BTW, your drop-down menu under Operating System doesn't work

Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

  • I installed Office:mac 2011 on my new iMac running 10.8.3 and discovoed my file transfer from my old macbook installed Office:mac 2088. Now I have both installed and none of the office apps work - I keep getting the same error message

I recently purchased an iMac to replace my 2008 macbook.
I used migration assitant to transfer all of my macbook files to the iMac. I noticed that I had the old 2008 version of Office:mac 2008 on the iMac and decided to install Office:mac 2011 which installed successfully.
However, now I can't open excel or word or powwerpoint now using either 2008 or 2011.... I just get an error message saying there was an error and the app had to close. It offers to send a report to Microsoft.
I tried moving Office:mac 2008 to trash but this didn't resolve the issue.
Can anyone help (I am not a really sohpisticated user so be gentle)

  • MS Office 2008 Update: fixes some print issues?

I noticed the first update for Office 2008 is out, and one "fix" they list for Word is:
Blank pages are no longer printed when you print to a high resolution printer. This update fixes an issue in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard that causes blank pages to print when you print to a high resolution printer.
I know people have struggled with Samsung and other printers and Word since Leopard released. I do not have one of the affected printers so cannot test it.

  • MS office 2008 now crashing when we try to print. No changes to computer; same old software. New printer 9 months ago, no trouble printing until last month. Other programs (adobe, mac) print fine. What can I try?

I have an iMac from 2009. It's running OSX 10.6.8 and we've used MS Office 2008 for Mac all along without any trouble.  We replaced our printer 8 or 9 months ago, and we've had no trouble printing from any program until the last several weeks. Now, when we try to print ONLY from word or excel, the print window appears, but then the spinning rainbow comes up, followed by a Microsoft crash message: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I tried to trick it into making a PDF, but the crash comes too fast. The only change to our entire Mac ecosystem is the following: We also have a Macbook Pro that has the 2nd allowed installation of the same MS Office 2008 for Mac. Due to liquid damage 6 weeks ago, that computer was replaced and all of the data and applications were moved from the dead one to the new one. Could this possibly be because microsoft detects a "third" computer "using" its software? I'm guessing no because I've seen several threads about problems similar to mine, and none mention licensing issues. In terms of troubleshooting, I've shut down, unplugged, restarted and tried newly created docs as well as old ones. Same results, no matter what.

  • How can I install Office 2008 on my new MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a license key and a cd to install from, but no slot in my MacBook to insert the CD into. I heard I can download Office 2008 from the Microsoft website, can anyone supply me with a link to the download? Not the30-day trial, the full version. Can anyone tell me if Office 2008 will work on the Retina display because I've read reviews about how it didn't in the past and should now (thanks to updates).

Office 2008 will work with Mountain Lion, but it isn't retina compatible and would probably be too much strain on the eyes to work with. Purchase Office 2011 or Pages. LibreOffice is free and may be retina compatible, but I personally have never used it.
If you are willing to install 2008 and give it a try then just download the trial and then you can upgrade the trial to the full version using the license key you have.
